Alger Morris
Services for Alger Morris, 81, of Minneapolis were Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at First Apostolic Lutheran Congregation in rural Cokato, with burial in Cokato Finnish Cemetery. He was born Nov. 23, 1920, and died Sept. 4, 2002, of stomach cancer at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
In 1944, he completed his service as a World War II Naval Air Force pilot. He then married Mildred Tormanen of Cokato; from this union came 10 children. Twin girls were the oldest of their eight girls, and of those twins, Judy is married to Calvin J. Hill, son of Karl J. Hill of Maple Grove.
Mr. Morris is survived by two sons; eight daughters and their spouses; a loving wife of 58 years; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a host of many dearly remembering friends.
An honest and honorable man, Mr. Morris also had many respected business friends in the community.
Adlene Nelson
Services for Adlene Nelson, 90, of Osseo are today, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Osseo United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Nelson died Sept. 13, 2002, in Robbinsdale. She was born Jan. 17, 1912, in East St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest; son, Donald Harker; daughter, Janet (Gerald) Blair; stepson, Roger (Marcia) Nelson; and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob Romfo
Services for Bob Romfo, 62, of Delano were Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Rettinger Funeral Home in Long Lake.
He is survived by loving wife, Anita; sons, Chuck (Mary) and Scott; grandchildren, Mia and Ava; parents, Al and Bea; brother, Tom (Rachael); sisters, Jan (Mike) Bedeau, Shelley (Gary) Bradley and many loving relatives and friends. Bob was a long-time member of the Twin Cities Polo Club; a Master of the Fox Hounds for the Long Lake Hounds and a long-time employee of Control Data.
Doris Schadewald
Services for Doris Schadewald, 86, of Corcoran were Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at St. Thomas Catholic Church of Corcoran.
Mrs. Schadewald died Sept. 23 in Bloomington. She was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Maple Grove.
She is survived by daughters, Carole (Lyle) Banta, Elaine (Bijan) Nikrad, Diane Schadewald and Lois Schadewald; daughter-in-law Wendy Schadewald; grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Banta, Michelle Banta, Deborah Nikrad and Kavon (Julia) Nikrad; great-grandchildren, Taylor Banta, Avery Banta; sisters, Leah Lawson, Julia (Kenneth) Englund; brothers-in-law, George Schadewald and Jerome Schadewald; sister-in-law, Marjorie Rougier; nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Schadewald is preceded in death by husband, Walter W. Schadewald; son Robert J. Schadewald; parents Harry and Celia Hastings; and brother, Douglas (Betty) Hastings.
Everyone will remember her smile, her shy gentleness, her tremendous strength and faith, her deep love of her husband and family, her caring for others, and her love of travel.
Barbara Seamans
Services for Barbara J. Seamans, 49, of Champlin, were Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. She died Sept. 20, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by loving husband, Roy; brother, Gene (Sylvia); sister, Patricia (Freeman); nieces, Casey and Kristina; nephew, Mitchell; mother-in-law, Clara; sister-in-law, Beverly; nieces, Kimberly, Debbie, Sherri, Renee and Kelly; aunts and uncles, cousins and other family. The memory of her strength of spirit, generosity toward family and friends, and unique sense of humor will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by mother, Luella (Judy); and father, Gene H. Olson.
Ardyce Shanks
Services for Ardyce G. Shanks, 82, of Anoka and formerly of Hibbing, were Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Anoka United Methodist Church, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. She died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2002, at her daughter's home in Champlin.
She is survived by sons, Sanford, Jr., (Florence), and Mark; daughter, Merridy; and grandchildren, Collin, Adam and Samantha.
She was preceded in death by husband, Sanford, Sr.; and brothers, Roger and Richard Matheson.
Lloyd Steffens
Services for Lloyd C. Steffens, 75, of St. Michael were at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.
Rev. Michael Becker was the Celebrant and interment followed at the St. Michael Cemetery.
Readers for the Mass were Jeff Scherber and Sr. Audrey Lindenfelser, SSND.
Casket bearers were Douglas Lindenfelser, Ronald Steffens, Joseph Perrault, Michael Robeck, Joel Dehmer and Wayne Kasper.
Mr. Steffens died Friday, Sept. 20, at Park View Care Center.
He was born in St. Michael Aug. 31, 1927, the son of Charles and Dorothy Robeck Steffens.
On Aug. 5, 1952, Lloyd Steffens and Delores Dehmer were joined in holy marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. God blessed their marriage with two sons.
Mr. Steffens was formerly employed for 31 years at George A. Clark and Son. He later was employed four years at Deltak Corporation and seven years at The Wright County Courthouse.
He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #4174 and to Catholic Aid.
Mr. Steffens is survived by his wife, Delores M. Steffens; sons, Bruce (Joan) Steffens of Battle Ground, Wash. and David (Pam) Steffens of St. Michael; grandchildren, Wendy and Derek Steffens; Jayson, Chelsea and Sara Steffens; sisters and brothers, Eunice Munson of Minneapolis, Emmett "Sam" Steffens of Rockford, Gloria (Cliff) Varner of Wellborn, Fla. and Francis Steffens of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Eugene, William and Norman.
Laurie A. Stueve
Services for Laurie A. Stueve, 31, of Maple Grove were Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Walburga Catholic Church in Fletcher, Minn. She died Sept. 17, 2002.
She is survived by husband David; sons Timothy and Zachary; mother Margaret Brausen of Maple Grove; brother Bob (Julie) Brausen of Rogers; and sister Chris (Bob) Melina of St. Paul.
Rita Trombley
Services for Rita J. Trombley, 50, of Maple Grove were Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 69th Ave. N., Brooklyn Center.
Interment is in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Mrs. Trombley was survived by husband, Wayne; daughter, Julie (Dale) Wilhelmi; grandson Kody; mother, Lois Telker; and brother, Jerry (Jane) Telker.
She was preceded in death by father, Fred Telker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to HHH Cancer Center.
Alvin Andersen
Services for Alvin Andersen, 70, of Maple Plain were Saturday, Jan. 4, 2002, at St. George Catholic Church in Long Lake.
Mr. Andersen died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002. He is survived by loving wife of 47 years, Margie; children, Denice (Bryan) Hendricks and Jody (Dana) Jenkins; grandchildren, Nicole, Dan, Andy and Alex; brother, Kenneth (Midge); sisters, Harriet (Wesley) and Sharon (Ivan); many wonderful friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by parents.
Lillian E. Bauer
Services for Lillian E. Bauer, 99, of Delano were Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.
Pastor Paul Marggraf officiated and interment was in the Mt. Olive East Cemetery in Delano.
Pallbearers were Andrew Christ, Nicholas Christ, Geoffrey Christ, Nicholas Bauer, Matthew Hanna and Timothy Dantoin. Honorary bearers were Steve Christ, Mark Christ, Scott Bauer, Darryl Hanson and Daniel Waage.
Mrs. Bauer died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Elim Home in Watertown. She was born Dec. 10, 1902, to Charles A. and Clara (Swenson) Johnson in San Francisco Township, Minn.
She married Louis William Bauer June 9, 1928. The couple lived their entire lives in the Delano and Watertown areas. They had two children, Muriel and Clemons.
Upon graduation from high school, Mrs. Bauer went on to get a teaching certificate. She taught school at the Oak Lake School Dist. 31 in Watertown. She has been a member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano since she and William were married. She loved music and working with children. She had a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Barney. She was known to be an excellent cook and baker.
Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by husband, Louis; four brothers; three sisters and son-in-law. She is survived by daughter, Muriel (Barney) Lindstrom; son, Clemons (Julie); seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and sister, Mabel Marshall.
Mrs. Bauer and her family were thoroughly impressed with the loving care that she received at the Elim Home in Watertown.
Bernard Barthel
Services for Bernard A. "Bernie" Barthel, 87, of St. Michael were Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.
Rev. Michael Becker, Rev. Leonard Siebenaler and Rev. George Kinney were the concelebrants for the mass. Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
Special music for the mass was provided by Tim and Greg Duerr.
Honorary Casket Bearers were Kyle and Paul Vetsch.
Casket bearers were Travis Barthel, Trent Barthel, Ryan Deziel, Andy Kottke, Kent Pawelk and Matt Treptau.
Mr. Barthel died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at his residence. He was born April 4, 1915, the son of Mathias H. and Theresia Kessler Barthel and lived his entire life on the family's homestead.
On May 30, 1951, Bernard Barthel was joined in holy marriage to Irene Meister at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corcoran. God blessed their marriage with 10 children.
Mr. Barthel engaged in dairy farming for many years and was a longtime member of Minnesota Brown Swiss Association. He also belonged to the Hanover Rod and Gun Club.
He was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.
Mr. Barthel is survived by his loving wife, Irene Barthel; children, Lynette (Rick) Deziel of Corcoran, Ben (Terri) Barthel, Benita (Jim) Oliver, Gerry Barthel, Gordy (Carole) Barthel and Theresa (Mike) Treptau, all of St. Michael, Michele (Dan) Pawelk of Maple Lake, Charlene (Gerard) Willette of Winsted, Lisa (Kenny) Daluge of Maple Lake and Pam (Mike) Vetsch of Cokato; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Duerr of Buffalo, Rosemary Vickerman of Long Lake, Marie Schumacher of Buffalo and Sr. M. Relindis, SSND of San Antonio, Texas; many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Pawelk; parents, Mathias and Theresia Barthel; and eight brothers and sisters.
Gilbert Bullert
Services for Gilbert G. Bullert, 64, of Buffalo were Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Monticello Covenant Church of Monticello.
Rev. Brian Johnson officiated. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery of Monticello.
Mr. Bullert passed away at his residence Friday, Nov. 29, following a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
He was born July 18, 1938, in Brownton, Minn., to Fred and Martha (Weerts) Bullert. He worked most of his life as a carpenter. He was a very caring person who would do all he could for his family and friends. Though he will be greatly missed, his family is thankful that he will be at his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Bullert was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Martha; infant brother, Waldemar; sister, Marlene; and grandson, Michael Bullert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39-and-a-half years, Ann; children, Joe of Buffalo, Nancy (Steve) Eklund of Lakeville, John (Candy) of Big Lake and Susan (John) Volden of Hanover; 11 grandchildren, Becca, Garrett, Daniel, Jacob, Matthew, Peter, Nicole, Thomas, Evan, Grace and Sarah; brothers, Everett (Ruby) and Charles; sister, Leatrice (Max) Ziwisky; mother-in-law, Blanche Schutrop; brother-in-law, Gene Thompson; and many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Herman Day
Services for Herman C. Day, 77, of Rockford were Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
Pastor Larry Rehlander officiated at the funeral service. Monica Mendez was the organist. Dottie Bohneman was the soloist and sang "Just A Closer Walk with Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross." "Amazing Grace" was sung as a congregational hymn.
Friends called Friday, Dec. 20, at the funeral home. Further visitation and services were Sunday, Dec. 22, and Monday, Dec. 23, in Alvin, Wis. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Alvin.
Jim Bohneman, Bob Kreft, Dennis Day, James Day, Beau Nicholson and Donn Day served as casket bearers.
Mr. Day died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. He was born July 5, 1925, in Alvin Township, Wis., the son of Byrd S. and Mary M. Morrison Day.
Mr. Day honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WW II.
On April 9, 1994, Herman C. Day and Ethel A. Johnson were joined in holy marriage in Rockford. Herman was formerly employed at Honeywell for 25 years and was also the former chief of police in Tenino, Wash.
He was a life member of VFW Post 230 in Columbia Heights.
Mr. Day is survived by his loving wife: Ethel Day; sons, David (Robin) Day of Golden Valley and Daniel (Patti) Day of Litchfield; grandchildren, Donn, Kristy, Angela, Dennis, James, Elijah, Beau, Josh, Angel, Gloria, Yoseph and Rodney; great grandchildren, Natalie and Kaylie; step daughters, Lola Mersha of Apple Valley, Debbie Hirsch of Crystal and Diane Johnson of Jordan; step sons, John Johnson of St. Louis Park and Vernon Johnson of Brooklyn Park; sisters, Annie Puckett, Lucille Cornwell, Elva Puckett and Jean Bolyard, all of Wisconsin; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Byrd and Mary Day and eight sisters and brothers.
