Gerald O'Donnell Sr.

Services for Gerald L. O'Donnell Sr., 83, formerly of Okeechobee, Fla., were Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

Rev. Michael Becker and Rev. Leonard Siebenaler were the Concelebrants and interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.

Readers for the mass were granddaughters, Theresa Eicher and Leah Hyde. Mass servers were great grandchildren, Kasandra Barthel, Krista Barthel and Bryan Holland. Gift Bearers were granddaughters, Jeannie Holland, Lorianne Ende, Anne Tiernan, Dawn Boraas, Lisa Dawson, Jamie Kolstad and Nicole O'Donnell.

Honorary urn bearers were grandsons, Keith Barthel, Kerry Barthel, Tim Barthel, Kelly O'Donnell, Chad O'Donnell, Ryan O'Donnell, Jarrett O'Donnell, Matt Fisher and Andy Fisher.

Mr. O'Donnell died Saturday, Nov. 13, at Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Elk River. He was born June 10, 1921, in Forest Lake, Minn., the son of Martin Edward and Augusta C. Raitz O'Donnell.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Bronze Star.

On June 4, 1943, Gerald L. O'Donnell and Dolores Marie McCoy were joined in holy matrimony at Fort Lewis, Wash. Throughout their married life, they lived in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Oregon, Minnesota and Florida.

Mr. O'Donnell worked at various jobs but his main vocation was as a self-employed carpenter/handy man. It was after retirement that he found his greatest joy, working for various volunteer activities. Mr. and Mrs. O'Donnell, with the help of many other volunteers, founded and ran the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Okeechobee, Fla. He also worked with hospice, assisted with the postal workers' food drives, the Salvation Army, Martha's House and the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC).

Mr. O'Donnell battled with cancer for a relatively short period but continued to bring his sense of joy and laughter to all he encountered in his final days. Many thanks were sent to the staff at the Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Elk River for the loving care they provided.

Mr. O'Donnell was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores O'Donnell; children, Kathy (Duane) Barthel of St. Michael, Gerald (Sharon) O'Donnell, Jr., of Hollywood, Fla., Patricia (Tom) Cremers of Paynesville, Timothy (Debbie) O'Donnell of Douglasville, Ga., Brian (Merry) O'Donnell of Elk River, Mary Lambert (Jim Pringle) of Clearwarter, Bridget (Douglas) White of Columbia Heights and Paul (Eddi) O'Donnell of Boca Raton, Fla; 30 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, John O'Donnell, Ruth Young, Betty Jensen, Joanne Nielsen, Ed O'Donnell and Dorothy Norton; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Thomas O'Donnell Dec. 16, 1998, his parents and by five brothers and sisters.

Mata Kothrade

Services for Mata Kothrade, 102, were Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. The Rev. Steven C. Briel officiated.

Luke Dahl was the organist for the funeral service. Congregational hymns were "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty," "Rock of Ages Cleft for Me" & "Abide With Me! Fast Falls the Eventide."

Casket Bearers were Mark Anderson, Dennis Stieg, Tad Stieg, David Berndt, Loren Kothrade and Michael Kothrade.

She was buried at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Kothrade (nee Eggert) died Friday, Nov. 5, at Maranatha Care Center in Brooklyn Center. She was born April 18, 1902, with the birth name Mata Auguste Alivine Eggert in Plymouth Township, Hennepin County, Minn., to her parents Fredrick Eggert and his wife Hulda (nee Neitzel).

She was born again to be God's own child by "washing of water with the word" when she was baptized by the Rev. John Fackler May 31, 1902. She was also instructed in the Lutheran doctrine and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. John Fackler April 16, 1916, promising to suffer all, even death, rather than fall away from the Christian faith.

On Sept. 26, 1923, Mata Eggert and Harry W. Kothrade were joined in marriage at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She was a loving, caring person providing a home for rural school teachers and helping her husband while they farmed.

In 1952, she moved to her home in Osseo/Maple Grove.

She was a lifelong, faithful member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. By God's grace, she died as the oldest member of the congregation. She was survived by nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Geneva Coome; and many friends.

She will be remembered as a kind and generous person, loved and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Kothrade, who died Dec. 25, 1946; brothers, Henry, August, Frank, Herman, Albert and Paul; and sisters, Valuka, Ida, Emma and Ann.

Richard Hertaus

Service for Richard Hertaus, 76, of Elk River, formerly of Rogers, were Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, Elk River.

Interment was at St. Martin's Cemetery, Rogers.

Mr. Hertaus is preceded in death by his wife, Irma.

He is survived by children, Louise (Kevin) Ahner, Allen, Dennis, and Ron (Heather); also survived by his grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor (Elmer) Boegeman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Alexander Weidenbach

Services for Alexander F. "Alex" Weidenbach, 89, of Osseo and formerly of Crystal were Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

Mr. Weidenbach was born near Lake Sarah in Hennepin County May 20, 1915, the son of Edward and Cornelia Van Lith Weidenbach.

On Oct. 15, 1955, Alexander Weidenbach and Myrtle C. Droneck were joined in holy marriage.

Mr. Weidenbach was employed for many years as a carpenter's foreman for Cedar Strand Construction Company. He was also a lifetime member of Carpenter's Union 851.

He is survived by loving wife, Myrtle C. Weidenbach; children, David (friend, Maggie) Weidenach of Minneapolis, Frances (Robert) Somore of Baton Rouge, La., and Mark (Becky) Weidenbach of Osseo; grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Weidenbach; stepsister, Marie (Leonard) Novakowski of Edina; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Marcella; sons, Edward and John; a grandson, Sean Sonmore; parents, Edward and Cornelia; a sister, Cecelia Brown; a brother, Edward; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Weidenbach; and a stepsister, Betty DuBoy.

Mr. Weidenbach's family wishes to thank Dr. Guerrero and the loving and caring staff of the Berkshire Residence of Osseo.

Adam Thames

Services for Adam Nathaniel Thames, 24, of Rogers were Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Edinbrook Church, Brooklyn Park.

Mr. Thames died Thursday, Nov. 4.

He loved words and books, humor and wit, rocks and skies, football, his family and most of all, his son, Zenith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Warren Sipe

Services for Warren O. Sipe, 81 of Rogers were Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at the Church of St. Austin, 4050 Upton Ave. N., Minneapolis.

He is survived by beloved wife of 59 years, Harriet: children, Judi (Gary) Jarva, Robert (Marilyn) Sipe, Pauline (Paul) Havelak, Kathleen (Gordon) Davis, Christine (Rick) Jahner, and Randy (Traci) Sipe; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was a retired truck driver of Bertelson Office Products, member of the Local 638 Teamsters Union, and a member of the Northside K of C 4451.

A special thank you to Mary Zieba, R.N., and the entire staff at North Hospice.

Entombment is at Gethsemane Mausoleum.

Germaine Dunn

Services for Germaine Thresia Dunn, 81, of Worthington, were Nov. 2, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Worthington.

Mrs. Dunn died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Crossroads Care Center, Worthington. Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Nobles County, she was the daughter of Fredo and Methilda Hebbelman Hartman. She married Gaylon Dunn May 1, 1947, in Texas. He died in 1988.

She attended parochial school in St. Kilian. Following marriage, Germaine and Gaylon lived in Texas until 1950, when they moved to Worthington. She was a waitress for a few years and worked for Campbell Soup Co. until retirement. She had been a Crossroads Care Center resident since 1987.

Surviving Mrs. Dunn are son, Bill (Dawn) Dunn, grandsons Troy and Scottie and great grandson Aaron of Rockford.

Adam Thames

Services for Adam Nathaniel Thames, 24, were Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Edinbrook Church in Brooklyn Park.

He was a precious and beloved son, brother, daddy, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Adam loved words and books, humor and wit, rocks and skys, football, his family and most of all his son, Zenith. No words or books will ever tell how much we will miss him and the joy and beauty he brought us. He was a gift from our savior Jesus Christ in whose presence he now abides.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.

George E. Vargason

Services were held for George E. Vargason, 88, of Delano, Minn. were held Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Delano.

Pastor Ralph Erickson officiated the service.

He was preceded in death by his Delaine, his brother Alvin and his sisters Margie Snyder and Evelyn Nelson preceded him in death.

George was born on May 3, 1916 in Pomeroy, Iowa. In 1928 his family moved to Meeker County and the Litchfield area.

He served with the U.S. Army during WW II. Following his discharge from military duty, he returned to the Litchfield area.

On Nov. 3, 1955 he was married to Delaine Kutzke in Mason City, Iowa. They have lived in Delano for the past 20 years.

George passed away early Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud.

Prior to his retirement, George was employed by Industrial Louver Company of Delano.

For over 40 years he had been a summer resident of the Lakedale Campground at Dassel. This campground and the people were very important to him. He enjoyed fishing on Long Lake and listening to old-time polka music.

George was a member of the American Legion in Delano and the Delano Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his son Gary and Pat Vargason of St. Cloud; stepchildren Diane and Bob Skogman of Isle and Jim and Wendy Kutzke of Montrose; grandchildren Eve and John Chisholm of Sartell, Tara Vargason of St. Cloud, Hallie and Randy Dufner of Kimball, Jordan and Deb Vargason of Duluth and John and Serena Vargason of Kentucky; step-grandchildren Robert and Joanna Skogman of Florida and Derrick and Vicki Skogman of Aitkin, eight grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mata A.C. Kothrade

Services for Mata A.C. (nee Eggert) Kothrade, 102, of Osseo/Maple Grove were Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Mrs. Kothrade's mortal remains will rest in the cemetery at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church until the day of the resurrection of all flesh.

She is survived by nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Geneva Comme; and many friends.

Mrs. Kothrade is preceded in death by her husband, Harry F.W. Kothrade; parents, Fredrick and Hulda Eggert; brothers, Henry, August, Frank, Herman, Albert and Paul; sisters, Valuka, Ida, Emma and Ann.

Magdalene E. Nelson

Services for Magdalene Eunice Nelson, 81, of Maple Grove were Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Osseo.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in New Hope. She was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Ferney, S.D.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Steve) Masica of Corcoran; granddog, Rusty; sister-in-law, Joyce Funk of Cheyene, Wyo.; two nephews and one niece.

Mrs. Nelson is preceded in death by her first husband, Eldred Vernon Peterson; and second husband, Robert Allen Nelson.
