Beatrice Winter

BEAULIEU, Minn. -- Beatrice Winter, 90, Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Beaulieu, died Nov. 28, 1998, in Glendale.

Beatrice Halvorson was born July 29, 1908, the daughter of Helmer and Karoline "Josie" (Rolstad) Halvorson, in Beaulieu. She attended school in Beaulieu and Mahnomen, Minn. She married Clarence Betcher on Jan. 29, 1929. He died Dec. 7, 1931. She married Art Winter in Graceville, Minn. They moved to Bejou, Minn., where they operated several businesses, including Anchor Cafe. In 1968, they moved to Hillsboro, N.D., and she operated the Coffee Cup Cafe until 1975. In 1978, she moved to Seattle. She lived in several communities in Washington before moving to the Phoenix area in 1990. Art Winter preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughters, Carol (Robert) Lutes, Fargo, Mary Murray, Kensington, Minn., Betty Bennke, Minot, Babe (Karsten) Berge, Whitefish, Mont., Connie (Leland) Ohren, Moorhead, and Patricia (Jack) Morefield, Glendale; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Irene Roberts, Sabetha, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; and a brother, Neil.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou (Mattson, Mahnomen).

John J. Cwikla

MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- John C. Cwikla, 79, Middle River, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in the Convalescent Nursing Care Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, where he had lived since May 1998.

John Joseph Cwikla was born July 31, 1919, the son of Peter and Caroline (Lis) Cwikla, in Beltendorf, Iowa. He moved with his family to the Thief Lake community of Marshall County, Minn., near Middle River, where he attended school. He married Ann Burian on Oct. 4, 1939, in Greenbush, Minn. They lived in St. Paul until moving to Thief Lake Township, Marshall County, where they farmed until 1977. They moved into Middle River. Ann Cwikla died Jan. 8, 1991. He moved to Thief River Falls in the fall of 1996.

He is survived by sons, James (Arnette) and Allen (Pam), both of Thief River Falls; daughters, Carol, Minneapolis, and Eileen (Al) Walseth, Thief River Falls; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Frances) and Alex (Mimi), both of Middle River, and Frank, Wannaska, Minn.; and sisters, Mary Taus, Middle River, and Ann (Albert) Zeidlik, Roseau, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Nick Zelik; a grandson; brothers, Stanley and an infant; and sisters, Rose Burian and Pauline Berg.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Middle River.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Church (Collins, Middle River).

Laurie 'Larry' Raad

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Laurie "Larry" Raad, 54, Bagley, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Meritcare Hospital, Bagley.

Laurie Raad was born March 5, 1944, the son of Orville and Doris (Hill) Raad, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He moved with his family to Shevlin, Minn., in 1958. He attended school in Waubun, Minn., and graduated from high school in Bagley in 1962. He lived in Kansas from April 1962 to 1969, where he returned to Shevlin. He worked for Arctic Cat in Clearbrook, Minn., from 1969 to 1972. In 1973, he moved to Colorado and in 1975 back to Bagley. He married Barbara Pederson in November 1977. He lived in Bagley and worked for a trucking/logging operation and owned and operated the Bagley Cleaners from 1989 to 1996. He retired in 1996.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Bryan (Gail), Bagley, Russell (Shari), Joliet, Ill., Stacy (Carrie), Richfield, Wis., and Kevin (Erica), Japlin, Mo.; two grandchildren; sisters, Sheila Raad, Boise, Idaho, Shirley Peterson, of Georgia, and Carla Blegen, Champlin, Minn.; and a brother, Brian, Conyers, Ga.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Caroline.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel, Bagley.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services in the chapel.

Burial: Bagley City Cemetery.

Helen Weiland

EUCLID, Minn. -- Helen Weiland, 76, Euclid, Minn., died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Helen Lucille Kuhn was born Aug. 12, 1922, the daughter of Michael and Emma (Musselman) Kuhn, in Crookston, where she graduated from high school in 1942. She married Ralph Jack Weiland on Oct. 11, 1942, in Crookston. They lived on the Weiland homestead, Euclid.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Diane (Bruce) Berscheit, Waite Park, Minn., and Debbie (Russell) Jobe, Wendell, Minn.; sons, Ralph Jr., Maplewood, Minn., Philip (Linda), Watertown, S.D., Ronald (Vicky), Stephen, Minn., and Michael, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 20 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Edna Baatz and Mary Hanson, both of Crookston, and Barbara Culbert and Jean Kuhn, both of Minneapolis; and a brother, Lyle, Rush City, Minn.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger; a granddaughter; an infant sister; and an infant brother.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Chapel, Crookston.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the funeral home.

Burial: PrairieView Cemetery, Euclid.

Adelia H. 'Dee' Larson

ADA, Minn. -- Adelia H. "Dee" Larson, 76, Ada, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Fargo.

Adelia H. Hoversten was born April 3, 1922, the daughter of Christian and Julia (Ogard) Hoversten, in Riley, Alta. She moved with her family to Ada, where she graduated from high school. She married Bob Larson on May 17, 1941, in Ada. She worked at DDRC in Fergus Falls, Minn., and as a county counselor for Norman County.

She is survived by her husband; sons, R. David (Barbara) and Dean (Sande), both of Elizabeth, Minn., and Erik (Lynette), Moorhead; daughters, Julie Larson (Mary Dwyer), Stillwater, Minn., and Elizabeth (Bill) Schmidt, Mahtomedi, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Irma), in Florida; and sisters, Gladys Adams, Davis, Calif., and Mildred Gubbrud, Alcestor, S.D.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Jones.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Grace Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church (Fredrickson, Ada).

Dorothy J. Johnson

WARROAD, Minn. -- Dorothy J. Johnson, 70, Warroad, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Roseau (Minn.) Area Hospital.

Dorothy Jean Guibault was born Feb. 3, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Matelski) Guibault, in Warroad, where she graduated from high school. She married Clayton Johnson on July 17, 1948, in Warroad. She worked at Warroad Fishing Camp, the family resort. She worked as a clerk for Wings Clothing Store. She sold Avon and later worked for Marvin Windows until her retirement in 1991.

She is survived by her husband; children, Barbara Ann Johnson, Robert (Beverly), Richard (Barbara) and Ronald (Denise), all of Warroad; six grandchildren; and brothers, George (Margie Ann), Warroad, and Dale, St. Paul.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris; and a brother, Emil.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Union Congregational Church, Warroad.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Warroad, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Warroad.

Steve J. Tulibaski

ARGYLE, Minn. -- Steve J. Tulibaski, 82, Argyle, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at home in Wanger Township, Marshall County, Minn.

Steve John Tulibaski was born July 16, 1916, the son of Stephen and Mary Ann (Hulesz) Tulibaski, in Argyle. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He married Barbara Price on Oct. 21, 1953, in Florian, Minn. They lived and farmed in Wanger Township. Barbara died Dec. 7, 1989.

He is survived by sons, Thomas (Carol), Warren, and Raymond and Paul, both of Argyle; three grandchildren; and a brother, Dennis (Frances), Argyle.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Stanley, Bruno and Walter; and sisters, Cecelia, Helen, Staffie and Gertrude.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Argyle.

Visitation: After 5: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: Church Cemetery.

Military rites: Argyle American Legion (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren).

Paul P. Kaml

EUCLID, Minn. -- Paul P. Kaml, 83, Euclid, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at home.

Paul Pius Kaml was born May 6, 1915, the son of Ludvig and Agnes (Hluncy) Kaml, in Roseau, Minn. He attended school in Greenbush, Minn. In 1938, he moved to Angus, Minn., where he worked on the John Taus farm. He married Rose Kluzak on Jan. 24, 1944, in East Grand Forks. He worked on the Jack Garry farm near Euclid. In 1949, they began farming near Euclid. In the early 1960s, he worked for East Grand Forks American Crystal Sugar Co. during harvesting campaigns. Rose Kaml died Sept. 25, 1977. He retired from farming in 1981 and continued to farm in semi-retirement until 1988.

He is survived by daughters, Elaine Kaml, Euclid, Carolyn Kaml, Watkins, Minn., and Marion (Danny) Green, Bynum, Ala.; sons, Myron (Sharlene), Green River, Wyo., and Harlan (Lorna), Euclid; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Steven (Helen) and Victor (Miranda), both of Greenbush, and Andrew (Doris), Phoenix; and a sister-in-law, Dolly Kaml, Angus.

He was preceded in death by a son, Duane; sisters, Julia Shimpa, Annie Penas and Katie Shimpa; and brothers, Ludvig, Anton, Otto, Joe and George.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Tabor, Minn.

Carl Pippin

ADA, Minn. -- Carl Pippin, 94, Ada, Minn., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in a Fargo hospital.

Carl Alvin Pippin was born Oct. 6, 1904, the son of William and Sarah (Chitwood) Pippen, in Nielsville, Minn. He moved with his parents to the Hillsboro, N.D. area, where they farmed until 1944. He attended school in Ada. He worked for farmers in the Ada area until 1945, when he began working for Burlington Northern Railroad. He also worked as a foreman machine operator and laborer until retiring in 1972. He married Agnes Aanenson Flyberg on April 18, 1948, in Mahnomen, Minn. They lived in Ada.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Carl, Erskine and Allen, Shelly, Minn.; a daughter, Carol (Ronald) Kuehn, Twin Valley, Minn.; stepsons, Leland (Linda) Aanenson, Wallace (Janice) Flyberg and Larry (Margaret) Flyberg, all of Twin Valley; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by stepson, Donald Flyberg

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Grace Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: One our before services in the church.

Burial: Ada City Cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).

Elizabeth 'Libby' Jacobson

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Elizabeth "Libby" Jacobson, 64, Roseau and Grafton, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in Malung Township, Roseau County, Minn.

Elizabeth Tobin was born May 20, 1934, the daughter of James Sr. and Lucy (Rybakowski) Tobin, in Beaver Township, Roseau County. She attended school in the Skime, Minn., area. She worked for Nelson's Cafe in Roseau. She married Raymond Dybedahl in 1953 in Roseau. They farmed in Malung Township. In 1978, she moved to Kennedy, Minn., where she worked as a caregiver at the Grafton Development Center. She married Dennis Jacobson in 1979, in Kennedy. He died in 1981. She continued to work in Grafton and in 1991, she moved into Grafton. She retired in 1997. She lived with her daughter in Roseau for the past two months.

She is survived by daughters, Sonja (Mark) Olson, Mesa, Ariz., and Jeannie Larsen, Roseau; a son, Danny Dybedahl, Roseau; four grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Lillie Ann), Roseau; and sisters, Doris Nash, Minden, Nev., Helen (Lloyd) Holcomb, Warroad, Minn. and Joyce Aasen, Roseau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Louis and Donald; and sisters, Alice and Janie.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Johns The Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, and 10 a.m. Tuesday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.

Visitation: One hour before services Monday in the church, Grafton. 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, in Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau and one hour before services Tuesday in the funeral chapel, Roseau.

Burial: Malung Cemetery, Roseau.

Mayme Anfinson

ERSKINE, Minn. -- Mayme Anfinson, 78, Erskine, formerly of Warren, Minn., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in the Riverview Hospital, Crookston.

Mayme Larsen was born Oct. 27, 1919, the daughter of H.F. and Sylvia Larsen, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She married Raymond Anfinson on Nov. 4, 1939, in Detroit Lakes. They lived in Hawley, Minn., Lakota, N.D., and Oslo, Minn., before moving to Warren in 1949. Raymond Anfinson died Feb. 26, 1991. In 1996, she moved to Erskine.

She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Paul) Stennes, Erskine, Catherine Dahlman, Mesa, Ariz., Laura (Al) Jevning, Devils Lake, and Elaine Austine, Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, David (Andy), Green Cove Springs, Fla., John, Moad, Utah, and Christopher (Lori) Dahlman, Lincoln, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Raymond, Burton and Michael; and sisters, Eva Sanford and Evelyn Olstad.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Warren.

Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Erskine, after 6 p.m. Monday in the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before service in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.

Eddie Fridberg

DRAYTON, N.D. -- Eddie Fridberg, 86, St. Paul, formerly of Drayton, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in United Hospital, St. Paul.

Eddie Fridberg was born Dec. 22, 1911, the son of Bertil and Ida (Jacobson) Fridberg, in Teien Township, Kittson County, Minn., where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944. He moved in 1953 to St. Paul, where he worked as a machinist for the American Hoist Co. He married Beverly Peterson on May 30, 1958, in Hibbing, Minn. They lived in St. Paul. He retired in 1981.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Jeff (Roxanne), Anoka, Minn., and David (Deb), Prior Lake, Minn.; three grandchildren; a brother, Conrad, Manistique, Mich.; and sisters, Edith Johnson, Warren, Minn., Alma Torell, Robbinsdale, Minn., Helen Tungseth, Plymouth, Minn., and Ida Saari, Hibbing.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer; and sisters, Elna and Helga.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Teien Covenant Church, Drayton.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Teien Church Cemetery (Hughes, Hallock, Minn.).
