John Wang

FERTILE, Minn. -- John Wang, 61, Liberal, Kan., formerly of Fertile, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.

John David Wang was born Aug. 13, 1937, the son of John and Lillian (Johnson) Wang, in Norman County, Minn. He graduated from high school in Fertile in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Eileen Heisler on June 19, 1962, in Esmond, N.D. He was a sales representative for a liquid feed company in Crookston for several years before moving to Liberal in July 1969. He represented Gro-Mor Liquid Feeds for several years. He began working for Stu Emmert Automotive Center in 1980, where he worked as a salesman and later a finance manager. He began working for the Clark Auto Ranch, Guymon, Okla., as a salesman and finance manager.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, of Fertile; sons, Maj. Todd, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Jason, Hood River, Ore., and Dr. Preston, Vienna, W. Va.; a daughter, Jacquie Wang, Amarillo, Tex.; three grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy, St. Cloud, Minn., Danny, Scobey, Mont.; and sisters, Dorothy Mercer, Bellingham, Wash., Gloria Monson, Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn Kittelson and Esther Olson, both of Babbit, Minn.; and Marlys Halmrast, Eagan, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, in Miller Chapel, Liberal.

Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. today, and 8 a.m. until the service Monday, in the chapel.

Burial: Liberal Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Southwest Medical Center Skilled Care Unit. (Miller, Liberal)

Robert 'Bob' McCannell

WARREN, Minn. -- Robert "Bob" McCannell, 74, Warren, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Robert J. McCannell was born on June 3, 1924, the son of John and Rosetta (Geddes) McCannell, in Minto, N.D., where he grew up. He married Marie Georgeson on Dec. 26, 1969, in Fargo. He lived in many different areas, moving to Warren in 1971, where he owned and operated Bob's Lumber.

He is survived by his wife; stepsons, Richard Georgeson, Hillsboro, N.D., and George Georgeson, Bismarck; stepdaughters, Jean Phillips, Minneapolis, Mary Parmelee, Niwot, Colo., and Carol Burtness and Sylvia Kensinger, both of Fargo; and 21 stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Ann Romberg and Marion Gornowich.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday in Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Minto City Cemetery, Minto, N.D.

LeRoy Simon

WAUBUN, Minn. -- LeRoy Simon, 74, Waubun, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes, Minn.

LeRoy Simon was born Jan. 11, 1924, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Winter) Simon, in Waubun, where he attended Kersting School, near Waubun. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1944 to 1946. He married Susan Reller on July 16, 1958, in Waubun. He lived and worked on the family farm in Waubun.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Timothy (Mary Beth), Daniel, and Vincent (Theresa), all of Waubun, Bradley (Caroline) Ogema, Minn., and Mark, Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren; brothers, Ralph, Wadena, Minn., and Art, Mahnomen, Minn.; and a sister, Sally (Clarence), Staska, Waubun.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Leander "Gandy," Elmer "Curly" and Clarence; and sisters, Adeline Baker and Loretta Simon.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.

Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Waubun.

Military Rites: Ogema VFW Post #9880.

Jared Boe

NEWFOLDEN, Minn. -- Jared Boe, 25, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in Foldahl Township, Marshall County, Minn., as a result of a car accident.

Jared Scott Boe was born Oct. 19, 1973, the son of Gene and Beverly (Skadsem) Boe, in Karlstad, Minn. He attended school in Viking and Newfolden, Minn. After working in Northwestern Minnesota, he moved to Fargo in 1996, where he worked as a salesman for the Corwin Buick-Toyota Dealership.

He is survived by his mother, Thief River Falls; brothers, Steven, Holt, Minn., and Jeffrey, Viking, Minn.; grandmothers, Pearl Boe, Thief River Falls, and Lucile Skadsem, Newfolden, Minn.; and his fianc, Jennifer Hapka, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandfathers, Arthur Skadsem and Nels Boe.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday in Evangelical Free Church, Newfolden.

Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden.

James 'Jim' Otto

MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- James "Jim" Otto, 30, Mahnomen, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at home.

James Kenneth Otto was born Oct. 19, 1968, the son of Kenneth and Joyce (Zurn) Otto, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Mahnomen, graduating from high school in 1987. He attended Northland Community College, Thief River Falls. He moved to Moorhead, where he worked as a concrete finisher. He returned in 1992 to Mahnomen, where he began working at the casino, now known as the Shooting Star Casino. He worked as a blackjack dealer, later becoming a blackjack pit boss. He also raised cattle and worked at the Allan and Steve Krebsbach farms east of Mahnomen.

He is survived by his parents, Mahnomen; a sister, Paula (John) Zeck, Warroad, Minn.; and brothers, Mike (Jen), Brian and Chris, all of Mahnomen.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Burnside Funeral Home, Mahnomen, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen.

Kevin Reitmeier

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Kevin Reitmeier, 23, Fosston, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Rochester, Minn., of cancer.

Kevin John Reitmeier was born May 18, 1975, the son of Keith and Arlys (Nelson) Reitmeier, in Crookston. He grew up and attended school in Fosston, Minn., graduating from high school in 1993. He attended North Dakota State University from 1993 to 1997, pursuing a degree in fisheries and wildlife management. He worked at Fargo Hose Company, Fargo, as a shop supervisor.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Erin Reitmeier; grandparents, Selmer and Frances Nelson, and Deloris Reitmeier, all of Fosston, and Judy Reitmeier, McIntosh, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charlie Reitmeier.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hope Lutheran Church, Fosston.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Carlin-Hoalmen Funeral Home, Fosston.

Burial: Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Memorials are suggested to: Gift of Life Transplant House.

Anna Ware

BAUDETTE, Minn.--Anna Ware, 95, Baudette, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in the Lakewood Care Center, Baudette.

Anna Georgina McClernan was born July 20, 1903, the daughter of David and Oletta (Stein) McClernan, in Bemidji. She grew up in Graceton, Minn. She graduated from Williams High School. She attended Bemidji Teachers College. She taught school near of Graceton, and also at Canfield School. She married Percy Dalbert Ware in Bemidji. They moved to California in 1941. Percy Ware died in 1957. She returned to Graceton in 1987. She entered the Lakewood Care Center, Baudette, in 1990.

She is survived by a son, Darrel (Jeanie), Baudette; and a sister, Ruth Phillips, Ramsey, Minn.

She was preceded in death by sons, Donald and Ted; a brother, John; and sisters Verna "Bee" and Margaret.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baudette.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Albin Anderson

BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Albin Anderson, 86, Baudette, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Lakewood Care Center, Baudette.

Albin Edwin Anderson was born Aug. 15, 1912, the son of Ragnar and Caroline Anderson, in Zippel Township, Lake of the Woods County, Minn. He worked various jobs, including cutting timber and plowing. He married Mathilda Lolli. They moved to Minneapolis. He worked as a parts manager in Fairmont, Minn., and later at Suburban Chevrolet, Edina, Minn. Mathilda Anderson preceded him in death. He moved to Baudette. He married Sylvia Murry on March 26, 1984. He was at the Warroad (Minn.) Care Center before entering the Lakewood Health Care Center.

He is survived by his wife.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred; and brothers, Laurence and Luverne.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Lutheran Church, Baudette.

Burial: Pine Hill Cemetery, Williams, Minn. (Helgeson, Roseau, Minn.)

Vernon Thompson

WARROAD, Minn. -- Vernon Thompson, 80, Warroad, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at home.

Vernon Lincoln Thompson was born Feb. 12, 1918, the son of John and Minnie (Fuller) Thompson, in Wadena, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1938. He married Violet Battles on July 12, 1944, in Warroad. He continued his education from 1956 to 1983 in the electrical field at the Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis. He worked as an area representative for the Minnesota State Board of Electricity, retiring in 1983. They spent summers in Warroad and traveled south for the winters.

He is survived by his wife; children, Kenneth (melody), Proctor, Minn., Randy (LeeAnn), Minneapolis; Linn Thompson, Bloomington, Minn., Wesley (Debra), Alexandria, Minn., Kelly (Mark) Bailey, Marshall, Minn., Sheri (Richard) Cabrera, Cottage Grove, Minn., Scott (Jennifer), Cumming, Ga., and Lisa (Erik) Campbell, Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Goligowski, Browerville, Minn. Edna Fox, Mound, Minn., Janice Thompson, Chaska, Minn.; and brothers, Dale, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and David, Woodbury, Minn.

He was preceded in death by sons, Mark and Gary; and a brother.

Services: 10 a.m. today in Warroad Baptist Church.

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Warroad (Helgeson, Warroad).

Alpha Johnson

GRYGLA, Minn. -- Alpha Johnson, 86, Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Grygla, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in her daughters home, Bloomington.

Alpha Margaret Morken was born July 12, 1912, the daughter of Andrew Olaus and Bergine (Bergseng) Morken, in Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn., where she attended school. She worked on the family farm. She married Erwin Johnson on Feb. 28, 1947, in Grygla. They lived and farmed in the Grygla area until 1982 when they moved into Grygla. She worked for Arctic Enterprises, Thief River Falls. In 1994 they moved to Bloomington to spend time with their daughter at her home. Erwin Johnson died Sept. 20, 1996.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Carol Johnson, Bloomington; and a brother, Allard (Margaret), Grygla.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Stanley and Milton; and sisters, Thelma and Edna.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Petri Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Roger L. Brown

WHITE EARTH, Minn. -- Roger L. Brown, 51, White Earth, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, of a brain aneurysm, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo .

Roger L. Brown was born March 27, 1947, the son of Augustua and Mabel (Leaf) Brown, in White Earth. He attended school in White Earth and Waubun, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he earned his GED and he received his electrical training at the Ojibwa Center in Waubun. He worked as a welder in Waubun. From 1970 to 1985 he lived between White Earth and Minneapolis. He returned to White Earth in 1985, where he did independent electrical work. He married Shelly Wilson on Dec. 20, 1985, in Mahnomen, Minn.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Randy, White Earth; daughters, Michelle (Randy) Wilson-Bellanger, Mahnomen, Tina Wilson, Virginia, Minn., and Jamie Brown, White Earth; five grandchildren; brothers, August Jr. and Ralph, both of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Tom, Mahnomen, and Ronald, Ken (Aurelia), Tim (Tammy), and Franklin, all of White Earth; and sisters, Maeford (Charles) Foster, and Beverly (Jim) Libby, both of Ogema, Minn., and Nancy (Lawrence) Larson, White Earth.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday in White Earth Assembly of God Church.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.

Burial: St. Columbia Episcopal Cemetery, White Earth.
