Stuart Briggs

Services for Stuart Ross Briggs, 50, of Sprague, Wash., are planned Sept. 14, 2002, in Sprague.

Mr. Briggs died Aug. 9, 2002, in Spokane, Wash. He was born July 31, 1952, to H. Alan and Leota (Hoese) Briggs. He graduated from Osseo High School, Gustavus Adolphus College, and University of Minnesota Law School. He was a self-employed CPA.

Mr. Briggs is survived by mother, three brothers, two sisters, daughter, Kelly (Brett) Wittnerl; son, Samuel.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Jill.

Patricia Grosser

Services for Patricia Grosser, 73, of Plymouth and Deerwood, were Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park, with burial in Weaver Lake Cemetery in Maple Grove.

Patricia and her husband, Russell, established Pleasant Hill Saddle Shops on their ranch in Maple Grove in 1969. Since then the stores have moved to Rogers and Lakeville.

She is survived by her husband, Russell; daughters, Catherine Grosser of Maple Grove, Judy (Charles) Widmark of Maple Grove, Mary (Scott) Grosser of Dayton; son, Paul (Sue) of Dayton; brother, Richard Buckman of Staples; brother-in-law, Roger (Irene) Grosser of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren, Amanda, Jennifer and Thomas Grosser of Dayton, Bryan and Megan Widmark of Maple Grove, Maxfield Koch of Dayton; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Alice Koecher

Services for Alice Koecher, 93 of Loretto were at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

Rev. Paul R. Settergren officiated and interment followed at St. Paul's Cemetery. Colleen Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. "In the Garden" was sung as a Congregational hymn. Kevin A. Koecher, Darwin Koecher, Steven Koecher, Glen Sipe, Kevin Karst and Chester Kottke served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Koecher died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born Nov. 2, 1908, in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, the daughter of Emil and Ernestine Kluck Strehler.

She was Baptized Nov. 29, 1908, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood Township. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and Confirmed in the Christian faith March 25, 1923, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. On April 8, 1929, Alice Strehler and Chester Koecher were joined in holy marriage in Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Koecher engaged in farming in Greenfield for many years and retired in 1978.

Chester Koecher preceded his wife in death Jan. 6, 1995. Mrs. Koecher was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. She loved the outdoors, especially birds and her flowers.

She is survived by children: Arlyn (Kathy) Koecher of Loretto and Vernita (Willard) Oestreich of Delano; grandchildren, Karen Carlson, Linda (Timothy) Fabian, Kevin A. (Donna) Koecher, Darcey (Kevin) Karst and Steven (Lara) Koecher; great-grandchildren, Sara, Angie and Bobbi Jo, Chris and Kelly, Tamara, Jennifer and David, Jacob and Kelly, Alyssa and Daniel; a great-great grandchild, Adam; a brother-in-law and sister-in law, Walter and Emma Koecher; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Koecher was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ernestine Strehler; sisters, Luella Goskey, Minnie Sipe, Alvina Miltz, Emma Vogel and Lena Jeske and by a brother, Ed Strehler.

Josh W. Lobitz

Services for Josh W. Lobitz, 15, of Delano were Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano.

Rev. Lyndon Nygaard officiated and casket bearers were Dana Lemmerman, Christine Thomas, Trevor Barwig, Bethany Cassey, Tabitha Lemmerman, Clayton Schlosser, Rebecca Koloski and Trent Hummel.

Josh died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at a result of an auto accident in Wright County. He was born Feb. 16, 1987, in Robbinsdale, the son of Joel A. and Wendy A. (Rauen) Lobitz. He was baptized March 15, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by Rev. Carl Johansson and was confirmed May 20, 2001, at Lyndale Lutheran Church in Maple Plain by Rev. Lyndon Nygaard.

Josh was to start his 10th grade at Delano High School. He was involved in Destination ImagiNation at school. He also taught Sunday school, played piano and guitar. He loved to sing, go camping, be with his friends and care for animals. He did photography and liked to bike, skateboard and scooter.

He is survived by parents, Joel and Wendy Lobitz of Delano; brother, Matt Lobitz of Delano; grandparents, Bernie and Karen Rauen of Waconia and Lloyd and June Lobitz of Watertown; great-great-grandparents, Bernard and Geraldine Rauen of Pequot Lakes; aunts and uncles, Lora and Ron Vanderploeg of Cable, Wis., Faye and Randy Feltmann of Farm Island, Lyle and Mary Lobitz of Norwood-Young America, Lloyd Lobitz and fiance Linda Giesen of Watertown, Suzann and Marvin Ernhart of Watertown, Craig Rauen of Otsego, John and Dawn Bruesehoff Rauen of Excelsior and Randy Rauen of Mankato; cousins; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Delores Lobitz; great-grandparents, Walter and Louise Lobitz, Carl and Mildred Krause and Martin and Laura Swanson.

June Nylin

Services for June M. Nylin, 64, of Maple Grove were Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Washburn-McReavy Chapel in Edina.

She is survived by loving husband of 43 years, Harvey; daughters, Pam (Bill) Ganser, and Audra (Bill) Gutzwiller; sons, Greg and fiancee Melida, Matt (Mary), and Brad and his special friend, Stephanie Teig; parents, Milton and Marcella Weide; sister, Jan (Kevin) Funnell; brothers, John Weide, Joe (Melissa) Weide, and Jay (Shawn) Weide; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by brother, James Weide.

The family sends a special thanks to the hospice staff at North Memorial Medical Center.

Frances M. Purkey

Services for Frances M. Purkey, 84, of Findlay, Ohio, were Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Findlay, Ohio.

Rev. Gregory Creech officiated and interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay.

Mrs. Purkey died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Winebrenner Village in Findlay. She was born Sept. 16, 1917 in Macon, Ga., the daughter of Thomas F. and Vera (Pittman) Moore, Sr. She married Carl Raymond Purkey Aug. 14, 1943. He died May 2, 2002.

Mrs. Purkey was the former office manager at the Findlay Hearing Aid Center and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Findlay and a member of the church's Theuer Circle. She was also a volunteer at Chopin Hall in Findlay.

She is survived by daughter, Vera F. (Gary) Kramer of Jenera, Ohio; son, Franklin Carl Purkey of Delano; grandchildren, Heather Nahhas, Dawn Stoll, Carrie Glunz, Mark Purkey and Mike Purkey; great-grandchildren, Nathan Nahhas, Andrew Nahhas, Caleb Stoll, Josiah Nahhas and Christopher Glunz; step-great-grandchild and brother, Thomas F. Moore, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.

Levera Bacon

Services for Levera M. Bacon, 89, of the St. Therese Home, and formerly of Golden Valley, were Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at the St. Joseph Parish Center in New Hope, with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by daughters, Carol (Jim) Malone of Maple Grove, Cathy (Denny) Pomerleau of Champlin; grandchildren, Tina Pomerleau, Tanya (Brent) Goracke, Laura (John) Haase, Brook and Jayme Malone; great-grandchildren, Jordan Goracke, Sydney Haase; sister, Alice Davis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harvey J. Barthel

Services for Harvey J. Barthel, 73, formerly of Brooklyn Center and Albertville were Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the St. Albert Catholic Church in Albertville.

Rev. Peter Richards was the celebrant and the interment followed at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope.

Mykel, Rick, Mark, Zach and Matt Barthel and Dave Kuzyk served as the casket bearers.

Mr. Barthel died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Mission Farms Nursing Home in Plymouth.

He was born July 4, 1929, in Frankfort Township, the son of Math and Emma Schmitz Barthel Jr.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 until 1953.

On July 6, 1957, Harvey Barthel and Beverly Brandsrud were joined in marriage in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with four children. Beverly Barthel preceded her husband in death March 5.

Mr. Barthel was employed as a tool and die maker at Ware Manufacturing for 34 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and belonged to the Church of St. Albert in Albertville.

Mr. Barthel is survived by children, Mykel (Meg) Barthel of Fort Ripley, Julie (Dave) Kuzyk of Brooklyn Park, Rick (Renae Kalmbacher) Barthel of Brooklyn Center and Mark (Marilyn) Barthel of Anoka; grandchildren: Zach and Mandy; Abby and Alex; Matt and Tyler; sisters and a brother: Rita (Cliff) Soltau of Monticello, Ronnie (Rose) Barthel of Madison, S.D., Harriet Carlson and Clare Elliott both of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Audrey Brandsrud of Watertown, S.D., many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Barthel was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Barthel; and parents, Math Barthel Jr. and Emma Barthel Anthill.

Bernice E. Bechtold

Services for Bernice E. Bechtold, 76, of Hanover were at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

Rev. Dennis K. Strong officiated and interment followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

David Farstad was the organist for the funeral service and Cindy Steinke sang "On Eagles' Wings" and "The Lord's Prayer." "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" were sung as congregational hymns.

Rodney Bechtold, Todd Schleif, Carol Heath, Gloria Fischer, Renee Graen and Ron Bechtold served as casket bearers.

Mrs. Bechtold died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in rural Buffalo March 26, 1926, the daughter of Robert and Emma Hahnke Schleif.

She was baptized March 26, 1926, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and Confirmed in the Christian faith July 2, 1939, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. Her Confirmation verse was Matthew 24:13.

On April 26, 1947, Bernice Schleif and Bernard Bechtold were joined in holy marriage at the Schleif homestead near Hanover. God blessed their marriage with three children: Donald, Diana and Wally.

Through the years, she engaged in housekeeping and enjoyed her gardens.

She was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield and belonged to the Ladies Aid. She also was a longtime member of American Legion Post 567's Auxiliary.

Mrs. Bechtold is survived by children, Donald (Mary) Bechtold of Brooklyn Park, Wally (Becky) Bechtold of St. Michael and Diana (Steve) Saxton of Hanover; grandchildren, Heather (Brant) Nieminski and Beth (Andy) Carrane, Jaimie and Stephanie Saxton, Kyle, Kayla and Kory Bechtold; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Carrane and Hunter Nieminski; a brother, Eldon Schleif of Buffalo; a sister, Delores (Ken) Larsen of Plymouth; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willmar (Caroline) Bechtold of New Hope, Margaret Schutte of Corcoran and Polly Schleif of Becker; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. Bechtold June 7, 1997; a brother, Harvey Schleif; and by a godchild, Jody Bechtold.

John Blue

Private memorial services have been hosted for John Patrick Blue, 39, of Anoka. He died in a car accident Aug. 5, 2002.

He is survived by mother, Virginia of Ramsey; sister, Lisa (Kareem) A-Hameed of Anoka; brothers, Charles (Mary) of Ramsey and Donald (Debra) of Champlin; grandmothers, Doris Blue of Covington, Ga., and Sadie Meister of Ramsey; niece, Amy Blue; nephews, Jacob Blue and Michael Wollschlager; his love, Michelle Marino; many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by father, Delbert S.

Darlene Childs

A private funeral service was conducted for Darlene Ann Childs, 70, of St. Michael.

Mrs. Childs died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids. She was born in Park Rapids, Minn., Oct. 8, 1931, the daughter of Donald L. and Violet E. Beach Bradt.

She is survived by her husband, David Childs of St. Michael; children, Steven Childs of St. Michael, Deborah (Mike) Brehmer of Panora, Iowa, David (Christine) Childs of St. Michael, and Jeffrey Childs of St. Michael; seven grandchildren; a sister, Donna Belle Eldred of San Antonio, Texas; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Loren Cooley

Services for Loren A. Cooley, 84, of northeast Minneapolis were Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the Church of St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by wife, Alice. He will be deeply missed by sons, Michael (Nancy) of Maple Grove, and Robert (Nancy) of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick (Katie), Molly (Erik), Adam, and Brian; great grandchildren, Connor and Paiton; many loving relatives and friends.

Marius Cohn

Services for Marius Cohn, 82, of Minneapolis were Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Temple Israel in Minneapolis.

He is survived by wife of more than 50 years, Eva; daughters, Enid (Steven) Cohen of Tustin, Calif., and Kathryn (Rabbi Mark) Peilen of South Side Ala.; son , Thomas (Terri) Cohn of Maple Grove; brother-in-law, John (Elizabeth) Marcus of Skokie, Ill.; sister-in-law, Miriam Cohn of Minneapolis; and grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Ben, Geoffrey and Rebecca.

Dominic Farnick-Thiele

Services for Dominic Michael Farnick-Thiele, the 8-day-old son of Tamara J. "Tami" Farnick and Chad M. Thiele of Rockford, were Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Pastor Delburn Kurtz officiated and interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Dominic died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born July 20, 2002, in St. Louis Park.

He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Lloyd Farnick of Rockford, Tracy Farnick of Buffalo, and Gary and Gail Thiele of Montrose; great grandparents Phyllis LaFrenier of Plymouth, Albert LaFrenier of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Marilyn Thiele of Litchfield and Pat and Gladys Casey of Annandale; uncles and aunts, Aaron Thiele of Duluth, Jesse Thiele of Montrose, and Tanya and Tina Farnick of Rockford.

Robert Gardner

Services for Robert R. Gardner, 76, of Maple Grove were Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center.

He was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Minneapolis to Raymond and ida Gardner. He died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at North Memorial Medical Center.

He is survived by wife of 49 years, Joyce; children, Richard, Laurel (Richard) Mulhollam, Lucinda (Jeffrey) Boeck, William (Bonnie); sister, Delores Lloyd; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bryan), Jason, Matthew, Michael and Brenna.

Thomas J. Gits

Services for Thomas J. Gits, 70, of Danbury, Wis., and formerly of Shakopee, were Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at the Cavanaugh-McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee.

He is survived by wife, Bernetta; children, Diane (Jeffrey) Chapman of Maple Grove, Shelly (Shawn) Wilson of Edina, Annette (Richard) Wermerskirchen of Shakopee, Bob (Gwen) of Burnsville; seven grandchildren; and brother, Jim (Delores) of Hugo.
