Arthur W. Winters

Services for Arthur W. Winters, 103, of Buffalo were 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug., 29, 2001, at Karrington Assisted Living of Buffalo.

Rev. Edward A. Blair officiated.

Marlene Mohwinkel was the pianist and Jeanne Dixon the vocalist.

Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society.

Mr. Winters died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001 at The Ebenezer Covenant Home.

He was born in Marquette, Mich., March 14, 1898, the son of William and Anna Becker Winters.

Mr. Winters honorably served his country during WW I and was decorated for his distinguished service.

He graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich., with a degree in civil & mining engineering.

Through the years, Mr. Winters was employed at Longyear Engineering, The Huron Portland Cement Company, the city of Marquette, Mich., and later in various civil engineering positions in Saginaw, Mich.

Mr. Winters was a member and past commander of The American Legion Post in Marquette, Mich. He also belonged to The Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M. and to T.R.O.A.

He is survived by a son, Jack (Cynthia) Winters of Leesburg, Fla.; a daughter, Judy (Peter) Seibert of St. Michael; grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Winters of Aurora, Colo., Jack (Tara) Winters of Atlanta, Ga., Tom (Mary) Winters of Gaithersburg, Md., Jeffrey (Kelly) Seibert of Big Lake, Jennifer (Dean) Seibert-Hager of White Bear Lake and Patrick Seibert of St. Michael; great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Ann (Dale) Doverspike of Sun City, Ariz.; other relatives and friends.

Mr. Winters is preceded in death by wives, Marjorie Youngs Winters and Evelyn Greenleaf Winters; and by brothers, Orin and William Winters.

Marguerite Bechtold

Services for Marguerite M. Bechtold, 76, of Rockford Township were Thursday, Aug. 23, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. Pastor Paul R. Settergren officiated and interment followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends called at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 22. A Prayer Service was held on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.

Colleen Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. Tim Duerr was the vocalist. "On Eagles' Wings" and "Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound" were sung as congregational hymns.

Brian Wagner, Walt Bechtold, Tim Bechtold, Paul Schutte, Todd Schleif and Ed Sjolin served as the casket bearers.

Mrs. Bechtold died early Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at The North Ridge Care Center in New Hope. She was born in Rockford Township Sept. 15, 1924, the daughter of August and Anna Hafner Wagner.

She was baptized on Sept. 19, 1924. She was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith as an adult on Oct. 25, 1946. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1943.

On July 27, 1946, Marguerite Wagner and Vernon Bechtold were joined in holy marriage at the Parsonage of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. God blessed their marriage with a son, Rodney.

Mr. and Mrs. Bechtold engaged in farming for many years. Marguerite was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

She is survived by a son, Rodney (Lucy) Bechtold of Hanover; grandchildren, Daniel (Malissa) Bechtold, David (Tracy) Bechtold, Daryl (Janelle) Bechtold, Dawn Bechtold and fiancee Matt Strehler, Duane Bechtold, Deanne Bechtold, Dennis Bechtold and Denise Bechtold; a great grandson, Dawson Bechtold; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Margaret Schutte, Bernice Bechtold, and Willmar (Caroline) Bechtold; many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Bechtold was preceded in death by her husband Vernon W. Bechtold on July 21, 1998; her parents; brothers, Raymond Wagner and Clarence Wagner; a sister, Evelyn Wagner; and by brothers-in-law Bernard Bechtold and Harold Schutte.

David Allen Gjerdingen

Services for David Allen Gjerdingen, 36, of Champlin, were Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at United Methodist Church of Anoka. Burial is at Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka.

He was killed Wednesday, Aug. 29, after being thrown from his motorcycle while driving in Spring Lake Park.

He was an ideal dad, husband, son and brother and always a friend.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years Rosemary; children Rachael, Nathan and Alex; parents David and Jane; brothers Craig (Jaime), Eric; sister Christina; father-in-law Tony (Karen) Marqueti; brother-in-law Marco Marqueti; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Todd) Schmaltz; many good friends and relatives.

Nels P. Jessen

Services for Nels P. Jessen, 82, formerly of St. Michael were conducted Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

Rev. Dennis K. Strong officiated and interment followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

David Farstad was the organist. "I'm But a Stranger Here", "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" were sung as congregational hymns.

Mr. Jessen died Tuesday Aug. 21, at the Ebenezer Covenant Home.

He was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Minneapolis, the son of Nels and Alma Orum Jessen.

Mr. Jessen honorably served in the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded a Bronze Star.

On Sept. 24, 1949, Mr. Jessen was joined in holy marriage to Adeline Holland at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Mr. and Mrs. Jessen engaged in dairy farming in Greenfield for many years. He was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Nels was also a former member of the Greenfield Planning Commission.

Mr. Jessen is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Adeline Jessen; children, Jennifer (Lyle) Nelson of Maple Grove, Nels Jessen III of Buffalo and Laurie Jessen of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Tristin (Dale) Host of Crosslake, Mark Nelson of Mankato, Adam Jessen and Drew Jessen both of Buffalo; great-grandchildren, Tarissa, Brandon, and Jordan Host and Hunter Jessen; sisters, Betty Pouliot of Maple Grove and June (Harold) Jessen of Blaine; many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Nels Jessen was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Agnes Kaunzner

Services for Agnes "Scuss" Kaunzner, 65, of Hanover were Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Homer Dobson officiated and interment followed at The Hanover Village Cemetery.

Jack Bennett, John Bennett, Arnold Kral, Bill Finke, Dennis Kaunzner, Lane Johnson and Harry Lippert served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Kaunzner died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at her residence.

She was born in Minneapolis Feb. 13, 1936, the daughter of Gilbert and Pauline Peshina Melchior.

She graduated from North High School.

On Feb. 25, 1956, Agnes Melchior was joined in holy marriage to Darrell L. Kaunzner at The First Christian Church in Minneapolis. Mr. Kaunzner preceded his wife in death Aug. 22, 1995.

She was employed for 20 years at Byerly's Gift Foods.

She is survived by children, Wendy (Steve) Froistad of Maple Grove, Robert Kaunzner of Minneapolis, Scott (Teresa) Kaunzner of Elk River and Tony Kaunzner of Hanover; grandchildren, Kristen, Heidi and Heather Froistad, Corey and Shelby Kaunzner and Vanessa Ogren; sisters, Barbara (Dan) Harkins of Florida, Joan (George) Graen of Louisiana and Jane Bennett of Plymouth; an aunt Beatrice Peshina; other relatives and friends.

Gloria Papenfuss

Services for Gloria C. Papenfuss, 78, of Osseo were Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at Gerty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel.

Burial was in Glen Haven.

Mrs. Papenfuss was preceded in death by son John and great-grandson, Zach.

Survivors include her husband Walter; sons, Tony and Robert Papenfuss; daughters, Kathy Potvin, Peggy Walters, Patty Peterson, Jeanette Dickinson and Becky Papenfuss; 12 grandchildren and one expected; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Gerry, Gren, Jenny, Gladys and Garnett.

Daryl Schendel

Services for Daryl R. Schendel, 43, were Thursday, Aug. 30, at Buffalo Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Schendel died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in Lexington, Ky.

He is survived by father Leonard and stepmother Lela; fiancé Cami Ivers; step-children Kevin, Brandi and Tyler and his dog Saydi; sisters Bonita (Larry) Henley, and Patricia (Donald) Miller; brothers Gaylord Schendel, Keith (Debbie) Schendel and Craig (Rebecca) Schendel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Colleen Schendel.

Norman Thomas

Services for Norman Thomas, 63 of Hamel, were Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto, with Rev. Brain Fier, officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman's nephews: Jacob Thomas, Jr., David Thomas, Chris Thomas, Michael Chandler, Steve Bouley and Kurt Bouley.

Mr. Thomas died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. He was born the son of Jacob C. and Anna (Schuler) Thomas on Nov. 16, 1937, in Wayzata.

He was a graduate of Orono High School. He farmed in the Medina area most of his life, but he also worked as a plumber. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Loretto.

He was a avid hunter, fisherman and trapper and he enjoyed trapshooting. He was a member of the Delano Sportsman's Club. He liked dogs, especially his beloved Tigger, who died two weeks ago.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Anna Thomas; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Thomas.

He is survived by three brothers, Jacob and Kenneth of Delano; Carl and Del of Loretto; sister, Mary Ann and Russel Bouley of Hamel; and many nieces and nephews.

Delores I. Vergin

Services for Delores I. Vergin, 80, of Buffalo, were Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

Pastor James Disney officiated and interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Mrs. Vergin died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at the Ebenezer Covenant Home. She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Rockford Township, the daughter of Henry J. and Marie H. (Wandersee) Ramthun.

She was baptized March 27, 1921, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crawford Lake. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church June 17, 1934. Her confirmation memory verse was Isaiah 43:1, "Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine."

She married Otto Vergin March 19, 1938, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple loved to dance. Mr. Vergin preceded his wife in death Oct. 3, 1990.

Mrs. Vergin was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo. She enjoyed traveling, baking and cooking.

She is survived by sons, Gary (Sandie) Vergin and Todd Vergin; granddaughter, Heidi (Brian) Vergin-Dahlin; great-grandchild, Brenna Dahlin; sister, Ferne Bruhn, all of Buffalo; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice Ramthun, Laura Ramthun, Erna Ramthun-Steenerson, Lois (Aaron) Dixon and Joyce (Thore) Meyer, all of Buffalo, Virgil (Lois) Vergin of Eden Prairie, Mabel (Joe) Hermerding of Cross Lake and Jim (Dorothy) Vergin of Buffalo; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Vergin was preceded in death by parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Marah Blom

Marah Beth Blom, 12, of Maple Grove died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece.

Mar will be deeply missed by her parents, Dave and Kathy; siblings, Kelly, Ashlie and Alex; grandparents, Ron and Janet Blom, Tom and Pam Hjermstad and Marilyn Hjermstad; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Marah touched more people's lives in 12 years than most can hope in a lifetime.

Special thank you to the Courage Center and Weaver Lake Elementary School. "We love you very much, Marah Beth."

Daryl Bovy

Services for Daryl Bovy, 43, of Maple Grove were Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Osseo United Methodist Church.

Burial was in Niggler Cemetery.

Mr. Bovy was born April 17, 1958 in Minneapolis and died Saturday, Aug. 25, in Maple Grove.

He was a member of Osseo United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bovy was preceded in death by his son Matthew.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years Brenda; daughters, Kristy, Melissa and Mirands; son, Ryan; parents, Al and Bernie Bovy; parents-in-law, Bob and Ardith Seeman, Cheryl (Buzz) Jensen, Gail (Ken) Mostoller, Lynn (Terry) Ostlund and brother-in-law, Steve (Denise) Seeman.

Memorials preferred.
