Roger Ping

Services for Roger L. Ping, 54, of Maple Grove were Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 22, at Maple Grove Lutheran Church.

Mr. Ping died Saturday, Sept. 15, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 13, 1947.

He attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years including two Vietnam tours and the Middle East conflict aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. America. He retired in 1991 following his final duty in the NROTC Unit at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. After his naval retirement he was employed at Recovery Engineering in Brooklyn Park.

Mr. Ping was preceded in death by his mother Beulah and his brother Michael.

Survivors include his wife Carol and son Ryan of Maple Grove; father, Robert from Ireton, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law Randal and Linda from Sheldon, Iowa; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Shirley Asseln of Craig, Iowa; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Rebecca Asseln of Craig, Iowa; nine nieces and three nephews.

Elaine Rakow

Services for Elaine O. Rakow, 65, of Champlin were Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at Advent Lutheran Church, 9475 Jefferson Hwy. N., Maple Grove.

Burial was at Rush Creek Cemetery, Maple Grove.

Mrs. Rakow died Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Robbinsdale. She was born Sept. 28, 1935 in Appleton.

She was a very active member at Advent Lutheran Church. She was retired from U.S. Banks.

Mrs. Rakow was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Viola Koosmann and brother Arland (Bud).

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Vincent M.; children and spouses Rich (Sharon) of Blaine, Nancy of Oak Grove, Mike (Denise) of Champlin, Patricia (Cabot) Frenette of Dallas, Dave (Ann) of Brooklyn Park; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren; brother Tom Koosmann of Blaine, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be given to the Elaine O. Rakow Memorial Fund.

Ida Rosch

Services for Ida (Peggy) L. Rosch, 83, of Maple Grove were Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel in Hopkins.

Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Rose and Duane Barcla, George and Cathy Rosch, and Debra Rosch; grandchildren, Rebecca Barclay and Ashley Rosch; brother, Jack Anderson; sister, Hilda Laine; nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the St. Therese Home of New Hope.

Brittany J. Anderson

Services for Brittany J. Anderson, 21, of Champlin were Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Historic Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel. Burial is at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

She is survived by her parents David and Kathy; sister Alyson; brother Ian; grandmother Marlys Posthumus and friend Robert Ford; grandmother Isobel Anderson; special aunts and uncles Kari Posthumus and Cully House, Gene and Kathy Posthumus, Jay and Kelli Posthumus, and Colin and Lynne Anderson; great aunt Helen Cathro; and cousin Morag Swain, both of Scotland; many other special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in the United States and abroad.

Memorials are preferred to the family.

Earl C. Barnes

Services for Earl C. Barnes, 81, formerly of Champlin and Alice, Texas, were Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka. Burial is at Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka.

He is survived by wife Verna; children Karen (Dave) Elling, Barb (Mick) Alafat, Jeff (Ginny), Bill (Marilyn), Sue (Mick) White, Lee Barnes; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Tom; sisters Macille Reinholdson, DeLight Olson, Geraldine (Bernie) Roll, Pat Barnes.

Dr. Allen Burton

Services for Dr. Allen W., Burton, 47, of Maple Grove were Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Maple Grove Covenant Church, 9350 Upland Ln., Maple Grove.

Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Dr. Burton died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 6, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

He was a full professor of kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. He specialized in developmental physical education and motor-skills assessment. After receiving a master's degree in kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1979 and a doctorate in physical education from the University of Oregon, he began his career at the University of Minnesota in 1984 in the Institute of Child Development. Two years later he became an assistant professor in the School of Kinesiology, a study of human muscular movements. He was promoted to associate professor in 1992 and received full professor in 2000. He also was a world renown expert and author in motor development.

Dr. Burton was also an Elder of Maple Grove Covenant Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; sons, Eric and Mark; parents, William and Ruth; sister, Joyce Ostrowski (Michael); brother, Richard (Dorothy); other family and friends.

Memorials Preferred to the family for his sons' college fund.

Nanette Blanchette

Services for Nanette Blanchette, 45, of Medina, were Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus in Medina.

Mrs. Blanchette died Monday, Sept. 3, peacefully at home following a courageous six-year battle with brain cancer.

She is survived by husband, Tom; daughters, Sara and Katie; son, Brian; parents, Gerald (Jerry) and Therese Borrell; sister, Jeanine Johnson (Dale), Julie VanBeusekom (Tony), Paula Pysick (Stuart); brothers Dennis (Russell), George (Mary); many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gregg Carlson

A memorial service for Gregg Alan Carlson, 49, was Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, with a visitation one hour prior at Cremation Society of MN Brooklyn Park Chapel, 7835 Brooklyn Blvd.

Mr. Carlson was born on Aug. 19, 1952, in Minneapolis and lived in the metro area all his life. He fought a valiant battle against cancer with courage, grace and humor but lost his fight.

He graduated from Osseo High School in 1970 and North Suburban Hennepin County Area Vo-Tec with a degree in diesel mechanics in 1975. He worked at Cummins North Central in Roseville for 25 years where he completed many correspondence courses and earned numerous certificates of achievement awards as a diesel technician. He was also a member of the local 49ers Union. He enjoyed music, golf, hunting with his father and friends and riding four wheelers. He enjoyed being at work and relaxing with his friends at Mayslacks.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife Gayle (Nori) whom he married on Nov. 28,1998; parents, Wesley and Helen Carlson; grandmother, Helen Edstrom; sisters, Chris (Gary) Ljunggren, Denise (Gary) Solarz, Karen (Ken) Carlson; and nieces and nephews; step-son, Derek (Tammy) Nori; step-daughter, Camille (Dan) Clemmer; four grandchildren; mother-in-law, Norma Heikkila; step-mother-in-law, Judy Nori; 10 brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law, and his special caregivers Tom Nori and Kim Thompson; a host of friends and co-workers at Cummins North Central.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Good Counsel Home.

Eleanor Cassidy

Services for Eleanor Cassidy, 87, of Rockford, formerly of Robbinsdale, were Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Loretto.

Mrs. Cassidy was a long-time second grade teacher at Sacred Heart School in Robbinsdale and was a den mother for Cub Scouts.

She was preceded in death by husband, John.

She is survived by children; Jim (Nancy) of St. Michael, Marje (Dr. Thomas) Halgren of Wenatchee, Wash., Bob (Jackie) of Rockford, Tom (Susan) of Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Robert Clarke

A Memorial Mass for Robert E. Clarke, 77, of Osseo was Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave N., Brooklyn Park.

Mr. Clarke died Sunday, Sept. 2.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was Past Commander of Palmer Lake VFW Post 3915 and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 9139.

Mr. Clarke was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pearl; brother, Frank; sisters, Marguerite and Lillian.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Humphrey); son, Larry and his wife, Jerilyn (Barli); granddaughters, Tara and Jeanna; brothers, Douglas (Betty), and Richard (Carlene); sisters, Maybelle Wheeler, and Bernice Gregg (Don); sister-in-law, Dorothy; and other relatives and friends.

Esther Margaret Dailey

Services for Esther Margaret Dailey, resident of Berkshire Residence in Osseo, previously of New Rockford, N.D, and Minot, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001.

Services were Friday, Sept. 7, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave N, Brooklyn Park.

Private burial at New Rockford.

Memorials to the family.

She was born Oct. 7, 1909, to Amelia and John Thompson in Tolkio, N.D.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William E. Dailey; infant son, Larry; grown sons, William and Daniel; and four grandsons, Robbin Dailey and Sean Dailey, John Plum and Michael Plum.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth (John) Plum of Littleton, Colo., Allan (Jackie) Dailey of Plymouth, Roger (Jackie) Dailey of Broken Arrow, Okla., Delores Davis of Maple Grove, Rita (Roger) Norling of Prior Lake, and David (Loraine) Dailey of Minot, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Lorene Dailey of Minnetonka; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Tony) Burkhart; brother, Leslie Thompson; and sister-in-law, Tiny Thompson.

Norman Dibble

Norman Delos Dibble Sr., 89, of Plymouth, Maple Grove and Nisswa, formerly of Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001.

Service was Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Albin Chapel, 2200 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis.

Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Minneapolis.

Mr. Dibble retired from the Star Tribune in 1976 where he was a newsroom and graphic artist for 34 years. He was a member and past Deacon of First Baptist Church of Minneapolis, and was confirmed as a youth at Bethel Lutheran Church of North Minneapolis. Mr. Dibble was a cartoonist and creator of Carrot Top for The Gleaner (an agricultural magazine).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank D. and Cora Dibble, and wives, Emerald M. Dibble (1939-1980) and Adeline M. Dibble (1981-1997). He was a man of faith, an encourager, gentle, caring, loving and generous.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Emerald Caufman and her husband Geoffrey of Plymouth; son, Norman D. Dibble Jr. and his wife Peggy of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Mark G. Caufman and his wife Robin of Plymouth, and Christa Joy Caufman of Dallas, Texas; aunt, Alphild E. Maygren of North Minneapolis; faithful friend, Edward Magnuson of New Brighton, and many other dear friends.

Roy Erno

Services for Roy Fredrick Erno, of Osseo were Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. with a memorial mass at The Church of St. Vincent de Paul in Brooklyn Park.

Mr. Erno died Thursday, Sept. 6. He was born Jan. 16, 1921.

He was an honorable World War II veteran Asiatic-Pacific Theater 120 Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded the Phillipine Liberation ribbon and Bronze star. Mr. Erno was a gifted carpenter and a great friend.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; daughter, Janet (Gene) Torbert of Eagan; sons, David of Palmdale, Calif. and Terry of Dayton; grandchildren, Tim Torbert Brian (Abbie) Torbert Wesley Erno, Cayla Thomas and Tara Erno; great-grandson, Reese Torbert; many close friends and relatives.

Erika Gmach-Rabe

Erika Gmach-Rabe, 67, of Rogers died recently after a courageous battle with cancer.

A private family service is planned. In one year, a celebration of her life will be conducted.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Rabe.

Survivors include her husband Gerald; children, Gene (Kathleen), Mike (Debbie), Judy (Dan) Schirmers, and Mark (Sonia); grandchildren, Bryan, Chad, Brooke, Chelsea, Tyler and Clayton Rabe; brother, John (Olga) Hofer.

Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society for pancreatic cancer research.

Carl Goeb

Services for Carl Loren Goeb, 53, of St. Michael were 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

The Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant for the mass, and interment with military rites followed at the church cemetery.

James Goeb, Jerry Schirmers, Peter Marx, Danny Lenz, Rodney Duerr, Nicholas Beach, Joe Psyk and Jerry Dehmer served as casket bearers.

Mr. Goeb was born in St. Michael March 12, 1948, the son of Leander G. and Sophie C. Jaeb Goeb.

He graduated from St. Michael High School in 1966 and later served his country in the U.S. Army. He engaged in farming in southern St. Michael for many hears and was a past chairman of the Wright County Farm Service Agency County Committee.

Mr. Goeb was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He sang in the St. Michael Choir for 20 years and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Council 4171. He also belonged to the St. Michael Lions Club.

Mr. Goeb is survived by wife, Linda Houghton Goeb; son, Jeff Goeb, at home; a stepson, Jay (Stephanie) Houghton of St. Michael; his mother, Sophie C. Goeb, of Buffalo; brothers and sisters, John (Mary) Goeb of Anoka, Ronald (Lena) Goeb of Big Lake, Mary (Donald) Lindenfelser of Richville, Robert (LaVonne) Goeb of Big Lake, Helen Haus of Battle Lake, Alice (Fred) Vetsch of St. Michael, Paul (Annette) Goeb of Duluth, Ruth (Rick) Lehn of Loretto, William Goeb of Buffalo and Susan (Aro) Mattila of Zimmerman; his mother-in-law, Agnes Mahin of Steele, N.D.; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Goeb is preceded in death by his father, Leander G. Goeb, in 1991.
