Floyd Uggen
Floyd Uggen, 84, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Wednesday (October 18th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (October 23rd) at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN with Lee Hoaas officiating.
Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh.
Floyd Milford Uggen was born on March 10, 1922 in Erskine, Minnesota to parents Fritz and Margaret (Johnson) Uggen.
He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh.
Floyd farmed his entire life in the McIntosh and Erskine areas.
He served on the country school board until the school consolidated in the McIntosh District.
He also helped organize and build the McIntosh Potato Company Board and was a member of East Polk County Soil Conservation District for 27 years.
Floyd played basketball in high school and he loved basketball and most sports.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature.
Floyd passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine at the age of 84 years.
He is survived by many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Christ; and one sister, Alice Uggen.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Hanson, Harold Thompson, Bud Stenmoen, Armond Sannes, Lee Hartel, Wayne Gustafson and Clifton Burslie.
Active Pallbearers will be Philip Quam, Mike Hanson, Charles Svalen, Bud Kiecker, Albert Mandt, Roy Ostenaa, and Lee Hoaas.
Alfred P. Johnson
Alfred P. Johnson, age 96, from McIntosh, MN passed away on Monday, October 16th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 10:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center, and for one hour before the funeral at the church.
Interment will be at Maple Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mentor, MN, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements.
Alfred Peter Johnson was born in Laporte, Minnesota on November 11, 1909 to parents Jens and Hilda (Onstad) Johnson.
At the age of 6, he moved with his family to Woodside Township, rural Mentor, Minnesota.
He was baptized in Laporte, and confirmed at Maple Lake Lutheran Church near Mentor
Alfred married Gladys Rudella Strand on September 8, 1929.
To this union were born four children, Gordon, Arlene, Lois, and David.
Gladys passed away in June 1943.
Alfred married Adeline Bakken on October 14, 1944.
To this union were born four children, Wesley, Curtis, Darrel, and Kevin.
They farmed in Woodside Township until October 1958 when they moved to McIntosh, MN where they owned and operated Johnson Rest Home for the elderly until August 1972.
Alfred did carpentry work and worked at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home until he retired in 1986.
Adeline passed away in August 1991.
In June 2004, Alfred moved to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.
Alfred was a charter member of Mt. Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh where he served on the Church Council and as Sunday School Superintendent.
He enjoyed singing in the Barber Shop Quartet and small groups in church.
He also enjoyed woodworking and made several clocks for his family, and being out in the woods and cutting wood for the woodstove.
Alfred was a gentle humble Christian man who loved his family and especially in later years his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Monday, October 16, 2006 Alfred passed away at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 5 days.
Survivors include his children, Gordon (Dorothy) Johnson of St. Hilaire, MN, Arlene Schipper of Crookston, MN, Lois (DuWayne) Schultz of Golden Valley, MN, David (Barbara Lee) Johnson of Grand Prairie, TX, Wesley Johnson of Aloha, OR, Darrel (Marvelyn) Johnson of McIntosh, and Kevin (Janelle) Johnson of Gresham, OR; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and one sister, Lena Refling of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gladys; his second wife Adeline; infant son, Curtis D. Johnson; brothers, Ingvart, Selmer, Joe, Roy, Harry, and Ernest; infant granddaughter, Nancee Johnson; great granddaughter, Angie Berggren; and son-in-law, Bobbie Schipper.
Norman Hallebrot
Norman Hallebrot, 68, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday (October 13th) at his home in Erskine.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (October 19th) at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, with Pastor Alan Arneson officiating.
Interment will be in Sorum Cemetery, rural Erskine.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine.
Norman Elroy Paul Hallebrot was born on July 12, 1938 in rural Erskine, Minnesota to parents Ole and Carrie (Dovery) Hallebrot.
He grew up north of Erskine in Badger Township and attended rural school.
He entered the United States Army, faithfully serving his country until his honorable discharge.
He returned to Erskine and lived with his mother until her death in 1967.
He then moved into Erskine and lived with his uncle until his passing in 1984.
He is a lifelong resident of Erskine.
Norman passed away on Friday, October 13, 2006 at his home in Erskine at the age of 68 years, three months and one day.
Survivors include his sister, Adeline Loeffler of Hallock, MN; eight nieces and nephews, Monica (Gerald) O’ttara of San Diego, CA, Patricia Hutchinson of Grand Forks, ND, Terrance (Laurie) Loeffler of Grand Forks, ND, Michael (Susan) Loeffler of Yuma, AZ, Rosalie (Kenneth) Loeffler-Kemp of Duluth, MN, Karen (Daniel) Carpenter of Warroad, MN, Colleen (Mic) Lind of Sartell, MN, and Bryan (Sherri) Loeffler of Arlington, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lyla; brother, Orville; two nephews, Kevin Loeffler and Jonathan Loeffler; and brother-in-law, Francis Loeffler.
Arvid "Clem" Clementson
Arvid "Clem" Clementson, age 81, of Fosston, MN and current Mayor of the City of Fosston, passed away on Thursday (October 12th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (October 17th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating.
Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday (October 16th) and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, all at Kingo Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.
Arvid Newton Clementson was born to parents Joseph and Nellie (Gandrud) Clementson on February 21, 1925 in Fosston, MN.
As a child he attended schools in Erskine and Fosston and graduated with the Fosston High School class of 1942.
In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and served as a Sergeant in World War II through 1946.
After his honorable discharge, he attended Moorhead State College and later joined his father and brother in Clementson & Sons Construction.
On March 18, 1950 Arvid was joined in marriage to Alene Naastad.
To this union, five children were born: Bonnie, Dean, Nancy, Joseph and Jennifer.
Arvid & Alene raised their family in Fosston, except for two years when the construction business brought them to Texas.
Arvid owned and operated Clem’s Corner Café in Fosston in the early 1960’s.
He was employed as a U.S. Postal Service employee for several years until he became a sales representative for Oxford Chemicals in 1973, serving northwestern MN and eastern ND.
His sales career continued when he formed his own company, Clem’s Chemicals, which he continued to operate to the present.
Arvid is most likely best remembered for his years of public service.
In 1962 he was elected to the Fosston City Council and served for one term.
He was elected as Fosston’s Mayor in 1966 and served through 1976.
He ran again for Mayor in 1980 and has served in that capacity to the present.
Arvid was also active in the DFL Party serving in various delegate and volunteer capacities.
He held membership in several civic organizations including being a Charter member of the Fosston Rotary Club and a Charter and Lifetime member of the Fosston Community Club.
Arvid was passionate about Fosston.
He believed in the community and what its residents could achieve.
He believed in what people working together could do to “get the job done”.
Arvid recognized the efforts of volunteers in the community who made Fosston a great city, including those involved in Fosston Senior Meals, Fosston Civic Center, the Fosston Library and Arts Center addition, Embassy Center, East Polk Heritage Center and most recently, the Berge-Stafford Park Coalition Project.
In 1996 he initiated the Fosston All-America City project, which received national recognition that year through the combined efforts of an enthusiastic team of volunteers.
He was awarded the League of Minnesota Cities C.C. Ludwig Award in 1997 for his leadership role in local government.
In his tireless effort to promote Fosston, he created the “Cordwood Pete” legend, which has generated a statewide interest for tourism.
He recently published his second edition of the “Adventures of Cordwood Pete” which are stories that combine legend and reality.
Proceeds from his Cordwood Pete activities were designed to support local tourism activities including Fosston’s Annual Heritage Days.
Arvid was an oil portrait and landscape artist.
He received notoriety in the 1960’s for his political portraits, including recognition from Jacqueline B. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Hubert H. Humphrey among others.
He was a commercial sign painter and many of his signs are seen throughout Fosston.
Arvid’s family brought great joy to his life.
Family traditions - including lutefisk for Christmas - meant so much to him.
In addition to time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren Arvid cherished celebrations with his large family network.
Arvid Clementson died on October 12, 2006 at the age of 81 years seven months and twenty-one days.
His son Dean; parents Joe and Nellie; brothers John and Willard; sisters Marian and Joanne preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Alene of Fosston; daughters Bonnie (Mike) Stewart of Fosston, Nancy Raguse of Wheaton, MN, Jennifer Harris (Jeff Thompson) of Phoenix, AZ; son, Joe (Sandy) Clementson of Staten Island, NY.
Grandchildren, Maggie, Ted, Andrew, and Ryan Stewart; Lou, Betsy and Carly Raguse.
Sister, Norma Dillenburg of Grand Forks, ND; sisters-in-law, Edna Mae Clementson of Clarkston, WA and Minette Naastad of Fosston; brothers-in-law Hayden Thompson of Denver, CO and Les (Ethel) Naastad of Lengby, MN.
Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Active Pallbearers are his grandchildren, Maggie Stewart, Lou Raguse, Betsy Raguse, Ted Stewart, Carly Raguse, Andrew Stewart, Ryan Stewart.
Honorary Pallbearers are City of Fosston Employees & Officials and Arvid’s many friends and colleagues.
