Edward Matzke

Services for Edward P. Matzke 73, of Osseo were Tuesday, July 2, 2002 with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park.

Burial was at St. Vincent's Cemetery.

Mr. Matzke was born Jan. 19, 1929 in Minneapolis. He died Saturday, June 29, in Osseo.

He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Rose.

Survivors included his wife, Colleen; children, Cindy (Todd) Martineau, Keith (Audrey) Matzke, Kevin Matzke, Laurie (Brad) Tripp, Kelly (Adriana) Matzke and six grandchildren.

Hoyle Merry

Services for Hoyle (Pat) C. Merry, 84, of Osseo, formerly of St. Louis Park, will be Thursday, June 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave. N., Brooklyn Park.

Private interment Ft. Snelling. Visitation will be tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Park Chapel, Wooddale at Excelsior Blvd. and one hour prior to mass Thursday.

Mr. Merry made his home at Berkshire Residence in Osseo for the past 11 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia (Richard) Swanson, Donna Petras and Dorothy (Scott) Lakeberg; son-in-law, Joe Petras; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, June LeDuc; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Perry Moberg

Services for Perry Moberg, 56, of Hibbing were Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Hibbing.

He was a 1965 graduate of Spring Lake Park High School and attended the University of Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; two daughters; four grandchildren; father; six brothers and a sister, including Randy (Mavis) of St. Paul, Sandra (Ron) Moberg-Walls of Champlin, and Ron (Kerry) of Forest Lake; brother-in-law, Chuck Anderson (Jo) of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carol N. Newton

Services for Carol N. Newton, 83, of Loretto, formerly of south Minneapolis, were Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Brian J. Fier officiated at the funeral service.

Marlene Mohwinkel was the organist and Trudy "Toots" Sebring was the vocalist. "On Eagles' Wings" and "Amazing Grace" were sung as congregational hymns.

Honorary casket bearers were Dick Cooney, David Gay, Edward Rudquist, Earl Rokala and Dale Sieg.

James, Matthew, Daniel, Joseph, Michael and Andrew Higgins, Susie Brun and Michelle Zilmer served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Newton died Thursday, June 6, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Richfield the daughter of Carl and Nilsene Indseth Gisselman.

On April 11, 1942, Carol Gisselman and Eugene Newton were joined in holy marriage in Minneapolis. God blessed their marriage with a daughter.

She owned and operated Newton Office in south Minneapolis for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn (Stephen) Higgins of Loretto; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Newton of Wabasha; grandchildren, James (Natassa) Higgins, Susie (Dan) Brun, Michelle (Denis) Zilmer, Michael (Beth) Higgins, Matthew Higgins, Daniel (Jenny) Higgins, Joseph (Katie) Higgins and Andrew Higgins; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gisselman and Sheila Vogland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Newton is preceded in death by husband, Eugene Newton, a son, Eugene "Skipper" Newton; her parents; a sister and brothers, Rachel, Henry and Alvin Gisselman; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Swanson and Patience Newton.

Scott Nuy

Services for Scott D. Nuy, 28, of Champlin and formerly of the Tracy area, were Friday, June 14, 2002, at Tracy Lutheran Church. Burial was in Tracy City Cemetery.

Isabelle 'Belle' Catherine Specht

Services for Isabelle "Belle" Catherine Specht, 91, of Delano, were Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

Fr. Michael Miller officiated and interment was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Pallbearers were Douglas Stolka, Frank Stolka, Christopher Skelton, Brandan Price and Brent Stolka.

Mrs. Specht died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born May 27, 1911, in Waubun, Minn., to Samuel and Barbara (Miller) Blair. She married Alfred B. Specht July 4, 1932, in Mahnomen, Minn. They made their home in Waubun, farming and raising their family. She was widowed in 1967and moved to Detroit Lakes. She resided there until she turned 87 at which time she moved to Delano in order to be closer to her grandchildren.

Mrs. Specht enjoyed taking walks and the outdoors. She loved to dance. Mrs. Specht volunteered at the Detroit Lakes Senior Center serving food. She served in the Detroit Lakes Fraternal Order of Eagles. She also enjoyed spending time with her coffee club in Detroit Lakes.

Mrs. Specht is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; parents, Samuel and Barbara Blair; son, Kenneth and sisters, Anna Buhl and Victoria Anderson.

She is survived by daughter, Gloria (Leonard) Walsky of Rocklin, Calif.; grandchildren, Douglas Stolka, Annette Bendtsen and Frank Stolka and great-grandsons, Brent, Joseph, Kevin, Matthew, Nathan and Brandan.

Charles 'C.J.' Steinmetz

Services for Charles Joseph "C.J." Steinmetz, 24, of Montrose, were Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Pastor Carl L. Taylor officiated at the service.

Mr. Steinmetz died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born Dec. 7, 1977, in Robbinsdale, the son of Steven H. and Janice G. Kanz Steinmetz.

Mr. Steinmetz loved to go fishing and play practical jokes. He also enjoyed magic.

He is survived by parents, Janice (Harlan) Brandstrom of Montrose and Steven (Cindy) Steinmetz of Battle Lake; daughter, Promyse Steinmetz of Buffalo; brothers and sisters, Shawn of Montrose, Steven, Jr. of San Diego, Dawn (Mark) of River Falls, Wis., Brendakay of Buffalo, Melissa (Matt) of Stillwater, Baron (Sharalyn) of Arizona, Brett of St. Paul, Shannon of Apple Valley and Eric, Mary and Juliet, all of Arizona; grandparents, Jacqueline Engebrit of Marcell, Minn., Loretta Taggert of St. Paul, Lucille Steinmetz of Crystal, William (Helen) Kanz of New Hope and LaVera (Myron) LaRock of Brooklyn Park; special friends, Michelle Leerssen, Sarah Mulligan, Jason (Laura) Dority and Kenneth (Leslie) Frank; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a grand-nephew.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Joseph Engebrit, Harold Steinmetz and Verner Brandstrom and by nephew, Matthew Thomas-Brandstrom.

Thomas Trutnau

Services for Thomas A. Trutnau, 54, of Champlin were Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Onamia.

He was a stockbroker with John G. Kinnard, and was an avid fisherman, golfer and bowler.

Mr. Trutnau is survived by his wife, Midge; daughters, Tracy and Crystal; sister, Suzanne (Larry) Milton of Onamia; brother, David of Onamia; aunt, JoAnn (Phil) Losinski of Roseville; aunt, Ruth Anderson of Glendale, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by mother, Mary Rostamo; father, Chester Trutnau; and step-father, Don Rostamo.

Mary L. Thingvold

Services for Mary L. Thingvold, 58, of rural Buffalo were Friday, June 7, 2002, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Rev. Lloyd Hohenstein and Rev. Michael Barlow officiated. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery.

Janet Beise was the organist for the funeral service. Gary, Ronnie, Jeff, Greg and Erik Thingvold and Bryan Hansen served as honorary casket bearers. Gary Kock, Darin Kock, Mike Thingvold, Larry Thingvold, David Jacobs and Brad Thingvold served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Thingvold died Saturday, June 1, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

She was born Aug. 7, 1943, in Buffalo the daughter of Reinhold A. and Minnie B. Wakemann Vergin.

She was baptized at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford Sept. 5, 1943. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church April 14, 1957.

Mrs. Thingvold graduated from Buffalo High School in 1961. Following graduation from high school, she was employed at the ASCS office in Buffalo.

On Nov. 1, 1969, Mary L. Vergin and Dennis Thingvold were joined in holy marriage. God blessed their marriage with three children.

She worked for Minnesota Rubber from 1965 until 1980. She later worked at Greenfield Homes from 1989 until she became ill. Through the years, Mrs. Thingvold also sold Avon products and worked part-time at Dueber's Department Store in Rockford.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening and family activities.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Buffalo; children, Steven Thingvold of Rockford, Lisa Thingvold of St. Cloud and Jason Thingvold of Buffalo; a grandson, Gavin; a sister, Lillian (Donald) Kock of Winthrop; a brother, Fred (Rita) Vergin of Loretto; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Vergin, in 1962; and her father, Reinhold Vergin in 1977.

Hildegard T. "Hilde" Vieau

Services for Hildegard T. "Hilde" Vieau, 89, of Delano, were Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

Fr. Michael Miller officiated and interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Pallbearers were grandchildren Mark Hausladen, Joe Vieau, Dan Vieau, Jackie Vieau, Jodi Richardson, Jill Jaunich, Amy Vieau and Kelly Vieau.

Mrs. Vieau died Friday, June 28, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waconia. She was born Sept. 16, 1912 to William and Pauline (Dircks) Rachel in Albion Township.

She married Walter Vieau in 1938 and they farmed north of Waverly until moving to Delano in 1963.

She taught schools in a one-room school house in the early years. She later was a librarian at the city library. In addition, she taught CCD at St. Peter's as well as being a substitute teacher there. She was a historian at the Delano Senior Center and was active in the senior choir.

Mrs. Vieau was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; sister, Pearl Cruikshank and brothers, Bill and Jack Rachel. She is survived by daughter, Mary Ann (Bob) Hausladen; sons, Tom (Carolyn) Vieau, Jim (Gayle) Vieau and Ron (Chris) Vieau; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Bernice) Rachel and sister-in-law, Florence Vieau.

Cecilia Vollbrecht

Services for Cecilia Katherine "Ceil" Vollbrecht, 80, of Hanover were Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.

Jed Oliver served as honorary casket bearer.

Mrs. Vollbrecht's grandsons, Darcy Wandersee, Darin Wandersee, Matt Vollbrecht, Cam Vollbrecht, Keith Vollbrecht, Eric Vollbrecht, Josh Oliver and Dusty Davis served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Vollbrecht died Saturday, June 1, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

She was born June 6, 1921, in Frankfort Township the daughter of Mathias H. and Theresia Kessler Barthel.

Mrs. Vollbrecht graduated from Buffalo High School in 1941.

On June 5, 1943, Cecilia "Ceil" Barthel and Herbert "Pat" Vollbrecht were joined in holy marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. God blessed their marriage with six children.

Mrs. Vollbrecht is survived by children, Sandy (Richard) Wandersee of Hanover, Larry (Terri) Vollbrecht of Princeton, Mike (Anna Mae) Vollbrecht of Albertville, Susie (Dan) Oliver of Cokato and Julie (Lonnie) Davis of Hanover; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Irene) Barthel of St. Michael; four Sisters, Anna Duerr of Buffalo, Rosemary Vickerman of Maple Plain, Marie Schumacher of Buffalo and Sr. Relindus, SSND of San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, four sisters-in-law, many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pat Vollbrecht Oct. 20, 1992; a son, Clyde Vollbrecht; a granddaughter, Marcie; her parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Lilas Wallick

Services for Lilas M. Wallick, 89, of Big Lake, were Monday, June 17, 2002, at Epiphany Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Anoka.

She was born March 29, 1913, in Dayton to Alfred and Arzalea (Guimont) Corrow.

Mrs. Wallick is survived by brother, Victor Corrow, of Blaine; sister, Shirley Baker, of Big Lake; sister-in-law, Eva Corrow of Ham Lake; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wallick; parents, Alfred and Arzalea; two brothers; and one sister.
