Nellie Clementson

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Nellie Clementson, 102, Fosston, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston.

Nellie Gandrud was born Oct. 15, 1896, the daughter of Peter and Anna Gandrud, in Kerkhoven, Minn. She moved with her family to Hope, N.D., where she attended school. She attended Concordia College, Moorhead. She married Joe Clementson on May 18, 1918, in Crookston. They lived and farmed near Fosston, until 1924, when they moved to Erskine. In 1934, they moved back to the farm until moving to Fosston in 1941. Joe Clementson died May 9, 1981.

She is survived by sons, Willard (Edna Mae), Clarkston, Wash., and Arvid (Alene), Fosston; a daughter, Norma Dillenburg, Grand Forks; son-in-law, Hayden Thompson, Denver; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by a son, John; daughters, Marion Clementson and Joanne Thompson; two grandsons; a son-in-law, Cy Dillenburg; sisters, Caroline Lovly and Mary Rucker; and a brother, Albert.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Hope Lutheran Church, Fosston.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Erskine.

Mary A. Dostal

BADGER, Minn. -- Mary A. Dostal, 77, Badger, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at home.

Mary Agnes Hustad was born March 3, 1921, the daughter of David and Agnes (Huml) Hustad, in Minneapolis. She moved with her family to Greenbush, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1940. She attended teachers' training in Bemidji. She taught in Thief River Falls and Roseau County, Minn. She married Theodore Dostal on June 24, 1952, in Greenbush. They lived and farmed on the Dostal home farm in Skagen Township, Roseau County. Ted Dostal died May 6, 1981.

She is survived by sons, Steven (Donna), Roseau, Frank (Corinne) and Robert (Becky), both of Badger, and Roy, Thief River Falls; daughters, Barbara (David) Holtgard, Fargo, Susan (Terry) Schostag, Grand Forks, and Nancy (Michael) Gilbertson, Hazen, N.D.; and 17 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Badger.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the church.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in the spring (Collins, Greenbush).

Frances Schacher

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Frances Schacher, 94, Fosston, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, where she had lived since October 1998.

Frances Marie Abele was born April 27, 1904, the daughter of William and Mary (Thoma) Abele, in Sanborn, Minn. They moved near Fosston, where she attended school. She helped raise her brothers and sisters after her mother died. She married Andrew Schacher on Sept. 22, 1930, in Fosston. They lived and farmed near Fosston. In 1982, they moved into Fosston. Andrew Schacher died in 1990.

She is survived by daughters, Mary (Dennis) Griffin and Florence (Ernest) Nesvold, both of Fosston, and Lois (John) Torbett, Springfield, Mo.; sons, William (Jean), Fridley, Minn., and Donald (Nancy), Lengby, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Lindberg, Vancouver, Wash.; and a brother, Thomas "Dutch" (Frances), Fosston.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brothers, Leo, John and Bernard; and a sister, Rosella Abele.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fosston.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, Fosston).

Mary Riczo

MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Mary Riczo, 84, Mahnomen, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.

Mary Meece was born Sept. 18, 1915, the daughter of Jacob and Dora (Kellams) Meece, in Spencer County, Ind., where she attended school. She married Andrew Riczo on Nov. 14, 1931, in Marion County, Ind. She was a dietician for the National American Legion in Indiana and retired in 1973. She moved from Speedway, Ind., to the Waubun, Minn., area. She moved to the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home in November 1995.

She is survived by a son, Andrew (Marian), Fair Oaks, Calif.; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and a sister, Sandra (Ben) Bement, Waubun.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters; and two brothers.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Waubun, Minn.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.

Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Waubun (Mattson, Mahnomen).

Inez DuBore

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Inez DuBore, 86, Roseau, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in North Valley Health Center, Warren, Minn.

Inez Anderson was born March 7, 1912, the daughter of Iver and Marie Anderson, in Greenbush, Minn. She married Edward DuBore on Sept. 14, 1935, in Badger, Minn. They lived in Roseau. Edward DuBore died Sept. 2, 1989.

She is survived by a daughter, Myrna Ackman, Glendale, Ariz.; a son, Charles, Warren; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen, Longview, Wash.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Hulda, Evelyn and Jennie; and brothers, Elmer, Joel, Maynard, Clifford and Harry.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Roseau.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren, and Helgeson, Roseau).

Noel Haaland

ADA, Minn. -- Noel Haaland, 70, Ada, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, where he had been since Feb. 1, 1999.

Noel Ramstad Haaland was born Dec. 3, 1928, the son of Oscar and Anna Karie (Ramstad) Haaland, in Ada, where he graduated from high school in 1948. He worked in Ada. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 23, 1950 to Nov. 1, 1951. He returned to Ada, where he worked for the Great Northern Railway as a line crew man. He was self employed doing general labor jobs. He also did upholstery and floor covering work. He moved to Lutheran Memorial Home, Twin Valley, Minn., on Jan. 7, 1999.

He is survived by sisters, Sandy (Don) Hausten, Ada, and Zola Ste Marie, Red Lake Falls, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Flo Volkerding.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Grace Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: Noon until the time of services in the church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).

Jens Nelsen

HENDRUM, Minn. -- Jens Nelsen, 98, Detroit Lakes, Minn., formerly of Hendrum, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in St. Mary's Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.

Jens Inggard Nelsen was born July 20, 1900, the son of Borre and Gusta (Jenson) Nelsen, in Grimstad, Norway. At the age of 6, he moved with his family to New York and later to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He attended school in New York and Montreal. He married Julia Berg on Jan. 5, 1924, in Hendrum, Minn. They lived in Detroit Lakes, where he worked as a boiler operator foreman for Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. He retired July 29, 1965, and returned to Hendrum. Julia Nelsen died July 10, 1971. In December 1996, he moved to Halstad, Minn. He returned in October 1997 to Detroit Lakes, where he lived at Whispering Pines-Yodeling Spruce Ranch.

He is survived by sons, Earl (Charlotte), Shelly, Minn., George, California, and Richard, Detroit Lakes; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gertie Ender, Montreal.

He was preceded in death by a brother; and a sister.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Pauli Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum (Fredrikson, Ada, Minn.).

Madeline Jasper

ERSKINE, Minn. -- Madeline Jasper, 76, Erskine, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine.

Madeline Magdaline Furey was born Feb. 9, 1923, the daughter of John and Mary (Keough) Furey, in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, where she attended school. She married Stanley Jasper on Aug. 1, 1943, in St. Johns. They moved to Crookston, where she worked as a waitress at the Eagles Club, the V.F.W. Club and other locations. They moved to Union Lake, Minn., in 1963 and later to Badger Lake, Minn., both near Erskine. She was a waitress at Moran's Supper Club and Toupin's, both in Erskine. Stanley Jasper died May 15, 1997. She moved into Erskine.

She is survived by daughters, Diane (Larry) Altringer, and Linda (Arvid) Kuehl, both of Erskine, and Mary (Wilmar) Anderson, Halstad, Minn.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Angela Abbott, Lucy Cole and Nell Kitchen, all of St. Johns, and Jean Turner, Cartridge, Miss.; and a brother, Jack, Toronto, Canada.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Syl and George; and a sister, Florence.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Grace Lutheran Church, Erskine.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 5: 30 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Erskine, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.

Lillian Ingeman

HALLOCK, Minn. -- Lillian Ingeman, 73, Hallock, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Lillian Mary Smith was born Aug. 12, 1925, the daughter of Andrew and Dora (Christofferson) Smith, in Stephen, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1944. She married Elmer Ingeman on March 31, 1945, in Stephen. They lived and farmed near Hallock since 1945. During the winter months, they lived in Mesa.

She is survived by her husband; a sister, Doris (Wallace) Olson, Karlstad, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Inette Smith and Eunice Smith; and brothers-in-law, Harold Hanson and Ed Hoard.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and James; and sisters, Sophie Meek, Evelyn Hanson and Margaret Hoard; and a brother and sister in infancy.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Stephen.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock.

Burial: Union Liberty Cemetery, Hallock.

Mildred Gums

HALLOCK, Minn. -- Mildred Gums, 89, Hallock, formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Hallock Memorial Nursing Home.

Mildred Henrietta Muir was born Oct. 14, 1909, the daughter of William and Henrietta (Moen) Muir, in Hallock, where she graduated from high school in 1927. In 1929, she moved to Jamestown, where she worked for the North Dakota State Hospital for 46 years as supervisor of housekeeping before retiring. She married Jacob Gums on July 10, 1940, in Warren, Minn. He died Oct. 21, 1994. In 1995, she moved to Hallock.

She is survived by sisters, Annie (William) Hanson, Thief River Falls, Ruby Sorenson, Hallock, and Louise (Willard) Leff, Alton, Ill.

She was preceded in death by a son, William; three brothers; and two sisters.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, First United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Martha Cederholm

CLEMENTSON, Minn. -- Martha Cederholm, 80, Clementson, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at home.

Martha Lotta Witt was born May 19, 1918, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Hampel) Witt, in Clementson. She lived and helped her brother, August, on the family farm. She married Harvey Warner Cederholm on March 28, 1947, in Baudette, Minn. She worked for Marvin Windows, Warroad, Minn., until retiring in 1981. Harvey Cederholm died July 22, 1994.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Allyn) Rathke, Phoenix; a son, Clifford (Marcia), Clementson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Uricka Witt, Gertrude Howdahl and Erna Glessingland; and brothers, Carl and August.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Clementson Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Clementson Cemetery.
