Gwen A. Coyne

Services for Gwen A. Coyne, 65, were Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson, Ariz.

Mrs. Coyne died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001. She was born Oct. 7, 1935 in Svea, Minn., the daughter of LeRoy and Margaret Johnson. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

She is survived by husband of 42 years, Tim; children, Tim (Theresa) of Tucson and Katie McCamic (Justin Chilton) of Tucson; grandchildren, Nicole, Timmy and Zachary; brothers and sisters, Lowell (Maxine) of Delano, Robert of Svea and Susan (Dale) of Svea; aunts; uncle; nephews; nieces; cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by mother; father; mother-in-law; father-in-law; sister-in-law; son-in-law; great-nephew and many aunts and uncles.

Donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Kristin Dilbert

Services for Kristin Nicole Dilbert, 19, of Maple Grove, a 2000 graduate of Maple Grove High School, were Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 6 p.m. at Maple Grove Evangelical Free Church, 8585 Rice Lake Rd.

Kristin died Saturday, Feb. 24, as the result of a tragic car accident in Minnetrista.

Kristin was completing her second semester at Crown College in St. Bonifacius.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Jo (Becky) Dilbert Sept. 14, 1998.

Survivors include her father, Jeff (Barb) Dilbert of Champlin; sister, Nicolette Dilbert and Lindsay Goldsmith; brother, Landon Goldsmith; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Alice Dilbert of New Port Richey, Fla.; maternal grandparents, Duane B. and Rhonda Arntson of Maple Grove; maternal great-grandmother, Esther Arntson of New Hope; many other friends and relatives who loved her dearly. "We rejoice with you Kristin, because we know you are safe in the arms of your Savior, Jesus!"

Richard A. Gutknecht

Services for Richard A. Gutknecht, 67, of rural Buffalo were Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

Rev. Dennis K. Strong officiated and interment followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

David Farstad was the organist for the funeral service. "On Eagles' Wings," "Abide with Me" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" were sung as congregational hymns.

Terry Schleif, Daryl Schleif, Dave Beise, Mark Tiemann, Paul Duff and David Duff served as honorary casket bearers.

Allen Gutknecht, Gary Gutknecht, Mark Gutknecht, Dan Gutknecht, Ken Schleif and Doug Beise served as the casket bearers.

Mr. Gutknecht died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at the Buffalo Hospital. He was born in Frankfort Township May 12, 1933 the son of Carl H. and Eleanora Pautzke Gutknecht.

He was born again to be God's own child by the "washing of water in the Word" when he was baptized at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake, July 16, 1933. He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by Rev. W.P. Haar at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake Aug. 10, 1947. He was given James 4:8 as his confirmation memory verse.

He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1951.

On Aug. 10, 1957, Mr. Gutknecht and Dorothy Harff were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwood. God blessed their marriage with a daughter, Lisa, and with a son, Steven.

Mr. Gutknecht engaged in dairy farming in Frankfort Township for many years and thoroughly loved farm life. He was an active member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield and formerly served his church as an elder and as an usher. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include loving wife, Dorothy H. Gutknecht; a daughter, Lisa (Scott) Anderson; and a son, Steve (Tracy) Gutknecht, all of Buffalo; grandchildren, Kellen, Katelyn and Mitchell Anderson, Brittany, Emma and Mallory Gutknecht; brothers and a sister, Arthur (Doris) Gutknecht, Walter (Darleen) Gutknecht, Carl (Roberta) Gutknecht Jr., Elroy (Florence) Gutknecht, all of Buffalo, and Lillian (Edwin) Duff of Sun City West, Ariz.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Caroline (Willmar) Bechtold of New Hope, Marlys (Howard) Schleif of Rogers, Kathleen (Ronald) Tiemann of Buffalo, Renata (Jack) Russek of Delano and Rita (Duane) Beise of Loretto; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, his parents, and by a brother, Elmer.

Jacqueline Keough

Services for Jacqueline Ann (nee Biesemeier), 68, of Maple Grove were Friday, March 2, at 1 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 2211 Clinton Ave A., Minneapolis.

Burial was in Onamia, In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Stephen's Catholic Church

Survivors include daughters, Jody Shamp and Jill (Richard) Blumenstein; sons, James and Jamie Kelly Keough; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Patrick and David Biesemeier, sisters-in-law, Catherine and Virginia Keough and best friend, Flora Hall.

Carol Lenz

Services for Carol Lenz, 59, of Watertown were Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Rev. Paul Krentz and Rev. Jeff Harter officiated and interment was in the Watertown Public Cemetery. The casket bearers were Lenz' grandchildren.

Mrs. Lenz died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at her home in Watertown. She was born July 19, 1941 in New Prague, the daughter of Leonard and Evelyn (Dobes) Minge. She was baptized Aug. 14, 1941 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jordan and confirmed June 12, 1955 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

She married William F. Lenz June 11, 1960 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a generous giver and was loved by all. Flowers were given by her to many people she visited. She was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and she worked in the deli department at Don's Food Pride store in Watertown. She was a graduate of Delano High School and loved to listen to Old Tyme music and dance to it.

Mrs. Lenz is survived by husband, Bill; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Gary Schaust of Delano, Lisa and Gene Gabrelcik of Montrose and Denise and Jeff Berg of Montrose; grandchildren, April, Brooke and Dustin Schaust, Bobbi, Jonathan and Amanda Gabrelcik and Sadie and Gunnar Berg; mother, Evelyn Minge of Watertown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace and Elmer Jabs of Lydia, Darlene and Erv Wachman of Delano, Bea and Roger Frederick of Vinning and Sonja and Louis Gunkel of Vinning; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Brenda Minge of Frazee; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lester and Margie Lenz of Watertown, Ardis and Merlin Burandt of Waconia, Marion and Keith Saunders of Eau Claire, Wis. and Loren Lenz of Watertown; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by infant daughter; father, Leonard Minge and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Dora Lenz.

Angela Rosenquist

Services for Angela Marie, 6 weeks old daughter of Craig and Ann of Maple Grove, were Friday, March 2, 2001 at 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7180 Hemlock Ln., Maple Grove.

Burial was in Rush Creek Cemetery, Maple Grove.

Survivors include her parents; brother, Joseph; grandparents, Roger and Doris Rosenquist, Don and Dorothy Ruhr; many other relatives and friends.

Albin A. Sjolin

Services for Albin A. Sjolin, 81, of Mound, formerly of Delano, were Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Iten Funeral Chapel in Delano.

Pastor Greg Loomis of the Mound Free Church officiated and interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Sigafoos, Pat Sjolin, Ed Sjolin, Gordy Meagher, Tony Meagher, Justin Meagher and Jim Sjolin.

Mr. Sjolin died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. He was born July 25, 1919 in Watertown to Emil and Marian (Heck) Sjolin. He was married to Alice Meagher and served his country during World War II.

Mr. Sjolin is survived by sons, Ernest (Susan) of Milaca, James of Mound and Robert of Mound; grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Heather, Jennifer and Rachel and brother, Ronald (Kay) of Akeley, Minn.

He was preceded in death by wife, Alice; two brothers and three sisters.

Ronald G. "Bomber" Racine

Services for Ronald G. "Bomber" Racine, 25, of Champlin, were Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Washburn McReavy Seaman Chapel in Coon Rapids. A private interment will be at a later date.

He is survived by his parents, Michael and Doris Racine of Champlin; grandmother Doris Willis; sister Rhonda (Joe) Hong; brothers Rodney (Nicole) Racine and Matt (Sue) Steffens; nephews Keith Steffens and Tyler Hong; niece Mikayla Hong; many relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his sister Rita Racine; grandparents Doris and Russell Taft and Earl Willis.

Thomas Barber

A far away crash had hometown impacts when Champlin resident Sgt. Thomas E. Barber died in the collision of two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters Monday, Feb. 12.

Barber was a 27-year-old Anoka High School graduate who enlisted in the Army one year after his 1991 graduation. He married his hometown sweetheart, Heather Pinske, after serving overseas. They have two sons.

His positions in the Army included mechanic, master driver, equal opportunity representative, and a hazardous communications representative.

Barber's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Achievement Medal (five awards), the National Defense Service Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Joining the Army had always been a dream of Barber's, according to family members. He was stationed in Germany, North Carolina, Virginia, Bosnia and Hawaii.

His family said he wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but became a mechanic with the 25th Infantry Division due to his eyesight.

At the time of the collision on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Barber was serving as crew chief, overseeing the operations of the helicopter during a night exercise. There was light rain and the pilots were wearing night-vision goggles.

The division was conducting an infantry brigade combat team field exercise in the U.S. Military Training Area in the northern part of Oahu. More than 3,500 soldiers were participating in the exercise.

Four soldiers were rushed to the hospital in stable condition and seven had minor injuries.

All six who were killed were in one of the helicopters, one of which was Robert Olson, 35, of Big Falls, Mn.

One survivor told the Associated Press that a Humvee vehicle in a sling beneath one of the aircraft hit the rotor of the other. The military is investigating the crash.

The 25th Infantry Division and U.S. Army, Hawaii had two memorial services Friday, Feb. 16, for the six soldiers killed in a helicopter crash at the U.S. Army Kahuku Training Area Monday.

The military services were at Schofield Barracks' Main Post Chapel.

Local services for Barber, 27, were Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Anoka. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

He was born in Minneapolis April 30, 1973, to Jerry A. and Patricia Anne (Schultz) Barber. He married Heather Ann Pinske and they had two sons. He served in the 25th Infantry Division of the Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry.

He is survived by his wife, Heather; sons Cody and Hunter; mother Patricia Anne Barber of Oregon; sisters Katie and Sara Barber, both of Coon Rapids; mother-in-law Susan Pinske of New London; uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Corrine F. "Corky" Carlson

Services for Corrine F. "Corky" Carlson, age 79, of Monticello, formerly of Brainerd and Minneapolis, were Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Washburn-McReavy Swanson Chapel in Minneapolis. Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Corky enjoyed her last years among many loving friends at Mississippi Shores Apartments (Presbyterian Homes) in Monticello. Her children will be forever grateful for the support and friendship of all her neighbors and especially for Gary and Marge Stolp, the building managers who made her feel so special.

Preceded in death by loving husband, Eugene; and daughter Karen Quinehan.

Survived by children, Sandra (Robert) Beauchaine of Maple Grove, Rita (John Hopping) of Champlin, David (Barbara) Carlson of Osakis, and Daniel (Barbara) Carlson of Champlin; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Walijarvi Pettit of Scottsdale, Ariz.

James Druk

An open house to honor James Druk, 79, of Maple Grove was conducted Sunday, Feb. 25, and his home in Maple Grove.

Mr. Druk, founder of J.P. Furniture Upholstery, died Thursday, Feb. 22, in Maple Grove. He was born July 18, 1921 in Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stefan and Anna, and brother, John.

Survivors include his wife Winifred; sons and daughter-in-law James R. and Thomas (Lynn); daughter and son-in-law, Penny (Robert) Franklin; brothers, Mike (Elaine), Nick, Paul, Pete and Steve; sister-in-law Marie Druk; grandchildren, Pam, Tracy, Becky, Laura and T.J.; and great grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua.

Memorials may be given to the James Druk Memorial Fund.

Merlyn Greenwood

Services for Merlyn S. Greenwood, 84, of Osseo, were Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park.

Officiating was Rev. Curtis Lybarger. Pallbearers were Keith Beecroft, Joe Kline, Ken Kline, Steve Schugg, Neil Twomey Jr., Neil Twomey Sr.

Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Mr. Greenwood died Friday, Feb. 23, at the Anoka Good Samaritan Center.

He was born March 1, 1916, in Greenbush Township, Mille Lacs County, son of Peter S. and Lexina V. (Dagenis) Greenwood.

He married Marian L. Kline. Mr. Greenwood was a truck driver for Connely Cartridge in Minneapolis.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Kenneth Beecroft; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-children, Joe Kline and wife Carlyn, Fran Kline and wife Judy, Linda Schugg and husband Steve, Sue Twomey and husband Neil; brother, Anthony Greenwood; and sister, Darline Miller.
