Robert Gagne

Services for Robert Louis Gagne Sr., 93, of Hamel, were Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Interment at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Cemetery. The service was officiated by Rev. Stan Mader.

He died May 31 in Minneapolis.

Mr. Gagne was born Nov. 19, 1907, in Hamel. He was an ombudsman for Senior Services for the city of Minneapolis and member of the fourth degree Knights of Columbus.

He is survived wife, Agnes "Mollie" Gagne; sons, Robert L. Gagne Jr. and wife, Marilyn, and David Gagne and wife, Lauri Krouse; daughter, Mary Gagne; grandchildren, Sue, Cindy, Jim, Emily and Ben; great-grandchildren, Craig, Robby, Caroline, Mac and Maddie; nephew, James P. Maloney and wife, Gerry; and members of the Solem and Gauger families.

He was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Jennie (Hennessy) Gagne; and first wife, Alice Gagne.

Gladys Glessing-Stolka

Services for Gladys Opal Glessing-Stolka, 72, were Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.

Rev. Michael Nirva officiated and interment was in the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Philip Sexton, Rick Cochran, Jeff Mapes, Brent Cochran, Mark Cochran and Steve Cochran.

Mrs. Glessing-Stolka died Sunday, June 3, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. She was born April 20, 1929, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Roy and Amelia (Drawert) Cochran. She was baptized May 26, 1929, and confirmed April 2, 1944, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.

She married Lloyd Glessing Nov. 6, 1946, at St. James Church. The couple had three children. As a member of St. James, Mrs. Glessing-Stolka became active in the LWML. After moving to Delano, she was married to Edward Stolka Feb. 5, 1983, in their home by a Justice of the Peace. Mrs. Glessing-Stolka enjoyed gardening, bird watching and playing with the grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Amelia Cochran; brothers, Gaylen and Gibson Cochran; sisters, Delores Sexton and Gloria Asplin; sister-in-law, Donna Cochran; brothers-in-law, Erwin Sexton and Harold Asplin and an infant son.

She is survived by husband, Edward Stolka; children, Gail Sherrer, Denise Glessing-Dyreson and Dennis Glessing; step-children, Doug Stolka, Annette Bendtsen and Frank Stolka; brothers, Gordon Cochran of Howard Lake and Ronnie (Arlene) Cochran of Glenwood; sisters, Karen (Rob) Duraine of McGregor, Lois Berg and William Haavisto of Cokato; grandchildren, Tracy Silva, Troy Sherrer, Crystal Sherrer, Jared Glessing, Jessica Glessing, Dan Nass, Heather, Hilary and Shane Dyreson, Brent Stolka, Joseph and Matthew Bendtsen, Kevin Stolka and Nathan and Brandon Price; great-grandchild, Brenden Silva; sisters-in-law, Darlene Cochran and Lorraine Peterson; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Lois Hamacher

Services for Lois Elaine Hamacher, 66, of Becker were Monday, June 4, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Becker United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Kitchell officiating.

Some of her grandsons served as casket bearers: Weston Knutson, Luke Blomquist, Dustin Wacker, Travis Hamacher, Nathan Hamacher, Colton Fleahman, Jesse Hamacher and Jeremy Hamacher.

Interment was in the Becker Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamacher died Thursday evening, May 31, at Monticello-Big Lake Hospital.

She was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Becker to Earl and Lucille (Guentzel) Hubbard. She grew up in Becker and was united in marriage to Douglas M. Hamacher on Nov. 11, 1950. They later divorced. Lois was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Becker for many years. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Albertville for 13 years until 1979, when she sold her Albertville shop to her daughter Sue and then opened a small shop in her home in Becker. She was a school bus driver for the Becker Public Schools from 1979 until her death.

She is survived by sons, Douglas M. (Janet) Hamacher, Dennis M. (Elaine) Hamacher, Randy L. (Lynn) Hamacher, and Ralph C. (Anita) Hamacher, all of Becker; daughters, Susan J. (Robert) Wacker of Albertville, Debbie J. (Douglas) Knutson of Becker, Carolyn E. Blomquist of Becker, and Nancy A. (Brock) Fleahman of Woodlawn, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lavern (Sonny) Hubbard, Kenneth Hubbard, and Dale Hubbard; and sisters Shirley Cox, Colleen Peterson, Carol Purdy, and Sharon Doseman. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffrey, who died at birth; and son-in-law, David Blomquist.

Grace Hogan

Services for Grace Elizabeth Hogan, 83, of Maple Grove were Saturday, June 9, 2001, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave. N.

Cremation at Lakewood Cemetery.

Mrs. Hogan died Monday, June 4, in Austin, Texas. She was born July 26, 1917, in Fairdale, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred.

Survivors include sons, John (Lois) Hogan and Dennis (Suzanne) Hogan; daughter, Judith (Larry) Duncan; brother, Lawrence Reilly; sisters, Esther Carlson and Ruth Woollett; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Linda James

Services for Linda J. (Ouellette) James, 50, of Maple Grove formerly of Northeast Minneapolis were Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Sunset Funeral Home in Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by husband, Gordon and father, Frank.

She is survived by children, Jason (Shena) Ouellette, Gina (Ed) Novalany, Heather James, and Holly (Glen) King; grandchildren, Trenton, Brittany, Nickoll, Leah, Aubrey and Gordon; mother, Cleo Ouellette; brothers and sisters, Bill (Sandy) Ouellette, Nancy (Brian) Wayne, Sandie (Pat) Breitkreutz, Frank (Stacy) Ouellette, Mike (Anita) Ouellette, and Bob (Rose) Ouellette; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorials preferred.

Marvin Otto Knickrehm

Services for Marvin Otto Knickrehm, 56, of Delano were Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano.

Pastor Judith Hazen officiated and interment was in the Delano Public Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Kalvik, Brent Knickrehm, Wanda Holker, Brian Hamann, Deborah Nichols, Craig Ferguson and Tony Ferguson.

Mr. Knickrehm died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 16, 1945 in Mitchell, S.D., the son of Otto W. and Alma R. (Gerlach) Knickrehm. He was married to Carol Ann Kalvik.

He was preceded in death by wife, Carol, who died Sept. 7, 2000; and his parents.

Mr. Knickrehm is survived by daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Theiste of Plymouth and Tara Knickrehm of St. Michael; granddaughter, Averie Theiste; brothers, Harold Knickrehm, Norman (Sondra) of Mitchell, S.D. and Kenneth (Kay) of Wichita, Kan.; sisters, Violet Knickrehm of St. Louis, Mo., Edna Knickrehm of Seattle, Wash., Wilma (Richard) Ferguson of Artesian, S.D., Irene (Ray) Hamann of Ortonville, Minn., and Eilene (Jim) Woods of Festus, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gerald Walter Kohnen

Services for Gerald Walter Kohnen, 69, of Paynesville were Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe.

Rev. Leo Leisen officiated. Burial was in the St. Agnes Parish Cemetery in Roscoe.

Mr. Kohnen died Friday, June 1, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.

He was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Minneapolis to Walter and Florence (Wachtler) Kohnen. He was a 1949 graduate of Mound High School. He farmed in Maple Plain and Rockford.

He married Alicia R. Steffens on June 14, 1952, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. He was employed by REA Express for seven years. He moved to a farm in Zion Township, Stearns County, in March 1973. Since 1992 Mr. and Mrs. Kohnen have spent their winter in Mesa, Ariz. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish and Mission Group.

Survivors include his wife, Alicia, of Paynesville; children, Mary Ellen Bechtold and her husband Arnold of Rogers, Debra Novacek and her husband James of South Haven, Donald and his wife Carol of Paynesville, Karen Fleischhacker and her husband Joe of Watkins, James and his wife Dotzie of Paynesville, Robert and his wife Tina of Paynesville, and Terri Fleischhacker and her husband Glen of Freeport; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Taylor and her husband LeRoy of Hamel, and Diane Keeley and her husband Jim of New Hope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Brenda Kohnen.

Colleen Erickson

Services for Colleen Erickson, 52, of Onamia, were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Onamia, with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.

She was born Aug. 5, 1949, in St. Cloud, to Mae Sneberger and the late Nicollas Vandalen. She worked at Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Onamia, and enjoyed her dogs "Babies" and western music.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nicollas Vandalen, and her brother, Ronald Vandalen.

Mrs. Erickson is survived by her mother, Mae Sneberger; husband Joe of Rice; daughters, Lisa Jedlicki of Milaca and Janita Rassmussen (Troy) of Jordan; sisters, Marilyn Neprude (Lee) of Champlin, Debbie Davis (Mike) of Warrenton, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Gallus

Services for Shirley Ann Gallus (Keeler), 71, of Montrose were Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown.

Mrs. Gallus died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001.

One of Mrs. Gallus' focused passions was to be an advocate for mentally challenged individuals. She saw many of her goals come to be realized. She also was an active participant on her century dairy farm. She was an avid quarter horse and Palomino breeder, was an active 4-H leader for more than 30 years and in later years enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching. Mrs. Gallus also loved her chickens, her donkey, Ruby, and her dog, Keno. Mrs. Gallus will always be held in the hearts that love her most; her husband, Ralph, children, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Dudley and Mary Keeler; brother, James Keeler; granddaughter, Katherine Hickman and great-granddaughter, Margaret Swartzer.

She is survived by devoted husband of 52 years, Ralph; children, Molly, Sandy (Tony) Swartzer, Joy (Jim) Hickman, Joseph (Sue) Gallus, Debbie (Jeff) Becklund, Shirley (Tim) Kallunki, Shawn (Ken) Karl and John (Bev) Gallus; grandchildren, Jacob (Alison) Swartzer, Nicole (Chad) Olson, Bridget (Chris) Matzdorf, Erin, Meagan and Patrick Swartzer, Chuck (Deni) Hickman, Beau Hickman, Rachel (Jason) Mann, Joe (Jenny) Gallus, Gretchen (Dan) O'Brien, Josh Gallus, Dan Cebulla, Mike (Brooke) Cebulla, Samm and Summer Becklund, Briita and Garrett Kallunki, Cheree, Zachary and Samuel Karl and Chris Gallus; great-grandchildren, Harriet and Elisabeth Matzdorf, Katherine Swartzer, Justine Rademacher, B. "Jack" Hickman, Trent and Tommy Mann and Joe and Jake Gallus; sisters, Mary Becker and Carol Keeler; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Adickes, Laverne Johnson, Marge Jerde and Betty (Marvin) Rogers.

Josephine Hughes

Services for Josephine C. Hughes, 79, of Plymouth, were Thursday Nov. 29, at the Church of The Holy Name of Jesus in Medina.

Interment was at St Anne's Cemetery, Hamel.

Mrs. Hughes died Sunday, Nov. 25, at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale. She was an active member of Holy Name Church in Medina, involved with Store to Door and a member of the Hamel VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by son, Paul (Dorothy) Hughes of Rogers; daughter, Alicia (Gib) Yakesh of Brooklyn Center, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, George Favorite; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, John; sons, Patrick and John Jr.; her parents; six brothers and one sister.

Joseph Jordan

Services for Joseph H. Jordan, 81, of Loretto were Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Loretto.

Interment was at the church cemetery.

Mr. Jordan was a veteran of WWII in North Africa, Italy and France and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

He is survived by wife, Marcella; children, Nancy Bambenek (Jim), Lee Jordan, Janice Jordan, Jackie Frisvold, Jeanne Hanson (Timothy), Mark (Roberta), Russell (Debbie), Chris Jordan, Lisa Quast (Jeff), Anthony (Mary) and Annie Staelgraeve (David); 19 grandchildren; brothers, Frank, John, Leo and Vernie Jordan; sisters, Mary Begin and Betty Jacobson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Daniel; two grandchildren and four brothers.

Clarence Keegel

Services for Clarence E. Keegel, 82, of St. Michael were at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Peter Richards officiated at the funeral service.

Interment with military rites was Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mr. Keegel died Friday, Nov. 23, at his residence.

He was born in Platte, S.D., October 15, 1919, the son of John and Cora Johnson Keegel.

He honorably served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Mr. Keegel was employed for many years as a truck driver and retired in 1982. He formerly drove for Sterling Cartage Trucking Co. and was a retired member of Teamsters Local 544.

He is survived by children, Tom (Pat) Keegel of Brooklyn Park and Diane (Chuck) Lebowski of St. Michael; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; and by his first wife, Helen.

Curtis Klatt

Services for Curtis R. Klatt, 43, of Dayton were Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Dare's Funeral Home, 805 Main St. Elk River.

Mr. Klatt was born June 9, 1958 and died Thursday, Nov. 29.

Survivors include his parents Naomi Smith and Richard and Alice Klatt; significant other, Shelia Karen; daughter, Tami; son, Bradley; sisters, Michelle, Penny and Jackie; brothers, Josh and John; grandmother, Fern Smith; godmothers, Geraldine Smith and Ardell McLane and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials preferred.

Kermit Nielsen

Services for Kermit Nielsen, 83, of Loretto were Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corcoran.

Rev. George R. Kinney was the celebrant and interment followed at St. Jeanne De Chantel Cemetery. Elijah Nielsen, Paul Hermann and Jason Hermann served as honorary casket bearers. Bryan Dalbec, Michael Dalbec, Joshua Nielsen, Kurt Nielsen, Joseph Nielsen, Gerald Mengelkoch, Bradley Mengelkoch, and Joel Mengelkoch served as casket bearers.

He was born in Cokato March 22, 1918, to Jens and Marie (Hansen) Nielsen. On Nov. 9, 1938, he was joined in Holy marriage to Jeanne A. (Lucier) at St. Jeanne De Chantel Catholic Church near Corcoran. Before Mrs. Nielsen's death in 1997, they were married for 58 years and were blessed with six children.

Mr. Nielsen farmed, raising Hampshire pigs and other livestock. After farming he started his own business in building pole barns and selling Raider snowmobiles. He enjoyed his leisure time taking care of his garden, growing large muskmelons, making woodcrafts, playing cards, going to dances and doing some traveling. He was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Corcoran.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Charles (Joan) Nielsen of Apple Valley and Kenneth (Jacqueline) Nielsen of Apple Valley; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara (John) Mengelkoch of Hamel, Antoinette Dalbec of Elk River, Sharon Hermann of Loretto, and Deborah Nielsen (friend Bruce Bjorklund) of Buffalo; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Delores) Nielsen of Hamel; sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Fowler of Fallbrook, Calif., Doris (Dasen) Dorweiler of Hamel, Helen Rice of Minot, N.D., and Verna Kirk of St. Joseph, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Nielsen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne (Lucier); parents, Jens and Marie Nielsen; an infant daughter Elizabeth; two infant grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Helen Nielsen; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Fowler, James Rice and Leslie Kirk.
