Leo P. Psyck

Services for Leo P. Psyck, 87, of Spring Park, formerly of Mound, were Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Rev. Jay Klein officiated and casket bearers were Wilfred Rieland, John Sandquist, David Sandquist, Greg Gable, Brian Gable and Ron Dusa.

Mr. Psyck died Wednesday, Mach 21, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. He was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Watertown Township to Peter J. and Rose (Janecula) Psyck. He was baptized Oct. 9, 1913, and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. He reaffirmed his faith March 21, 1945, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

He married Irma M. Lohrke June 12, 1943, at the home of Irma's parents by her brother, Rev. Waldemar Lohrke.

Mr. Psyck was a trustee and voting member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He and Mrs. Psyck farmed for 24 years and then moved to Mound in 1967. He worked for 12 years for Advance Machines after farming. He loved to fish and to fix anything.

He was preceded in death by parents, Peter and Rose Psyck; sister, Dorothy Dusa; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Elsa Lohrke; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Waldemar Lohrke, Royal Lohrke, Sylvia and Conrad Marth and son-in-law, Les Petersen.

Mr. Psyck is survived by wife, Irma; daughter, Joanne Petersen of Mounds View; son and daughter-in-law, James and Karen Psyck of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Peter Psyck, Melissa and Roger Campbell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Dusa of Delano, Wilma Lohrke of Spring Park, Henrietta Lohrke of Delano and Virginia and Wilfred Rieland of St. Bonifacius; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Ester W. Scheid

Services for Ester W. Scheid, 95, of Dayton and formerly of St. Cloud, are at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Cloud.

She was born Feb. 16, 1906, to Albert and Marie (Koehn) Rodenwald and was later married on Nov. 24, 1924 to Herbert J. Scheid. She died March 28, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Scheid is survived by two daughters, Evelyn E. Logeals and Doris M. Wood; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Alma Heinen.

Funeral arrangements are at 1-888-252-2522.

Carl Tonn

Services for Carl Tonn, 86, of Osseo, were Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 714 Broadway, Osseo.

Burial was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Tonn served on the Osseo School Board from 1948 to 1966, and the Osseo Dist. 279 Carl Tonn football field was named in his honor.

Mr. Tonn was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Tonn.

Survivors include sons, Ray (Jan) Larson of McGregor, James (Baiying) Tonn of Elk River, and Butch (Pat) Tonn of Maple Grove; daughter, Georgie (Gerald) Kiffmeyer of Osseo; brother, George (Lorna) Tonn of Osseo; sister, Melitta Tonn of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Violet Westlund

Services for Violet "Vi" Westlund, 69, of Albertville were Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center.

Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mrs. Westlund was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Harding, Minn.

She is survived by husband, Bernard; sons, Byron (Pam) of Andover and Rob (Nikki) of Brooklyn Park; daughters, Lea (Maurice) Eull of Buffalo and Ramona (Chris) Elwood of Crystal; and sisters, Carol Nelson of Wilmar and Helen Burchett of Colorado.

She is preceded in death by parents, Michael and Anna Bieganek; grandson, Nathan Westlund; and brothers, Jerry, Lawrence and Norman Bieganek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Marie Berg

Services for Marie P. Berg, 85, of St. Therese Nursing Home, formerly of Osseo, were Monday, March 26, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Berg died Thursday, March 22. She was born Dec. 17, 1915 in Osseo.

She was preceded in death by her husband William.

Survivors include daughters, Evelyn Berg of Coon Rapids and Elaine Berg of Robbinsdale; brother George (Marie) Haslach; sister, Marvel Sturman, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mark Christiansen

Services for Mark D. Christiansen, 42, of Brooklyn Park were Friday, March 23, 2001, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center.

Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

He was a member of Teamster Union 1644 and Hunter's Club.

Mr. Christiansen was born March 21, 1959 in Minneapolis.

Survivors include his son, Lee and Maureen Giles of Brooklyn Park; parents, Duane and Jenny Christiansen of Rogers; sisters, Cindy Christiansen of Otsego, Cathy Quistorf of Washington and Diane Christiansen of Brooklyn Center; maternal grandmother, Marie Johnson of New Brighton; two nieces, one nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials may be given to the Mark D. Christiansen Memorial Fund.

Kenneth Harff

Services for Kenneth C. Harff, 82, of New Hope were Monday, March 19, 2001, at Salem Lutheran Church, Loretto.

Burial was in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Harff died Friday, March 16.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Loretto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Ella; son, Roger; sister, Winifred Loeffler and an infant daughter.

Survivors include wife, Erna; children and spouses, Ronald (Terre) of Watkins, Linda (Joe) Lewis of Rogers, Shirley (Dale) Purdy of Maple Grove and Carol (Michael) Osada of Brooklyn Park; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; and brothers, Gerhard (Janice) of Osseo.

Shannon Haugen

Shannon Patrick Haugen, 28, of Osseo died Thursday, March 22.

He was born June 29, 1972.

Survivors include his mother Marcia Haugen of Osseo and Michael Haugen of Burnsville and countless family members and friends.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be conducted at a later date.

Myrtle Klein

Services for Myrtle A. (Kiebel) Klein, 81, were Monday, March 19, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church of Monticello.

Concelebrating the Mass was Rev. Tim Rudolphi, Rev. Eugene Tiffany, and Rev. Peter Christensen. Grandsons served as casketbearers, David Ennis, Brad Goenner, Greg Goenner, John Muehlbauer, Martin Kiebel and Freddie Stock.

Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Klein was born July 26, 1919, in St. Michael to Martin and Mary (Fyten) Robeck. She grew up in the St. Michael area, but lived in Monticello nearly all of her adult life. On July 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to William Kiebel in Minneapolis. Mr. Kiebel preceded her in death in 1964.

On Jan. 6, 1969, she married Edward Klein, and he preceded her in death in January 2001. During her life, Mrs. Klein worked at the Hart Hospital of Monticello, was an active and lifelong member of St. Henry's Catholic Church of Monticello, where she taught religion classes for several years, and was involved in the Ladies Guild.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Dale) Goenner of Clear Lake, Cecile (Larry) Muehlbauer of Lake Shore, William R. Kiebel of Big Lake, Eileen Kiebel of Big Lake, John (Jane) Kiebel of New Hope, Mary (Gerry) Stock of Paynesville; 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother, Lyle Robeck of St. Michael; sisters, Florence Adams of Ramsey, Leona Olson of Red Wing, Rena Kopezeski of Crystal, Bernice Robeck of New Hope and Gladys Schlosser of Loretto; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, William Kiebel and Edward Klein; daughter, Kathleen Rowan; great-granddaughter Brynn Persike; sister, Clara Dolbec; and two brothers, Ernest Robeck and Marvin Robeck.

Earl G. Strassburg

Services for Earl G. Strassburg, 71, of Maple Plain, were Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Long Lake.

Pastor Roger Ezell officiated. Pallbearers were Boyd Strassburg, Jentz Strassburg, Robert Dixon, Jr., Mark Freer, Nickolas Mazanyi and Glen Fry.

Mr. Strassburg died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born to Julius and Alma (Larson) Strassburg in Edgerton, Minn. He was married to Carol June Alger June 13, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Delano and the couple enjoyed more than 47 years of marriage. They lived in Long Lake before moving to Maple Plain where they were currently residing.

Mr. Strassburg worked as a surveyor for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 36 and a half years. He was a member of the Minnetonka Clippers Choir and the Calvin Presbyterian Church choir for more than 20 years. He was active in numerous community organizations including the Delano Senior Center, where he was a volunteer driver and member of the senior citizens choir and the Story Tellers group. He loved to read and do crossword puzzles. Travel was also a passion for him. He served in the U.S. Army as well as the Army National Guard.

He is survived by wife, Carol; daughters, Pamela Strassburg and Paula (Mark) Freer; son, Boyd Strassburg and special friend, Tracy Pharr; grandson, Jentz Strassburg; sisters, Betty (Lloyd) Lund and Joy (Jack) Gibson and sister-in-law, Virginia Strassburg.

He was preceded in death by parents, Julius and Alma Strassburg; and brothers, Elmer, Floyd, Robert and Norval.

Patrick Berthiaume

Services for Patrick Walter Berthiaume, 34, of Rockford were Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

Rev. Dennis K. Strong officiated and interment with military rites followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Russell Pavel, Lynn Marschel, Desmond Heeiret, David Berthiaume, Marvin Miller and Aaron Rasset will serve as the casket bearers.

Mr. Berthiaume died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at his residence.

He was born in Watertown Oct. 13, 1966, the son of Michael R. and Linda L. Rose Berthiaume.

He was baptized Nov. 6, 1966, by Rev. W.P. Haar at his godparent's home in rural Buffalo. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield by Rev. Robert Kant May 17, 1981. His confirmation memory verse was Matthew 6:33.

He graduated from Rockford High School in 1985 and was on Rockford's wrestling and baseball teams.

Mr. Berthiaume honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Gulf War. He presently was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was currently the Director of Public Works for the city of Greenfield.

He was a lifetime member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

He enjoyed fishing and belonged to the "Happy Hookers" Bass Club.

He is survived by daughters, Alyssa Ann Berthiaume of Rockford and Kelli Anne Mautner of West Allis, Wis.; parents, Michael and Linda Berthiaume of Rockford; sisters, Shannon (Russell) Pavel of Lesterville, S.D. and Shawna Berthiaume of Rockford; nephew, Brandon Pavel; paternal grandmother, Leone Berthiaume of Waverly; godparents Beverly and Darold Marschel of Buffalo; loving friends Kathy Heyman and Jamie; aunts, uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jason Michael Berthiaume April 10, 1973; maternal grandparents, Walter and Phyllis Rose; and by his paternal grandfather, Raymond "Shorty" Berthiaume.

Ernestine T. Fortwengler

Services for Ernestine T. Fortwengler, 83, of Watertown, were Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Fr. Frank Wampach officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were grandchildren, Randolph Johnson, Rodney Johnson, Edward Fortwengler, Todd Fortwengler, Dennis Scherber, Kristopher Brose, Jesse Fortwengler, Mark Scherber and Jason Menth.

Mrs. Fortwengler died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born July 10, 1917, in LaMoure County, N.D., the daughter of John P. and Katherine (Schrodel) Orban. She was baptized in the Catholic Church in Verona, N.D., and confirmed Oct. 7, 1934, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany.

She married Arthur H. Fortwengler June 8, 1938, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener and loved to work in her flower beds. She loved to do canning and was an avid reader. Her church and family were a very important part of her life. She worked for Tonka Toys and United Mailing. She had a stroke in 1993 and moved to Elim Home in Watertown.

She was preceded in death by husband, Arthur; son, Gene Fortwengler March 12, 1996; grandson, Ryan Johnson; parents, John and Katherine Orban and brothers, John and William Orban.

She is survived by children and spouses, Joan and Odean Kelsay of Blaine, Marlene and Art Scherber of Hamel, James and Marian Fortwengler of Ramsey, Rosalinda Menth of Waconia, Jeanne and Keith Brose of Howard Lake and Rebecca and John Henschen of Mayer; daughter-in-law, Carol Fortwengler of Watertown; grandchildren, Randolph Johnson, Rebecca Coenen, Rodney Johnson, Renee Johnson, Edward Fortwengler, Lisa Wagner, Pamela Coyle, Lynn Coyle, Todd Fortwengler, Mark Scherber, Dennis Scherber, Cynthia Wunderlich, Jesse Fortwengler, Jacquelyn Menth, Jennifer Menth, Jill Menth, Jason Menth, Tanya Brose, Kristopher Brose and Kelly Brose; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Marguerite and George Limbrecht of Florida and Marie Burger of Florida; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Susan Orban of Washington, Harold and Alice Fortwengler of New Ulm, Joseph and Anna Fortwengler of New Ulm and Florenda (Sweetie) Richter of New Ulm; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Kenneth Harff
