Patricia Veronica (Dulinski) Werner
Patricia Veronica (Dulinski) Werner, of Duluth, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 78.

She was born March 10, 1928 in Duluth to Stanley and Helen (Schultz) Dulinski. She married Thomas ‘Bill’ Werner on June 8, 1946. She was a long time parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles and Leonard Dulinski; sisters, Mildred LaFlair, Eleanor Abrahamson, Irene Yutrzenka and Dorothy Pecore; daughter-in-law, Vera Werner; and great-grandchild, Amanda Bird.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas ‘Bill’; daughter, Kathleen (Clifford) Bird of Saginaw, Minn.; sons, John (Barbara), Roger, Richard, David (Nancy) all of Duluth, Duane (Lorie) of Meadowlands, Minn.; brother, George (Charlene) Dulinski of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with two on the way; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held in St. John’s Catholic Church.

Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.

Nancybeth Sedgwick Thayer
Former Proctor resident Nancybeth Sedgwick Thayer died Fri., June 30, 2006 in St. Mary’s Medical Center after a long battle with MS. She was 49.

Nancybeth was born June 22, 1957 in Minneapolis to Charles and Bette (Tritchler) Sedgwick. She graduated from Edina East High School and attended Augsburg College. Nancybeth married David Thayer on December 29, 1979 and they moved to Proctor in 1997. She recently moved to Hermantown. She was a member of Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church and Peace In Christ Lutheran Church. Nancybeth loved to play her flute and piano; she had directed her church’s children’s choir and she loved to write. Most of all she loved taking care of her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband David in 2002.

Nancybeth is survived by her children Zechariah, Lucas, twins Jeremiah and Joel, and Christiana, all at home, her parents Bette and Charles Sedgwick of Edina, sisters Colleen Belgum of Remer, Janice (Dan) Larson of New Hope, and Pamela (Steve) Neidenfeuhr of Becker, great aunt Nellie Engelking of Ashland, Ore., and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Services were held last Friday in Peace In Christ Lutheran Church.

Steven V. St. John
Steven V. St. John of Saginaw died Thurs., July 13, 2006 in Rochester. He was 36.

He was born May 22, 1970 in Mankato. Steve was a truck driver for Viracon in Owatonna for 13 1/2 years and loved his job. In 2003, Steve was united with his daughter, Brittany A. Young (St. John) and built a fast and loving relationship.

Steve is survived by his children Christopher and Stephanie of Mankato, Cody of Askov and Brittany Young (St. John) of Saginaw, fiancee and closest friend Kim Mullen of Saginaw, stepsons James Young and Kyle Makitalo of Saginaw, parents Victor and Shirley St. John of Janesville, and brother Michael St. John of Colorado. Steve built a very close relationship with his extended family, Richard and Susan Lowinski of Duluth, Barry and Donna MacDougall of Duluth, Casey, Amanda and Jacob MacDougall of Duluth, Marty, Kris, Mandy and Josh Greenwood of Saginaw, Rick and his daughter Sydney Lowinski of Duluth, and most of all, his beloved cat, Kassie (Rotten).

Services are today (Thurs., July 20, 2006) at 2 p.m. in First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave. with Rev. Joe Koranda officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Donna Rinker Lake
Donna Rinker Lake, who was born in Proctor and was a graduate of Proctor High School, died Fri., July 7, 2006, at Innovative Assisted Living in Hermantown. She was 82.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1923 to Donald O. and Edna (Keefe) Rinker. Donna was a graduate of Young & Hursh Business College. She worked as a secretary for several West End businesses. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Plus 55 Club.

Donna is survived by her brother Thomas R. Rinker of Hermantown, nephew James LeBlanc and niece Joan (William) Eng , both of Duluth, niece Leslie Koopman of Tacoma, Wash., and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will not be held at Donna’s request. Inurnment will be at Oneota Cemetery.

Ronald J. Hotop
Ronald J. Hotop of Esko died Mon., July 17, 2006 in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61.

Ron was born Sept. 2, 1944 in Duluth. He graduated from Duluth East High School in 1962 and graduated from UMD in 1978 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Ron enlisted in the Navy in 1965. Ron was a employee for Miner’s Inc. and also had worked in the garbage and trucking industries. Ron married Sandra Leggate on Oct. 6, 1979 in Pine City and has lived in Esko since 1979.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Elsie Hotop.

Ron is survived by his wife Sandra of Esko, daughters Jennifer of Woodbury and Leanne of Fla.; a sister Evelyn (Howard) Rabold of Duluth, brothers Larry (Karen) of Duluth, Bob (Barb) of Saginaw, Galen “Butch” (Katy) Fry of Milwaukee, his mother-in-law Marilyn Wallgren of Superior, brothers-in-law Robert Leggate of Wisconsin Rapids, Bill (Mary) Leggate of Solon Springs and Thomas Leggate of Lake Nebagamon, sisters-in-law Kathryn Nault of Poplar, Debbie (Jack) Bachinski of Superior, Anne (Jim) Schuster of Lake Nebagamon and Penny (Scott) Larson of Wentworth, and many nieces, nephews and very good friends. “Rah-Rah” will be sadly missed by his extended day care family.

Burial in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.

Patricia Hulbert Gagne Panyan
Patricia Hulbert Gagne Panyan, who was in the Proctor’s Women Golf League, was going to be celebrating her birthday Saturday with friends. Instead, those close to Patricia gathered together at her memorial service over the weekend. Patricia of Duluth passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Wed., July 26, 2006.

Patricia was born in Duluth to Lloyd and Kathleen (Meagher) Hulbert. She served the Women’s Army Corps during World War II as a Lab Technician. Later she worked for St. Mary’s Hospital, Maurices, Lake Haven Care Center, and Morgan Park High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Albert Gagne and Robert Panyan, and brother Joseph Hulbert.

Patricia is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren twin brothers and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Wilbert F. Johnson
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thurs.) in St. Rose Catholic Church for Wilbert F. Johnson of Duluth. He died Mon., July 31, 2006 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was 80.

Wilbert was born in Proctor on Nov. 10, 1925 to Olaf and Edith Johnson, and was a graduate of Proctor High School. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving with the 95th Field Hospital in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. In China, he was part of a four-man team responsible for inoculating all Chinese troops going to Northern China to fight the Japanese. He personally administered 52,831 shots. He married Mae Trenti in Duluth on May 14, 1948. He worked as an Orthopedics Tech at St. Luke’s Hospital. He later retired as a Senior Master Sgt. at the MN Air National Guard Base in Duluth, after 30 years in Data Processing.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Ray and Edward, and sisters Gertrude, Ruth and Carrie.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mae, sons, Kevin (Katie) of Taylors Falls, Kelley (Jola) of Hector, brothers Olaf and Alfred of Duluth and Roy of Virginia, sister Dorothy of Wis., grandchildren Jamie and Michael and their mother Sherryl, and Sarah and Isaac.

Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Lorraine J. “Larry” Amendola
Services were held Tues. Aug. 1 at Pike Lake Presbyterian Church for Lorraine J. “Larry” Amendola. She died Thurs., July 27, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was 83.

Larry was born Feb. 24, 1923 in Fargo, ND to Charles and Olga Gifford. She graduated from Martin Hughes High School in Buhl in 1941. While in school, she met Frank Amendola, fell in love and they were married that fall after graduation. She was always there to help at Pike Lake Presbyterian Church, where through her many years she served on various committees and sang alto in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Frank, parents Charles and Olga, brothers Charles and Robert and sister Geraldine.

Larry is survived by her children Frank (Marilyn) Amendola of Duluth, Wayne (Betsy) Amendola of Lake Vermilion, Lori (Roger) Martell of Duluth and Joseph (Vikki) Amendola of Saginaw, a sister Marion Thompson of Nisswa, grandchildren Wayne (Janelle) Amendola of Salinas Calif., Greg (Desire) Amendola of Hanover, Gary (Sarah) Amendola of Savage, Jason and Jeremy Amendola, both of Duluth, Lynn (Barry) Kramer of Phoenix AZ, Kevin (Terri) Amendola, Jeff (Irene) Amendola, Brianna and Brett Capra, all of Duluth, and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Emergency Room, Coronary Intensive Care Unit, Cath Lab, Dr. Neustle and Pastor Richard Blood for their care of Larry.

Marion N. Mann
Maurice (Jackie) Mann of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Marion N. Mann. The former Stebner Road resident, died Wed., July 26, 2006, at Franciscan Health Center. She was 94.

She was born Dec. 28, 1911 in Glencoe, Minn. to Joel and Helga (Langlie) Overvig. She married Kenneth Mann October 3, 1931 in West Union, Minn. and moved to Cromwell, where they farmed until moving to Duluth in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in May, 1990, a grandson, Michael Kaczmark in January, 1964, daughter Sally Jean Obrokta, on Easter Sunday, April, 1982, son-in-law Andrew Obrokta, November, 1990, sister Ruth Hanson, March, 1994, and daughter-in-law Sharon Mann, May, 2002.

Marion is also survived by a daughter Shirley (Michael) Kaczmark of Cloquet, two other sons, Paul of Lakeville, and Willis (Jackie) of Laurel, MD, grandchildren Jeannine (James) DeFedericis, Daniel Obrokta, Tammy (Daniel) Karban, Timothy Mann, Thomas (Sherrie) Mann, David Mann, James (Julie) Kaczmark, Eric (Alice) Mann, Michael (Holly) Mann and Kristen Mann, great-grandchildren Allen, David, Erin, Jason, Kelly, Adam, Bryan, Thomas, Gavin, and Megan, step great-grandchildren Dusty and Stephanine, step great-great-grandchildren Starla and Christian, sisters Hazel Ecklund of Shakopee, Blanche Konzak of Osakis, and Alyce Olson of Sauk Centre, brothers Harold (Harriet) Overvig, of Osakis and Orville (Betty) Overvig of Long Prairie, and many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones everywhere.

Service was Tuesday in Salem Lutheran Church, Hermantown, Rev. Cheryl Fleckenstein officiating. Burial in Bethany Cemetery.

William J. Zacher
William J. Zacher, who had lived in Proctor and Duluth and was a conductor for the DM&IR, died Thurs., July 20, 2006 at the Hospice House of Palms of Pasadena Hospital, Fla. He was 87.

Bill was born in Forbes, Minn. He graduated from Proctor High School. While working for the DM&IR he was the grievance man for UTU. He was a man with the heart of a volunteer, but he had to wait for retirement to gain recognition. He was active in the Lutheran Church, serving on lay committees that dealt with teenager’s drug problems, juvenile delinquency, race relations and the plight of migrant workers. After retiring in 1976, he continued his volunteer life and was elected to the St. Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame. He served on the Mayor’s Advisory Council and helped establish the Shiloh Day Care Center. In 1997, he received a Silver Senior Award from Mayor David Fischer and the St. Petersburg Commission on Aging in recognition of his contributions. His volunteer efforts also included chairmanship of the St. Petersburg Support Committee for Migrant workers. As part of his three-year term, he lived with a migrant family to experience camp conditions first hand.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years Valerie, sons Rev. Michael of Eden Prairie and Steven of Duluth, sisters Madge Ellefson and Lorna Jelenick, both of Omaha, Neb., two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A memorial service was held in St. Petersburg, Fla.
