Rev. Paul R. Settergren officiated and interment followed at the Hanover Village Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Ricky Leffler, Scott Peterson, Joe Klersy, Erick Schalo, Tony Faue and Timmy Forsell.

Mrs. Schalo died Easter Sunday, April 20. She was born in rural Corcoran Township, Hennepin County, Oct. 5, 1905, to Louis and Lydia (Modrow) Reinking. On Nov. 12, 1905, she was baptized into God's family by Rev. Fackler at St. John's Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

In 1911, she began first grade at Dist. 66 in rural Corcoran. In 1915 she entered fifth grade at St. John's parochial school in Maple Grove, where only German, no English, was taught and spoken. She was confirmed at St. John's April 2, 1918, by Rev. Fackler. In September 1918 she re-entered Dist. 66 to finish eighth grade and graduated in May 1919. Students who graduated were taken to the amusement park in Excelsior, where they received their diplomas.

On April 2, 1924, she was united in marriage to William Schalo by Rev. E.G. Natsheim in his home in north Minneapolis which they arrived at by horse and sleigh going through the snow. This union was blessed with seven children.

Mr. and Mrs. Schalo farmed and lived in the area of Rogers and Corcoran. While working as a housekeeper, homemaker and performing farm chores, she reared her children to become good Christians, honest and compassionate by setting the ideal example in her own life.

She had a love for the earth which showed through her abundant vegetable and flower gardens. Her flower gardens were her pride and joy even though a pet goat once ate many of her flowers.

Her cooking and baking skills (especially kolackies, buns and cinnamon rolls) were enjoyed by countless people over the years, both at her home and at many community gatherings. The kitchen was her domain but she also enjoyed camping, fishing and the great outdoors.

The third child of five, she enjoyed a close and loving relationship with her sisters and their husbands and with her brother and his wife.

In June 1994 she moved into North Ridge Care Center in New Hope, where she resided until her death. Along with her two sisters, Sylvia and Emma, who also resided at North Ridge, she participated in many activities including the lunch bunch and cook and chat sessions, and many afternoons could be found playing cards with them at the round table.

To Mrs. Schalo, North Ridge and Room 266 was her home and thanks to her daughter, Barb Lavine, her room was always decorated with that certain touch like no other. She was adored by the staff, and Mrs. Schalo always had "treats" to share with them as a "thank you" for all the loving attention they gave her.

In her journey through life, she touched many hearts with her goodness, positive ways, and kind words. Her heart was always there with love. Her mind was always open to listening and giving advice when warranted. If help was needed, regardless of the situation, she was always the first one there with a helping hand in her own loving way, no matter what the occasion or who needed the assistance.

Mrs. Schalo was considered "Aunt Lillie" or "Grandma" by her contemporaries and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William G. Schalo Sr. in 1986; a brother; two sisters; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Schalo, Mark R. Peterson and Cynthia Schalo; two great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Darlene Schalo, Carol Schalo and Charlotte Schalo; two sons-in-law, Bill Forsell and Alvin Klersy; a daughter, Betty Ann Klersy; and a son, Donald Schalo.
