Patricia Grosser

Services for Patricia Grosser, 73, of Plymouth and Deerwood, were Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park, with burial in Weaver Lake Cemetery in Maple Grove.

Patricia and her husband, Russell, established Pleasant Hill Saddle Shops on their ranch in Maple Grove in 1969. Since then the stores have moved to Rogers and Lakeville.

She is survived by her husband, Russell; daughters, Catherine Grosser of Maple Grove, Judy (Charles) Widmark of Maple Grove, Mary (Scott) Grosser of Dayton; son, Paul (Sue) of Dayton; brother, Richard Buckman of Staples; brother-in-law, Roger (Irene) Grosser of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren, Amanda, Jennifer and Thomas Grosser of Dayton, Bryan and Megan Widmark of Maple Grove, Maxfield Koch of Dayton; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Isabelle N. Hayes

Services for Isabelle N. Hayes, 81, of Maple Plain were Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Delano United Methodist Church.

Pastor James Beard officiated and interment was in Kreidler Cemetery in Montrose.

Pallbearers were Chuck Johnson, Michael Johnson, Scott Anderson, Jeff Hayes, Mike Kangas and Bill Hayes.

Mrs. Hayes died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. She was born Aug. 17, 1920, to Fred and Joy (Wright) Bechtel in Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; daughter, Sharlene; brother, Curtis Bechtel and son-in-law, Richard Johnson.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Johnson, Sharon Hayes, Shirley Wardak and Mary (Larry) Krause; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Carol (Richard) Smith.

James H. Hembre

Services for James H. Hembre, 60, of Buffalo and Lynx Lake were Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

Rev. Christian Bode officiated at the funeral service.

Corey Desens was the organist for the funeral service. "Amazing Grace," "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "On Eagles' Wings" were sung as congregational hymns.

Mike Deinhammer, Rick Gay, Troy Hoefling, Ryan Kral, Dan Hembre, Jason Hembre, Joseph Wutsch, Kenneth Wutsch and Derek Shearer served as casket bearers.

Mr. Hembre died Wednesday, Aug. 7, at his residence.

He was born in Duluth Sept. 8, 1941, the son of Harry E. and Myrtle V. Strandberg Hembre.

He was raised in St. Louis Park and graduated from Minneapolis Vocational High School. He entered the Navy in 1959.

On Jan. 22, 1966, James H. Hembre and Susann K. Shearer were joined in holy marriage at Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Lino Lakes. God blessed their marriage with three children.

He formerly worked for Chrysler Corporation for 30 years. He was also devoted to The Rockford Athletic Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, time at his cabin and most of all his family.

Mr. Hembre is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Susann Hembre (Nee Shearer); sons: Keith Hembre, Kenneth (Susan) Hembre and Kevin (Amanda) Hembre; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Madalyn; sisters, Dolores Barington, Diane Wutsch and Terri Hammond; brothers, Robert Hembre and Mark Hembre; an aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, David.

Morgan Johnson

Services for Morgan Edward Johnson, 86, of Minneapolis, have been scheduled for a later date.

Mr. Johnson is survived by daughter, Barbara (David) Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Daniel (Kathy) of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Michael, Katie and Ashlee of Maple Grove; brother, Anton of Anoka; and sister, Muriel Martinson of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Lloyd.

As a young man, Morgan worked as an auto mechanic, drove for Greyhound Bus, and eventually entered the automobile business. He was general manager of Downtown Chevrolet and owner of West Side Volkswagen and numerous other businesses. Morgan was on the board of directors of Campus Crusade for Christ in Minneapolis and one of three original incorporators of Lutheran Youth Encounter, Inc.

Sadie McDowell

Services for Sadie H. McDowell, 99, were Friday. Aug 16, 2002, at the Washburn-McReavy Robbinsdale Chapel.

She is survived by daughter, Shirley (David) Reitsma of Crystal; granddaughters, Susan (Jim) Kasper of Maple Grove, Linda (Michael) Wirtanen of Phoenix, Peggy Gordon of Phoenix, Terri Reitsma and Terry Moran of Las Vegas; nine great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Rodney Ackerson and E. Robert McDowell; and grandson, David Reitsma.

Wallace Morris

Services for Wallace Roy Morris, 74, of Spooner, Wis., and formerly of Minneapolis, were Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Esther Morris; brother, George; and sisters, Shirley Anderson, Pat Wall and Bernadine Mueller.

He is survived by loving wife of 56 years, Avis "Lorraine"; daughter, Kathy (Ernie) Tetrault of Spooner; sons, Richard (Carol) of Maple Grove, and Robert (Karen) of Blaine; grandchildren, Lesa (Matt) Richter of Trego, Wis., Steven Tetrault of River Falls, Wis., Amy and Eric Morris of Maple Grove, and Julie and Laura Morris of Blaine; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jace, Karlie and Madelynn of Trego.

June Nylin

Services for June M. Nylin, 64, of Maple Grove were Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Washburn-McReavy Chapel in Edina.

She is survived by loving husband of 43 years, Harvey; daughters, Pam (Bill) Ganser, and Audra (Bill) Gutzwiller; sons, Greg and fiancee Melida, Matt (Mary), and Brad and his special friend, Stephanie Teig; parents, Milton and Marcella Weide; sister, Jan (Kevin) Funnell; brothers, John Weide, Joe (Melissa) Weide, and Jay (Shawn) Weide; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by brother, James Weide.

The family sends a special thanks to the hospice staff at North Memorial Medical Center.

Helen Remillard

Services for Helen Corinne (Colvin) Remillard, 76, of Maple Grove were Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Rev. Jack Long officiated and interment was in St. Vincent Cemetery in Osseo.

Mrs. Remillard died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. She was born June 24, 1926, to Virgil and Martha (Hayes) Colvin in De Rapids, S.D.

She is survived by daughters, Renee (Brian) McCoy of Shoreview, Sheila (James) Ohm of Solon Springs, Wis., and Maureen (Daniel) Stackhouse of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Charles Remillard of Circle Pines and Donald J. Remillard of Rogers; one brother, John Colvin of Mesa, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eileen and Florence; and brothers, Robert and Philip.

Memorials preferred to the H. Corinne Remillard Memorial Fund.

Alvin Scherber

Services for Alvin P. Scherber, 86, of Maple Grove were Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Mr. Scherber died Aug. 15. He had been under hospice care and was surrounded by his wife and children. He was born to Rose and Matthew Scherber in Fletcher in 1916. He famed his father's farm for 18 years from 1950 to 1968. He then was employed by Osseo School Dist. 279 and retired in 1974. He was a Knights of Columbus member for 46 years and belonged to the 9131 Council of Osseo/Maple Grove.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gertrude (Schmitz). He will be greatly missed by his children, Claire (Dick) Flynn, Ruth (Dale) Gulmont, Ken Scherber, Dennis (Winnie) Scherber and Gerard Scherber; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lenore Lewis; brothers, Herb Scherber and Clem Scherber; and daughter-in-law, Kit Scherber.

Memorial preferred to the Alvin P. Scherber Memorial Fund.

James Seitz

Services for James G. "Gary" Seitz, were Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Edina.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy; sons, David (Julie) Seitz of Clear Lake and Donald (Nancy) Seitz of Osseo; daughters, Lois (Dan) Yant of Wenatchee, Wash., Lenore (Larry) Tatge of Grove City, Lisa Seitz of Eden Prairie, Lorelei (Mike) Batula of Elk River, Linda (Greg) Berghuis of Atwater, Lorraine (Clarence) Gibbs of Mareno Valley, Calif.; step-daughters, Sara (Jesus) Gudino of Florida and Cindy Sattler of Chaska; brother, Richard (Bernadine) Seitz of Waconia; sister, Camille (Russell) Moore of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ferdinand; mother, Bernice; and brother, Robert.

David Richard Tapio

Services for David Richard Tapio, 52, were Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Delano.

Pastor John Folkerds officiated and interment was in the Cokato Finnish Cemetery in Cokato.

Pallbearers were Daniel Tapio, Thomas Tapio, Nickolas Tapio, John Reardon, Ryan Przybylski, and David Saari.

Mr. Tapio was born Sept. 17, 1949, in Minneapolis the son of John Edwin Tapio and Mildred (Saari) Tapio and later Shrode. He was the second of five children. He graduated from Cokato High School in 1967, where he was active in debate and drama. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology where he graduated with high honors. He was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Phi honor societies and received the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Design Award. He studied biomedical physics at Harvard Medical School and MIT and later attended medical school at the University of Minnesota. He served as a consultant to biomedical firms on a variety of topics including electric stimulation and biomaterials in the treatment of chronic wounds, seasonal affective disorder, neuromuscular stimulation, pain relief in dentistry and in the treatment of hereditary and acquired colorblindness. He was co-author of the book New Frontiers in Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. Mr. Tapio participated in many things such as flying, sky diving, scuba diving, spelunking and skiing.

He lived in Nebraska, Colorado, and later in Coconut Grove, Fla., where he sold exotic birds. He returned again to Minnesota and did woodcarving, working with and selling herbs and researching their benefits. He became very adept at genealogy and did a lot of work on various people's family history. He worked for the paper in Delano as a reporter. He was also a longtime member of Mensa, an association of people with high IQ's. He taught classes in the metropolitan and surrounding area, both in genealogy research and herb uses. He also taught in Delano Adult Education.

He spent six years taking care of various handicapped people and was always attentive to their needs. He was also in the Big Brother Program. He assisted in various civic organizations.

Mr. Tapio was always an avid reader and was always willing to share his knowledge. He was interested in organic farming and shortly before his death went on to found his own business, Old Yellowstone Trails Bison and Elk. He sold and developed various flavors of bison and elk jerky and sausages and was active in the local farmer's markets. He loved to sell. He enjoyed interacting with many of the people in Delano, Buffalo, and Twin Cities suburban area.

Mr. Tapio lead a rich life. He was both scientific and artistic, he was loyal and friendly. With his vast and broad knowledge, he was always extremely helpful to people. He freely imparted his knowledge to assist them in any way possible and in doing so, he enriched their lives as well.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Edwin Tapio, and later his step father, Leroy Schrode, a long time Delano resident.

He is survived by his mother Mildred Shrode of Delano; John Tapio (Sue) of Hutchinson, Daniel Tapio of Delano, Mary Reardon (Paul) of Waverly and Thomas Tapio (Jody) of Buffalo. Nephews Nickolas Tapio (Randi) of Maple Lake and John Reardon of Buffalo; nieces, Mianna Tapio of Hutchinson, Marissa Tapio of Brooklyn Park and Molly Reardon of St. Cloud; Chelsie Tapio and Cameron Tapio of Buffalo; two grand nephews and one grand niece.

He is also survived by his dear and longtime friend, Mary Pryzbylski and her son Ryan, both of Brooklyn Park.; Leory Schrode's two sons, Leland and Larry of Delano and his two daughters, Dorthy and Shirley, both of rural Minnesota.

Paul A. Westerberg

Services for Paul A. Westerberg, 46, of Maple Grove, formerly of Hopkins, were Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

He is survived by wife, Beth; children, Jacob and Lauren; mother, Thelma of Minnetonka; brothers, John (Candice) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gary (Pam) of Wheaton, Ill.; and nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by father, Lauren; and brother, Steven.

Bernice Schlesinger Wolf

A memorial service for Bernice Schlesinger Wolf will be Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the home of Joanne and Howard Weiner in Edina. She died Saturday, August 10, 2002, in Maple Grove at the home of Ray and Lynne Simon Ploetz, where she lived for almost two years under the loving, devoted and watchful eye of her first granddaughter, Lynne.

Bernice is survived by children, Richard Wolf and Charlotte of Des Moines, Iowa, Rosalyn Simon and Larry Stewart of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Joanne Weiner and Howard of Edina; grandchildren, Lynne Simon Ploetz and Ray, Ruth Simon Reid and John, Caren Simon, Peter Simon, John Simon and Teri, Jim Wolf, Ellen Wolf, Susan Sandler and Dennis, Fred Weiner and Elizabeth, and Janet Collins; great-grandchildren, Sam Korhel, Kate Reid, Robin Heelan, Joe Price, Jake Duscha, Erin, Greg and Veronica Simon, Joe, Frank, Nichelle and Alisha Simon, Tasha, Ben and Jeremy Sandler, Stefanie, Oliva and Louis Weiner, Rachel and Adam Collins; and great-great-grandchild Jung Wolf.

Adam Blair

Services for Adam Blair, 23, of Rockford were Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Osseo Church of Nazarene.

He is survived by parents Gerald and Janet; brother Jared (Sherri); sister Amanda; nephew Jullian; grandparents Adlene (Ernie) Nelson and Woodrow Blair.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother and a grandfather.

Jacquelyn Blankenship

Services for Jacquelyn Ann "Jackie" Blankenship, 65, of Rockford were Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

She is survived by husband, Dean Blankenship; children, Larry (Amy) Blankenship of St. Cloud, and Gina (John) Fritzke of Watertown; grandchildren, Nicholas Blankenship, Jon Blankenship, Jamie Blankenship and Tony Fritzke; step grandchildren, Meghan, Michael and Matthew Fischer; brothers and sisters, Edward Smith, Patricia Anderson, Jeanne Smith, Sharon Lien, Michael Smith, Tim Kroening-Smith and Kevin Smith; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Rebecca Fritzke and by her parents.

James Carlson

Services for James Carlson Leonard of Maple Grove were Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Lake Harriet Christian Church in Edina.

He is survived by wife, EvaLyn of Maple Grove; daughters, Deborah (Kristopher) Spiesz of Minneapolis and Denise Carlson of Bloomington; sons, Jay (Billi) Carlson of Grand Marais and Todd (Michelle) Carlson of St. Joseph; sister, Marianne (Roger) Minns of Rockford, Ill.; mother, Charlotte Carlson of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by father, Harry; sister-in-law, Nancy Doolen; and aunt, Vivian Valentine.

Mary Eaton

Services for Mary Eaton, 59, of Champlin, were Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park. She died of cancer Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002.

She is survived by husband, Lynn "Butch"; sons, Mark (Laurie), Robert (Tamara); daughter, Angela; mother, Gertrude Knott; sisters, Dorine (Aldo) Valiani, Rosalie (Donald) Fournier; brother, Gregory (Donna) Knott; sister-in-law, Marian Knott; two grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Davis Robert; many nieces, nephews and friends.
