Arling R. Beyer

Services for Arling R. Beyer, 75, of Delano, were Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain.

Rev. Dave Garwick officiated. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Nichole, Missi, Robert, Brittany, Nathan, Kristen, Chelsea and Ashley.

Mr. Beyer died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the Delano Healthcare Center. He was born Jan. 2, 1928 to Henry and Marth (Laufer) Beyer in Wheaton, Minn.

Mr. Beyer was an electrician and a longtime employee of Mergens Electric out of Wayzata. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Oscar Beyer; sister, Evelyn Oltmann and brothers-in-law, Harold Soderstrom and Earl Kopp.

He is survived by wife of 56 years, Jeanne; children, Gary (Karen) Beyer, Debbie (Dick) Utsch and Jeffrey (Randi) Beyer; grandchildren, Nichole, Nathan, Missi, Kristin, Robert, Chelsea, Brittany and Ashley; brother, Virgil (Ihla) Beyer and sisters, Helen Soderstrom, Inez Kopp, Lois (Chester) Hasbargen and Corrine (Stanley) Aldrich.

Loretta Covey

Private funeral services took place recently for Loretta (Wilhelm) Covey, 85, of Delano, formerly of Rio, Wis.

Mrs. Covey died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 31, 1917 in Watertown to Ambrose and Anna (Russek) Wilhelm.

She was preceded in death by husband, Adrian W. Covey. She is survived by sister, Dorothy (Loren) Schaust; nieces, Donna Nesbitt and Bonita (Steve) Meyer and nephew, Douglas (Becky) Schaust.

Elsie Emily Hackbart

Services for Elsie Emily Hackbart, 96, of River Falls, Wis., and formerly of Delano, were Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Pallbearers were grandchildren and interment was in the Mt. Olive East Cemetery.

Mrs. Hackbart died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at the River Falls Area Hospital. She was born March 11, 1907, to William and Rose (Klein) Wilde in Eden Valley, Minn. She was confirmed (in German) at the Eden Valley Lutheran Church and later married Earl Hardwick in 1937.

They made their home in Glencoe where they started their family, moving to Rochester, Minn., in 1940. In 1954 they moved to Delano, where they owned and operated the Marshall-Wells Hardware Store. Mr. Hardwick died in 1958 and she continued to operate the store for a couple years and later was employed at Jack's Grocery Store until retirement.

She married Herman Hackbart in 1968. After he died in 1986, Mrs. Hackbart continued to reside in Delano where she enjoyed her church (Mt. Olive Lutheran) and friends. She lived independently in her home until one year ago when she moved to an apartment in River Falls to be closer to family.

Her family was her greatest joy. She was a role model in her faith and character. Her church and faith were a great comfort to her throughout her life. Other interests were crocheting, knitting, reading, walking, baking and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Emma, Lydia, Mathilda and Alvina; and brothers, Albert, Edward and John.

She is survived by children, Alden (Mary) Hardwick of Crosslake, Minn. and Sandra (Ed) Schramm of River Falls; grandchildren, Randy (Mary) Schramm, Damon Schramm, Dana (Kari) Schramm, Lara (Ross) Simonson, Kirk (Joni) Hardwick, Timothy (Cheri) Hardwick and Todd Hardwick and eight great-grandchildren, Laura Hardwick, Christopher Hardwick, Kylee Schramm, Lexi Schramm, Jacqueline Schramm, James Schramm, Jaydon Simonson and Abigail Simonson.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Mrs. Hackbart's devotion to family, warm smile and compassion for others will be deeply missed.

Shirley J. LaPlante

Services for Shirley Joan LaPlante, 56, of Maple Grove were Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Interment was at St. Vincent's Cemetery in Osseo.

Mrs. LaPlante died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, in Maple Grove. She was born June 21, 1947, in Brownton.

She is survived by her husband, David; children, Russell (Kimberly), and Robert; grandchildren, Cael and Ava; brothers, Hillard (Carol), and Jerry (Orie) Kloempken; sister, Marjie (Roger) Grewe; and sister-in-law, Lois Kloempken.

Mrs. LaPlante is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie Kloempken; brother, Willard Kloempken; and step-mother, Laura.

Joel N. Johnson

Services for Joel N. Johnson, 55, of Orono, were Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Glory of Christ Lutheran Church, 4040 County Rd. 101, Plymouth.

Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, Aug. 12. He had received multiple injuries in a truck/train crash on Fathers Day, June 15, near Hwy. 55 in Medina. He was buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Odebolt High School. He obtained a business degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant. He owned and operated Johnson & Co. CPA and Five Sons Landscaping. He served as a Marine Sergeant in Vietnam and also was a reservist.

A lover of hunting trips, Mr. Johnson ventured through the Safari Club to Russia and British Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Leona. He is survived by his wife, Becky; sons, Ross, Adam and Drew; daughter, Morgan; stepsons, Zach, Tyler and Austin Gangestad; sister, Kathy Johnson; niece, Wendy Johnson and many family members and friends.

The family prefers memorials to the Joel N. Johnson Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, 900 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, MN 55391.

Amanda Kasheimer

Mass of Christian Burial for Amanda Rose Kasheimer, 10 of Rockford, were noon Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Loretto, with Rev. Brian Fier officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Lanars, David Lanars, Jerry Lanars, Dave Wiemann, Rick Jorges and Jim Kasheimer.

Amanda died suddenly Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Amanda, daughter of Howard and Nancy (Lanars) Kasheimer was born Feb. 23, 1993, in Robbinsdale, Minn.

Amanda is preceded in death by her brother, Tyler; her great-grandparents, Dora Becker, Nellie Farniok, Ben Persian, Tom Becker, Louis Lanars, George Motzko, Charlie and Agnes Schultz, Vincent and Eleanor Kasheimer; cousin, Stephen.

She is survived by her parents, Howard and Nancy; sisters, Jessica and Kayla; brother, Travis; grandparents, Ivan and Lila Lanars, Howard and Joanne Kasheimer, and Arlene Schroeder; great-grandmother, Mary Motzko; aunts and uncles, David and Debbie Lanars, Bruce and Tammy Lanars, Karen and Rick Jorges, Donna and Dave Wiemann, Linda and Pat Paine, Jerry and Nancy Lanars, Merry Lanars, Sheila and Lon Droneck, and Jim and Gabi Kasheimer, Tim Schroeder, and Scott Schroeder; cousins, Jenny, Dianna, Andy, Nicholas, Kyle, Brittany, Alicia, Danny, Michael, Zachary, Lucas, Joey, Jonathon, Benjamin, Dominic and Allen.

Marjorie Reimer

Marjorie P. Reimer, age 86 of Buffalo and formerly Plymouth, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Park View Center in Buffalo.

She was born in Champlin, MN on May 16, 1917 the daughter of Albert and Mary Jane (Paine) Peterson.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Harold E. Reimer on May 20, 1936 in Minneapolis. In her spare time Marjorie loved gardening, reading, sewing and dancing. She was a member of the Plymouth Horse Owners Club and found great joy in horses. Marjorie also found great enjoyment during her many walks and loved watching the birds.

Survived by children: Jean M. Reimer of St. Paul, Harold Reimer Jr., James H. (Doris) Reimer of Lakewood, CO., Donald P. Reimer and Richard M. Reimer both of Minneapolis, Virginia M. (Jim) Mahoney of Isle, Henry K. Reimer of Otsego, Debra S. Reimer of St. Paul and Carol L. (Greg) Hoseth of Rogers; grandchildren: Harold Reimer III and Krystal Reimer, James Reimer and Christina (Brendan) Enstrom, Lori (Craig) Dahlman, Robert (Peggy) Reimer, Connie (Chris) Reimer-Sneddon, Jodi (Steve) Roche, Wendi Reimer, Alex (Elizabeth) Reimer, Rosalyn Hoseth and Jaquelyn Hoseth; great-grandchildren: Rachel, Isaac and Luke Dahlman, Eric, Adam and Marie Reimer, Maeve and Ethan Sneddon, Lilly Snodgrass, Marcella and Sela Roche, Cecelia and Ian Reimer and Ryan Enstrom.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold on May 14, 2000, her son David, her brothers Jesse and Horace Peterson and sisters Alberta Jacobs, Vivian Harff and Ruby Nelson.

Funeral services for Marjorie P. Reimer were held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church Chapel of Plymouth, MN. Pastor Jim Nelson officiated and Karen Grimsrud was the organist.

Interment was held at Mount Olive Church Cemetery in Plymouth.

Serving as casket bearers were James Reimer, Henry Reimer, Robert Reimer, James Mahoney, Christopher Sneddon and Greg Hoseth.

Visitation was held on Friday morning one hour prior to the service at church chapel. Serving the family The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Gary W. Rustad

Services for Gary Wayne Rustad, 58, of Maple Grove were Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Osseo.

Mr. Rustad died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, in Robbinsdale. He was born June 25, 1945 in Langly Field, Va.

Mr. Rustad is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Gina (Daryl) Nesenson, and Erick Rustad; grandchildren, Crystal and Carlie Nesenson; parents, Bernie and Marlys Rustad; sisters, Sheryl (Ron) Rustad-Clarke, and Colleen (Brian) Rustad-Sampson; brother-in-law, Terry Roy Gurnaud; mother-in-law, Evelyn Gurnaud; and beloved dog, Tuffy.

Martha M. Walbolt

Services for Martha M. Walbolt, 81, of Andover, formerly of Danville and Walnut Creek, Calif., were Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Danville, Calif.

Interment was at Oakmont Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Mrs. Walbolt died Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Farmstead at Andover. She was born Feb. 4, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., to William F. Detert and Bessie (Ware).

She married David H. Walbolt and was an administrative assistant at Shell Chemical. Mrs. Walbolt volunteered with the Assistance League of Diablo Valley. She was also a founding member Messiah Lutheran Church in Danville and the Wonders of Wall Street investment club.

Mrs. Walbolt is survived by her children, Barbara Walbolt Steiner of Sherborn, Mass., Gus Walbolt of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Rev. Eric Walbolt of Champlin; and five grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David H. Walbolt.

Edward Wilken

Edward Walter Wilken, age 99 of Rockford, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Ebenezer Covenant Home in Buffalo.

He was born in Ceylon, MN on February 4, 1904 the son of Emil and Emma (Prust) Wilken. Ed was baptized on February 28, 1904 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Ceylon. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Monticello on March 24, 1918.

Edward was united in marriage to Hazel (Goetkze) on February 22, 1929 in Monticello. He operated a Hatchery in Monticello from 1926 to 1933. They then moved to and lived in the Foley area for seven years. Ed and Hazel moved back to Monticello in 1940 and this is where he lived and farmed until he retired. Hazel died on May 8, 1964. Edward then married Elsie (Wolff-Bechtle) on February 21, 1970 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

One of the things that Ed loved to talk about was that he helped build the Monticello bridge.

He is survived by wife, Elsie; children, Warren (Sharon) Wilken of Osseo, Helen Wulf of St. Michael and Ralph (Linda) Bechtle of Milaca; one brother Emil Wilken and his wife Joann; also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by: parents and his first wife Hazel, three brothers and two sisters and son-in-law Marv Wulf.

Funeral services for Edward W. Wilken were held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford, MN. Rev. Michael Barlow officiated and Janet Beise was the organist. The congregational hymns were "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "Just As I Am", "In the Garden" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again".

Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery in Monticello. After the interment a light lunch was served at the Monticello Ev. Covenant Church.

Serving as casket bearers were Tim Wilken, David Wulf, Wayne Wulf, John Bechtle, Ben Corona and Harvey Drew.

Visitation was held on Saturday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at church. Serving the family The Peterson St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Lloyd E. Wilkening

Services for Lloyd Ernest Wilkening, 78, of Mora will be Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora.

Interment will be at Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.

Reverends Stephen Blenkush and Daphne Hoff will officiate. Honorary casket bearers are Jerry Koolmo, Don Johnson, Arnold Brendalen, Gary Martens, Dick Granlund, Bill Soebbing, Larry Rowley, Einar Hovland, Jim Oxberry, Don Van Driel, Don Overson and Jamie Wright.

Mr. Wilkening died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 30, 1925, to William and Gertrude Wilkening in Welcome. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Welcome and also attended and graduated grade school in Welcome.

In 1943, he moved to Grasston and in 1945 moved to Minneapolis. Then in 1947, Mr. Wilkening moved to Mora where he remained.

On Nov. 10, 1946, he married Ardis Parson at Hope Lutheran Church in Grasston.

Throughout his life, he held many jobs. They included equipment servicing for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, a lathe operator for Benda Craft Co., and a pin setter for the Minneapolis Athletic Club.

In Mora, Mr. Wilkening worked for Land O' Lakes doing dairy insemination and also drove truck for the company. He also drove truck for the St. Cloud-Duluth Truck Line, Gorham's Inc., S/W Fleet Supply, NWLP Gas Co., and Rypkema Oil.

Mr. Wilkening was also a weldor. He welded for Blaw Knox, Vix's Manufacturing and the NWLP Gas Co. and also started his own business in welding - the Wilkening Welding Works.

He drove bus for the Mora Public Schools and the Scenic Minnesota Bus Co. He was also a custodian at the Kanabec County Court House.

Mr. Wilkening is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Ardis; sons, Weldon (Ann) of Watervliet, N.Y., Brian (Joanne) of Spearfish, S.D., and Leighton (Susan) of Minnetonka; daughter, Charlene Douglas of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Matthew Wilkening, Kristin Sorenson, Beth Wilkening, Karen Wilkening, Brent Knopp, Sarah Knopp, Brenda Wilkening, Pamela Amey and Greta Wilkening; great-grandchildren, Ashly, Alex and Natalie; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude Wilkening; and grandson, Mark Douglas.
