Lisa Wagner

Services for Lisa E. Wagner, 31, Plymouth, a 1989 graduate of Osseo High School and a pilot for Mesaba Airlines, were Friday, June 21, 2002, at noon at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7180 Hemlock Ln., Maple Grove.

She died Thursday, June 13, of lung cancer. Ms. Wagner, a non-smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer April 5, 2001, and challenged the disease with determination and dignity.

She was born Sept. 21, 1970, in Staples.

After her high school graduation she accepted an appointment to U.S. Air Force Academy, but chose to complete her education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz., graduating in 1994 with a bachelor of science in aeronautical science with a minor in aviation safety. A nearly-completed master of science-aeronautical science, specializing in aviation operations, was another accomplishment in her short life. From 1994 to 1998 she was a flight instructor, assistant chief pilot and worked in Flight Standards at Embry-Riddle. She was employed June 26, 1998, as a pilot by Mesaba Airlines-Northwest Airlink. Attaining her captain's rating in March 2001, she was based in Detroit.

The American Cancer Society honored Mesaba Airlines with the 2001 Employer of the Year award for their overwhelming support of Ms. Wagner.

She was preceded in death by father, James; grandfather, Leo Deering and grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Wagner of Staples.

Survivors include her mother, Marilyn; grandmother, Leona Deering; aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her Mesaba Airlines family.

Memorial donations for the Lisa Wagner Memorial Scholarship at Embry-Riddle may be sent to David W. Stassen, 10400 Viking Dr., Suite 550, Eden Prairie, MN 55344.

Douglas Wood

Services for Douglas Evan Wood, 48, of Maple Grove will be today (Wednesday), June 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at St. James Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa.

A separate memorial service is being planned to be conducted in the Twin Cities area at a later date.

Mr. Wood died Friday, June 21, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park after a brief illness from cancer.

He was born June 5, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Paul A. Wood and Adele (O'Harrow) Wood. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout of Troop 225. He was a 1972 graduate of East High School in Sioux City and a 1976 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He had been working in the Twin Cities area for 25 years and was a staff quality engineer. He was a member of the American Society For Quality Control and a member of American Electronics Association.

He traveled widely and enjoyed visiting family and friends. He also enjoyed cats, bicycling, snowmobiling, motorcycling, fishing, cards, skiing and being outdoors.

Survivors include his mother; two brothers, Paul C. Wood of Sioux City, Iowa, and Brian and Patricia of Los Gatos, Calif.; and nephews, Anthony and David Sacco of Folsom, Calif.; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1994.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Germaine Mayo Zeglin

Services for Germaine Mayo Zeglin, 72, of Maple Plain were Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Iten Funeral Chapel in Delano.

Fr. Frank Wampach presided and interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Pallbearers were Warren Haak, Clement Matter, Rick Swanson, Bryan Miller, Gloria Swanson and Glenda Harmon.

Mrs. Zeglin died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born April 8, 1922, in Minneapolis to George V. and Teresa (Matter) Mayo.

She made doll collecting one of her passions. She was active in the Creative Doll and Toy Collectors Association. She also loved making things and was a very crafty person. She was interested in dolls, teddy bears, antiques and just about everything. Mrs. Zeglin had many friends and she loved to travel and play bridge. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Mrs. Zeglin was preceded in death by her husband, John Frederick Zeglin; and sister, Rita Johnston. She is survived by sons, John (Cathy) Zeglin and Mike Zeglin; and sister, Joan (Warren) Haak.

Veronica Zimney

Services for Veronica Zimney, 78, Champlin, were Saturday, June 15, 2002, at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, with burial in St. Vincent de Paul cemetery in Osseo.

She is survived by her husband, Leo; children, Gloria (Gary) Peterson of Anchorage, Jack (Barb) of Elk River, Janice (Ed) Sherburne of Brooklyn Park, Geri Flicek of Isanti, Mark (Carol) of Oak Grove; sisters, Cecelia Fraase of Fargo, Arlene Cegla of Fargo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arvid Ahlstrom

Services for Arvid J. "Pops" Ahlstrom, 90, of Long Lake were Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, the Catholic Church of St. George in Long Lake.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Dianne) Ahlstrom of Maple Plain, Donald (Linda) Ahlstrom of Waverly, Joseph (Lark) Ahlstrom of Rockford; daughters, Mary Walker of Sun City, Ariz., Betty (Roger) Piela of Big Lake, Gladys (Durward) Pelkey of Maple Plain, Anita (John) Gardner of Long Lake, Linda (Douglas) Calhoun of Plymouth; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Axel Ahlstrom of Delano.

He was preceded in death by wife, Bertha F.; grandchildren, Kristen Ann and Rachel Marie; and brothers, Andrew, Adolph, Albert and John Ahlstrom.

Lauren A. Horsch

Services for Lauren A. Horsch, 96, of Delano were Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

Fr. Michael Miller officiated and interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Mr. Horsch died Sept. 6, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. He was born March 20, 1906, in Franklin Township to Andrew and Margaret (Bauman) Horsch.

He married Dorothy Dunn Sept. 12, 1933, at St. Stephens Church in Anoka. He farmed his entire life west of Delano in Franklin Township on land that was homesteaded by his grandparents in 1858.

Mr. Horsch was elected constable, a position he had for more than 50 years. He also served as an election judge for more than 50 years. He was a life-long member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

He enjoyed working with the land. He was known for being a local historian. He and his family enjoyed sharing memories of the past.

Mr. Horsch was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, Sept. 25, 2001. He is survived by daughters, Betty Nicholas of Buffalo and Kathy (John) Gow of Delano; sons, Bill (Geri) Horsch of Delano and Phil (Betty) Horsch of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandsons; two step-great-grandsons; sisters, Lillian Matter and Adeline Stein and sister-in-law, Winnie LeBovsky.

Francis H. 'Franie' Miller

Services for Francis H. "Franie" Miller, 68, of Loretto were Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.

Fr. Marvin Klaers officiated and interment was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Loretto.

Mr. Miller died Sept. 6, 2002, at the Buffalo Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1933, to Lawrence and Marie (Wiesmann) Miller in Hamel.

He married Deloris M. Carstensen Sept. 17, 1955, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. The couple enjoyed 47 years of marriage and had nine children. Mr. Miller was known for being a hard worker. He worked in various types of construction, always willing to help family and friends. He was a past member of the Loretto Lions Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Marie; brothers, Elmer, Clarence and Edward; sister, Helen and granddaughter, Amanda Weege.

He is survived by wife, Deloris; children, K.C. Carstensen, Larry (Georgene) Miller, Geri (Kevin) Ruud, Lois (Jerry) Yantes, Judy (Bruce) Huikko, Lucy (Al) Weege, Richard (Bonnie) Miller, Ron (Brenda) Miller and Dan (Kim) Miller; 22 grandchildren; brothers, Wilfred (Yvonne), Ralph (Sharon), Joseph and Leonard; sisters-in-law, Marion Marsolek and Annella Miller; many nieces and nephews.

Verna M. Nelson

Services for Verna M. Nelson, 86, of Buffalo, were Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the Church of St. Francis in Buffalo.

Fr. Tom Rayar was the celebrant and interment followed at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Loretto.

Casket bearers were Chad Stutelberg, Chris Nelson, Mark Nelson, Dale Host, Scott Sanchez and Ami Anderson.

Mrs. Nelson died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at her residence. She was born Jan. 5, 1916 in Maple Plain, the daughter of Emil and Lydia Zahrandt Litfin.

She was married to Harry W. Nelson Oct. 26, 1936 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano. The couple had two children.

Mr. and Mrs. Nelson engaged in farming on Nelson Rd. south of Delano for many years. Mrs. Nelson raised chickens and sold eggs. Mr. Nelson preceded his wife in death April 25, 1996.

Mrs. Nelson was a faithful member of the Church of St. Francis in Buffalo and belonged to both Buffalo and Delano Senior Citizens. She was also a volunteer at the Senior Community Center in Buffalo and at the Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by children, Karmen (Mel) Droneck of Fountain Valley, Calif. and Lyle (Jenny) Nelson of Crosslake; grandchildren, Steve Engstrom, Mike Engstrom, Bruce (Olivia) Engstrom, Stacy (Chad) Stutelberg, Chris (Ami) Nelson, Tristin (Dale) Host, Mark Nelson and Mandy (Scott) Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Tarissa, Brandon, Jordan and Justin Host, Morgan and Nolan Stutelberg and Savannah and Alexis Sanchez; brother, Glen (Arlene) Litfin and sister, Florence Dunn, all of Delano; pets, Brandy and Tikus; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; brother, Maynard Litfin; sister, Gert Litfin; grandson, Duncan Allen Droneck and granddaughter, Debbie Pauna.

John Raddatz

Services for John L. Raddatz, Jr., of Minneapolis were Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Minneapolis.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; brother, Robert H. (Dorothy) of Chicago; cousin, Robert C. Hansen (Theresa) of Wauwatosa, Wis.; brother-in-law, John (Kathleen) Gow of Delano; sister-in-law, Helen Raddatz of Chicago; caring nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Blanche and John L. Raddatz, Sr., and brother, Richard.

Helene L. Schutte

Services for Helene L. Schutte, 83, of Corcoran were Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Rev. Steven C. Briel officiated and interment followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Eric Schutte, Adam Schutte, Peter Schutte, Paul Schutte, Aaron Schutte and Dean Schutte.

Mrs. Schutte died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at St. Louis Park Plaza.

She was born April 7, 1919, in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, the daughter of Ernest and Mary Bechtold Hohenstein.

Mrs. Schutte was baptized May 4, 1919, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood Township. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 9, 1933, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Her confirmation verse was I Timothy 4:8.

On June 16, 1946, Helene Hohenstein and Donald Schutte were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood. God blessed their marriage with four children. Mr. and Mrs. Schutte engaged in dairy farming in Corcoran for many years.

She was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove and was a past officer and a former longtime member of St. John's Ladies Aid.

Mrs. Schutte is survived by her husband, Donald W. Schutte; children, Gary (Paula) Schutte of Northfield, Philip (LuAn) Schutte of Corcoran, Paula (Jerry) Shetka of Plymouth and Charlotte (Steve) Torgerson of Buffalo; nine grandchildren, Peter, Greta and Greg Schutte; Mark (Rachael) Shetka and Mike Shetka; Jamie and Aaron Schutte; Christina and Joy Torgerson; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Margaret Schutte of Corcoran, Oliver and Patricia Schutte of San Diego and Caroline Schutte of Corcoran; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Schutte is preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Lorenz E. Hohenstein.

David Schroeder

Services for David Carl Schroeder, 65, of Monticello and formerly of Alexandria, were 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Rev. Michael W. Trask officiated and interment followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

David L. Schroeder, Dick Rasmussen, Jim Meier, Paul Eull, Don Soderlund and Roland Wentz served as casket bearers.

Mr. Schroeder died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at his residence, after a year long battle with Leukemia.

He was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Montevideo, the son of the Rev. Erwin and Edna Maas Schroeder.

He was baptized Dec. 19, 1936, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Mr. Schroeder was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corcoran April 10, 1949.

On Nov. 24, 1962, David Schroeder and Lorraine Boehlke were joined in holy marriage at Fort Dodge, Iowa. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Mr. Schroeder enjoyed a 40-year sales career in the plumbing and heating industry.

He was a faithful and active member of Life In Christ Lutheran Church in Albertville.

He also loved working on his old cars and visiting with the car club members.

Mr. Schroeder is survived by his wife, Lorraine Boehlke Schroeder; sons, Todd (Lisa) Schroeder of Waterford, Mich., Jon (Jennifer) Schroeder of Maple Grove and Kent (Kim) Schroeder of Wausau, Wis.; a daughter, Nancy (Mark) Kemper of Moorhead; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Paul Schroeder; and a sister, Kathy Brannon; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Erwin and Edna Schroeder; and by his brothers, Barney and Roger Schroeder.

Joan Wagener

Services for Joan Elaine Wagener, 36, of Waconia were Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at House of Hope Lutheran Church in New Hope, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waconia.

She is survived by husband, Bob; children, Scott, Zachary and Hannah Addyman; mother and step-father, Suzi and Glenn Erickson of Mound; father and stepmother, Jim and Marie Ferris of Ellston, Iowa; sisters, Katie (Rod) Novak of Dayton, Becky (Bill) Louk of Minneapolis; twin brother, Jim (Cary) Ferris of Shakopee; brother, Tom (Cheryl) Ferris of Champlin; maternal grandparents, Bob and Ruth Trotter of Des Moines, Iowa; mother-in-law, Dora Wagener of Waconia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Dave Kes of Carver, Mike and Katie Wagener of Eden Prairie, Kathy and David Linder of Independence; 15 nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones.
