David G. Stenlund

MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- David G. Stenlund, 51, Apple Valley, Minn., formerly of Mahnomen, died Dec. 13, 1998, in Apple Valley.

David Gene Stenlund was born Jan. 24, 1947, the son of Everett and Darlene (Meinertz) Stenlund, in Crookston. He moved with his family to Mahnomen in 1956, where he graduated from high school in 1964. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 and was discharged in 1970. He received a degree in electronics from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis and received a degree in Avionics from Alexandria Tech in 1973. He married Patricia Holleran on June 29, 1973, in Minneapolis. In 1973 be began working for Northwest Airlines as an Avionic-electrician

He is survived by his wife; sons, Aaron, Shane and Lance, all of Apple Valley; his mother, Mahnomen; and a brother, Michael (Rita), Albany, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services: Were held in Rosemont, Minn.

Burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis (Mattson, Mahnomen).

Allen C. Cirks

ADA, Minn. -- Allen C. Cirks, 56, Ada, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at home.

Allen Curtis Cirks was born Oct. 15, 1942, the son of Fred and Lucille (Lohmeier) Cirks, in Ada, where he graduated in 1961. In the early 1960s, he began working with an electrical agency constructing high -ine power poles throughout the Midwest. He returned to Ada in 1974 and began working for Ada Grain Elevator. In the early 1990s, he began working for himself doing general labor jobs, yard care, moving snow and worked for the Ada North Beet Piler in the fall. He worked for Mrs. Betty Hetland.

He is survived by his stepmother, Adeline Cirks, Fertile, Minn.; and a sister, Janis (Gerald) Folk, Corona, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gerald.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery.

Oscar W. Johnson

SHELLY, Minn. -- Oscar W. Johnson, 86, Shelly, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Oscar William Johnson was born Jan. 4, 1912, the son of Marinius and Gunelle (Karlson) Johnson, in Gann Valley, S.D., where he attended school. He worked with his father on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 26, 1942. He was discharged Nov. 27, 1945. He married Thelma Torkelson on Oct. 20, 1946, in Shelly. They lived in Florida before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked on the docks overseeing the loading of cargo from ships to transport trucks. In 1947, they returned to Shelly. They later moved to Moorhead, where he worked for Union Transfer and Storage. He worked for Pierce Trailer Sales and Service, transferring to Grand Forks and then to Williston. They returned to Shelly in 1960. He began working for S&S Construction in Moorhead. He retired in 1981.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Vaughn (Shirley), Argusville, N.D., and Randy, Shelly; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Shelly-Marsh River Lutheran Church.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Shelly Cemetery (Fredrikson, Halstad, Minn.)

Lloyd V. Anderson

MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- Lloyd V. Anderson, 83, Middle River, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at home.

Lloyd Vernon Anderson was born June 4, 1915, the son of Gotfred and Hilda (Bloomquist) Anderson, in Spruce Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn., Middle River, where he attended school. He worked for Nordlum Dairy, International Falls, Minn., and in 1936 began working for the Great Northern Railway. He retired in 1976. He married Eleanor Peterson on Sept. 29, 1940, in Middle River.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Dale (Lois), Middle River; two grandchildren; a son-in-law, Dean Klegstad; and sisters-in-law, Harriet, Emma and Eileen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan; brothers, Frank, Andy, Kiffy and Himmie; and sisters, Beatrice and Myrtle.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Lutheran Church, Middle River.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Spruce Valley Cemetery, Middle River.

Mary Wavra

RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. -- Mary Wavra, 85, Red Lake Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, where she had lived since fall 1994.

Mary Edith Steer was born Dec. 17, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Ball) Steer, in Killarney, Man. At the age of 7, she moved with her family to the United States and lived in Euclid, Minn., where she attended school. She married Dorn Wavra on Oct. 20, 1931, in Euclid. They lived and farmed in Euclid until retiring in 1980 and moving to Red Lake Falls. Dorn Wavra died in 1982.

She is survived by a son, Eugene (Jeanette), Crookston; daughters, Dariene (Darrel) Lizotte, Mount Vernon, Wash., and Sharon (Mike) Woinarowicz, Fargo; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Wavra, Red Lake Falls; 29 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry, Crookston, and Charles (Ione), Euclid; and sisters, Amy Hoeper, Stephen, Minn., Nola Schielle, Portland, Ore., and Florence Rood, Crookston.

She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack; and an infant sister.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Dorothy (Minn.) Catholic Church.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Prairie View Cemetery, Euclid (Petterson, Red Lake Falls).

Clifford L. Mattson

SALOL, Minn. -- Clifford L. Mattson, 77, Salol, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at home.

Clifford Leverne Mattson was born June 12, 1921, the son of Erick and Kristina (Lindblad) Mattson, in Salol, where he attended school. He worked on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for M.G. Astleford Co., in the Twin Cities. In 1983, he returned to Salol.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, Roseau; stepchildren, Larry (Linda) Knudsen, Marietta, Ga., Cindy (Richard) Mattson, Roseau, and Lynne (Frank) Sierra, Lafayette, La.; and sisters, Lillian Zimmer, Salol, and Ann Strandland, Roseau.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Helge, Arthur, and two infant brothers; and sisters, Nellie Mattson Korshak, Ida Mattson and Ellen Spray.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Lutheran Church, Salol.

Visitation: Noon to 5 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Spruce Cemetery, Roseau.

Paul 'Swede' Swanson

WARREN, Minn. -- Paul "Swede" Swanson, 48, Warren, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in St. Ansgar's Hospital, Park River, N.D.

Paul W. Swanson was born March 22, 1950, the son of Wilbert and Phyllis (Johnson) Swanson, in Warren. He worked on the family farm in Euclid, Minn. In 1968, he graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. He married Jaclyn Hamerlik on Sept. 3, 1971, in Crookston. In 1976, they moved to Warren and continued to farm until 1997. From 1980 to 1995, he worked for the Earl Mallinger Farms, and in 1998, he began working for Gowan Construction.

He is survived by his wife; children, Timothy, Alvarado, Minn., Luke, Grand Forks, and Joel, Kari and Faith, all of Warren; sisters, Lynette (Jim) Briden, Fargo, and Jodi (Alan) Maloney, East Grand Forks; and stepfather, Earl Mallinger, Oslo, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Church of God, Grand Forks.

Visitation: After 6: 30 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Vega Baptist Cemetery, Vega Township, Marshall County, Minn.

Floyd Lundeen

TRAIL, Minn. -- Floyd Lundeen, 85, formerly of Trail, died Feb. 16, 1999, in Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria, Minn.

Floyd Lundeen was born Dec. 6, 1913, the son of Frank and Olga (Peterson) Lundeen, in Trail, where he attended school. He worked on area farms until he purchased a dairy farm and operated it until his retirement in 1978. He married Violet Monson on Oct. 16, 1937, in Trail. They moved to Fosston, Minn. Violet Lundeen died in 1980. He married Ruth Strand on April 7, 1984, in St. Louis Park, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis until moving to Alexandria in 1989.

He is survived by his wife; sons, David (Judy), Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Arden and Vincent (Gelene), both of Oklee, Minn.; daughters, Crystal (Glenn) Bergerson, Gully, Minn., and Denise Martell, Crookston; a son-in-law, Chris Jensen, Thief River Falls; stepsons, Robert (Donna) Strand, Springfield, Mo., Eugene (Judy) Strand, Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Douglas Strand, Burnsville, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Fred, Oklee; and a sister, Otelia Mandt, Marshall, Wis.

He was preceded in death by daughters, Wanda Lundeen, Marcia Jenson and an infant; a son-in-law, Gerald Carlson; and brothers, Oscar, Emil, Walter and Herbert.

Services: Were held in Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Alexandria, and Bethel Assembly, Fosston.

Marie Sather

GONVICK, Minn. -- Marie Sather, 84, Duluth, formerly of Gonvick, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, in McCarthy Manor, Duluth.

Marie A. Faldet was born Nov. 22, 1914, the daughter of Iver and Guri (Hanson) Faldet, in Gonvick, where she attended school. She married Hammond Sather in 1945. They lived with Marie's brother, Henry, before moving to Duluth, where she worked at St. Mary's Hospital. Hammond Sather died in 1981.

She is survived by a brother, Anton (Alvina), McIntosh, Minn.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry and John.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Samhold Lutheran Church, Gonvick.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Church Cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, Fosston, Minn.).

Alice M. Boyd

RED LAKE, Minn. -- Alice M. Boyd, 76, Red Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, in Red Lake Hospital.

Alice Mary Sumner was born Aug. 24, 1922, the daughter of Simon and Carrie (Beaulieu) Sumner, in Red Lake, where she attended school. She attended Bemidji State University. She lived in Bemidji, and taught Indian cultures at Bemidji State University.

She is survived by a son, James Morrison, Red Lake; a sister, Evelyn Hastings, Onamia, Minn.; and a brother, Robert, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake.

Visitation: Begins 5 p.m. today, Little Rock Community Center, Red Lake.

Burial: Red Lake Cemetery in the spring (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).

John A. Gust

STRATHCONA, Minn. -- John A. Gust, 85, Strathcona, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at home.

John Alex Gust was born Feb. 9, 1914, the son of Anton and Elizabeth (Puttbrese) Gust, in Poplar Grove Township, Roseau County, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Benwood, Minn. He married Georgeanna Svoboda on Oct. 16, 1937, in Greenbush. They lived and farmed in Poplar Grove Township.

He is survived by his wife; a son, James (Ruth), Strathcona; daughters, Diane (Clarence) Dahl and Arlette (Gary) Pearson, both of Middle River, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen (Steve) Kaml, Greenbush, and Rose (Jim) Ranney, Brainerd, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Johnnie; brothers, Alvin, Phillip, Ervin and an infant; and sisters, Florence Johnson, Ella Paulsen and an infant.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Benwood.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: Gust Cemetery, Strathcona (Collins, Greenbush, Minn.

Joshua M. Gross

GREENBUSH, Minn. -- Joshua M. Gross, 22, Greenbush, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at home.

Joshua Michael Gross was born Jan. 30, 1977, the son of Michael and Jill (Brinkman) Gross, in Greenbush, where he graduated from high school in 1996. He worked for Jeff's Super Service Amoco, Greenbush.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Erick; sisters, Carmen (Rocky) Holmes, Jessica and Meggan; and grandparents, LaMonte and Dorothy Gross and Gerald and Norma Brinkman, all of Greenbush.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Oiland Lutheran Church, Greenbush.

Burial: Oiland Lutheran Cemetery (Gieseke, Greenbush).
