Dorothy H. Gutknecht
Services for Dorothy H. Gutknecht, 65, of Buffalo were Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenfield.
Rev. Dennis Strong officiated at the service and the interment followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
David Farstad was the organist. The congregational hymns for the service were "Amazing Grace," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "I'm But a Stranger Here," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."
Allen Gutknecht, Dan Gutknecht, Gary Gutknecht, Mark Gutknecht, David Duff and Paul Duff served as honorary casket bearers.
Terry Schleif, Mark Tiemann, Daryl Schleif, Ken Schleif, Dave Beise, Doug Beise, and Tim Bechtold served as casket bearers.
Mrs. Gutknecht died Friday, July 5, at her residence. She was born in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, July 18, 1936, the daughter of Walter and Lillian Hohenstein Harff.
She was baptized Aug. 2, 1936, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenfield, April 2, 1950.
On August 10, 1957, Dorothy Harff was joined in holy marriage to Richard Gutknecht at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenfield. God blessed their marriage with a daughter, Lisa, and a son, Steven.
Mrs. Gutknecht was a member of the Salem Lutheran Ladies Aid. She also loved flowers, cooking and baking, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by children, Lisa (Scott) Anderson and Steve (Tracy) Gutknecht, all of Buffalo; grandchildren, Kellen, Katelyn and Mitchell Anderson, and Brittany, Emma and Mallory Gutknecht; sisters, Caroline (Willmar) Bechtold of New Hope, Marlys (Howard) Schleif of Rogers, Kathleen (Ronald) Tiemann of Buffalo, Renata (Jack) Russek of Delano, and Rita (Duane) Beise of Loretto; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur (Doris) Gutknecht, Walter (Darleen) Gutknecht, Carl (Roberta) Gutknecht Jr., Elroy (Florence) Gutknecht, all of Buffalo and Lillian (Edwin) Duff of Sun City West, Ariz., also many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gutknecht Feb. 22, 2001, and her parents.
Jack Fischer
Services for Jack R. Fischer, 81, of St. Cloud were Friday, July 19, 2002, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.
He is survived by wife, Helen E. "Tudy" (Sandell) Fischer; sons, John R. (Donna) of Loveland, Ohio, James D. (Jan) of Plymouth, J. Patrick (Janet) of Champlin; daughter, Susanne J. of Eagan; brother, James N. (Betty) Fischer of Edina; and sister, Janet M. (Paul) Olson of Richfield.
Mark Koenig
Services for Mark Felix Koenig, 48, of Wayzata were at the Catholic Church of St. Martin in Rogers Friday, July 12, 2002, at 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Tom Margevicius was the celebrant and interment followed at the St. Martin Cemetery, Rogers.
Destiny Dusosky, Stephanie Koenig and Andrina Koenig served as honorary casket bearers.
Ryan Nelson, Phillip Lahn, Dale Koenig, John Koenig, Adam Obert and Charles Dehn served as casket bearers.
Mr. Koenig died Monday, July 8, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
He was born in Golden Valley Feb. 16, 1954, the son of Paul T. and Evelyn Lindenfelser Koenig.
On Dec. 2, 1972, Mark Koenig was joined in holy marriage to Corinne Anna Lahn at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dayton, Minn.
He was a property manager of apartments and also engaged in real estate sales for 13 years. He enjoyed remodeling.
He was baptized, made his first communion, was confirmed, and had his wedding reception at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Rogers.
He is survived by wife, Corinne Anna Koenig; sons, Mark Anthony (Wendy) Koenig of Maple Grove and Paul Howard Koenig of Wayzata; daughters, Heidi (Robert) Dusosky of Coon Rapids, Tammy Koenig of Fridley and Ariel Koenig of Wayzata; eight grandchildren; mother, Evelyn Koenig and step-father, Morris of Elk River; a brother, Gary (Elaine) Koenig of Maple Lake; a sister, Susan (John) Kemmetmueller of Rogers; and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Koenig was preceded in death by his father, Paul T. Koenig Aug. 27, 1996.
Joseph F. Hayes
Services for Joseph F. Hayes, 76, of Delano were Friday, June 7, 2002, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.
Deacon Loren Yager presided at the prayer service with a fireman's walk through and prayer by the Delano Fire Department. Fr. Michael Miller officiated at the Mass and interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
Pallbearers were Tom Lynch, Mark Hayes, Jim Hayes, Brad Hayes, Mike Hayes and Rich Hayes.
Mr. Hayes died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. He was born June 25, 1925, to Andrew H. and Josephine (Rogers) Hayes in Montrose.
He married Marian Wetter Aug. 9, 1951, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.
Mr. Hayes served his country in the U.S. Army and reserves as a sergeant. He served 20 years on the Delano Fire Department. He was also employed for 30 years at the Delano Granite Works and 12 years for the Delano School District as a custodian.
He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing with his buddies and family. Mr. Hayes was a sports fan, following the Delano High School athletic teams as well as the Twins and Vikings.
He was known for being a very patient and kind, loving man.
He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Richard and Kevin; sister, Virginia Lynch and brother-in-law, Edward Lynch.
He is survived by wife, Marian of 50 years; sons, David (Jean) and Donald (Jean); daughter, Debra (Chris) Conzet; granddaughters, Melissa, Cynthia and Alycia Hayes; brothers, Clifford (Jean), Maurice (Marion) and Eugene (Janet); sister, Patricia (George) Schaar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Hayes, Shirley Hayes, Gordy and Marilyn Wetter, Edward and Linda Wetter and Rich and Connie Wetter.
Frances Johnson
A memorial service for Frances Elizabeth (Betty) Johnson (Evers) 84, of Osseo was Sunday, July 28, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Steeple Pointe Residence, 625 Central Ave., Osseo.
Private family burial was at Hillside Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, July 24.
Survivors include her husband, Carl H. Johnson; daughters, Barb (Jerry) Johnson, and Nancy (Bud) Opitz; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Walt (Evi) Johnson; sister-in-law, Iris Evers; and several nieces and nephews.
Vernice Landeck
Services for Vernice Raye Landeck, 74, of Buffalo were Wednesday, July 1, 2002, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Pastor Michael Barlow officiated at the service and the interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
Janet Beise was the organist. The congregational hymns were "Jerusalem the Golden," "Beautiful Savior," and "Abide With Me."
Dennis Leerssen, Lowell Strehler, David Leerssen, Craig Strehler, Dean Strehler, and Jeff Vergin served as casket bearers.
She died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Buffalo Hospital. She was born in Rockford Township Oct. 25, 1927, the daughter of Charles A. and Alvina Leerssen Landeck. She was Baptized at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford Jan. 8, 1928. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church April 6, 1941.
She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Buffalo and St. Cloud for 20 years.
When she was in good health she enjoyed knitting.
She is survived by a son: Charles (JoEllen) Landeck of Buffalo; grandchildren: Nicole (Erik) Senty, and Christopher Landeck; great-grandchildren: Garett, Cody, and Samantha Senty; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
John Leonard
Services for John Lloyd Leonard, 15 months, of St. Michael were Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 County Rd. 24, Medina.
John died Friday, July 5, from congenital heart complications.
He is survived by parents, Brian and Jenny Leonard; grandparents, John and Shirley Johnson and Lloyd and Jerre Leonard; great-grandmothers, Mary Johnson and Betty Neu; aunts and uncles, April and Becky Johnson, David (Rita) Leonard, Leonice (Curt) Henning, Jeannine (Robert) Kurvers, Paul (Jill) Leonard; 14 cousins and other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by uncle, Craig Leonard.
A special thank you was sent to the entire Minneapolis Children's PICU staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the John Lloyd Leonard Memorial Foundation.
Leahnette Anna Lindholm
Services for Leahnette Anna Lindholm, 82, of Delano were Friday, June 7, 2002, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baxter.
Rev. Arthur Frenz officiated.
Mrs. Lindholm died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Delano the daughter of Elmer and Anna (Mutterer) Johnson. She grew up on her parents' farm near Delano and attended elementary school and high school in Delano. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano and she attended St. Cloud State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in elementary education.
Mrs. Lindholm initially taught in an elementary school in the Welker School District. Then she taught for a time in the Redwood Falls School District. The majority of her teaching career was spent in the Delano Public Schools, where she taught sixth grade for many years before retiring in 1978.
She was married to Oliver Lindholm June 13, 1942, in Delano. They enjoyed nearly 60 years of marital happiness until Mr. Lindholm's death Feb. 17 of this year. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Following the retirement from their work in Delano, the couple moved to the lake property on Agate Lake in Lakeshore, Minn. They spent 22 enjoyable years there at the place, which they affectionately called "Our Blessed Retreat." They moved to an apartment at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd Aug. 1, 2001. On Jan. 18, 2002, she moved to the Almond House where she lived until entering the hospital May 30.
Mrs. Lindholm was a vibrant, active woman who lived her Christian faith and showed special interest in her family and church. At Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano, she was active in Ladies Aid, choir and DMLC Auxiliary. At Christ Lutheran Church in Baxter, she was active in Dorcas Society, Altar Committee and choir. She enjoyed swimming, hiking, reading, hunting agates, cross-country skiing, latchhook and playing games. She enjoyed traveling to scenic spots, especially to the North Shore of Lake Superior.
She was preceded in death by husband, Oliver; brother, Gerald Johnson; and her parents.
She is survived by sons, Oliver (Betty) Lindholm, Jr. of McFarland, Wis., and Joel (Dawn) Lindholm of Delano; daughter, Judith (Donald) Gurgel of Appleton, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth (Clarence) Pauling of Cambridge.
Donald Lyman
Services for Donald Ervin Lyman, 60, of Dayton, were Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Ramsey, with burial in Life Memorial Gardens.
He died Monday, July 15, 2002, after a 15 year battle with malignant melanoma.
He is survived by loving wife, Karen; son, Jason; daughter, Lisa (Oliver) Berroa; grandson, Landon; sister, Barbara (Donald) Laitinen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Roger Wenner
Services for Roger W. Wenner, 59, of Rockford, were Thursday, July 18, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment followed at Holy Name Cemetery.
Mr. Wenner died Sunday, July 14, 2002.
He was preceded in death by father, Greg; loving husband and father.
He is survived by wife, Karen; son, Scott (Anne); daughter, Erica (Chad); mother, Leona; brother Jack (Rosie); sisters, Joan Leuer (Jerry), Shirley Mengelkoch, (Hugh); and many other loving relatives and friends.
Deanna Allen
Allen Deanna C. Allen, 34, of Maple Grove died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in Minnesota.
Services were Saturday, June 29, at Congdon Funeral Home, Zion, Ill.
Memorials preferred to American Diabetes Association.
She was an Information Systems Specialist with General Mills Corp.
She was preceded in death by father, Verne C. Allen; paternal grandparents, Nina and Ralph Allen; maternal grandfather, Howard Drost; and by uncles, Barry Drost and Duane Allen.
Survivors include her mother, Terry Allen of Antioch; sister, Melissa (Patrick) Werve and niece, Alexis Werve, all of Round Lake; grandmother, Gladys Drost of Zion, Ill.; aunts and uncles, Marcia and Joe Miller of Zion, Ill., Julie and Robert Walters and Billie Allen, all of Englewood, Fla. and Lynn Georgeson of Antioch; and numerous cousins.
Eugene Bastian
Services for Eugene "Red" Bastian, 72, of Helena, Mont., were Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Strike Funeral Home in Isanti.
He is survived by wife, Ruth; three sons, Michael of Princeton, David of Victoria, William of California; seven daughters, Susan Henderson of Dayton, Rose Bastian of Cologne, Carol Sandtorf of New Ulm, Julie Frevel of Hopkins, Mary Bastian of Excelsior, Kathleen Bastian of Champlin, Diane Smithwick of Minnetonka; bonus son, John Stoeber of Elmhurst, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, three bonus grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Fitzgibbons of Duluth and Joan Hodgins of Colorado.
