Mavis J. Johnson
Funeral services for Mavis Janet Johnson, 64, Sauk Center, took place June 26, 2002 at Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Russell Schmitt officiated.
Johnson died in St. Cloud on Saturday, June 22, 2002. She was born June 27, 1937 in Siren, Wis., to Philip and Ruth Smith and was a housekeeper for a nursing home.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth Smith; children, Terry (Jonell), Sheila, JoAnn, LaRae and Audra; grandchildren, Tera, Kristy, Stephanie, Lauren Connor and Sierra; sisters, Marilyn (Gerald) Olson and Betty Coyle; and brothers, Paul Smith, Melvin Smith, and Philip (Brenda) Smith Jr.
She was preceded in death by her father, Philip Smith.
Pallbearers were Mark Olson, Larry, Chris and Gerald Tennier, Al Strickland, and Scott Nieman.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Mary O'Connor
Funeral services for Mary Ann O'Connor, 88, Elk River, formerly of Coon Rapids, took place June 26, 2002 at Church of St. Andrew, Elk River.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (William) McPherson, Maureen O'Connor, Mary Mumm, Michael (Judy) O'Connor, Kathleen (George) Fleury, Margaret (Jerry) Jones, Sharon (Timm) Driscoll, Thomas O'Connor, Rick Esping, Colleen (Dennis) Green, Donald (Julie) O'Connor, Ann (Richard) Dahling; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; and son-in-law, Ivan Mumm.
Private interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements were by the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park.
Michael Swartz
Funeral services for Michael R. Swartz 'Mike, ' 53, Coon Rapids, took place June 29 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Mark Smith officiated.
Swartz died June 27, 2002 at his home. He was born Feb. 1, 1949 in Minneapolis to Richard Swartz and Margaret N. Stordahl. He was a humane officer at the Anoka County Humane Society.
He is survived by his wife Kay 'Kip' daughter, Judy Swartz; parents, Richard and Margaret Swartz; brother, Rob; sisters, Nikki Held, Jennie Carlson, Sandy Fredlund, Shelley Rosette and Kris Kari; and many other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Virgil Swing
Funeral services for Virgil V. Swing, 66, Coon Rapids, formerly of Oak Grove, took place July 3 art Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Francis. Rev. J.R. Baumgarn officiated.
Swing died June 29, 2002 at Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis. He was born Dec. 18, 1935 in Anoka to Victor and Evelyn M. (Kurrasch) Swing. He was a gunsmith at Federal Cartridge.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Jennifer (Kevin) Carlson, Todd (Melanie); six grandchildren; mother, Evelyn; brother, Leon; and sisters, Rosetta Lemasters, Bernie Tomkins and Fern Soucy.
He was preceded in death by his son, Troy; and father, Victor.
Pallbearers were David Soucy, Warren Tompkins, Kevin Carlson, Leon Swing, Leonard Lemke and Don Otis.
Interment was at West Oak Grove cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Dennis Wilson
Funeral services for Dennis A. Wilson, 60, Ramsey, took place June 28 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Liane Rock officiated.
Wilson died June 25, 2002 at his home. He was born June 14, 1942 in Minneapolis to Arthur B. and Frances C. (Gamache) Wilson and was electrician for Egan-McKay Company.
He is survived by his wife, Odelle; daughter, Lori (Bob) Anderson of Milaca; sons, Richard (Tanya) Wilson of St. Francis, Brad (Melissa) Wilson of Rogers; six grandchildren; brothers, Floyd (Leone) Wilson of Hibbing and Fay (Fred) Ojile of Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances Wilson.
Pallbearers were Steve Elias, John Gunderson, Emmitt Hauslauden, Terry Kittock, Tom Peterson and Don Swanson.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Arnold Widstrand
Funeral services for Arnold Wilford Widstrand, 82, Blaine, took place June 26 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church. Rev. George Kolath officiated.
Widstrand died June 23, 2002 in Blaine. He was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Kittson County and was a retired punch press operator at Honeywell.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; children, Dennis, Deborah (Mark) Small, Steven (Carol), Peter (Linda); five grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter; and sister, Alice (Glen) Kerr.
Pallbearers were George Benusa, Ray and Alice Widstrand, Myron Johnson, Warren Rickard and Matthew Small.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel.
Luverne Zeug
Funeral services for Luverne J. Zeug, 76, Coon Rapids, took place July 1 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. George Kolath officiated.
Zeug died June 25, 2002 in Princeton. He was born Nov. 13, 1925 in New Ulm and was a retired highway mechanic.
He is survived by his children, Steven (Joan), Carol (Rick) Zeug-Jones, Lynn (Tim) Chudzik; five grandchildren; sister, Darlene Adams; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; and brothers, Donald and Walter.
Pallbearers were Clint, Heath and Amanda Zeug, Eric Bertuleit, and David and Rob-ert Holt.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Karen Abbott
Funeral services for Karen L. Abbott, 55, Circle Pines, took place July 3 at Gearhart Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Bucka officiated.
Abbott died June 30, 2002. She was born in St. Paul to Lawrence E. Westerlund and Evelyn Lloyd.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; daughters, Kimberly (Larry) Thill, Kerry (Mark) Goemer, Kelly (Josh) Moe; grandchildren, Ryan, Jake, Olivia; mother, Evelyn Westerlund; sisters, Kay Madsen, Cindy O'Brien; brothers, Gale, Gary, Tom and Todd Westerlund; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence E. Westerlund.

Frank Barton
Funeral services for Frank J. Barton, 79, Brooklyn Park, took place July 10 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Liane Rock officiated.
Barton died July 5, 2002 at Walker Methodist Home, Minneapolis. He was born Feb. 23, 1923 in Grey Eagle to Louis and Josephine (Chakel) Barton, He was a sheetmetal worker.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris; son, Bill (Michele) Barton of St. Paul; granddaughter, Anna; brother, Louis (Lavern) Barton of Wadena; sisters, Agnes Anderson of Brooklyn Center and Clara Brophy of St. Cloud; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Bernard and Timothy; parents, Louis and Josephine Barton; sister, Anna Macha; and brother, Edward Barton.
Pallbearers were Jeff Byrdziak, Terry Smith, Bill Berggren, Brent and Craig Weiss, and Bruce Butler.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Sherrie Beaman
Funeral services for Sherrie F. Beaman, 58, Coon Rapids, took place July 5, 2002 at Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Steve Melander officiated.
Beaman died in Coon Rapids on Sunday, June 30, 2002. She was born on February 25, 1944 in Minneapolis to Harold and Margaret Kinn.
She is survived by her son, Gordon E. (Suzette) Beaman Jr.; daughters, Rita J. Beaman, Rhonda L. (Scott) Knudson; grandsons, Gordon E. III, Vincent C. and James V; granddaughters, Miki L. Mahrer, Misty R. and Amber L. Knudson; one brother; three sisters; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Sr.
Pallbearers were Gordon Jr., Gordon III, James, and Vincent Beaman, Wayne, James and William Whited, and Scott Knudson.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel.
