Jerome Klaers

Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome Arnold "Jerry" Klaers, 73 of Loretto, was Monday, March 21, 2005, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.

Visitation was held on Sunday evening at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Rev. Brian Fier, Rev. Marvin Klaers and Rev. Clem Zweber concelebrated at the services.

Interment was in the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Loretto

Mr. Klaers passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the manager of the Loretto baseball team for 20 years. He was an active member and officer of the Loretto Baseball League and Athletic Club. He was a distributor for Standard Oil/Amoco throughout his professional career. He was the Director of the State bank of Loretto for 23 years, a member of the Loretto Fire Department for 39 years and also served as the secretary/treasurer for many years.

He was a charter member of the Loretto Lions Club, member of the Catholic Aid Society, SS. Peter and Paul Society, and he held numerous offices and positions at church. Above all, Mr. Klaers loved people, life and his family the most.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marge, of Loretto; two daughters, Laurie and Jeff Plzak of Loretto and Lindy and Jim Nelson of Buffalo; and six grandchildren, Curt, Chad, Kevin, Abby, Brita and Elliot.

Raymond Berning

Services for Raymond A. Berning, 82, of St. Michael were Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Michael Catholic Church.

Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was the celebrant and Rev. Michael Becker the concelebrant.

Interment was at the St. Michael Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Brian Berning and 2nd Lt. Jacob Frenz, USMC.

Casket bearers were Steve Berning, Aaron Berning, Paul Stupfel, Keith Weber, Mike Berning, Dennis Berning, David Lee and Ron Weber.

Mr. Berning died peacefully at home Sunday, March 13, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Frankfort Township, the son of Marcus and Theresa (Kasper) Berning.

On May 21, 1947, he was joined in holy marriage to Agnes A. Weber at the Church of St. Walburga in Fletcher. God blessed their marriage with 11 children.

Mr. Berning farmed on the east side of Pelican Lake in Frankfort Township from 1947 until 1974. He was employed by Offutt Potato Farms in Becker and then the Wright County Civic Center in Buffalo. In the final years of his employment, he and Mrs. Berning managed the Civic Center. He was said to be one of the best ice groomers during his time there.

Mr. Berning also spent time working at the Sauk Rapids ice arena prior to his retirement. After his retirement, he delivered papers for the Star Tribune, starting with a Saturday and Sunday route and then adding a weekly route.

One of his passions was going on daily rides to see the countryside, the farm fields, and to get an ice cream cone.

He enjoyed his travels out to Oregon to visit his sister and her family. He also enjoyed going fishing with family and friends.

He was a lifelong member of the St. Michael Catholic Church

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Agnes A. Berning (nee Weber); children: Monica (Jack) Mueller, Diane Berning, Linda (Hank) Van Erp, Carol Frenz, Allen (Nancy) Berning, Joan (Dic) Danielson, Paul (Kim) Berning, Peter (Lynn) Berning, Larry (Patty) Berning, Julie Berning and Dan (Sharon) Berning; 20 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Doris Lee; brothers, Jerome Berning, Joe (Delores) Berning and Jim (Mary) Berning; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Mark Frenz; parents, Marcus and Teresa Berning; by two sisters, Evelyn Stupfel and Anita Berning; and two brothers-in-law, Robert J. Lee and Norbert Stupfel.

Teresa Gebert

Services for Teresa Pearl Gebert, 51, of Rogers were Sunday, March 20, 2005, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Robert Mortvedt officiated. Burton Tappe of First Missionary Church in Wadena also spoke.

Lorraine Wolff was the organist for the service.

A spring interment will be at Inman Cemetery in rural Henning, Minn., Wadena County.

Honorary bearers were Jonathan Gebert, Bobby Gebert, Joe Gebert, Barry Luedtke, Doug Raasch and Jason Babler.

Mrs. Gebert died Tuesday, March 15, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 7, 1954, in Wadena, the daughter of Marvin and Seretha Snook Butterfield.

She graduated from Sebeka High School in 1972 and later attended college to become a seamstress.

She formerly was employed as a caregiver to the mentally handicapped at the Jefferson House in Wadena.

Survived by children, Shannon (Dough) Raasch and Audrey Gebert all of Otsego, Cynthia Gebert of Verndale, Trish Shamp of Rogers, Joseph (Krista) Gebert of Cambridge and Geana (Jason) Babler of Rogers; eight grandchildren and one due in September; father, Marvin (Ione) Butterfield of Monticello; brothers and sisters, Bob, Gary, Michael and Jim Butterfield, all of Minneapolis, Patricia (Barry) Luedtke of Princeton, Kathy Line of Anoka, Cheryl Threkeld and Mary Butterfield, both of Monticello; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Seretha; and a son, Jonathan.

Dale Moen

Services for Dale Harold Moen, 65, of St. Michael were Friday, March 18, 2005, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

Rev. Marlo Miller officiated and interment with military rites followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Colleen Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. Congregational hymns were "Onward Christian Soldiers," "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "Lord, Dismiss Us with Thy Blessing."

Honorary Casket Bearers were Marvin Bursch, Darrell Schrade, Joe Williams, Dick Swanson, Larry Gordon, Lyle Goskey, Jerome Skie, Mike Dale, Frank Androff and Bob Bixa.

Casket bearers were John Salk, Daniel Folsom, Eric Moen, Jared Johnson, Dan Kaldun and Rick Tappi.

Mr. Moen died Monday, March 14, at his residence.

He was born June 17, 1939, in Blackduck, Minn., the son of Alton and Lucille Weisert Moen.

He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from Dec. 17, 1956, until April 26, 1960. During this time, he was a crewmember of the USS Princeton.

He was formerly employed by Chrysler Corporation for 13 years and later served the State of Minnesota as an OSHA Inspector.

He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. He also belonged to the Hanover Lions Club and VFW Post #5973 in St. Michael.

Mr. Moen is survived by a son, Brian E. Moen of Big Lake; former wife and best friend, Donna Hanson of Albertville; stepchildren, Donald (Lynn) Eberle of St. Michael and Sue Eberle of Chanhassen; grandchldren, Jill Toppari, Desirae Eberle, Cody Moen and Kelsey Moen; a great-grandchild, D.J. Moench; a brother, Jim Moen of Wahkon; and a sister, Arlene Folsom of Richfield; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by wife, Carole; a granddaughter, Natalie Lou Moen; a son. James R. Moen; and by his parents, Alton and Lucille.

Katie C. Harris

Services for Katie C. (Lasater) Harris, 43, of Maple Grove were Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center.

Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Center City.

Mrs. Harris was taken from us suddenly Saturday, March 12, 2005.

She is survived by her husband, Ray; children, Samantha and Nathan; mother, Lorie (Bud) Arnold; father, Randall Lasater; sister, Susan Lasater; brother, Randall Lasater; and many other relatives and friends.

Maurice J. Melvin

A memorial service for Maurice (Shep) James Melvin, 83, were Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.

Rev. Ellis Kaster officiated.

Mr. Melvin died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Forsythe, Mont. He was one of two sons of Harley and Ellen (Hawley) Melvin. He was raised and attended schools in Forsythe, and later Casper, Wyo. after his family moved there in 1934.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, and later participated in the Normandy invasion. He received two Bronze Stars for bravery under fire and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. He spent over a year in military hospitals recovering from those wounds and did continue to have a disability.

He was honorably discharged in 1946 and went back to Casper, where he became an apprentice pressman for the Casper Star Tribune. He worked for the Casper Star Tribune for over 40 years as a journeyman pressman. During that time he worked from the old "hot lead" days when the plates were cast from molten lead and very heavy to the current "offset" method that uses electronic and photographic methods to printing today's newspaper.

Mr. Melvin married Vivian Gladys Foote in Casper April 10, 1949. They were the parents of five children, Sharon, David, Vicky, Bob and Richard.

He was a past member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vivian; daughters, Sharon Barkdoll of Casper, Wyo., and Vicky Melvin of Falls Church, Va.; sons, David Melvin of Elkhart, Ind., Richard Melvin of Maple Grove, and Robert Melvin of Gillette, Wyo.; 8 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Mr. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Ellen; and brother, Ray of California.

Memorials may be made to the United Veterans Council of Natrona County, or Disabled American Veterans (DAV) care of Bustard's Funeral Home, 600 CY Avenue, P.O. Box 2176, Casper, WY 82602.

Herman J. Urbashich Sr.

Services for Herman J. Urbashich Sr., 95, of Maple Grove were Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Interment was at St. Vincent's Cemetery.

Mr. Urbashich passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005. He was born in St. Anthony in 1909 to John and Mary Urbashich.

He married Iola Stubson in May 1938. He was Chief Engineer for St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, and also involved in business community for over 40 years.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Patricia (Jerry) Mitchell, Herm (Martha) Urbasic, Mary Ann Urbashich-Nelson and Eileen Urbashich; grandchildren, Mark (Elizabeth) Mitchell, Michelle (Jon) Levine, Monica (Craig) Bongart, Michael (Lora) Mitchell, Eric (Isie) Urbashich, Elizabeth (David) Coudron, Erin (Joseph) Micallef, Annie (Garrett) Dietrick; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Spencer Levine, Emily, Rachel, George Bongart, Jeremy, Jacqueline, Juliet Mitchell, Amanda and Allison Urbasich, Mason and Gabrielle Coudron, Samantha Dietrick.

Mr. Urbashich is preceded in death by his grandson, John; son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Paul Nelson; and beloved wife, Iola.

Clarence Ouverson

Services for Clarence LeRoy Ouverson, 79, were Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano.

Interment at the Delano Public Cemetery.

Mr. Ouverson died March 16, 2005, at the Delano Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Fortier Township in Yellow Medicine County near Canby. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Canby Oct. 17, 1925.

On June 11, 1949, he married Edith Paulson in Canby.

Mr. Ouverson was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Marie (Jesme) Ouverson; son, David L. Ouverson in 1971; brothers and sisters, Lee and Zona Ouverson, Ray Ouverson, Corrine Hormann-Charles, Orlan Hormann, Erwin Molnau, Harold VanKeulen, Roy and Mildred Johnson, Cletus Hoffman, and Howard and Genevieve Ouverson.

He is survived by loving wife of 55 years, Edith of Montrose; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice (Joe) Kittok of Delano, and Joanna (Kevin) Baumgartner of Aitkin; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Joe (Shannon) Kittok, Jr., John and Jacob Kittok, David, Matthew, Eric, Todd and Alex Baumgartner; great-grandchildren, Joey and Eve Marie Kittok; brothers and sisters, Frances Hoffman of Canby, Lola Ouverson of Canby, Margaret Molnau of Red Wing, Margery and Leon Van de Veire of Canby, Bernice and Richard Swedzinski of Champlin, Lorraine VanKeulan of New Ulm, Mavis and Tom Garrett of Little Canada, Nina and Ken Benz of Canby, Eldon and Adrienne Ouverson of Pine City.

He was a member of the Delano Sportsman's Club and Watertown Senior Citizens. He loved to go to the Delano Senior Center. His great loves in life were hunting, fishing, traveling and being with his family, especially his eight grandsons and great-grandchildren. His other great love was watching the Delano Tigers' basketball games and cheering them on.
