Mr. Anderson died Wednesday, April 27, at the Elim Home in Watertown. He was born at home in Kossuth County near Swea City, Iowa, Feb. 16, 1934, to Albert and Adella Anderson. He graduated from Elmore High School in 1951. In December 1955 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until November 1959.
Mr. Anderson was married to Donna Mae Langfald Dec. 19, 1959. They were blessed with four children, Rebecca Mae, Scott Robert, Irene Marie and Jessica Lynn.
Mr. Anderson worked for 35 years for Sperry Rand Corp., which later became known as Unisys. He would always joke around that his real job was the hobby farm and he worked at Unisys so he could afford to live out in the country.
His children moved out to the hobby farm in Delano in March, 1968. This was a great adventure for everyone. Becki and Scott were overwhelmed with all the space after living on a small lot in Minneapolis. Within a couple of years, Mr. Anderson decided that it would be fun to have sheep. This was the same time that Irene Marie joined the family. That started a huge family project. Before long there was a large flock of sheep. The whole family got into this project. The sheep traveled to the county fair and the state fair. This was about the time when Jessica Lynn joined the family. Soon Bob got into the wool shows and really enjoyed competing and very often came away with a blue ribbon. On one occasion one of his fleeces won a prize in California, then was entered in the World Wool Show in Australia where it won. It was at that time that he decided that it was time for the Minnesota State Fair to have a wool show.
He pursued this goal, and soon there was a wool show at the State Fair, which lasted for many years.
For several years he pulled the Village Church 4th of July float in the Delano parade with his CA Allis tractor, which he had restored.
During these years his other interest was teaching children, which he did through Sunday School and Awana at Village Church. He taught the toddler class for more than 20 years at Village Church. He also was an Awana leader for 20 years. All the children knew who "Mr. Bob" was. On a couple of occasions one of his students said to his parents, "Mr. Bob is God, Right?"
Since his retirement, he and his wife Donna attended several ship reunions in various parts of the United States.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David Darryl, who passed away as an infant, and Jim, who passed away in 1994; and nephew, Richard,
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Rebecca and David Gregorio and their children Daniel and Elizabeth, and Scott and Jennifer and their children Kari and Andy; brothers, Albert Jr. and Lavonne Anderson and their children Debbie and Steven, Karryl and Becky Anderson; sisters, Sonja and Virgil Munson and children Janet and Julie, Karen and Don Fox and Donald and Dennis.
