Hildegarde Schumacher

Services for Hildegarde K. "Hilde" Schumacher, 81, of St. Michael were Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant and interment followed at the St. Michael Cemetery.

Rita Stahlmann was the reader for the Mass. Gift bearers were Mary Saunders and Ann Kitt.

Greg Schumacher, Steve Schumacher, Dan Schumacher, Deb Schumacher, Ben Kitt and Matt Kitt served as the casket bearers.

Mrs. Schumacher died Sunday, July 1, at Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Elk River.

She was born July 18, 1919, in Farming, Minn., the daughter of Joseph B. and Anna Silvers Korte.

Following high school, she attended Normal School. She began teaching in Scott County and taught at the Helena School in 1940, 1941 and 1942. She later taught at West Pelican Lake, St. Albert's Parish School and 17 years at the St. Michael Parish School.

On June 13, 1942, Hildegarde Korte and Oliver "Ollie" Schumacher were joined in holy marriage in St. Benedict. God blessed their marriage with seven children.

Mrs. Schumacher was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and sang in its choir. She also served as the Eucharistic Ministry Coordinator of St. Michael Parish's home bound.

She is survived by husband, Oliver "Ollie" Schumacher; children, Don (Kitty) of Elk River, Ken (Kathy) of St. Michael, Jerry (Pat Melcher) of Minnetonka, Mary (Michael Rovner) Saunders of Oakland, Calif., Roy (Judy) of Phoenix, Ariz., Phil (Gail Pearson) of Edina and Ann (John) Kitt of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Greg (Stacy), Steve (Sheila), Deb and Dan (Sarah) Schumacher, Jon Saunders, Ben and Matt Kitt; great-grandchildren, Josie and Grant Schumacher; a sister, Eleanor Miller of Sun City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernadine Korte, Ruth Korte, Lloyd Dick, Ermin (Muriel) Schumacher and Armella Schumacher; other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Schumacher was preceded in death by parents, Joseph B. and Anna Silvers Korte; sisters, Vi York, Gen Korte, Vickie Krieger, Rita Dick and Anna Mae Korte; and brothers, Dick and Vic Korte.

Herman Droneck

Services for Herman Karl Droneck, 86, of Buffalo were conducted Saturday, June 23, 2001 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover with interment at the Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Pastor Paul R. Settergren officiated at the service.

Colleen Johnson was the organist and Tim Duerr was the vocalist.

Hymns were also played on the piano by several of Droneck's great grandchildren.

Casket bearers were Lon Droneck, Sheila Droneck, Brenda Bashor, Daryl Bashor, Jennifer Fink, Steve Fink, Scott Droneck, Sarah Droneck, Mandy Sanchez and Scott Sanchez.

Mr. Droneck died Tuesday, June 19, at the Park View Care Center.

He was born in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, Feb. 28, 1915 the son of Herman and Lydia Bartel Droneck.

He was baptized at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood Township Sept. 19, 1915. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford Aug. 26, 1928.

On June 19, 1943 Herman Droneck was joined holy marriage to Olga E. Schmidt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. God blessed their marriage with three sons: Allen, Stanley and Melvin. Mr. and Mrs. Droneck operated a dairy farm between Buffalo and Rockford for many years. Olga Droneck preceded her husband in death on January 9, 1996.

Mr. Droneck was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Droneck was preceded in death by his wife; son Allen in 1970; grandson Duncan Droneck in 1992, sister, Dorothea Droneck and by brothers, Clifford, Theodore and Roland Droneck.

Survivors include his sons, Stanley (Edie) Droneck of Buffalo and Melvin (Karmen) Droneck of Fountain Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Lon and Sheila Droneck, Brenda and Daryl Bashor, Jennifer and Steve Fink, Scott and Sarah Droneck and Mandy and Scott Sanchez; great grandchildren: Aaron, Lindsy, Stacia and Jacob; Jonathon and Benjamin; Samuel and Isabel and Savannah; sisters, Georgia Bursch of Burschville, Verdell Darvis (Harpo) Lemmage of Eau Claire and Myrtle (Alex) Weidenbach of Osseo; sisters-in-laws, Florence Schlief of Buffalo, Edith Kettenacker of Rockford and Sophie Droneck of Waverly and many other relatives and friends.

Walburga Goeb

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Walburga M. Goeb, 99, formerly of Hamel, was conducted Saturday, June 23, 2001 at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Anne in Hamel.

Father Robert A. Patterson and Father Maynard C. Kegler, OMI were the concelebrants.

Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery in Buffalo.

Mrs. Goeb died Tuesday, June 19, at the Park View Care Center.

She was born Sept. 18, 1901 in Plymouth, the daughter of Michael and Josephine Hutter Adams.

On Nov. 26, 1924, Walburga Adams and Harry F. Goeb were joined in marriage at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Medina. They engaged in farming for many years. Harry Goeb preceded his wife in death on February 8, 1966.

Mrs. Goeb was a faithful member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Medina and belonged to the Hamel Senior Citizens. She also loved children very much.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Goeb was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Josephine Adams, and by 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a sister-in-law Louise Adams of New Hope; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.

Arvo Keranen

Services for Arvo Juhani Keranen, 23, of Carbondale, Colo., formerly of Dayton, were conducted Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Minneapolis Laestadian Lutheran Church, 13030 47th Ave. N. in Plymouth.

Rev. John Lehtola officiated at the funeral service, with interment following at St. Fridolin Cemetery in Champlin.

Karen Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. Roland Keranen, John Keranen, Risto Keranen, Jason Wikman, John Wikman and Steve Parks served as casket bearers.

Mr. Keranen died accidentally near Basalt, Colorado on Tuesday, June 19, 2001.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1978, in Edina, the son of Harold and Aila Markkanen Keranen.

He graduated from Champlin Park High School in 1997. He was most recently employed as a carpenter with Jensen Homes Incorporated..

He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Henry Keranen of Wolf Lake, and by maternal grandparents, Unno and Martta Markkanen of Finland.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Aila Keranen of Dayton; brothers and sisters, Roland Keranen of Rogers, Ann (Aaron) Parks of Osseo, Mia (Eric) Skoog of Elk River, Riitta (Hannu) Huhdanpaa of Plymouth, John Keranen of Carbondale, Colo., Saara (Leo) Loukusa of Marysville, Wash., Risto Keranen and Marita Keranen, all of Osseo; nieces and nephews, Emily Parks, David, Ingrid and Loren Skoog, Sonja Huhdanpaa and Ellie Loukusa; paternal grandmother, Hilda Keranen of Wolf Lake; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rev. Michael McGlauchlin

Services for Rev. Michael McGlachlin, 49, of Edina, pastor of St. Timothy's Church, Maple Lake, and former pastor of St. Walburga of Fletcher and St. Martin's of Rogers, were Friday, June 29, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Grace, Edina.

Burial was at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, White Bear Lake.

Rev. McGlauchlin also served at St. Wenceslaus, New Prague and the Cathedral of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy McGlauchlin; sister, Susan McGlauchlin; also survived by Amy Carter; three nieces and three nephews; Therese Beaulieu; aunt, Lois (Bernard) Hanson; cousins, Dr. Gregory Hanson and Stephen Hanson; many other loving relatives and friends.

Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Good Counsel, 2076 St. Anthony Ave., St. Paul.

Joanne Sawatzke

Services for Joanne Marie Sawatzke, 66, of Rockford were Thursday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 20000 County Road 10, in Corcoran.

Father George R. Kinney was the celebrant and interment was at St. Thomas Cemetery.

Her nine sons served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Sawatzke died early Sunday, June 24, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 13, 1935 in Virginia, the daughter of Melvin C. and Virginia Olsen Harwood. On Nov. 17, 1951, Joanne Harwood and George E. Sawatzke were joined in holy marriage in Mason City, Iowa.

God blessed their marriage with 11 children. They owned and operated Rockford Cabinet & Woodwork. She was a faithful member of The Church of St. Thomas The Apostle in Corcoran and formerly belonged to the Rockford Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by parents, Melvin C. and Virginia Harwood and a sister, Gerri Harris.

Survivors include her husband George (Smokey) Sawatzke; children, Richard (Roberta) Sawatzke of Loretto, Ronald Sawatzke of Rockford, Randall Sawatzke of Northfield, Rodney (Kathy) Sawatzke of Monticello, Roger Sawatzke of Rockford and fiancee Shari, Rocklyn (Joyce) Sawatzke of Emily, Robert (Dawn) Sawatzke of Albertville, Russell Sawatzke of Rockford, Renee (Ronnie) Bianchi of Big Lake, Rhonda Peterson of Albertville and Fiancee Bob and Ralph Sawatzke of Rockford and fiancee Susan; 22 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers and a sister, John (Cheryl) Harwood of Watertown, James (Connie) Harwood of Maple Grove and Judy Harwood of Chatsworth, Calif.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.

Carol Jane Theisen

Services for Carol Jane Theisen, 63, of Delano, were Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at St. Mary's of Czestochowa in Delano.

Rev. James Livingston officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Theisen, Randy Theisen, David Socher, David Theisen, Gary Janicula and Michael Mense.

Mrs. Theisen died peacefully Friday, June 22, 2001, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 29, 1938 in Franklin Township, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Motzko) Janicula. She was married to Harold Theisen.

Mrs. Theisen was a lifelong member, receiving all sacraments at St. Mary's of Czestochowa. She was also a co-owner and secretary/treasurer of Gridor Construction, Inc. for 21 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Clara Motzko Janicula; sister, Lorraine Meehan; sister-in-law, Lorraine Janicula and brother-in-law, Arnold Mense.

Mrs. Theisen is survived by husband, Harold; sons, Greg (Connie), Brad and Brent (Amy); grandchildren, Jason, David, Patrick, Kate, Ben and Tom; brothers, James (Joyce) Janicula and Marvin Janicula; sisters, Patricia Janicula and Elaine Mense; many relatives and friends.

Kurt O. Topel

Services for Kurt O. Topel, 98, of Watertown, formerly of Delano, were Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Pastor Paul Marggraf officiated and interment was in Watertown Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Timothy Topel, Darin Goulet, Alden Lange, Ronald Ketcher, Wayne Block and Burton Ramthun.

Mr. Topel died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown. He was born March 29, 1903 to Ruldolph and Johannah (Schirr) Topel in Franklin Township. He was married to Esther Emma Barfknecht.

The couple farmed outside of Delano until sometime in the 1930s. From 1940 until 1958, they owned a farm by Watertown. Mr. Topel worked in the Watertown Canning Factory, National Tea in Hopkins and the Powell Candy Company in Hopkins.

He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano for most of his life and enjoyed being part of the choir for many years. He, along with his wife, were honored to be the king and queen of the seniors in Wright County in the 1970s.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Esther and 11 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Topel is survived by son, Stanley (Mae) Topel of Michigan; daughter, Vivian Goulet of St. Louis Park; grandchildren, Mark, Timothy, Deborah, Lisa and Darin; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lydia Wandersee of Delano and Ethel Block of Montrose and sisters-in-law, Valeria Topel of Delano, Virginia Barfknecht of Buffalo, Lillian Barfknecht of Watertown, Emma Brandenburg, Cora Lange of Mound and Hilda Ketcher of Mound.

Mike Tuchtenhagen

Services for Mike Tuchtenhagen, 53, of Montrose, were Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Mr. Tuchtenhagen died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Brainerd, the son of Edwin and Lorraine (Ganz) Tuchtenhagen. He was married to Sandra Meuleners.

He is survived by wife, Sandy; daughter, Lori Smith; sons, Michael (Karen) O'Connell, Patrick O'Connell and Christopher (Lisa) O'Connell; grandchildren, Briana, Hayley, Kent, Kelly, Georgette, Michael, Jr. and Lauren; mother, Lorraine Betzol and brother, Pat (Diane) Tuchtenhagen.

Roger Van Winkle

Services for Roger Wayne (Rip) Van Winkle, 63, of Rockford were conducted Tuesday, June 26, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

Pastor Therese Brownson officiated.

Burial was at Long Lake Cemetery in rural Appleton, Minn. Colleen Johnson was the organist for the service.

Mr. Van Winkle died Friday, June 22, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born Feb. 22, 1938 in Appleton, the son of Cecil and Esther Melin Van Winkle.

Roger Van Winkle and Eunice Hanson were joined in holy marriage Aug. 7, 1956 in Appleton. God blessed their marriage with three sons. Eunice Van Winkle preceded her husband accidentally on Feb. 19, 1980.

Mr. Van Winkle was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover and formerly belonged to the Hanover Lions Club. He was employed at North Tech, Inc., in Maple Grove as a tool maker.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Van Winkle was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marcella.

Survivors include sons, Rodney Van Winkle of Minneapolis, Ricky (Kim) Van Winkle of Littleton, Colo. and Robbie (Mielsa) Van Winkle of Universal City, Texas; a granddaughter, Shannon (Richard) Bryon; grandsons Riley and Roger Van Winkle; great grandson Gage Bryon; sister, Aljean (Mark) Loving of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
