Benny P. Johnson

A memorial service for Benny P. Johnson, 81, of Maple Grove, formerly of Cambridge, was Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Home in New Hope.

He passed away on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.

Mr. Johnson served in the Asian-Pacific Theater of World War II. He was the Twins' greatest fan. He was a warm and loving man who cared for everyone. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

Special thanks from the family to all at Wildflower Lodge for the loving care they gave him. And very special thanks to Andy for his excellent care and loving concern for Mr. Johnson.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Kathleen); daughter, Melanie (Bruce) Anderson; sister, Doris Katzel; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Steven, Brandt, Nichole and Nathan; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his wife, Alzina; his grandson, Michael; his parents; his three brothers and seven sisters.

Marlys (Campbell) Bundtzen Rich

Services for Marlys (Campbell) Bundtzen Campbell Rich, 76, of Maple Grove were Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park.

Mrs. Rich went home to be the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004.

She graduated from the MN School of Business. She became an administrative secretary for the school system, sold real estate and ended her career in January 2004 as a management loan processor.

She will be deeply missed by daughter, Debbie (Paul) Johnson; son, Richard Campbell; brother, Earl Rich; grandchildren, Kelly and Brad Johnson, Amber and Heather Campbell; other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Rich is preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Campbell and Robert Bundtzen; parents, Archie and Edna Rich; brother, Duane (Arlene) Rich; and sister-in-law, Dodie Rich.

Doreen A. Ojanpera

Doreen A. Ojanpera age 84 of Westwood Care Center in St. Louis Park, formerly of Cokato and Delano. Doreen was born March 5, 1920 to Peter L. and Amanda (Dahl) Johnson in Cokato Township, Minnesota.

Doreen was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, daughter Janet Burau and son-in-law David Carlock. She is survived by her daughters Judy Carlock, and Mary and Otto Conzet, son Charles and Denise Ojanpera, 9 grandchildren: Jacqueline Carlock, Todd Carlock, Allyson Roskop, Kristine and Dan Hemauer, Sandy and Joe Theisen, Kimberly and Sam Gascoigne, Kellie Ojanpera, Racquel Burau, and Tiffany Burau, 2 great grand daughters Alexis and Madison Hemauer, son-in-law Roger Burau.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the North Crow River Lutheran Church in Cokato, Minnesota. Visitation was held on Friday afternoon and evening and the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota. Rev. Mike Nelson officiated at the service with music provided by Lynda Peterson organist, and Harvey Peterson soloist with congregational singing. Casket bearers were Doreen's Grandchildren: Jacqueline Carlock, Todd Carlock, Allyson Roskop, Kristine Hemauer, Sandy Theisen, Kimberly Gascoigne, Kellie Ojanpera, Racquel Burau, and Tiffany Burau.

Arrangements by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota.

Raymond Henry Bentz

Services for Raymond Henry Bentz, 78, of Delano, were held Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Reverend Paul Marggraf officiated the service and internment was held at the W. Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Mr. Bentz died Saturday August 28 from natural causes. He was born May 11, 1926 to Herman and Mary (Weller) Bentz in Mora, Minn.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine, daughters Carol and Dave Ketcham, Joyce and Ron Minard, Diane and Jan Pierce and Donna Bentz, sister Lois Bentz and sister-in-law Mary Lou Speer, nine grandchildren: Elizabeth, Nicholas, Matthew, Michelle and William Wefel, Peter and Daniel Ketcham, Sara and Jennifer Pierce, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bentz was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Bentz, brothers Giltert and James, and sisters Elvera and Lillian Jaekel.

Bradley Amundson

Services for Bradley Amundson, 16, of Champlin were Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Eternal Hope Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park.

Interment was in the Champlin Cemetery.

Bradley drowned Aug. 22, 2004, while working as a camp counselor near Detroit Lakes. He will be remembered for his loving hugs and ever-present smile. He was a friend to everyone he met.

Bradley is survived by his parents, Bruce and Joni; brother, Ben; sisters, Jennifer, Jesi and Jo-Jo; grandparents, Don and Patsy Clow, and Jerome and Evelyn Amundson; great-grandmother, Elsie Meier; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; also by his pet dogs Kodiak and Gus.

Memorials preferred to the Bradley Amundson Memorial Fund, First Community Credit Union, in Champlin.

Willard E. Weinand

Services for Willard E. Weinand, 78, of Rogers were Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. Rev. Carl Eeman officiated and interment followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Colleen Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. Congregational hymns were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "On Eagles' Wings" and "Amazing Grace".

Casket bearers were Kenny Weinand, Kelly Weinand, Jeff Schalo, Marty Miller, Loren Miller and Mark Pogreba.

Mr. Weinand died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 18, in Baudette.

He was born May 1, 1926, in Corcoran the son of Arthur and Esther A. Bursch Weinand.

He was baptized May 30, 1926, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church July 2, 1939.

He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1944.

In 1947 Vivian E. Lucier and Willard E. Weinand were joined in holy marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. God blessed their marriage with three sons. Vivian preceded her husband in death May 22, 1999.

On June 23, 2000, Willard E. Weinand and Nellie D. Olson were joined in holy marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

He farmed in Corcoran near Burschville. He also engaged in trucking for many years.

Mr. Weinand was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. He served as a church trustee, an usher and church treasurer for many years.

He was a charter member of the Hanover Lions Club and belonged to the Pioneer Society. He also enjoyed playing cards.

Mr. Weinand is survived by wife, Nellie D. Weinand; sons: Kevin (Mary) Weinand and Steve (Deb) Weinand, all of Rogers, and Allan Weinand of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Ronald, Kelly, Rosemary, Kenneth, Suzanne and JoAnna; one great-grandson, Zachary Weinand; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Miller; aunts, Florence Humphries and Ruth Michaelis; a step daughter, Carol (Al) Siegel; a step-daughter-in-law, Julie Olson; five step grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Mr. Weinand was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Weinand, Jan. 2, 1979, and Esther Bursch Weinand Nov. 2, 1983.

Kevin R. Dougherty

Services for Kevin Robert Dougherty, 47, of Hanover and longtime owner of the Hilltop Bar in Hanover was Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at the Church of St. Michael.

Reverend Michael Becker officiated. Interment followed at the Hanover Village Cemetery.

Brent Radeke was the soloist and Emily Mayer also played the flute for the mass.

Honorary casket bearers were Jack Holland, Melissa Holland, Beth Radeke, Kimberly Dougherty and Molly Dougherty. Casket bearers were Bob Martin, Kevin Dougherty, John Franczak, David Mayer, Joe Franczak, Andy Franczak and Keith Radeke.

Mr. Dougherty died suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, while camping. He was born Sept. 2, 1956, in Robbinsdale the son of Thomas R. and A. Lucille Church Dougherty.

He graduated from Cooper High School in New Hope in 1975.

Mr. Dougherty enjoyed playing softball and coaching Hanover Youth. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his children, Kayleen, Ryan and Katie Dougherty; mother, Lucille Dougherty; sisters and brothers, Patty (Glenn) Mayer, Mary (Don) Franczak, Maureen (Clyde) Martin, Colleen (Jeff) Radeke, Eileen (Todd) Holland, Dean (Rose) Dougherty and Tom Dougherty; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Dougherty is preceded in death by his father, Thomas R. Dougherty; and nephew, Matthew Holland.

Peggy M. Gess

Graveside services for Peggy M. Gess, 88, of Rockford, were Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Reverend Henry J. Fry officiated.

Mrs. Gess died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Monticello-Big Lake Hospital. She was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Marysville, Wash., daughter of Joseph and Annie Bullo Gyorog.

She was united in marriage to John A. Gess on Jan. 5, 1955, in Mason City, Iowa.

Mrs. Gess liked people and was a kind and gentle person. She enjoyed traveling and all aspects of nature.

She is survived by her husband John; children, Lloyd E. Cannon of New York, P. Marlene Bailey of Brooklyn Center and Judy (Kenneth) Lonto of Corcoran; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sister, Bertha Neuman of Marysville, Wash.; also many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annie; one brother and one sister.

Dolores Catherine Keefe

Mass of Christian Burial for Dolores Catherine Keefe was Monday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Visitation was Sunday afternoon from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. A prayer service was held on Sunday evening during the visitation. Father Frank Wampach and Father Gerald Keefe concelebrated that Mass, with music provided by Paula Pysick, organist, and the church choir.

Casket bearers were Dolores' grandsons Tim Babatz, Greg Babatz, Kurt Haag, Eddie Fortwengler, Glenn Cooper, Shawn Jensen, Michael Fasching, Zachary Fasching, Lukas Kemna, Joseph Kemna, and Justin Leason. Gift bearers were Dolores' granddaughters Brenda Haag, Judy Rath, Tracy Babatz, Joni Babatz, Monica Fortwengler, Marie Wiggins-Cooper, and Jackie Leason.

The interment service took place at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted, Minnesota.

Dolores Catherine Keefe, age 87 of Watertown, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. She was born Feb. 24, 1917, to Clarence and Catherine Sexton in Victor Township, Minnesota.

Dolores was united in marriage on Aug. 9, 1935, to John Donald Keefe and together they raised nine children. Dolores was a homemaker while the children were growing up, and than went on to work at Green Giant in the summers and eventually in the Watertown high school cafeteria. Dolores was a very active longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. She loved her church and was a faithful member, rarely missing a daily service. Dolores was an active member of the rosary society. She often stated that the rosary brought hope and encouragement over the years.

Gardening was a passion, vegetables; not flowers. Her canning and pickling were treasured gifts to many. Dolores served as an election judge for as long as anybody can remember. She was an active volunteer in Girls State and was a member of the senior citizen advisory board with the Watertown Bank.

At the age of 75 she earned her wings and found the joy of traveling. Alaska, the Bahamas and Florida were locales she visited in recent years. Other favorite pastimes were the Minnesota Twins and her grandchildren's sports.

Dolores was very proud of her Irish heritage, quick to state that she was 100% Irish.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband John and a daughter Beverly. She is survived by her sons, Don Keefe, Ron and Tammy Keefe, Mark and Diana Keefe; daughters, Pat and Jim Babatz, Carol Wiggins, Connie Keefe, Vicki and Doug Fasching, and Mary and Jeff Kemna; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Eileen and Lauren Pysick, Rita and Don Johnson, and Patty and Dennis Neaton; brother Delbert Sexton, and sister-in-law Ardis Sexton; godchildren, Bob Pysick, Renee Lange, Phyllis Radde, Joanne Kockelman, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gregory T. Kubu

Services for Gregory Thomas Kubu, 40, of Becker were Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Grace Lutheran Church in Becker.

Reverend David Johnson officiated and interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo.

Honorary casket bearers were Katee Done and Jim Sundell. Casket bearers were Talion Kubu, Rodney Quist, Kallin Garbers, Kerry Garbers, Jeffrey Petersen and Jim Petersen.

Mr. Kubu died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital. He was born May 12, 1964, in Minneapolis the son of Gene and Jean (Garbers) Kubu.

On June 3, 1991, he and Bernice (Candy) Petersen were joined in holy marriage at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo by reverend James Disney. God blessed their marriage with two children, Tyller and Benjamin.

He was employed at publishing company as a bookbinder. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Becker.

Mr. Kubu enjoyed coaching children's baseball and football, fishing and golfing. He was also an avid Viking fan.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice "Candy" Kubu; children, Tyller Kubu and Benjamin Kubu; parents, Gene and Jean Kubu of Buffalo; brother, Talion (Sara) Kubu of Buffalo; grandparents, Henry and Geraldine Garbers of Van Horne, Iowa and Wilma Kubu of Belle Plaine, Iowa; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Donna Marske of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
