Royce Engstrom

Services for Royce Dean "Roy" Engstrom, 48, of Otsego were at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Deacon David Blume officiated.

The vocalists were Sarah Sandberg and Chelsie Cabak. "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung as congregational hymns.

Honorary casket bearers were Ron Engstrom, Lowell Engstrom, Bruce Berning, David Becker and Rick DeWitt.

Casket bearers were Dan Barthel, Ken DeWitt, Ryan Berning, Jim Yager, Dwaine Nordquist and Dan DeWitt.

Mr. Engstrom died Sunday, June 22.

He was born May 26, 1955, in Alexandria the son of Robert E. and Elaine R. Zimmel Engstrom.

Mr. Engsrom graduated from St. Michael-Albertville High School in 1973.

On July 9, 1994, Royce D. "Roy" Engstrom and JoAnn R. Jorgensen were joined in holy marriage in Albertville.

He was a longtime employee of Ryerson Steel Company.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast and belonged to ABATE. He was also an avid football fan.

Mr. Engstrom is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn R. Engstrom; his mother, Elaine R. Engstrom of Albertville; sisters and brothers, Jeaneen (Bruce) Berning of Annandale, Ron (Jennifer) Engstrom of St. Michael, Lowell (Alice) Engstrom of Elk River and Lynell (David) Becker of Albertville; a special niece, Kelli Jorgensen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Verta Mae Jorgensen of Pine City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet (Ken) DeWitt of Otsego, Jane (Mike) Phipps of New Market, Judy (Jeff) Bergman of Vadnais Heights, Duane (Cheri) Jorgensen of Brook Park, Jean (Lewis) McFerran of Hinckley and David (Sue) Jorgensen of Sleepy Eye; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Engstrom, Sept. 23, 1993.

Gordon E. Hilstad

Services for Gordon E. Hilstad, 78, of Maple Grove were Monday, June 30, 2003 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Interment was at Lakewood Cemetery.

Mr. Hilstad died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in Maple Grove. He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Minneapolis.

He was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

Mr. Hilstad is survived by his wife, Judy; niece and nephew; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

If so desired memorials may be given to the Gordon E. Hilstad Memorial Fund.

DeLores L. Hopkes

Services for DeLores Lucille Hopkes, 87, of Gainesville, Fla. will be today, Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Advent Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hopkes died Sunday, June 29, 2003 in Brooklyn Center. She was born Sept. 12, 1915 in Manly, Iowa.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Janice) Hopkes; grandchildren, Lori (Dan) Dehn, Steve (Janet) Hopkes and Lynda (Nick) Hinrichs; seven great-grandchildren; brother, LeMoyne (Irma) Oleson; sisters, Myra Norholm and Irene Bennett.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.

Stanley Frank Hozempa

Services for Stanley Frank Hozempa, 89, of Maple Plain, formerly of Marshall and N.E. Minneapolis, were Friday, June 27, 2003, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.

Rev. Brian Fier officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Klaers, Joshua Klaers, David Jolicoeur, Jason Jolicoeur, Jeremy Jolicoeur, Jamie Hozempa, Mike Hozempa and Rob Andrescik. Honorary pallbearers were Dillon McCallister, Logan Klaers, Noah Grothe and Zach Hozempa.

Mr. Hozempa died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain. He was born Dec. 11, 1913, in Minneapolis, the son of John and Katherine (Kuz) Hozempa.

He was preceded in death by wives, Ann (Altendorf) and Margaret (Racette); daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and James Jolicoeur and four brothers.

He is survived by daughters, Joan (Bob) Andrescik and Pat (Dick) Klaers; son, Don (Dixie) Hozempa; grandchildren: Anne Grothe, Paul Klaers, Amy Werlein, Josh Klaers and Joe Klaers, children of Pat and Dick Klaers, David Jolicoeur, Kelly Seastrom, Jamie Hozempa and Mike Hozempa, children of Don and Dixie Hozempa, Becky McCallister and Rob Andrescik, children of Joan and Bob Andrescik; great-grandchildren, Sadie Werlein, Ellie Werlein, Samantha Seastrom, Taylor Seastrom, Noah Grothe, Grace Grothe, Logan Klaers, Tia Klaers, Zach Hozempa and Dillon McCallister; sister, Phyllis Bouck and special care-giving neighbors, Tom, Phyllis, Cassie and Kim Scholtes.

Elizabeth J. Olson

Services for Elizabeth J. "Liz" Olson, 68, of Newport, formerly of Champlin were Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Newport Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Olson died unexpectedly Monday, June 23, 2003. She was born Aug. 30, 1934 in Bar-le-duc, France, the daughter of Gaston and Lucienne (Laurent) Andre. She grew up in France.

On Feb. 9, 1963 she and Lawrence Olson were married in France. Larry was serving in the U.S. Army at the time. Liz worked as a civilian employee for the Army for four years.

In 1964 they moved to Minneapolis. They also lived in Bloomington and Champlin, prior to recently moving to Newport.

She and her husband are owners of Petland in the Sun Ray Center in St. Paul.

She enjoyed cooking, house plants, gardening, crocheting and fishing on Lake Kabetogana. Her family was the center of her life.

Loving wife for 40 years of Larry; devoted mother of Phillip (Lisa) and Gregory (Andrea); dear grandmother of Bianca, Benjamin, Timothy, Jacob and an expected grandchild; and a sister in France.

Donna Ottmar

Services for Donna Ottmar, 52, of Maple Grove, formerly of Fargo, N.D. will be Thursday, July 3, 2003 at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Osseo.

Mrs. Ottmar died Saturday, June 28, 2003 in Maple Grove as a result of a car accident. She was born Feb. 11, 1951 in Breckenridge.

She is survived by her loving husband, Myron; children, Shane, Steve (Dawn) and Tonya (Pat) Hoard; siblings, Linda Formaneck, Ken Baker, Rick Baker and Randy Baker; other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ottmar is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Arlene Baker.

Richard Roland Rolf

Services for Richard Roland "Dick" Rolf, 60, were Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Revs. Paul Marggraf and Donald C. Windsperger, Jr. officiated and interment was at Mt. Olive West Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Henry Becker, Danny Drusch, Donald C. Windsperger, Jr., Randy Weege, Dale Weege, Craig "Toby" Drusch and Jason Dreger. Honorary casket bearers were grandsons, Jay Stevens, Josh Stevens, Sam Stevens and Dawson Rolf.

Mr. Rolf died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at his home with his family at his side. He was born July 4, 1942, at his parents' home two miles south of Echo, Minn. He was the son of Roland and Myra (Riebe) Rolf. Rev. Theo Bauer baptized him at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo July 26, 1942. He was confirmed in his faith June 3, 1956 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

He was united in marriage to Elaine K. Drusch Sept. 1, 1962, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. They had two children, Brenda Ann in 1964 and Allen Richard in 1968. The family made their home in Delano and remained faithful members of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Mr. Rolf was an active member there, serving on the church board, school board and several other positions over the years.

Mr. Rolf wore many hats during his life. He owned a trucking company, Rolf Transfer. He served the citizens of Delano, working at the Delano Standard Station, the Delano Feed Mill, the Delano Theatre, Delano Granite Works and the Delano Municipal Liquor Store. He loved to drive truck.

He drove several years for M.J. Litfin and had a route with Buffalo Dry Cleaners/Jaunich Delivery. He also worked by his wife's side at the Flower Farm and Butterfield Evergreens. He was most recently employed at Wagner Spray Tech in Plymouth. Mr. Rolf also served as a police officer for the village of Delano for seven years. He was also on the Delano Volunteer Fire Department and retired after 26 years of service.

Mr. Rolf was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed time at the cabin making memories with his family and spending hours with his grandchildren. He took pride in raising his fruit trees, spending hours spraying and nurturing them.

Mr. Rolf was diagnosed with lung cancer Jan. 24, 2003. Throughout his battle with cancer, he remained his family's "Rock of Gibraltar." He was continually worried more about his loved ones and their welfare than his own. He was always reminding them that God would not desert him.

He found his greatest peace and comfort in knowing and acknowledging that his children and grandchildren know their Lord and Savior. He never lost his "dry" sense of humor and carried it with him, right up until the time of his death. He leaves to his family and loved ones his own testimony of his strong faith, remarkable courage and beautiful past and present made memories.

He was preceded in death by parents, Roland H. and Myra M. Rolf; baby granddaughter, Kara Elizabeth Stevens; baby sister, Mabel; brother-in-law, Donald C. Windsperger, Sr. and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Drusch and Arlene Drusch.

He is survived by wife, Elaine; daughter, Brenda (Jon) Stevens; son, Allen (Mollie); grandchildren, Katie, Jay, Josh, Sam and Maddie Stevens and Danea, Dabrina and Dawson Rolf; sisters, Mavis Windsperger, Bonnie (Kenny) Weege and Linda Rolf; parents-in-law, Fred and Katherine Drusch; brothers-in-law, Donald (Ruby) Drusch and Harvey Drusch; great-uncle Gerhard Salzwedel; aunt, Naomi Riebe; nieces; nephews; cousins and a host of relatives and friends.

Edwin A. Weber

Services for Edwin A. Weber, 82, of St. Michael were Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant for the mass and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Katie Gardner, Beth Gardner, Candace Weber, Lisa Greninger, Jenni Erdmann, Dana Riggs, Vicki Cothran, Aliesha Dehmer, Angie Dehmer, Abby Judge, Samantha Sorensen, Emma Sorensen, Allie Kluge and Megan Kluge.

Casket bearers were Brian Gardner, Chris Gardner, Corey Greninger, Drew Durant, Colin Weber, Kurt Judge, Steve Riggs, Toby Erdmann and Dave Cothran.

Mr. Weber died Friday, June 20, at the Buffalo Hospital.

He was born Oct. 4, 1920, near Rogers, the son of William and Theresa Becker Weber.

On Oct. 4, 1949, Edwin A. Weber and Dolores A. Bongaarts were joined in holy marriage at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee. God blessed their marriage with ten children.

Mr. Weber engaged in dairy farming east of St. Michael in Hassan Township until 1964. Eddie also was a former secretary for Midland Cooperative.

He later owned and operated Eddie's Bar in St. Michael from 1964 to 1977.

Mr. Weber was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #4174, the St. Michael Society and Catholic Order of Foresters.

He is survived by his children, Charlotte (Eugene) Gardner of St. Michael, Daniel Weber of Elk River, Wayne (Maureen Endert) Weber of Bloomington, LuAnn (Gary) Greninger of Otsego, Janet (Daniel) Durant of Rogers, Karen (Paul) Dehmer of Monticello, Sandra (Terry) Judge of Champlin, Yvonne (James) Sorensen of Otsego, Cynthia (David) Kluge and Steven (Joyce) Weber, all of Becker; 18 grandchildren, Brian (Beth) Gardner, Chris Gardner and Katie Gardner, Candace Weber and Colin Weber, Corey (Lisa) Greninger, Jenni (Toby) Erdmann, Dana (Steve) Riggs, Vicki (Dave) Cothran and Drew Durant, Aliesha Dehmer and Angie Dehmer, Kurt Judge and Abby Judge, Sam Sorensen and Emma Sorensen, Allie Kluge and Megan Kluge; five great-grandchildren, Jack Gardner and Cole Gardner, Tyson and Devon Erdmann and Dominic Severson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gordon (Helen) Bongaarts of Hanover, Rose (Donald) Becker of Rogers, Donna Becker of St. Michael and Helen (Al) Breeggemann of Shakopee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores A. Weber, April 2, 2001; father, William Weber in 1928; and mother, Theresa Weber in 1959.

The Weber family would like to thank Ebenezer Covenant Home for its wonderful care of Eddie.

Raymon Boese

Services for Raymon Boese Jr., 66, of Champlin were Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Lutheran Church of the Master in Brooklyn Center.

Mr. Boese died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Champlin.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Christine (Curt) Dinzl, Mary Boese, Sharon Boese-Formato, Daniel Boese; stepchildren, Keith (Di) Anderson, Eric Anderson, and Russ (Lynn) Anderson; grandchildren, Derek, Rebecca, Mattea, Connor, Milo and Olivia; brothers, Dennis and Keith; sisters, Beverly (Lyle) Zoekl and Jackie (Dennis) Kotloski.

He was preceded in death by parents, Raymond, Sr. and Gladys Boese.

Memorials preferred to the Raymond J. Boese Jr. Memorial Fund.

Rollin B. Child

Services for Rollin B. Child, 88, of Flordia were Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Hopkins United Methodist Church.

Interment was at Grandview Cemetery.

Mr. Child died Monday, June 9, 2003. He was born May 9, 1915, in Findlay, Ohio.

Mr. Child was the former owner of Rollin B. Child, Inc., a distributor of ceramic tile, and related products in the Midwest.

He is survived by his sons, R. Tom Child (Grace) of Maple Grove, and Rodger E. Child (Terry) of Washburn, Wis.; daughter, Nancy C. Johnson of Sebastian, Fla.; brother, E. Tom Child (Geraldine) of Findlay, Ohio; brother, Harold "Hal" Child (Ellen) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister, Anne (Dr. Jerry) Sheaffer of Findlay, Ohio; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Child is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; father, D. Earl Child; mother, Anna B. Child; sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Dr. John F. Loyd; and son-in-law, Steven C. Johnson.

He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1937 with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration and a minor in political science. He moved to Hopkins in 1947 and served as a member of the Hopkins School Board from 1951-71, including eight and half years as chairman.

Mr. Child was a founding member of two trade organizations, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute and the National Association of Floor Covering Distributors.

He also helped found Chapel View, Inc., a non-profit nursing home and senior apartment complex in Hopkins, and served as a member of the Methodist Hospital Board of Trustees for 13 years. He was a member of Hopkins Methodist church for more than 50 years.

Mr. Child was a member of the Rotary Club of Hopkins for more than 50 years, and served as president of that organization from 1954 to 55. He enjoyed fishing and boating and cruising on the Great Lakes. In 1974 he helped organize the Madeline Island Yacht Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hopkins United Methodist Church, Rotary Foundation Rotary Club of Hopkins or donor's choice.
