Charles Keck

Charles Wayne Keck, 85, formerly of Rockford, died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in Cokato.

He was born July 2, 1917, in Brookings, S.D. He graduated from Brookings High School and South Dakota State University and was married to Vivian Fish two days after graduation on June 7, 1939.

The couple resided in Jeffers, Windom, Huron, S.D., and North St. Paul where Wayne was an educator. He took time off from teaching to serve as discharge officer at the Great Lakes Naval Station and also to manage the Farm Bureau Service Company for 16 years. He then returned to teaching in 1964 and retired from John Glen Jr. High in North St. Paul. He and Vivian then resided in Rockford, Annandale and Cokato; they wintered for 23 years in Cass Grande, Ariz.

Wayne and Vivian loved traveling and visiting their many friends and relatives along the way and in the south. Mr. Keck's church involvements were very important to him and all the friendships they developed everywhere they resided. They were always anxious to share their faith whenever the opportunity arose (and sometimes whether or not there was an opportunity).

Their favorite bible passage was Romans 10:9 "That if Thou shalt confess will thy mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." He and Vivian dedicated their lives to the Lord when they were confirmed in the eighth grade and rededicated their lives to the Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade.

Mr. Keck is survived by sons, Bob and wife Gladys of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Jim and wife Janet of Okaboji, Iowa; and daughter Nancy and husband Larry Wasmund of Cokato; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister Vivian Schwartzkopf of Hermiston, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian and an infant daughter.

Ron Johnson

The life of Ron Johnson, friend to the Corcoran community, was celebrated Nov. 12, 2002, at the Evans-Norby Funeral Home in Osseo.

Mr. Johnson was one of the charter members of the Corcoran Jaycees Club, which started in December 1980. He was the Corcoran chapter president in 1984. He became district director for the Minnesota Jaycees in 1985.

The Corcoran Jaycees brought pull tabs into the chapter in 1987 and Mr. Johnson took on the responsibility of gambling manager. He was the one and only for 15 years, which is a milestone for most organizations.

Mr. Johnson was awarded a Minnesota Statesman 702 in 1988, the highest award a member can receive from the Jaycees. In 1993 he was awarded Minnesota East Area Jaycee of the Year. And in 1995 he was awarded Jaycee International Senator 53937; this award is earned by less than 1% of the entire Jaycee membership.

With these honors, Mr. Johnson was awarded a lifetime membership to the Jaycees organization. He has been to more Corcoran Jaycee events than any other person in the history of the chapter. He was proud to be a Corcoran resident and enjoyed the projects the Jaycees were involved within the community, such as, dedication of the city hall sign, the community information sign, the new City Park Playground, senior scholarships, tree give away, wreath deliveries, Santa visit, Easter Egg hunt, Halloween Party and countless other community projects.

Mr. Johnson passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the age of 52.

Family and friends will remember him as a humble man, never taking credit for his accomplishments, and he will be greatly missed and never forgotten by the past and present members of the Corcoran Jaycees, his family, countless friends, the Corcoran community, and fellow Minnesota Jaycees. A Jaycee memorial in memory of Mr. Johnson is in the planning stages for the city of Corcoran.
