Mary Lou Mengelkoch

Services for Mary Lou Mengelkoch, 60, of South Haven, formerly of Waverly, were Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Deacon Joseph Kittok officiated.

Mrs. Mengelkoch died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born March 11, 1942 to William and Lucille (Motzko) Bernick in Delano.

She married Donald Mengelkoch April 22, 1961. They had six children. Mrs. Mengelkoch liked to take walks and work in her garden on the flowers and plants. She enjoyed dancing and singing. She also took pleasure in the daily chores associated with raising a family. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by parents; brother, Richard Bernick and brother-in-law, Richard Fesenmaier.

Mrs. Mengelkoch is survived by husband, Donald; sons, William, Mike (Charlene), Mark (Bonnie), Donald and Kevin (Barbara); daughter, Brenda (Kevin); eight grandchildren and sister, Carmen Fesenmaier.

Cheryl Morrissette

Services for Cheryl Marie Morrissette, 53, of rural Maple Plain were Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Pastor Paul Marggraf officiated and interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Crawford Lake.

Casket bearers were godchildren, Randy Weege, Shawn Yeager, Jason Weege, Jeff Weege, Michael Marty, Joshua Morrissette and Erik Stumne.

Honorary casket bearers were Michelle Rasmussen, Cassie Vinson and Douglas Weege.

Mrs. Morrissette died Christmas morning, Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at her residence. She was born June 12, 1949, in Watertown, the daughter of Edwin F.C. and Virginia E.M. Batdorf Weege.

She was baptized July 10, 1949, and confirmed in the Christian faith May 5, 1963, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crawford Lake.

She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1967.

On Nov. 9, 1972, she married James E. Morrissette in Watertown, S.D. The couple had six children.

Mrs. Morrissette worked at Tonka Toys and Carlson Company, but was a homemaker most of her life.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano and had belonged to The Parents Club at Mt. Olive School.

She is survived by loving husband, James E. Morrissette; children, Stacy (Tim) Duda of Delano, Brent Morrissette of Maple Plain, James (Shana) Morrissette, Jr. of Plymouth, Josie (Clint) LaFave of Montrose, Jesse Morrissette and Steven Morrissette, both of Maple Plain; grandchildren, Ryan Duda, Brett Duda, Aaron Duda, Carter Morrissette and Jayde Morrissette; brothers, Kenny (Bonnie) Weege of Delano, Roger (Deloria) Weege of Montrose, Larry (Karen) Weege of Atlanta, Ga., and Darvin (Darcee) Weege of Rockford; sisters, Sandy (Geke) Kottke of Hanover, Barb (Dave) Yeager of Cokato, Pat (Terry) Coughlin of Darwin and Robin Vieths of Buffalo; mother-in-law, Carol M. Morrissette; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Virginia Weege; godson/nephew, Douglas Weege and father-in-law, John "Jack" Morrissette.

The family wants to thank the staff of Ridgeview Hospice, especialy Sue, Bonnie and pastor Harter and to Mrs. Morrissette's friends Karen and Rennel.

Harold Oswald

Services for Harold Charles Oswald, 76, of Corcoran were at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Rev. Steven C. Briel officiated and interment followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Ardis Radintz was the organist for the funeral service. "Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel," "On Jordan's Bank" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" were sung as congregational hymns.

Michael Williams, Steven Williams, Richard Schlegel, Todd Oswald, Kevin Oswald and Ed Schlegel served as casket bearers.

Memorials are suggested for St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church's organ fund.

Mr. Oswald passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale from complications of an aortic aneurysm.

He was born in Corcoran June 9, 1926, the son of Theodore "Ted" and Minnie Deisting Oswald.

Mr. Oswald was baptized by Rev. H. Klemp at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corcoran July 4, 1926. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by Rev. W. Barlau at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corcoran May 12, 1940. He was given Colossians 3:17 as his confirmation verse.

Mr. Oswald honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

On Oct. 1, 1978, Harold and Meryl were married at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He engaged in farming for many years and lived his entire life on his family's homestead in Corcoran.

He later was employed as a custodian from 1970 until 1991 at Osseo Junior High School.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and belonged to Ralph Priebe American Legion Post 172.

Mr. Oswald loved playing cards.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Meryl Oswald; children, Dennis Elin of Florida, Linda (Terryl) Bredenberg of Corcoran, Patricia Williams of Buffalo and Gail (John) Glauvitz of Big Lake; grandchildren, Elijah, Christopher and Jacob Glauvitz, and Justin Elin and Angela Schreves; five great grandchildren; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Theodore "Ted" and Minnie Oswald.

Samantha Jo Pahl

Sydney Amanda Pahl

The exciting moments of pregnancy have turned to sorrow and heartfelt loss, with the death of our infant twin daughters, Samantha Jo and Sydney Amanda Pahl.

Born Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, they stayed long enough to leave footprints on our hearts, before they died later that day at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Private family services were held at Lakeside Cemetery near Hancock, Minn., with Rev. Julius Miller officiating.

Survivors include their parents, Timothy and Mary (Leisenheimer) Pahl of Rockford; brother: Tanner Pahl of Rockford; grandparents, Delven and Sandy Pahl of Morris and Patricia Leisenheimer of Little Falls; great-grandparents, Joe and Nettie Wiese of Hancock; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

They were preceded in death by their grandfather, John Leisenheimer and great-grandparents, Reuben and Amanda Pahl.

Josephine Piotrowski

Services for Josephine Piotrowski, 73, of Rogers were Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at St. Martin Catholic Church of Rogers.

Interment was at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Mrs. Piotrowski died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in New Hope. She was born March 19, 1929, in Opal, Minn.

She is survived by husband, Daniel; sons, Tom (Judie) of Blaine and Jeff (Lisa) of Blaine; daughters, Debra (Raymond) Frey of Ramsey and Sandy (Neil) Weber of Rogers; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann, Eleanor, Frances, Betty, Mary, Judy and Faye; and brothers, Leo, Louie, Carl, John, George, Clarence, Bob and Danny.

She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church of Rogers.

Curtis E. Poppler

Services for Curtis E. Poppler, 58, of Montrose, were Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly.

Fr. David Barrett officiated and interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Delano American Legion Post 377.

Pallbearers were Kelly Berry, Brian Ottenstroer, Tony Poppler, Brian Gerardy, Luke Peterson and Daniel Poppler.

Mr. Poppler died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born Oct. 13, 1944 to Walter and Marcella (Meuffels) Poppler in Watkins, Minn. He was baptized Oct. 22, 1944.

Mr. Poppler served his country in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged Sept. 3, 1963. On Feb. 6, 1965 he married Joanne Gerardy and they had five daughters.

He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Marcella Poppler. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Joanne; daughters, Kathy (Brian) Ottenstroer of Little Falls, Karen (Jeff) Bergemann of Lester Prairie, Kristine Poppler of Howard Lake, Kimberly Poppler and fiancee, Luke Peterson of Buffalo, Kelly Poppler of Montrose and Kelly Berry of Glencoe; brothers and sister, Lee (Darlene) Poppler of Watertown, Shirley Johnson of Annandale and Larry (Eileen) Poppler of Montrose; grandchildren, Tania and Tiffany Ottenstroer, Krystal Berry and Kevin Poppler; father- and mother-in-law, Roger and Mary Ann Gerardy of Montrose and brother- and sister-in-law, Jerry and Susan Gerardy of Montrose.

Blake Schnappauf

Services for Blake L. Schnappauf, 41, of Rockford were Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Pastor Michael Barlow officiated and interment followed at the Elmwood Cemetery.

Barry Rathbun, Tim Kunkel, Dave Jobes, Ed Sjolin, Steve Berhow and Chris Pettit served as casket bearers.

Mr. Schnappauf died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2003, at his residence. He was born Jan. 1, 1961, in Minneapolis the Son of LuVerne and Judith Hill Schnappauf. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1979.

He was a faithful member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Mr. Schnappauf is survived by father, LuVerne C. Schnappauf of Rockford; brother, Brian L. (Colleen) Schnappauf of St. Michael; sister, Debbie Schnappauf of Apple Valley; brothers, Doug and David Schnappauf, both of Minneapolis; four nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith E. Schnappauf and nephew, Joshua.

Esther M. Secora

Services for Esther M. Secora, 92, of Montrose were Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly.

Rev. David Barrett officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandchildren, Mike Secora, Wayne Secora, Jim Johnson, Steve Johnson, Julie Maeyaert and Nancy Krippner.

Mrs. Secora died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz. She was born Aug. 5, 1910, to Oliver and Margaret (Martinka) Roban in Waverly.

She grew up and attended school in Waverly. On Nov. 26, 1930, she married Joseph Secora. She stayed at home with the family as they were growing up. In the later years, she attended the senior citizen centers in Montrose and Waverly. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Secora was preceded in death by husband, Joseph; brother, William Roban and sister, Dorothy Steinhagen. She is survived by sons, William (Barbara) Secora and Donald Secora; daughter, Mary Lou (John) Johnson; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Bernard H. Statema

Services for Bernard H. Statema, 68, of Delano, were Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

Pastor Becky Soggy officiated and interment was in the German Liberal Cemetery in Medina.

Casket bearers were Jimmy Tweedy, Jessie Tweedy, Dale Statema, Chunky Swenson, Marv Wurzer and Mike Brown.

Mr. Statema died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. He was born May 31, 1934 to Henry and Ruby (Johnson) Statema in Randall, Minn.

Mr. Statema served his country in the Navy in the 1950s and 60s, being honorably discharged in March of 1962. He liked to hunt and fish in his spare time. He was talented with working with wood, which he puttered with in his backyard workshop. He was a 20-year member of the Long Lake Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruby and brother-in-law, Gordon Ostrom. He is survived by wife of 45 years, Lorraine; sons, Don (Cindy) and Dale (Kathy); daughter, Mary (Chuck) Tweedy; grandchildren, Jessie, Jimmy, Robert, Alec and Kallie and sisters, Pat Ostrom, Carol Bernard and Bonnie (Joel) Phillippi.

Susan C. Swartzer

Services for Susan C. Swartzer, 98, of Watertown, were Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at St. Mary's of Czestochowa Church in Delano.

Fr. James Livingston officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Swartzer, Pat Lynch, Larry Bury, Alan Blackketter, Joe Swartzer, Jr., Steve Swartzer, Todd Swartzer and Dale Kuka. Honorary bearers were Donald Swartzer, Mike Windsperger, Jake Swartzer, Jamie Swartzer, Jeff Swartzer and Paul Swartzer.

Mrs. Swartzer died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born Aug. 11, 1904, to Jacob and Anna (Veaderko) Gallus in Woodland Township.

On April 28, 1925 she married George A. Swartzer and this union was blessed with 17 children. They made their home in Woodland Township, the same farm that Mrs. Swartzer was born on.

She loved to quilt and crochet, as well as baking and cooking. Five loaves of bread was the norm each day. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's of Czestochowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, Jan. 19, 1961; children, George Jr., Gladys and Donald; son-in-law, Tom Kuka; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Gallus and sisters, Agnes Gallus, Mayme Reich and Julia Neisen.

She is survived by children, Walter (Irene) Swartzer, Jack (Marguerite) Swartzer, Lorraine (Emmett) Lynch, Betty (Louis) Bury, Joe (Dorothy) Swartzer, Luverne (Leo) Blackketter, Robert (Mary Lynn) Swartzer, Marian Kuka, Marvin (Laurie) Swartzer, Susan (Ed) Windsperger, Gene (Mary Helen) Swartzer, Tony (Sandy) Swartzer, Ervin (Renee) Swartzer and Peter (Alice) Swartzer; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Swartzer; 83 grandchildren; 129 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
