Malinda Schleif

Services for Malinda A. M. Schleif, 98, formerly of Rockford, were Friday, May 9, 2003, at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Hope.

Rev. Dennis C. Klatt officiated and interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Pam Peterson was the organist for the funeral service. "Just as I Am, Without One Plea" and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" were sung as congregational hymns.

Casket bearers were Mark Peterson, Kenneth Schultz, Kenneth Koehler, Daniel Wild, Richard Sundt, Donald Vergin and Richard Frykman.

Mrs. Schleif died Monday evening, May 5, 2003, at the Crystal Care Center. She was born April 28, 1905, in Triumph, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Tekla Hoovet Wild.

On Oct. 25, 1930, Malinda Wild and Elmer Schleif were joined in holy marriage. Through the years, Mrs. Schleif was involved in the family businesses: Schleif's Garage and Schleif's Hardware Store, both in Rockford.

She was a former member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford and belonged to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Hope.

Mrs. Schleif is survived by a son, David E. (Barbara) Schleif of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael, Morgan and Julie Schleif; three great grandchildren; a great, great grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elmer C. Schleif Aug. 30, 1982; her parents, Charles and Tekla Wild; six brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested for the American Cancer Society.

John J. "Jack" Schoen

Services for John J. "Jack" Schoen, 65, of St. Michael were at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Rev. Michael Becker and Rev. Leonard Siebenaler were the Concelebrants for the Mass and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.

Friends called at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home Friday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Prayer Service was held at 7:30 p.m.

Casket bearers were Mr. Schoen's five sons and son-in-law.

Mr. Schoen died of lung cancer at his home Tuesday evening, April 29.

He was born Feb. 11, 1938, in Watkins the son of Hib and Mildred Borman Schoen.

He graduated from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring in 1957 and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

On Sept. 3, 1960, Jack Schoen and Milly Simon were joined in holy marriage at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. God blessed their marriage with six children.

Mr. Schoen owned and operated the Schoen Electric for many years.

He was a faithful member of the St. Michael Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 4174.

Mr. Schoen is survived by wife, Milly Schoen; children, Mike Schoen of St. Michael, Sandy (Jerry) Lindenfelser of Otsego, Pat (Nadine) Schoen of St. Michael, Jeff (Betty) Schoen of Otsego, Jon (Kris) Schoen and Gary (Amy) Schoen, all of St. Michael; 15 grandchildren; stepfather, Gene Schreiner of Watkins; sisters, Betty Gorton, Peggy Shaw and Evelyn Gagnon; brothers, Charlie and Willie Schoen; his dog, Maggie; many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by parents, Hib and Mildred Schoen; a brother, Michael Schoen; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albin and Leona Simon.

Brittney L. Van Havermaet

Services for Brittney L. Van Havermaet, 17, were Thursday, May 15, 2003 at First Lutheran Church of Crystal.

Brittney died Saturday, May 10, 2003. She was born April 21, 1986.

She is survived by her parents, Paul and Michelle; brother, Matthew, all of Maple Grove; grandparents, Tom and Linnette Horn of Maple Grove, and Francis and Sonja Van Havermaet of Camano Island, Wash.; aunts and uncles and cousins, Mark and Lynn Horn (Gina and Samantha), John and Melanie Gilbert (Erik and special cousin/friend/classmate Stephanie), Melissa and Karl Larson (Lea), Tracy and Todd Schroedl (Trevor-Trent), Peter and Jean Van Havermaet (Michael, Lori, Mike, Elizabeth), Julie and John Goetzinger (Chelsey and Mercede) Francis and Sur Van Havermaet (Adam, Brooke, Katie, Ali), Mark Van Havermaet and Bruce Van Havermaet (Elizabeth); very close and special friends, Jordan Pollock, Paul Joelson, Angie Hanson; dance instructor, Corrie Rolf, and fourth daughter to Larry and Sur Hanson; many other very special friends from Maple Grove High School and Northland School of Dance.

Bruce Betker

Services for Bruce Kenneth Betker, 55, of Corcoran were Thursday April 24, 2003, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, and also Friday, April 25, at Faith Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

Mr. Betker, born in Hutchinson, died Easter Sunday April 20, surrounded by his wife and family. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Betker; and nephew, Timothy Plihal.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 31 years, Judy; children, Adam (JuliAnn), Michael and Bethany; mother, Pearl Betker; sister, Sharon (Steve) Olson, many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the family.

Robert L. Binomaki

Services for Robert Lawrence Binomaki, 72, were held recently at the Chapel of the Erickson Crawley Funeral Home in Calumet.

Mr. Binomaki passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Portage Health System of Hancock, Mich.

He was born Oct. 5, 1930, in Laurium, the middle son of the late Alma and Toivo Binomaki of Allovez.

Mr. Binomaki attended the Calumet Public Schools. He married Shirley Kolb on Jan. 12, 1952, in Calumet. She died four and a half years ago.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict in Germany. He was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet.

Mr. Binomaki is survived by his son, Robert Jr.; daughter, Diane McMahon; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Taylor McMahon; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and cousin, Karl John (Binomaki) Hill of Maple Grove.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Toivo Binomaki; and brothers, Thomas and Henry.

Gladys A. Bliss

Services for Gladys A. Bliss, 85, of Lake Ridge Health Care Center in Roseville, formerly of Berkshire Residence in Osseo, were Friday, April 25, 2003, at First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mrs. Bliss was a proud WAC Veteran of WWII.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Nielsen and Sandy (Butch) Norby; grandchildren, Chris and Katie Norby, Jeff (Shelly) and Steve (Deb) Nielsen, and their father Don; great-grandsons, Jacob and Adam Nielsen; brother, Oliver (Donna) Olson; and sister, Mina Neuenfeldt.

Mrs. Bliss is preceded in death by her husband, Warren in 1993; son, Mark in 1971; parents, John and Olga Olson; and sister, Myrtle Paradise.

Bernice Gelle

Services for Bernice Gelle, 88, of Osseo were Monday, April 28, 2003, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Osseo.

Interment was at St. John's Cemetery in Corcoran.

Mrs. Gelle died Thursday, April 24, 2003, in Rogers. She was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Maple Grove.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a life-long resident of the Maple Grove-Osseo area.

Mrs. Gelle is survived by her children, Carol and Dale Emmans of Osseo, and Loren and Bonnie Gelle of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Cari and Gabe Gelle, Marg Petersen, Nora Kosloski, Paula Schmidt and Leah Olson; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Camille, Elise and Corrine, Noah, Sophie, and Aaron, Olivia and Reed; and brother, Rollie Rambow of Osseo.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted; and brothers, Marvin and Arnie.

Memorials may be given to the Bernice H. Gelle Memorial Fund.

Fern C. Halverson

A memorial service for Fern C. Halverson, 85, of Maple Grove was Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park.

Mrs. Halverson died Monday, April 21, 2003.

She is survived by her son, James (Kristine); brother, Charles R. Pihl and family.

Mrs. Halverson is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip.

The family prefers memorials and gifts to Living Word Christian Center, Halverson Ministry Memorial Fund.

Earl W. Hulbert

Services for Earl W. Hulbert, 89, of Maple Grove were Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Osseo.

Interment was at Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Hulbert was a charter member of the Carpenters Union 1865 for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; son, Bill (Susan) Hulbert of Brooklyn Park; daughter, Donna (Allan) Thompson of Crystal; cousins, Pat Kohanek and Gwen Krier; grandchildren, Tom Thompson, Kris (Darren) Henry, Bridget Hulbert and Travis Hulbert; great-grandchildren, Matt Thompson and Joey Robbe.

Mr. Hulbert is preceded in death by his parents, Avery and Vera; and grandson, Robert Thompson.

Ruth Hughes

Services for Ruth Hughes, 88, of Delano, formerly of Buffalo and Brooklyn, N.Y. were Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Interment was in the Delano Public Cemetery in Delano. Pallbearers were: Theresa Morganson, Thomas Reyna, Bonita Berg, Edward Hughes, Jamie Hughes, Steven Reyna, and Dennis Reyna.

Mrs. Hughes died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia. She was born May 10, 1914, to Gustav and Otelia (Schatschieder) Green in New York, N.Y.

She spent the majority of her time studying the bible, reading and paying devotion to God. She also enjoyed music, movies, TV, pets, playing cards, listening to the radio, traveling and spending time with others.

She was a great cook who enjoyed serving others. She was employed as a housekeeper for most of her life, and was known as an independent thinker with a sharp wit.

Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Otelia Green; her husband, Thomas Christefer Hughes; and sons, Edward J. Hughes and Thomas Hughes II.

She is survived by her daughters, Lauretta Hughes-Lopez (Nacho), and Dorothy Hughes-Reyna; sons, Christopher L. (Judy) Hughes, and Ronald Hughes; grandchildren, Juanita, Felecita, Melody, Lauretta, Michelle, Marie, and Ricky Hughes-Lopez, Bonita, Robert, Thomas, and Denise Hughes-Reyna, Edward I., Melanie, John, Heather, and Sean Hughes, Thomas Hughes III and Ronda Hughes, Adam, Ryan, and Wyatt Hughes, Kelly and Deadra Hughes; 37 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Blanche Habisch

Services for Blanche Elaine Habisch, 78, of Watertown, formerly of Norwood, were Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Father Frank Wampach officiated at the Mass and at the committal service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Pallbearers were Lauren Habisch, Nicholas Habisch, Robert Strei, James Strei, Donald Habisch and Paul Stoler.

Mrs. Habisch died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. She was born March 20, 1925, to Bernard and Lena (Mielke) Rother in Camdon Township.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Lena Rother; a grandson, Lucas Habisch; and her brother-in-law Roland Strei.

She is survived by her husband, Walter of 58 years; one daughter, Bernadette Habisch; one son, Mark and Jodi Habisch; two grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas Habisch; and one sister, Dorothy Strei.

Travis Knapp

Services for Travis Benjamin Knapp, 15, of Greenfield were Friday, April 25, at Village Evangelical Free Church in Independence.

Interment was in the Delano Public Cemetery.

Travis is survived by his parents, Joe and Debbie Knapp; brother, Justin Knapp; grandparents, Dick and Georgie Knapp of Excelsior and Carol Hough of Excelsior; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Diabetes Association.

Margaret J. Lindgren

Services for Margaret J. Lindgren, 84, of Watertown and formerly of Minneapolis, Roseville and Buffalo, were Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Delano Evangelical Free Church.

Chaplain John Mulvihill and Rev. Peter Johannsen officiated.

Mrs. Lindgren died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Elim Home. She was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Wolverton, Minn., the daughter of Emanuel and Hannah Nelson Sundstrom.

She was joined in marriage to Elmer G. Lindgren Oct. 2, 1942, in Wolverton. They had one daughter.

Mrs. Lindgren was formerly employed at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis as a seamstress and housekeeper. She was a faithful member of the Delano Evangelical Free Church. Through the years, she also taught Sunday school and chaired many women's organizations of the church.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Goodwin of Watertown; granddaughter, Erin of Chester, Pa.; grandson, Todd of Bloomington; brother, Carrold of Wolverton; sisters, Delores Roos of Victorville, Calif., Avis (Joe) Goodwin of St. Helens, Ore., and Amy (Harold) Sorvik of Vadnais Heights; sister-in-law, Beulah Mae Sundstrom of Austin, Texas; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elmer G. Lindgren Nov. 6, 1985; parents, Emanuel and Hannah Nelson Sundstrom and three brothers.
