Ann Long

A memorial service for Ann Ella Long, 67 of Osseo, was conducted Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Pastor Richard Scherber officiated.

Soloist for the service was Michael Blanchet and Lynette Scherber was the violinist.

Mrs. Long died Thursday, Oct. 12.

She was born on April 9, 1933 in Albertville, the daughter of Edward and Mary Paumen Poppler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother Kermit Poppler.

Survivors include her children Roger (Glenna) Long of Brooklyn Park, Stacey Long of Brooklyn Center, Shelley (Brian) DeRosier of Rogers, Sherry (Michael) Herrington of Pawleys Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ashley DeRosier, Summer, Savannah Herrington, Kelsey Shaddex, Jason Tycke and Kristina, Alichia and Matthew Long; sister, Lenore (Harold) Scherber of Rogers; brother, Jack (Peewee) Poppler of Ely and other relatives and friends.

Richard Weller

Services for Richard "Dick" Weller, 58, of Rockford, formerly of Belgrade, were Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Francis De Sales Cemetery, Belgrade. Pallberarers were Dick DeBettignies, Phil Lord, Carl Erikstrup, Don Jensen, Duane Swenson, David Plaisted, Rick Tschida, and Larry Venjohn.

Mr. Weller died suddenly while at work in St. Paul Wednesday, Oct. 4.

He was born to Charles and Martha (Vorderbruggen) Weller in Belgrade, Aug. 11, 1942. He was married to Carol M. Hanson.

He worked and retired from Ford Motor Company after 25 years of service. He co-owned and operated Belgrade Electric for 12 years. In 1998, he went to work for Grayor as a project manager.

He was a member of the Belgrade Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, and was the assistant chief when he retired.

He was a member of the Belgrade Lions Club for 13 years and also the Belgrade Commercial Club, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Loretto.

He enjoyed his grandchildren and family as well as hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He will be remembered as a person who lived life to the fullest.

Mr. Weller was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Martha Weller; son, Stephen Weller, and father-in-law, Clifford Hanson.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of 36 years; two daughters; Teri (Mike) Durbin; St. Cloud; Carmen (Mike) Christian, Richfield; daughter-in-law, Kathy Boettcher, Park Rapids; grandchildren, Johnathon and Stephen Weller, Morgan Durbin, Taylor, Emily, and Nicholas Christian; brother, Casimir (Dorothy) Weller, Belgrade; sisters, Evelyn (Jack) Evens, Milwaukee, Wis.; Anita (Robert) North, Phoenix, Az.; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Arthur Zachman

Services for Arthur L. Zachman, 84, of Rogers were Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Rogers.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Zachman died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Elk River. He was born April 29, 1916 in Rogers.

He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and Ushers Club of St. Martins.

Mr. Zachman was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, William and Shirley of Rogers; daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Ray (Mary Lou) Dahlheimer of Rogers; Mrs. Robert (Betty) Robideau of Osseo and Mrs. David (Marlene) Kroll of Ramsey; brothers and sister-in-law, Fr. Clarence OMI of Belleville, Ill., and Norbert and Verna of St. Michael; sisters, Sr. Cecilia OSB of Milwaukee, Wis., and Sr. Rosalia OSF of Milwaukee.

Virginia (Ginny) Arneson

A memorial service for Ginny Arneson will be Tuesday, Oct. 10. 2000, at 7:45 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hanover.

Mrs. Arneson and her husband, Glen, lived in Hanover from 1960 to 1974 when they returned to Roseau.

She is survived by husband, Glen; and daughters, Sheri Arneson of Long Prairie and Joni (Ron) Rahier of Brooklyn Park; three grandchildren; mother, Dorothy Carlson, and mother-in-law, Jennie Arneson, of Roseau; two brothers Duane Carlson (Barb) of Roseau, Allan Carlson (Linda) of Winona; and sister Patricia (Pete) Brawders of Horace, N.D. brothers and sisters-in-law, Milton (Army) Armeson of Moorhead, Otto (Debres) Arneson of Albany, Ore., and Elaine Turner (Arnie) of Niland, Calif.

Mrs. Arneson died at her home in Roseau Sept. 21.

Al Elsen

Services for Al Elsen, 74, were Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.

Mr. Elsen was born to John A. and Elizabeth (Becker) Elsen, Sr. Dec. 7, 1925, in Loretto.

He is a descendent of two of the oldest families in the city of Loretto. In fact, the town was going to be named Becker, but since there already was a Becker, Minn., the family chose the name of a town mentioned in the Catholic religion.

Mr. Elsen played baseball for the Loretto town team. He served as village councilman, then became mayor for 12 years. He was a Loretto volunteer fireman for 20 years and a charter member of the Loretto Lions. He worked as co-chair of the Lions breakfasts, Loretto Bloodmobile and he served on the Sarah-Pioneer Watershed Board.

He was a life-long member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. As a lad he was a mass server, and in his later years, served at funeral masses. He was a parish choir member for many years, while it was under the leadership of his father. He volunteered for countless church functions including working at Caring and Sharing Hands in Minneapolis. He was a member of the Catholic Aid Association for 56 years. He was honored by the Loretto Catholic Aid Council in 1997 for Outstanding Community Service.

Mr. Elsen served his country in Japan with the 720th Military Police assisting in the enforcement of the military law and regulation maintenance of order and control of traffic.

He enjoyed fishing and would best like to be remembered as a fishing councilor. He made many a friend happy by sharing with them the catch of the day

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Elizabeth Elsen; and his brother, Nicholas Elsen.

He is survived by two sisters M. Flavia S.S.N.D., Good Counsel, Mankato; and M. Honora, S.S.N.D., St. Paul; brother, John Jr. (Eileen); sister-in-law, Betty Elsen; 17 nieces and nephews, plus grand-nieces and nephews; may cousins and friends.

Florence Florek

Services for Florence Florek, 73, of Delano were Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 at St. Mary's of Czestochowa in Delano.

Rev. Frank Wampach officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tom O'Donnell, Dan Schmidt, Steve Rasset, Jim Prather, Melvin Schmidt, Ben Florek, Marvin Florek and Randy Florek.

Mrs. Florek died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 at her residence after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

She was born Aug. 7, 1927 to Arnold and Victoria (Lyrek) Schmidt in Montrose. She was married to Anthony Florek at St. Mary's of Czestochowa June 26, 1948.

She was a member of the Rosary Society and a church circle at St. Mary's.

Mrs. Florek was preceded in death by husband, Anthony, in 1987. She is survived by daughter, Mary (Joseph) Lynch of Watertown; sons, Richard of St. Michael, Dale (Shannon) of Maple Lake and David (Robin) of Hudson, Wis.; grandchildren, Amy and Allison Lynch and Benjamin and Emily Florek; brothers, John (Catherine) Schmidt and Frank (Marilyn) Schmidt; sisters, Marie (Jay) Rasset, Kate (Pete) O'Donnell, Lorraine (Russell) Prather and many nieces and nephews.

Beata Johnson

Services for Beata I. (Betty) Johnson, 74, of Albertville, formerly of Duluth, were Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at the Church of St. Albert in Albertville.

Fr. Ronald Harrer, OMI was the celebrant.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, Wis., Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. Rev. Paul Larson officiated with a graveside service.

Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Buffalo Hospital. She was born June 14, 1926 in Frankfort Township, Wright County, the daughter of Michael and Appolonia Daleiden Schmitz.

She was a longtime manager of Gateway Towers in Duluth. She was also a faithful member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Duluth.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husbands, John Detloff and Mal Johnson; parents; brothers and a sister, Henry Schmitz, Wilhelmina Kruzel and Walter (Wally) Schmitz.

Survivors include daughter Rose Detloff of Jackson, Mo.; granddaughter, Stacy Creech of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; sister, Mary Ann Barthel of Albertville; sister-in-law, Rose Schmitz of Long Lake; special friends, Hilda Bertil and Mary; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patricia Logan

Services for Patricia A. Logan (nee Laurent), 45, of Rogers were Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Anne, 200 Hamel Rd., Hamel.

Burial was in St. Anne's Cemetery.

Preceded in death by mother, Trudy Laurent; sister, Pam Laurent; infant son, Benjamin; and infant Baby Logan.

Survived by loving husband, Thomas; daughters, Amy (Kevin) Cowan, Renee, Lisa and Sara (Todd) Cruse; sons Thomas Jr. and Matthew; grandchildren, Nadia Cruse and Benjamin Michael Cowan; father, Harold Laurent; sisters, Diane Morris, Barb (Tim) Schwietering, Donna (Tom) Sicheneder; brothers, Dan Laurent and Dave (Kelly) Laurent; many loving nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorials preferred to the family.

Thomas Thisius

Services for Thomas Thisius, 61, formerly of Corcoran, were Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at the First United Methodist Church of Lake Crystal, Lake Crystal. Interment was at Garden City Cemetery.

Mr. Thisius died peacefully at his home in Maple Grove after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

He was employed for 29 years with the telephone company as a telephone installer. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting. He was a long-standing member of the Corcoran Lions club, the Hamel Athletic Association and played with the Hamel Hawks "Over the Hill" softball team.

Thisius is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Ethel M. (Gilman) Thisius; daughters, Laurie J. Robinson and husband Brent, Christine M. Thisius, Gina M. Thisius; son, Todd T. Thisius; granddaughter, Maya Robinson; sisters, Wendy Stenzel, Carol Chirpich and husband Ken; brothers, William Thisius and wife Clara, Jack Thisius and wife Jean; nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Wilbert M. & Agnes M. (Kumlien) Thisius.

Elva O. Quinn

Services for Elva O. Quinn, 88, of Brooklyn Park were Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.

Quinn was born Sept. 30, 1911, in Minnesota.

She is survived by two sons, David (Mary Ann) and Douglas (Marilyn); three brothers, Stanley (Erliss) Helgeson, Kenneth (Berniece) Helgeson and Gordon (Kitty) Helgeson; one sister, Julia Ann (Melvin) Janzen; seven grandchildren, Michael (Gloria), Diane Casey, Deborah (Brian) Hansen, Kendra, Nicolai, Christopher and Kelsey; two step-grandchildren, Travis and David Sennes; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Casey and Matthew Hansen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, Helge and Julia Helgeson; her brothers, Harvey and Marvin Helgeson; and sisters, Mildred Foster, Bernice Helgeson, Clarice Kiel, Laura Bumgarner and Vivian Helgeson.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Gertrudis M. Schendel

Services for Gertrudis M. Schendel, 85 of St. Michael were Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Mrs. Schendel died Monday, Oct. 2, at the Park Crest Baptist Care Center in Minneapolis.

She was born Sept. 1, 1915, in St. Michael to John and Mary Marx Goeb.

On Aug. 31, 1946, Gertrudis Goeb and Loren Schendel were united in marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church. They had three children.

She was a longtime member of the St. Michael American Legion Auxiliary #567.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Elizabeth Glover, six brothers and seven sisters.

She is survived by her children Mary (Jim) Glover of Brooklyn Park, Kathleen (Dale) McNellis of Blaine and David (Joan) Schendel of St. Stephen; grandchildren, Mark (Gale) Glover, Julie (Paul) Banker, Jennifer, Sarah, Ann and Ellen Glover, Loren and Thomas McNellis, Rebecca, Nicholas and Adam Schendel; great-grandchildren, Erica Glover and Hayley Banker; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lois (Kenneth) Allen, Vinson (Peggy) Schendel, Jean, Kathy, Betty, Myrt and Phyllis Schendel, Sophie, Wallie, Anita and Malita Goeb; other relatives and friends.

Parker James Jenson

Services for Parker James Jenson, the infant son of Travis and Loralee Jenson of Montrose, were Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Pastor Dean W. Brown officiated and interment was in the Cassel Cemetery in rural Montrose.

Parker was born and died Sept. 20, 2000. In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Jerry and Heather Jenson of Cokato, Kathy and Scott Lecy of Scottsboro, Ala., and Joe "Butch" and Joann Czanstkowski of Delano; great-grandparents, Wilma Jenson of Maple Plain, Jan Journey of Kansas, Ben Kelley of Plymouth, Louise and Roger Lindholm of Montana and Mary Kuchenmeister of Buffalo; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Parker was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Marvin Jenson, Francis Kuchenmeister and Albert and Gertrude Czanstkowski, Sr.

Mariam Judkins

Services for Mariam L. Judkins, 82, of Osseo, formerly of Coon Rapids., were Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Osseo Church of the Nazarene, 224 First Ave. N.W., Osseo.

Burial was in Weaver Lake Cemetery, Maple Grove.

Mrs. Judkins was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Survivors include her by son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Ann Judkins; daughters and son-in-law Judith Brown, Wileen (Willie) and Ronald Vandenoever and Chris Judkins; sisters, Dorothy Kjell and Bertha Durey; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

If so desired, memorials may be given to the Mariam L. Judkins Memorial Fund.
