Ardell Schlegel

Services for Ardell Schlegel, 67, of Champlin, formerly of Osseo, will be Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Schlegel died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in Coon Rapids. She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Dayton Township.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Ray; children, Cathy Wofdyla, Mike Schlegel, Mark Schlegel, Leann Osada and Beth Jameson; brothers, Mike Payette and Steve Payette; sisters, Joyce Bovee and Rose Myers; and 11 grandchildren.

Wilma Wargin

A memorial service for Wilma (Bucka) Wargin, 90, of Brooklyn Park was Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 Second St. N.E. in Osseo.

She was preceded in death by husband, Fredrick; and sons, James and Fred.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Wegner; daughter-in-law, Lee; grandchildren, Barry (Julie), Gregory, Heidi, Pam (Chuck), and Barb (Rod); great-grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Jennifer, Allison Molly, Monika and Katrina.

Duane Walberg

Services for Duane Ronald Walberg, 59, of Rogers, formerly of Champlin were Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hope.

Mr. Walberg died in his home Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, of prostate cancer. He was born March 7, 1942, in Minneapolis to Lloyd and Alma Walberg. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. On March 3, 1961, he married Beverly Denowh and during their 40 years of marriage they were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Walberg worked at Emerich Bakery, city of New Hope and for the past 25 years he was an agent for Farmers Insurance Group. He enjoyed weekends at his cabin in McGregor, golfing, snowmobiling, transplanting trees, vintage cars, and most of all his seven grandkids.

Mr. Walberg is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Roxanne (Chuck) Muehlbauer of St. Cloud, and Michelle (Erik) Eue of Champlin; sons, Daniel (Heather) Walberg of Elk River, and Corey (Jennifer) Walberg of Champlin; grandchildren, Marshall and Matthew Muehlbauer, Payton Eue, Dylan and Jacob Walberg, and Miranda and Alyssa Walberg; sisters, Audrey (Gerald) Simon of McGregor, and Arlene (Ronald) Stromberg of Fridley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alma Walberg.

Leona Wick

Services for Leona Mae Wick, 80, of Brooklyn Center, formerly of Maple Grove were Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 59th and Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Center.

Burial was in Mound Cemetery.

Mrs. Wick died Monday, Oct. 15, in Brooklyn Center. She was born Jan. 24, 1921 in Burt, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by husband Louis; son, Doug and daughter, Barbara Brickman.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (Dennis) Tresselt; daughter-in-law, Darlene (Lyle) Anderson; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, George, Clifford, Harold Heerdt and sister Florence Hedtke.

Thomas A. Winkler

Services for Thomas A. Winkler, 48, of Champlin, were 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at the Assembly of God Church in Maple Grove. Interment was in Rush Creek Cemetery.

He died suddenly Oct. 16 and is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Joann and Jamie; sisters, Suzanne and Rosemary; and brothers, Jim and Michael.

Kapala-Glodek Gearhart Chapel handled arrangements.

Douglas Buhl

Services for Douglas H. Buhl, 85, of St. Michael, were Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Highland Goodman officiated and interment with military rites followed at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Buhl died Friday, Sept. 28, at the Park View Care Center.

He was born Aug. 31, 1916, the son of Emil H. and Gladys E. Hartmann Buhl.

He honorably served his country in WWII in the United States Army.

On Jan. 31, 1947, Mr. Buhl and Dorothy E. Johnson were joined in holy marriage in Fergus Falls.

Mr. Buhl was employed for many years by the U.S. Forest Service.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Buhl of St. Michael; a sister, Margie (Carl) Schroeder of Southern Pines, N.C.; step-father, Russell Beeson of Battle Lake; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Selyvia Johnson of Maine, Minn. and Ruby and Loren True of Coon Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Buhl is preceded in death by his parents, Emil H. and Gladys Buhl; a sister, Geraldine Loshbough; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Celia Johnson; and brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Bernard Loshbough, Vernon Johnson, Lyman Johnson and Loane Johnson.

Harold Keith Dietz

Services for Harold Keith Dietz, 74, of Champlin were Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Interment was in Washington Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind.

Mr. Dietz died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001. He was born June 1, 1927, in Indianapolis.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Terri Shafer-Dietz of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Johnathan W. Shafer of Lawton, Okla.; in-laws, Bernice Lenneman of Buffalo, Malita Goeb of St. Michael, Eldon and Bernice Kasper of St. Michael, Andrew (dec) and Stella Kasper of St. Michael, Ammon and Mary Vetsch of St. Michael, Roger and Arlene VanRisseghem of Crystal, Ralph and Janice Kasper of St. Michael, David and RoseAnn Gindele of St. Michael, and Gerald and Corrine Wachowia of Brooklyn Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mayme Dietz, and siblings, Winfred and Pattye.

Mr. Dietz was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church.

If so desired memorials may be given to the Harold K. Dietz Memorial fund.

Gloria Donley

Services for Gloria Annette Donley, 65, of Maple Grove were Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Washburn-McReavy Columbia Heights Chapel.

Mrs. Donley died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2001, after a battle with Myleodysplastic Syndrome. She was born July 8, 1936, in Bear River. She was a graduate of Columbia Heights High School. On July 6, 1957, she married Richard Donley of Minneapolis. They began their life together in New Brighton and went on to live in a number of states before residing in Minnetonka. They have spent the last seven years living in Maple Grove. Her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, many friends and work associates she has touched during her life will deeply miss her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Cool, and her father, Adellan Cool.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; sons Wayde (Shelley) Donley of Ham Lake, and Scott (Melanie) Donley of Burnsville; daughter Wendy (Jim) Stephani of Owatonna; seven grandchildren, Wayde Jr., Bret, Megan, Christopher, Catherine, Emma and Maxwell; brothers Darwin (Skip) Cool of Dayton, Ohio, Adellan Jr. of Farmington, Glen (Butch) Cool of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Fritchman

Services for Barbara A. Fritchman, 50, of Maple Grove will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bass Lake Rd. and Hwy. 101, Maple Grove.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Chapel of Plymouth, 37th Ave. N. and Vicksburg Ln.

Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mrs. Fritchman died Monday, Oct. 1. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by grandmother Char Heinrich and aunt, Snooky Heinrich.

Survivors include her husband, Russel; daughters, Kristina and Cindy; parents, Clayton and Mardell Lisy; brother, Scott Lisy and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Kosloski

Services for Mary Johanna Kosloski, 76, of Maple Grove, were Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave N., Osseo. Interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Mrs. Kosloski died at her home, of cancer Wednesday, Oct. 3.

She was one of 17 children born in Rice, to Joseph and Apolonia Pietrzak, Polish immigrants. She worked for Minneapolis Public Schools for 20 years.

Mrs. Kosloski was preceded in death by her husband, Earl.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Stendahl, Karl (Donna), Glen (Marge) Coleen (Tom) Sanger, Diana (Gary) Borchardt; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

George Hoff

Services for George A. Hoff, 52, of Crane Lake, formerly of Plymouth, were Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on County Rd. 9, and Northwest Blvd., Plymouth.

Mr. Hoff died unexpectedly in Ontario, Canada, Wednesday, Sept. 26. He was born in Minneapolis Nov. 13, 1948, and grew up in Golden Valley. He graduated from Benilde High School in St. Louis Park in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.

Mr. Hoff was united in marriage to Terrie Fischer Sept. 18, 1971, in Plymouth. He had been a plumbing contractor from 1977 to the present. He was a pilot who loved flying, and also enjoyed guitar, along with fishing. He had been going to Crane Lake for many years, and moved there permanently in 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Terrie; sons, Jerard (Robin Barrett) of Plymouth and Trevor of Crane Lake; his mother, Mary Hoff of Maple Grove; and sister, Joanne (Charles) Keenan of Maple Grove.

Esther LaZerte

Services for Esther Ann LaZerte, 90, of Maple Grove were Friday, Oct. 5, 2001 at Osseo Church of the Nazarene, Osseo.

Private interment at Morningside Cemetery.

Mrs. LaZerte died Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Maple Grove. She was born may 2, 1911 in Iron Mountain, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard; father, Charles Peterson, mother Anna (Aho); brothers, Amos Blom, Axel Peterson and Toivo Neimi; grandson, Lonnie LaZerte, great granddaughter, Crystal Cameron.

Survivors include children, Phil (JoNell), Hank (Betty), Phyllis Cameron, Mary Sutton (Jim), Esther Walters (LeRoy), Lucy Norkunas (Tom), Helen Baker (Don), Don (Sharon), Lucky (Becky); sister, Elfie Rinne; 23 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

William G. Mathews

Services for William G. Mathews, 87, of Monticello, formerly of Long Prairie, were Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center.

Mr. Mathews was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Milbank, S.D. He died Sept. 26.

He is survived by wife, Kathleen; daughter, Ann Mielke of Rogers; son, Charles of Honolulu; three granddaughters and two great-great grandchildren; brother, Charles of Bemidji; and sisters, Kate and Gladys Mathews of Long Prairie.

Dawn Palmer

Services for Dawn M. Palmer, 49, of Dayton were Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Anoka with Pastor Abe Cardosa officiating.

Mrs. Palmer died Thursday, Sept. 27, at Mercy Hospital. She was born July 10, 1952, in Minneapolis the daughter of Lloyd and Ervina O. (Schwartz) Mason.

She was married to Troy Palmer, and worked in electronics assembly.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by her husband, Troy; daughter, Shannon Kroehler and husband Jamie; sons, Jason, Nicholas and Andrew; grandchildren, Brianna and Jacob Kroehler; mother, Ervina Mason; six brothers; fours sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Mason.

Robert Spies

Services for Robert L. Spies, 67, of Brooklyn Center were Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Brooklyn Center.

Mr. Spies died due to cancer complications Sunday, Sept. 30, in St. Louis Park. He was born May 26, 1934, in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

He was survived by his wife Margaret, or "Peg;" children, Robert L. Spies of Bay Village, Ohio, Lisa McKinney (Ryan) of Champlin, and Kris Tanji (Ken) of Westfield, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, Katie, Connor, Ellie, Maggie, Matt, Anna, Molly, Kylie, Gavin and Annie; six siblings, Jane Johnston of Scottsdale, Ariz., Charles Spies (Lucy) of Bloomington, John Spies (Jeanine) of Emmetsburg, Mary Sully (Lou) of Fort Calhoun, Neb., Tom Spies (Betty) of Scottsdale, and Elisabeth (Mike) of Iowa City, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Mario Minell of Brooklyn Center, Peter Hart of Okojobi, Iowa, and Gerald Paquin (Peg) of Park Rapids. He was preceded in death by parents Charles J. and Isabel Spies, and siblings Ann Minell and Isabel Hart.

Mr. Spies was a longtime First Bank/US Bank officer and community leader. Bob was educated at St. Louis University and joined First National Bank of Minneapolis in1957 where he worked until retirement in 1997. He was also the founder of First American Funds where he served as a member of the Board of Directors. Bob was very active in community service. He was a member of the Brooklyn Center School Board for 26 years, the Brooklyn Center Lions Club for 33 years, the Board of Directors of the Association of Metropolitan School Districts, the Brooklyn Center Crime Prevention WHAT, and the Brooklyn Center Citizens for Better Government.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and St. Alphonsus Church.

William Steffen

Services for William B. Steffen, 71, of Osakis were Saturday, Sept. 22, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Long Prairie.

Burial was at Ft. Snelling Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Steffen.

Survivors include his wife Bernice; children Gail (Joseph) Diedrick, Glenn (Amy) Steffen, Christopher Steffen, Cheryl (Jeffrey)Swenson, Scott Steffen, Mary (Rob) Dorn, Mark Steffen; eight grandchildren; brother, Edward Steffen; sister, Patricia (Paul) Kidwell.
