Anthony Mathias Schaust

Services for Anthony Mathias Schaust, 79, of St. Michael, formerly of Delano, were Monday, April 16, 2000 at the Church of St. Peter in Delano.

Rev. Leonard Siebenaler officiated and interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano. Pallbearers were George Fake, Jr., Jerry Litfin, Douglas Schaust, Robert Farniok, Leonard Schaust, Jr. and Ivan Dingmann.

Mr. Schaust died Thursday, April 13, 2000 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. He was born June 7, 1920 to Anthony M. and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust in Franklin Township. He was married to Delores E. Fake.

Mr. Schaust farmed in the Delano area before returning to St. Michael. He was a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Montrose VFW Post 1901, Delano American Legion Post 377, St. Anthony's and St. Ann's Society and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by wife, Delores of St. Michael; daughters, Susan Broll, Beth and Timmy, of Montrose, Karen (John) Holmberg, Katie and Samuel of Minnetonka, Marie (Martin) Hackbarth, Michele, Matt, Mike and Mark of Watertown and Juanita (Tom) Schultz, Laura, Christopher and Marissa of Plymouth; son, Anthony (Linda) Schaust of Delano; brothers, Loren (Dorothy) Schaust, Joe (Lorraine) Schaust, George (Joan) Schaust and Leonard (Maxine) Schaust, all of Delano and Matt (Estelle) Schaust of Excelsior; sisters, Matilda Florek of St. Michael, Leona (George) Fake, Elizabeth Gabrelcik, Arlene (Glen) Litfin and Jean (Ambrose) Farniok, all of Delano; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

James F. Speikers

Services for James F. Speikers, 59, of Watertown, were Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Rev. Frank Wampach officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kurt Kroll, Tom Skoogman, Brian Gulsvig, Todd Ballalatak, Joel Mernik, Nathan Soley, Bill Mernik and Mark Mernik. Honorary bearers were grandchildren Jessa, Max, Katie, Jack, Ian, Regan, Grace, Tucker, Charlie, Billy, Elizabeth, Markie and Jimmy. Military honors were by Delano American Legion Post 377.

Mr. Speikers died at his residence Tuesday, April 11, 2000. He was born to Ferdinand and Lucy (Hartman) Speikers July 16, 1940 in Montgomery, Minn. He was married to Beverly C. Johnson.

Mr. Speikers graduated from Watertown High School and St. John's University in Collegeville. He served in the United States Army. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved the outdoors and all that went with it. Mr. Speikers worked as an independent sales representative for 35 years in the sporting goods industry. He had a passion for travel and boating and was especially fond of tarpon fishing. He founded James F. Speikers and Associates. He loved and adored his grandchildren and entire family and lived his life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ferdinand and Lucy. He is survived by wife, Beverly; daughters, Monica (Tom) Skoogman, Shelly (Brian) Gulsvig, Annie (Tom) Ballalatak and Kristen (Nathan) Soley; four step-children, Michelle (Kurt) Kroll, William (Lisa) Mernik, Mark (Amy) Mernik and Joel Mernik; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lou (Charlie) Jirik, Joanne (Jim) Dalglish and Charlotte (Nate) Johnson.

Christine A. Back

Services for Christine A. Back, 41, of Loretto were Sunday, April 16, 2000 at Gearty-Delmore Chapel of Plymouth.

Mrs. Back died Wednesday, April 5, 2000.

She is survived by husband, John "Buzz" Back III; sons William and Steven Draisey, John "Junior" Back IV; grandfather, Wallace Eck; father; one brother, two sisters.

Mrs. Back is preceded in death by mother, Lucille Eck; grandmother, Lila Mae Eck; and one brother.

Walter Berning

Services for Walter H. Berning, 91, of Albertville were conducted Saturday, April 8, 2000 at St. Albert Catholic Church in Albertville. Rev. Ronald Harrer, OMI, was the celebrant and interment followed at the St. Albert's Cemetery.

Special music for the Mass was provided by Lois and Alexis Roden.

Casket bearers were Steven Goenner, Eugene Goenner, Mark Berning, Bill Berning, Paul Berning, Thomas Berning and Daniel Berning.

Mr. Berning died Wednesday, April 5, at the Ebenezer Covenant Home.

He was born near St. Michael March 20, 1909, the son of Anton and Bertha Kasper Berning.

On Aug. 22, 1934, Mr. Berning and Isabelle Dahlheimer were joined in holy marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church. God blessed their marriage with three children: Margaret, Anthony and Robert. Mrs. Berning preceded her husband in death in 1989.

Mr. Berning engaged in farming north of Albertville for 60 years. He was a faithful member of the St. Albert Catholic Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Floyd) Goenner of Elk River; sons, Anthony "Tony" (Barbara) Berning of Albertville and Robert (Sharon) Berning of St. Michael; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nestor (Bernice) Von Bank of St. Michael; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Berning was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Theresa and Ann Marie Berning; three sisters, Luella, Marcella and Bridget; and a brother, Herbert "Harry" Berning.

Tom Braun

Services for Tom and Marcia (Hillenbrand) Braun, both 49, of Cloquet, formerly of Osseo and Brooklyn Park, who died tragically in an auto accident Thursday, April 13 in Marion, Ill., were Thursday, April 20, 2000 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet.

Survivors include their five children, Angela, Bridget, Megan, Ben and Gretchen.

Robert Longson

Services for Robert E. Longson, 76, of Maple Grove were Friday, March 31, 2000 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove.

Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Longson had been active in Toastmasters and acted in several community theatre plays. He was a columnist for the Post-Publishing Community newspaper and was active in his church choir. Mr. Longson helped set up the Brooklyn Park Athletic Association Parks, belonged to the Gene Perret's Round Table Comedy writing group and loved to fish and golf.

After 20 years of postal service he went back to the University of Minnesota and earned a master degree in Spanish/education. He moved the family to California and taught school for 10 years before retiring. After retirement he and his wife moved back to Minnesota where he continued to lead an extremely active lifestyle. He was a substitute teacher in Osseo Dist. 279 until March 6, 2000.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; daughter, Dawn L.; granddaughter, Dawn M.

Survivors include sons, Robert, Mark and John; daughters, Lynette (Jerry) Gardner, Cathleen Japs, Joan Hintz and Donna Marie Longson; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters and many other loving relatives and friends.

Valencia Eicher

Services for Valencia A. Eicher, 88, of St. Michael were conducted Friday, April 7, 2000 at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant.

Interment was Saturday, April 8, at the St. Michael Cemetery.

Mass servers were Matthew Gindele, Steven Gindele and Luke Gindele. The lector was Aaron Gindele. Sr. Joanne Dehmer, SSND, provided Prayers of the Faithful for the mass.

Honorary casket bearers were Fran Dehmer, Tom Dehmer, Jerry Dehmer, John Dehmer, Nick Dehmer and Al Gindele.

Casket bearers were Don Eicher, Denny Eicher, Dan Dehmer, Tom Gindele, Matt Dehmer and Eric Dehmer.

Ms. Eicher died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at the Parkview Care Center in Buffalo. She was born Dec. 15, 1911, in St. Michael, the daughter of George and Anna Hengels Eicher.

She was educated at the St. Michael Catholic School and cared for her mother many years, and was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Ms. Eicher is survived by a brother, Lambert (Irene) Eicher; and a sister, Laura Dehmer, all of St. Michael; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Eileen Morin

Services for Eileen Marie Morin, 91, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Corcoran, were Saturday, April 15, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corcoran with Rev. George Kinney officiating.

Interment was in Holy Trinity cemetery in Winsted with Rev. Paul Wolf, officiating.

Casket bearers were Joe Jansen, Bob Schmidt, David Belz, Joe Morin, LaVern Morin, and Gordon Rath.

Mrs. Morin died on Monday, April 10 at the Glendale Care Center in Glendale, Arizona.

She was born to John and Lena (Karels) Papberg in Minneapolis on April 10., 1908.

Mrs. Morin is survived by her son, Lyle "Smokey" and his wife, Mary Ann Morin of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Gordon Rath, MN; granddaughter; Sheila Roberta and Rebecca Belz; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Floyd C. Nulph

Services for Floyd C. Nulph, 84, of Champlin are Tuesday, April 18, at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home in Anoka.

Interment will be at the Champlin Cemetery. He died Wednesday, April 12, at the St. Therese Care Center in New Hope.

Mr. Nulph was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Minot, N.D. and worked as a painter and decorator.

Lawrence Potvin

Services for Lawrence James (L.J.) Potvin, 80, of Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth, formerly of Osseo, were Friday, April 14, 2000 with a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 9100 93rd Ave N., Brooklyn Park.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Potvin was born Aug. 7, 1919 at the family farm in Osseo, to parents Edward and Phoebe (Boucher) Potvin. He was the fourth of eight children, Mabel Huer, Lucille Carlsledt, Frank Potvin, Marion (William) Spoerner, Philomine (Roland) Fisher, Lorraine Mattson, Dorothy St. Jacque.

He attended county school, east of Osseo and graduated from Osseo High School in 1936. He was well known in the Osseo area and a direct descendant of the founder of the town of Osseo.

L.J. married Margaret Fagerstrom of Minneapolis on Feb. 7, 1942. They had five children, Lawrence (children: Lawrence Jr., Lisa, Randy, Lori, Rick and Jack), Allen (children: Karl, Jennifer and Lance), Michael (children: Wayne and Tina), Linda Taylor (children: Shawn, Chad and Marshall), and Mark (children: Michelle and Paige); and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Phoebe; son, Larry; and sister, Dorothy.

Gertrude Shellum

Services for Gertrude Shellum, 80, of Mound were Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

Pastor Paul R. Settergren officiated and interment followed at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Casket Bearers were Brian Shellum, Stacy Latvaaho, Chad Latvaaho, Holly Paulson, Guy Berglund and Mike Shellum.

Mrs. Shellum died Friday, April 7, 2000 at the St. Therese Home in New Hope.

She was born in Rockford Township, Wright County, Nov. 6, 1919, the daughter of George and Hulda Peikert.

Mrs. Shellum was baptized Dec. 23, 1919. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on July 30, 1933.

She was a waitress for many years. Later she was employed at Federal Cartridge and also provided care for homeless persons in her home. Through the years Gertrude enjoyed gardening and animals.

Mrs. Shellum is survived by a daughter: Myrna (Stanley) Berglund of St. Michael; a son: Michael Shellum of Mound; grandchildren: Holly (Ardell) Paulson of Sebeka, Stacy (Chad) Latvaaho of Monticello and Brian Shellum of Champlin; great grandchildren: Tiffany, Taylor, Stephanie and Aaron; sisters: Olga Sipe of Hanover and Esther (Elford) Schmidt of Green Isle; a brother: Harold Peikert of Rockford; a brother-in-law: Earl Hayes of Buffalo; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and brothers: Walter Peikert, Emil Peikert, Tillie Hayes, William Peikert, Alma Dixon, Elsie Hillstrom, and Lydia Kiphuth.

Christine Skubic

Services for Christine Marie Skubic, 42, of Maple Grove will be Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove.

Private family interment at Hillside Cemetery.

Mrs. Skubic died Sunday, April 16, in Maple Grove. She was born Dec. 29, 1957 in Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her father Burt Klietz.

Survivors include her husband Donald; son, Joseph; mother, Beatrice Klietz; brothers, Fred Klietz, Tom Klietz and Steve Klietz; sister, Sue Salzl; and other relatives and friends.

Harvey E. Thompson

Services for Harvey E. Thompson, 64, of Champlin were Friday, April 14, at Hillside Memorium Funeral Home. Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born in Morris, Minn. Oct. 28, 1935 to Elmer and Irene Thompson. He was a member of Teamster 221, Sheet Metal Union 547, and worked on the railroad.

He is survived by sons, Guy, Jeff, Shawn, Chris Thompson; grandchildren, Seth and Shaylah Thompson; brothers, Kenneth, Lyle, Earl; sisters, Esther, Donna, Harriet; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Irene; and sisters, Joyce, Marion and Adeline.

Leonette Baker

Services for Leonette M. Baker, 59, of Brooklyn Park were Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, 9600 Regent Ave. N., Brooklyn Park.

Burial was in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Osseo.

Mrs. Baker died Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Brooklyn Park. She was born June 28, 1941 in Hankinson, N.D.

She was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church and an 18-year registered nurse at Northwestern Hospital.

She was preceded in death her parents, Edward and Eleanor Wisnewski.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; sons, Kevin of Champlin, Keith of Coon Rapids and Bruce of St. Michael; brothers, Jerome of Geneseo, N.D.; sisters, Sister Juliana of Fargo, ND. and Mercedes Heley of Horace, N.D.; grandchildren, Matthew, Mikayla and Maison.

Memorials may be given to the Leonette M. Baker Memorial Fund.
