Clarence Bree

Services for Clarence Bree, 92, of rural Mason City, Ill., were conducted Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at Hurley Funeral Home in San Jose, Ill.

Mr. Bree died Wednesday, Aug. 2, at home. He was born March 15, 1908 in Hartsburg, Ill., to Charles Bree and Ida Knaak.

He was married to Vivian Ilene Jumper Feb. 13, 1935 at Salem Methodist Church in San Jose, Ill. Mr. Bree was a farmer.

He is survived by sons Bernard (Nancy) of San Jose, Ill. and Bill (Pat) Bree of Lincoln, Ill; daughter, Donna (David) Garczynski of Rogers; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, and 14 brothers and sisters.

Geraldine Greehling

Funeral services for Gerry Greehling, 88, of Litchfield and formerly of Buffalo, were Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the Emmauel Home in Litchfield. Rev. Paul D. Holle officiated at the service. Interment was at Kenneth Lutheran Cemetery, Vienna Township, Rock County.

Ms. Greehling died early Thursday morning, Aug. 3, at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

She was born on June 6, 1912, in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, the daughter of John and Emma Steinke Greehling.

Ms. Greehling was a former Dist. 877 school librarian for several years. She also enjoyed people, especially children.

She was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield.

She is survived by a brother, Gerold Greehling of Waupaca, Wis; two nephews, Clark and Neil Greehling; three nieces, Judy Anderson, Linda Kraus and Kafie Christensen; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister Gladys Severtson in 1995.

Raymond Midtvedt

A memorial service for Raymond Midtvedt, 61, of Corcoran was Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at the White Funeral Home.

Burial was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Midtvedt died Sunday, Aug. 6.

Survivors include his daughters Tracy and Michele Midtvedt; son, Raymond Jr.; also mother, Delores; brothers, Harold, Denny, Phillip and David.

Herbert Oestreich

Services for Herbert H. Oestreich, 101, of Montrose were Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Buffalo.

Pastor Robert J. Hellmann officiated. Music was by Elliot Epple, organist; and congregational singing.

Casket bearers were Mary Johnson, Wayne Estby, Jerry Knop, Teresa Schumm, Terry Walker and Shelly Casey Velde.

Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Oestreich died Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Delano Healthcare Center.

He was born Jan. 14, 1899 in Franklin Township, the son of August and Augusta (Knop) Oestreich.

He had the distinction of living on the family farm for 96 and 1/2 years, living three centuries and never left the state of Minnesota. He loved his land, farming and in his leisure time he loved to fish.

He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He could be best summed up as a good neighbor.

Mr. Oestreich was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Adolph; sister, Theresa Reider.

Survivors include his niece, Dorothy and John Tulkki of Delano; nephew, Willard and Vernita Oestreich of Delano and many grand nieces and nephews.

Geraldine Prevatt

Services for Geraldine Prevatt, of Maple Grove, were conducted Saturday, Aug. 12 at Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids. She was 75.

Mrs. Prevatt passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, and is preceded in death by her husband, J.B.

Survivors include brother-in-law Arloyne Miller of Maple Grove, Sandy and Allen Elianson of Crosslake; niece and her husband, Liza and Arthur Brakob of St. Louis Park; nephew, Mark Eliason of Sauk Rapids.

Interment was in Benton County Cemetery, Sauk Rapids.

Alvin Samuelson

Services for Alvin R. "Al" Samuelson, 89, of Elk River were Monday, Aug. 7, 2000 at the Central Lutheran Church in Elk River.

Rev. Richard Hofstad officiated and interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Congregational hymns were "In the Garden" and "He Keeps Me Singing." Taylor Neist and Jennifer Weaver played their violins and provided special music.

Mr. Samuelson died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000. He was born on Nov. 9, 1910, in Upsala, the son of Andrew and Hedvig Sholine Samuelson.

He was an employee of Honeywell for 33 years and retired in 1975. In addition, he was a skilled watchmaker and violinist.

Mr. Samuelson was a member of the Central Lutheran Church in Elk River. He was a former violin player of the "Spelmanslag" of the American Swedish Institute.

Mr. Samuelson is survived by daughters, Betty (James) Dillon of Elk River and Margo Weaver of Fairmont; a granddaughter, Jennifer Weaver of New York; grandsons, Sean, Scott and Michael of Elk River; a nephew and niece, Wayne Samuelson and Dolores Gilbertson, both of Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Samuelson was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Fredrickson Samuelson Dec. 27, 1998; his parents; brothers, Loren and Edmund; and by a sister, Lillian Boyd.

Marlene Taylor

Services for Marlene Hope Taylor, 64, of Walker, formerly of Osseo, were Thursday, July 6, 2000 at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Taylor died Saturday, July 1, at the Cass Lake Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1935 in Walker, to Lloyd and Alice Kennedy.

She married Joseph Taylor, who preceded her in death on July 1, 1998.

She lived Osseo for 30 years of her life.

Survivors include sons, Vernon Augustson of Eagan, Dale Augustson Waubay, S.D., Dennis Augustson of Kimball and Duane Augustson of Puerto Rico; daughter, Linda Halvorson of Elk River; six grandchildren; five sisters, Inez (Palmer) Emblom of LaPorte, Sharon (Rodger) Glawe of Walker, Norma (Jack) Butzow of Walker, Alice Kennedy of Boy River and Patricia (John) Edward of Blaine; brothers, Allen (LaVerne) Kennedy of Walker and James and Judy Kennedy of Walker.

Lois Zornig

Services for Lois Zornig, 82, of Maple Grove were Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove.

Mrs. Zornig was a retired social worker with Catholic Charities. She is preceded in death by husband, Walter; and brother, Jerry Hagen.

She is survived by daughter, Anita (Rob) Roy; son, Tom (Gina) Zornig; daughter-in-law, Fern (Dan) Warren; grandchildren, John, Mark, Jason, Adam and Tim; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Samantha; brother, Richard (Sally) Hagen; nieces, nephews, many loving friends and extended family.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Glenn Furtney Dixon

Services for Glenn Furtney Dixon, 79, of Rockford Township, were Monday, July 31, 2000 at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Dean W. Brown officiated and interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Casket bearers were David Dixon, Robert "Buddy" Dixon, Walter "Butch" Dixon, Robert Gilbert, Dave Matter and Joe Matter.

Mr. Dixon died Friday, July 28, 2000 at the Buffalo Hospital. He was born Aug. 7, 1920 in Rockford Township, the son of Thomas and Minnie Furtney Dixon. He was joined in marriage to Lorraine Matter May 22, 1943 in Delano. The couple had two daughters.

Mr. Dixon engaged in farming in Rockford Township for many years. He also gave 32 years of service (1968-2000) to the Wright County Parks Department as the parks maintenance foreman and as a park advisory board member. Mr. Dixon and his fellow workers planted acres of trees which are now being enjoyed by many.

He was a faithful member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church and was a trustee for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Wright County Historical Society and was currently serving as a board member. He was also a former long-time Rockford Township Supervisor. He loved flying and was a charter member of the Delta Aviation Flying Club of Buffalo. He enjoyed wood working and taking his gasoline engines to the Wright County Fair each year.

Mr. Dixon is survived by wife, Lorraine E. Dixon; daughters, Linda (Jerry) Flynn and Kathleen (Herman) Ernst, all of Buffalo; grandchildren, Carrie (Simon) Almaer of Plymouth, Kelly (Terry) Boyle and Corey Dixon Flynn, all of Buffalo; great-grandchildren, David Almaer and Luke and Laura Boyle; sister, Martha Gilbert of Buffalo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred Matter, Leonard (Eva) Matter, Clemens (Jean) Matter and Helen Matter, all of Delano; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by parents and brothers, Aaron, Dewey, John and Robert Dixon.

George Dochniak

George J. Dochniak, 83, of Minnetonka, formerly of Osseo and a St. Paul Eastsider in his youth, peacefully passed on in his sleep, Wednesday, July 26, 2000.

Survivors include sons James M. and David J.; daughter, Mary E. Kelley; grandson, Brandon L. Hintzman and beloved friend, Marilyn Swanson. In keeping with George's wishes, the family conducted a private memorial before cremation.

In George's words about living, "I've tried to be positive and to be kind, considerate, and gentle." He went loved. Contributions in his memory may be made to Radha Soami Society Beas, 4115 Gillespie St., Fayetteville, NC 28306.

Condolences gratefully accepted at PO Box 187, Osseo MN 55369.

Marian Geiger

Services for Marian Geiger, 85, of St. Therese Care Center, formerly of Minneapolis, were Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Church of St. Anne in Minneapolis. Interment was at St. Albert's Cemetery in Albertville.

Rev. Cyprian Marcieca officiated.

Mrs. Geiger is preceded in death by husbands, Andrew Geiger and Carl Becker; and son, Jerry Becker.

She was born to Theodore and Clara (Hagel) Hohs.

She is survived by daughter, Janet Leffler of Colorado; daughter-in-law, Sandra Becker of Edina; grandson, Jesse Leffler of Texas; granddaughters, Jolayne (Eric) Gutzait of Colorado and Kirstin Becker of Edina; and great-grandchildren, Jeanine and Evan Gutzait.

Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Gertrude Goodchild

Services for Gertrude M. Goodchild, 86, of Maple Grove, formerly of Arden Hills were Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 with Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 835 2nd Ave N.W., New Brighton.

Lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.

Survivors include son, James (Trish) Goodchild; grandson, Jamie Goodchild and wife, Shari; great-grandchildren, Cody and Brianna Goodchild; beloved brother, Bert (Edna); special nephew, Daniel Kuchinski; sister-in-law, Joyce Finck; other nieces and nephews.

Ellsworth Johnston

Services for Ellsworth Johnston, 68, of Minneapolis and Rockford were Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Hillside Memorium. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Johnston was a 36-year employee of Honeywell.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Johnston (Bill); father, Ellsworth Sr.

He was survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, Thomas, Jeffrey (Jayne); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother, Marjorie; brother, Robert Johnston; sister, Phyllis Bartlee; and many nieces and nephews.

Leo Leuer

Funeral services for Leo Leuer, 83, of Loretto were Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Loretto. Interment was at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Mr. Leuer died after a three year battle with amyloidosis.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine; sons, Loren (Doris), Lenny (Alice), Larry (Connie); daughters, LaVonne (Roy) Leroux, Laura (Tim) Tritch and Lois Jensen; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many loving relatives, friends, neighbors, and faithful pet, Mitzie.

Shirley Lieder

Services for Shirley Lieder, 71, of Crookston, were Friday, Aug. 4, 2000 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, with Rev. Bill Reck and Rev. Orlin Ness, officiating. Interment was at the Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford, Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000.

Mrs. Lieder died early Tuesday morning, July 31, 2000, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. She was born June 21, 1929, near Buffalo, Minnesota on the farm of her parents, Robert and H. Bertha (Mutterer) Bleck. She was baptized and confirmed at the Cross Lutheran Church at Rockford and graduated from Rockford High School. She attended the New Ulm Academy and moved to Minneapolis where she was employed at Northwestern Bank.

Mrs. Lieder was married to Bernard L. Lieder Nov. 16, 1952, at the Cross Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Crookston and Mrs. Lieder was employed by the First National Bank. She later spent several years working at Sundet's Toy and Hobby Shop. She retired from there in the early 1980's. At about that time she helped her husband win election to the Minnesota House of Representatives from Dist. 2A.

Throughout her years in Crookston She was a active and devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and belonged to Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA), serving as district treasurer for many years.

She became a fixture in the St. Paul's Sunday School program, both as superintendent and teacher for countless years. She also co-chaired the constitution and by-laws committee at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She had been a long time member of the League of Women Voters and had been with the Campfire Girls and a Bluebird leader when her daughters were growing up.

Mrs. Lieder is survived by her husband, Bernie; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Mark Dundas of Wells, Heidi and John Rahe of Rensselaer, Ind. and Jane and Ken Whitter of Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada; nine grandchildren, Christoph, Esther, Carolyn, Benjamin, John-Mark, and James Dundas, Micklin Rahe, and Brody and Devon Whitter; two sisters and brothers-in law, Marquerite and Clyde Henson of Buffalo, and Roberta and Ivar Lemmage of McAllen, Texas; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Doris and Bob Sinclair, and Lula Lieder, all of Rockford and Erna Lieder of Elk River; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
