Henry Lanars

Services for Henry Lanars, 62, of Rockford were Thursday, Aug. 2, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto with Rev. Brian Fier officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lanars died on Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Louis Park Plaza.

Henry, son of Louis and Edna (Exner) Lanars, was born on April 30, 1939 in Hassan Township.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Loretto Council 9601 and a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.

He is survived by two sisters; Bernice and George Geyer, and Lena Hashiemer; two brothers; Ivan and Lila, Joseph and Bonnie and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Henrietta F. Lohrke

Services for Henrietta F. Lohrke, 91, of Delano, were Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Rev. Jay Klein officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were Jim Psyck, Steven Rieland, Jerry Rohlfsen, Ron Novak, David Lange and Dennis Lange.

Mrs. Lohrke died Monday, July 30, 2001, at her residence in Franklin Township. She was born Oct. 3, 1909 in Marcus Township, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Boldenow) Rohlfsen. She was baptized Oct. 24, 1909 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa and confirmed June 8, 1924 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

She married Royal A. Lohrke Sept. 5, 1935 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple lived in Watertown and Medford in their early married life and later purchased a farm on the north shore of Whaletail Lake. Upon their retirement, they moved to Nisswa for a short period of time and then moved to south of Delano.

Her teaching career began in 1928 south of Delano, followed by teaching positions at Swede Lake, Oak Lake, St. Bonifacius and Waconia. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, fishing, crocheting, sewing and visiting her children in her later years. She was also committed to her church activities which included LWML where she served as president and secretary several times, circuit treasurer, recording secretary for the Minnesota District LWML and a delegate at two national conventions.

She was preceded in death by husband, Royal; parents, Henry and Marie Rohlfsen; sister, Joyce Shepard and brothers, Oliver and Ronald Rohlfsen.

She is survived by children and spouses, Rev. Merlyn and Loetta Lohrke of Guthrie, Okla., Janice and Donley Kubasch of Moscow, Idaho and Richard Lohrke of Cameron, Mont.; grandchildren, Amy and John Gregg, Martin and Angela Lohrke, Marla and Frederick Guenther and Michael Lohrke; great-grandson, Joshua Gregg; sister and brother-in-law, Viola Coyle of Oxnard, Calif., Ellen Nelson of Mound and Betty and Donald Heidorn of Cape Coral, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold Rohlfsen of Faribault, Leonard and Carolyn Rohlfsen of Sun City, Ariz. and Wilbert and Evelyn Rohlfsen of Fairmont; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eileen Rohlfsen of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Ken Shepard of Helena, Mont., Wilma Lohrke of Spring Park, Irma Psyck of Spring Park and Virginia and Wilfred Rieland of St. Bonifacius; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Jean Oeffling

Services for Jean Oeffling, 58, of Loretto were Friday, Aug. 3, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Loretto with Rev. Brian Fier officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Lyrek, Kirs Georges, Jason Vieau, Joel Arens, Robert Oeffling, and Kurt Klapprich. Honorary pallbearers were Shari Coons, Susan Johnson, Karen Beaupre, Nancy Pedersen, Carol Tabery, Phil Tabery, Dean Voss, John Branson, Mike Kvasnicka, and Terry Tomann.

Mrs. Oeffling died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, after a courageous battle with cancer for 6 and 1/2 years.

Mrs. Oeffling and her husband, Jim shared over 36 years of marriage. Thirty one of those years they resided on Lake Sarah. She has a deep religious faith and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto where she was a faithful choir member.

She was employed as a secretary at Wright-Hennepin Electric for 26 years. She was a caring and loving person to friends and family and had a real gift for helping others. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, sports and she loved flowers and birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Margaret Vieau, parents-in-law, Henry and Angela Oeffling, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Carmen Goodmand and Eddie Ghostley.

She is survived by her husband, James; sons: Scott and Jill of Delano, Corey and Jennifer of Hanover, Kary and Molly of Delano; grandchildren: Rachel, Sam and Turner Oeffling, and a fourth grandchild to arrive in September; sisters: Marilyn and Harold Winterhalter of Plymouth, twin sister, Jane and Jerry Lyrek of Maple Plain, Lil and Roger Georges of Delano; brothers: Leon and Rosetta Vieau of Delano, Loren and Cec Vieau of Loretto; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bette and Howard Carstedt of Maple Lake, Jeanne and Melvin Weber of Robbinsdale, Joe and Mary Lou Goodman of Columbia Heights, Carol and Andy Pettit of Loretto, Eleanor Ghostley of Anoka, Nick and Katie Oeffling of Loretto, Helen and Paul Klapprich of Wayzata, Catherine and Frank Meister of Corcoran, and Judy and Tom Arens of Loretto; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and her many friends.

Elwood M. "Rod" Rademacher

Services for Elwood M. "Rod" Rademacher, 64, were Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Lyndale Lutheran Church in Independence.

Pastor Lyndon Nygaard officiated and interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Pallbearers were Andy, Michael and Jake Rademacher, Eddie Malecek, Andrew Smith, Bruce Brasseur, Mitchel Pierson and Jim Kartak. Honorary casketbearers were Larry Person, Fred Kettenacker, Harold Larson, Bob McCoy, Donny Bangle and John Staskivige.

Mr. Rademacher died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. He was born June 14, 1937 in Willmar, the son of Ernest and Caroline (Ellefson) Rademacher. He met Patricia Mae Malecek in October of 1985 and they were wed Feb. 16, 1994 in Las Vegas.

Mr. Rademacher restored old buggies and he enjoyed old Western movies as well as traveling and camping. He was a past president of the Rockford Lions Club. He was the owner of JR Installation. He completed his carpentry apprenticeship in 1964. Originally, he started and owned Hip Construction and Rademacher Sales and Installation in Rockford. At one time he worked as building inspector for the city of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Caroline and daughter, Beth Zahler. He is survived by wife, Patricia of Rockford; sons, Joel and JoAnn and sons, Andy and Jake of Buffalo and John and Sandy and daughter, Megan of Albertville; daughter, Mary Rademacher and Joseph Field and children, Amber, Desiree, Ashley, Hailey and Clayton of Maple Lake; brother, Michael and Judy Rademacher of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Susan Narum of Anoka, Jane and Larry Persons of Coon Rapids and Sally Pierson of Blaine; mother and father-in-law, Edward and Louise Malecek of Delano; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward L. "Butch" and Martha Malecek of Delano, Theodore "Ted" and Debbie of Santa Claus, Ind., David Malecek of Sioux Falls, S.D., Michael Malecek of Delano, Steven Malecek of Petaluma, Calif., Jon and Patty Malecek of Maple Plain, Jacquelyn and Larry Smith of Hutchinson, Mary and Alan Spears of Tulsa, Okla., Jean and Don Hayes of Montrose and Terry and Daryl Foss of Elk River; many other relatives and friends.

Darrell L. Taylor

Services will be at a later date for Darrell L. Taylor, 66, of Eden Valley.

He died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Paynesville Area Hospital. He was born May 31, 1935 in Hawkins, Wis., the son of Everett and Ruby (Harvey) Taylor. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He also worked as a printer for Phoenix Packaging Co. in Maple Grove, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Delano American Legion.

Mr. Taylor is survived by son, Wade of Baron, Wis.; step-daughter, Deborah Koltis of Thorp, Wis.; grandson, Christopher Taylor of Sauk Centre; great-grandchildren, Spencer Freud and Raven Taylor of Sauk Centre; sisters and brothers, Edna Morgan of Elk River, Violet Harless of Rush City, Bonnie Granberg of Prentice, Wis., Betty Halvorson of Bayfield, Wis., Ed Taylor, Sr. of Sheldon, Wis. and Jim Taylor of Eden Valley.

He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Bud Taylor and sister, Dot Severen.

Anna Willems

Services for Anna K. Willems 100, of Buffalo were Monday, July 30, 2001, at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo.

Rev. Kenneth F. Ludescher was the celebrant.

Corrie Silverberg, LeRoy Welter, Joe Eull, Louis Goeb, John Zachman and Darwin Kuehn served as casket bearers.

Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery.

Mrs. Willems died Wednesday, July 25, at the Good Samaritan Center in Howard Lake.

She was born in St. Michael Sept. 29, 1900, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Kemmetmueller Goeb.

Anna and her husband, Peter P. (Pete) Willems, farmed near Hanover many years and moved into the city of Buffalo in 1958.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo and a former member of St. Michael Church in St. Michael.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 16, 1983; her parents; a sister, Josephine D. Willems and by a brother, Ed Goeb.

Survivor include her half sisters, Clara Kuehn of Corcoran and Joan Herman of Anoka, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

James R. Graen

Services for James R. Graen, 42, of Dayton, were Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Washburn-McReavy Robbinsdale Chapel. Interment is at Gethsemane Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Sue; daughter Mackenzie; son Gavin; parents James and Patricia; brothers Jeff (Julie) and Tom; sisters Patricia (Wayne) Carlson and Kelly Zwack; also many nieces and nephews.

He was employed by S & W Plastics.

Viola Marie Haven

Services for Viola Marie Haven, 64, of Montrose, were Saturday, July 28, 2001.

Rev. James Livingston officiated and interment was at the Church of St. Mary of Czestochowa in Delano.

Casket bearers were her brothers, Donald Leuthardt, Edward Leuthardt, Marvin Leuthardt, James Leuthardt, Robert Leuthardt and Thomas Leuthardt.

Mrs. Haven died peacefully at her home surrounded by her husband and family Tuesday, July 24, following a valiant battle against cancer. She was born July 14, 1937, in rural Chokio, the daughter of Peter and Agnes (Barlage) Leuthardt. She was the second of 13 children and was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio.

Mrs. Haven received all schooling at Chokio Public School and graduated valedictorian and homecoming queen in 1955. After graduation, she was employed at Northwestern National Bank in Minneapolis from 1955 to 1960.

She was joined in marriage to Dennis L. Haven June 11, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio. The couple had five children. They made their home in St. Louis Park for eight years before moving to their present home in Montrose in 1973.

Mrs. Haven was a faithful member of the Church of St. Mary of Czestochowa in Delano. She was always active in church, giving of her time and talents whenever possible. Along with singing in the church choir, she shared her deep faith with the young people as a CCD instructor in every parish she was a member.

She centered her entire life around her husband with whom she enjoyed more than 41 years of marriage, her children, her 15 grandchildren, her home and most importantly, her faith. She will be missed deeply, but her faith, strength, wisdom and everyday presence will remain in our hearts forever.

She is survived by husband, Dennis Haven; daughters, Kimberly (Brian) Jans of Buffalo, Tracy (Michael) Hinkemeyer of Monticello, Cynthia (James) Marston of Buffalo and Denise (Mark) Holthaus of Monticello; son, Anthony Haven and fiancée Angie Robeck of Montrose; grandchildren, Joshua, Miranda, Lukas, Zachary and Marissa Jans, Brienne and Jenna Hinkemeyer, Emily, William and Haley Marston, Ashley, Aaron, Alexandra, Abbie and Allie Holthaus and a 16th grandchild to arrive in September; sisters and brothers, Donald (Sheila) Leuthardt of Morris, Patricia (Stanley) Bohn of Fremont, Neb., Edward (Connie) Leuthardt of Minneapolis, Marvin Leuthardt of St. Paul, James (Joanne) Leuthardt of St. Joseph, Robert Leuthardt of Burnsville, Beverly Leuthardt of Chokio, Sandra (Phillip) Moser of Rochester and Thomas (Vicki) Leuthardt of Chokio; sister-in-law, Audrey Leuthardt of Ortonville; brother-in-law, Loren Moser of Anaheim, Calif.; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, in particular, Judy and Dave Bodin and Maxine and Leon Kaczmarek.

She was preceded in death by parents, Peter and Agnes (Barlage) Leuthardt; sisters, Marlys Leuthardt and Doris Moser; and brother, Ralph Leuthardt.

Don Hesse

Services for Don R. Hesse, 53, of Maple Grove were Monday, July 23, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Enga-White-Gleason Funeral Chapel, 5500 Stevens Ave.

Burial was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Hesse died suddenly Wednesday, July 18.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie and brother, Ron.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Pat; father, Ronald A.; brother, Tim (Karen); mother and father-in-law, Carol and Ron Widlund and beloved pets, Gremlin and Gizmo.

He was employed with the Bulk Mail Center in Eagan. He was an avid outdoorsman and appreciated all forms of nature. He will be missed by family and friends.

Memorials preferred.

Howard Kurtzweil

Services for Howard J. Kurtzweil, 47, of Maple Grove will be Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the DuSchane Chapel, 4239 West Broadway, Robbinsdale.

A gathering for friends and family will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 25, 1953 in Wausau, Wis. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School and attended the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. He began a career in the commercial printing industry while in high school. He moved to Minneapolis and worked for several printing companies in the Twin Cities area. He was married to Peg Skelly for 15 years and was a dedicated father to his children, Colin 12, and Alex 11.

He enjoyed playing his guitar and listening to blues and rock and roll music.

Besides his wife and sons, survivors include his parents, Norbert and Betty Kurtzweil of Horseshoe Bend, Ariz.; sister, Dyan Lopez of Stevens Point, Wis.; brothers Rick (Barb) of Horseshoe Bend, Ariz.; Steve (Kathy) of Chaska; Terry (Mary) of Stevens Point, Wis., Tim of Regensburg, Germany, Greg (Karen) of Stevens Point, Wis., Larry (Mary) Kurtzweil of Hartford, Wis., brother, Jerry (Michelle) of Schaumberg, Ill; sister, Sarah Marie (Ken) Koput of Tucson, Ariz.; 15 nieces and nephews and a myriad of friends and business acquaintances in the Twin Cities and Stevens Point.

Grace L. Kormylo

Services for Grace L. Kormylo, 77, of Dayton, were Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Crystal Lake Funeral Home. Interment was at Crystal Lake Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and son, Dennis.

She is survived by her children, James (Sue), Gayle (Ray) Thurber, and Bob (Brenda); 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Norrdin; and significant other, Daniel Rittel.

Memorials are preferred.

John "Jack" Johnson

Services for John Joseph "Jack" Johnson, 5, of St. Michael were Saturday, July 21, 2001 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Rev. Leonard F. Siebenaler was the celebrant and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.

Mike Johnson, Matt Johnson, Mike McDonald and Tom McDonald served as casket bearers.

Jack died Wednesday, July 18, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

He was born Aug. 22, 1995, in Robbinsdale, the son of Randall and Mary McDonald Johnson.

Jack attended Pinewood Elementary School in Monticello and Bright Beginnings in St. Michael.

He is survived by his loving parents, Randall and Mary Johnson; a brother, Charlie Johnson at home; grandparents, Rita McDonald of Maple Grove, and Russ and June Johnson of Robbinsdale; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
