Josephine A. Jones

CLIMAX, Minn. -- Josephine A. Jones, 99, Sartell, Minn., formerly of Climax, died Feb. 1, 1999, in Country Manor Nursing Home, Sartell, where she had lived since 1992.

Josephine A. Hong was born Oct. 9, 1899, the daughter of John and Marie (Olson) Hong, in Climax, where she graduated from high school. She attended Bemidji State Teachers College, Moorhead State Teachers College and UND, earning a degree in education. She taught school in Warren, Minn., and East Grand Forks, until retiring in 1966. She married Walter Jones in June 1934. She lived in Crookston from 1935 until moving to East Grand Forks in 1941.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Roger) Haire, St. Cloud; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and Morris; and sisters, Ruth Peterson, Jennie Erickson, Gladys Hong and an infant.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Country Manor Nursing Home Chapel.

Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Williams Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and one hour before services in the nursing home.

Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.

Bernice Traaseth

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Bernice Traaseth, 78, Bagley, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.

Bernice Negaard was born March 1, 1920, the daughter of Olaf and Olga (Roen) Negaard, in Buzzle Township, Beltrami County, Minn. She attended school in Pinewood, Minn. She did housework and baby-sat when she was 12. She was Shevlin (Minn.) Township assessor for 13 years. She worked at Minnesota Wood Products, the Wilton Steakhouse and Bridgeman's Cafe, Bemidji. She married Goodwin Traaseth on Jan. 13, 1940, in Pinewood. She cooked for 13 years for Lundmark's Cafe, Bagley. They bought the cafe, where she cooked for 8 years. They also bought and owned the Rodeo Drive Inn, in Gonvick, Minn. She did catering and made wedding cakes. After they sold Lundmark's Cafe she cooked for Viking Cafe, Bagley, and Bagley Hospital until retiring in 1988. She was a substitute school bus driver. She sold lefse to area grocery stores.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Orlyn (Sandi), New Richmond, Wis.; daughters, Agnetta (Roger) Person, Mitchell, S.D., and Gladys Trisco, Bagley; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Doris (Eddie) Olson and Charlotte (Vernon) Forde, both of Bemidji.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; brothers, John and Oscar; and sisters, Norma, Avis, Ellen, Margaret and Irene.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery, Shevlin.

Marion E. Pinsonneault

RED LAKE COUNTY, Minn. -- Marion E. Pinsonneault, 87, Wabasha, Minn., formerly of Red Lake County, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha.

Marion E. Arel was born Jan. 29, 1911, the daughter of Ernest and Cora (Trudeau) Arel, in Red Lake County. She attended school in Crookston. She received her teacher's training in Crookston. She taught country schools in Red Lake County. She married Albert "Bert" Pinsonneault on Aug. 17, 1933, in Gentilly, Minn. She was a homemaker. They moved to Wabasha in 1946. Albert Pinsonneault died Aug. 12, 1985.

She is survived by daughters, Judy (Norman) Davidson, Pinson, Ala., and Mary Beth (Dennis) Thompson, Honolulu, Hawaii; sons, Dr. Larry (Gretchen), Houston, Wayne (Ona), St. Paul, Michael (Jan), Red Wing, Minn., and Alan (Nancy), Bellevue, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey (Vivian), Crookston.

Services: Were held in St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha.

Burial: St. Felix Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Felix Catholic School (Abbott, Wabasha).

Florence Anderson

MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- Florence Anderson, 94, Middle River, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, in Karlstad (Minn.) Memorial Nursing Center, where she had lived since February 1991.

Florence Hattie Peltola was born March 24, 1904, the daughter of Everet and Hilda (Vinkka) Peltola, in Soudan, Minn. In 1912, she moved with her family to Middle River. She graduated from Middle River High School and attended teachers' training in Bemidji. She taught at various rural schools from 1923 to 1930, including schools in Thief River Falls and Thief Lake, Minn. She married Edward Anderson on July 1, 1928, in Middle River. They lived in Spruce Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn. Edward Anderson died Jan. 19, 1957. She later moved to a nursing home in Thief River Falls.

She is survived by sons, Maynard (Ilene), Hallsville, Mo., and Otto, Newfolden; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Oswald, Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Vienna; and brothers, Eugene, Walter and Herbie.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, New Hope Lutheran Church, Newfolden, Minn.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River.

Burial: Spruce Valley Cemetery, Middle River.

Hubert L. Brohaugh

SHELLY, Minn. -- Hubert L. Brohaugh, 85, Shelly, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo.

Hubert LeRoy Brohaugh was born Dec. 3, 1913, the son of Joseph "J.O." and Talettie "Lettie" (Aamodt) Brohaugh, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He attended school in Shelly, Fertile and Halstad, Minn. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He married Lillian "Peggy" Efteland on June 18, 1949, in Moorhead. She died on Feb. 11, 1995. He farmed with his brother, Welden, on the family farm in Shelly. He retired from farming in 1979 and spent winters in Mesa, Ariz. After his retirement, he helped his son on the farm. He married Lillian Amundson on Sept. 2, 1995, in Shelly.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Keith (Kristen), Shelly; four grandchildren; a stepson, Butch (Tami) Amundson, Vancouver, Wash.; nine stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Lyleth Carlson, Rockford, Ill.; a brother, Welden (Verna), Fargo, and a sister-in-law, Valborg Brohaugh, Rockford.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph "Vernon"; and a stepdaughter, Rochelle Schneringer.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Shelly-Marsh River Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 5 top 7 p.m. Monday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Shelly Cemetery.

Lilly T. Olson

BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Lilly T. Olson, 94, Baudette, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in Lakewood Care Center, Baudette.

Lilly T. Johnson was born April 9, 1904, the daughter of Theodore and Mary Elizabeth (Naplin) Johnson, in Hatton, N.D. She moved with her family to Hubbard County, Ferris, Minn., in 1914. She graduated from high school in Cass Lake, Minn., in 1921. She attended Bemidji State Teachers College. She taught for two years. She married Elmer Dronen on Feb. 24, 1925, in Valley City, N.D. They moved to Alaska, where she worked as a civil service clerk through World War II and the Korean War. She married Leonard Olson on Feb. 9, 1942, in International Falls, Minn. They lived in several places. In 1973 they moved to Baudette. Leonard died in 1978. She moved into Lakewood Care Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Laurel Burk-Holder, Sylmar, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Colleen Johnson.

She was preceded in death by daughters, Theodore Spafford and Merlyn Barton; and a grandson.

Services: 10 a.m. today, First Lutheran Church, Baudette.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Elm Park Cemetery, Baudette (Helgeson, Baudette).

Sadie Rasmussen

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Sadie Rasmussen, 91, Bagley, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.

Sadie Nalley was born April 18, 1907, the daughter of Charles and Anna Nalley, in Putnam County, Mo. She lived in several communities in the midwest. She worked at a resort in Walker, Minn. She married Otto Rasmussen on Oct. 23, 1926. They moved to St. Paul, and then to Bagley in 1965. Otto Rasmussen died Sept. 17, 1969. She had resided in Greensview Health Care Center since 1987.

She is survived by sons, Edward (Betty), Bagley, and Otto Jr. (Joyce), Eagan, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a sisters; and three brothers.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Bagley City Cemetery.

Florence Nabben

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. -- Florence Nabben, 91, Thief River Falls, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center, Convalescent Nursing Care Unit, Thief River Falls.

Florence S. Sather was born Jan. 17, 1907, the daughter of Lars and Clara (Erickson) Sather, in Big Woods, Minn., where she attended school. She married Henry Nabben on June 20, 1937, in Wolf Point, Mont. They lived in Thief River Falls. Henry Nabben died in 1968.

She is survived by sons, Henry (Lynette), Burnsville, Minn., and LeRoy (Abigail), Thief River Falls; a daughter, Sandra (Robert) Nyvall, Grand Rapids, Minn.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; sisters, Mary Melo, Cora Larson and Amy Larson; and brothers, Leo and Albin.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

Maynard C. Howe

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Maynard C. Howe, 100, Fosston, formerly of Erskine, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, where he had lived since January 1993.

Maynard Clarence Howe was born Aug. 5, 1898, the son of Christian and Emma (Nelson) Howe, in Buffalo, Minn. He married Emma Strom on Dec. 17, 1926. She died in 1984. He owned and operated Howe Studio, Erskine. He also worked as a retail clerk, owned a cafe in McIntosh, Minn., and operated theaters in Erskine and McIntosh.

He is survived by daughters, Evangeline "Vannie" (Joe) Espeseth, Erskine, and Dolores Santelli, San Diego; a son, Ron (Renee), Erskine; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Stanley and Walter; and five sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest and Raymond; and sisters, Stella Howe, Ruth Howe, Iva Howe Johnson and Clara Howe Casselman.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Grace Lutheran Church, Erskine.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Erskine, and hour before services in the church.

Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Erskine.

Lloyd V. Olson

FERTILE, Minn. -- Lloyd V. Olson, 83, Fertile, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.

Lloyd Vernon Olson was born May 26, 1915, the son of John and Olina (Larson) Olson, in Fertile, where he attended school. He worked on the farm and as a farm laborer. He married Lorraine Billings on Aug. 19, 1950, in Beltrami, Minn. He worked for Great Northern Railroad and American Crystal Sugar, Crookston. He also owned a milk route and truck and Dray Line service, Fertile. He drove school bus for Fertile-Beltrami School Dist. From 1977 to 1997 he worked with his son-in-law, Carsten Hovland, farming. He moved to Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, in November 1998.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Larry (Linda), Mayville, N.D.; a daughter, Lori (Carsten) Hovland, Fertile; five grandchildren; a brother, Milo (Inez), Arlington, Texas; a sister, Myrtle (Dr. Paul) Wells, Harlan, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Blanche Olson, Fertile.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Oliver and Alvin.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a 4: 30 p.m. prayer service, Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.

Marion Olson

Marion Olson, 94, Cannon Falls, Minn., formerly of Grand Forks, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Our Lady of the Angels Care Center, Cannon Falls, where she had lived since April 1997.

Marion Esther Soland was born Dec. 16, 1904 the daughter of Engebret Truls and Otillia (Roseth) Soland, in Canton, Minn., where she attended school. She attended Mankato State, and graduated with her teaching certificate from Winona State Teachers College. She taught in St. Louis County Consolidated Schools, Zim, Minn., Barnum, Minn., Lanesboro, and Cannon Falls. She married Merle Olson on Aug. 1, 1936, in St. Paul. He died Nov. 27, 1976. She lived in Hawaii with her daughter, Maren from 1982 until moving to Grand Forks to live with her son, Edwin. She moved back to Cannon Falls in April 1997.

She is survived by children, Edwin (Bette), Grand Forks, Merle Jr. (Marjory), San Antonio, and Maren (Alec) McBarnet, Kula, Maui, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Bill) Atland, Cottage Grove, Ore.; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Soland, Cresco, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Ellsworth "Dick", Raymond "Pinky" and Arnold; and sisters, Helen Cole and Geneva Soland.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, First English Lutheran Church, Canon Falls.

Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 4: 30 p.m. prayer service, Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Cannon Falls Cemetery.
