David Morkert

Funeral services for David L. Morkert, 60, Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Elk River, took place June 15 at First Lutheran Church, Chattanooga. Rev. Meredith Jackson officiated.

Morkert died June 12, 2002. He was born May 27, 1942 in Chicago, Ill., and began a 38-year education career in 1964 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Elk River, as principal, teacher, choir director, organist and youth director.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Peter (Teri) of Phoenix, Ariz, Andrew (Christine) of Harrison, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ethan, Natalie and Jacob; mother and stepfather, Alam and Mime Panko, Sheboygan, Wis.; brothers, Larry (Kathleen) of Chicago, Mike (Vicki) of Aurora, Ill.; mother-in-law, Beulah Kreger, of Elk River; sisters-in-law, Joan (Allan) Kastendick, Bev (Scott) Schamber, Linda (Dave) Parvey, Lorna (Jim) Rudolph, all of Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Chattanooga Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Douglas Nelson

Funeral services for Douglas H. Nelson, 65, Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Anoka, took place June 27 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Liane Rock officiated.

Nelson died June 20, 2002 at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla. He was born May 6, 1937 in Minneapolis to Ruben P. and Louise S. (Rannow) Nelson; was a steel warehouse torch operator.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Gregory (Tammy), Michael (Stacy); daughter, Karen (Rex) Bowman, Janine (Gregg) Sullivan; grandchildren, Melissa Nelson, Jason and Kaley Nelson, Cody and Austin Nelson, Zachary, Brittany and Kyle Bowman, Brandon Sullivan; sister, Judith Hunt; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Nelson.

Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.

Duane Newstrom

Funeral services for Duane L. Newstrom, 68, Anoka, will take place tomorrow (Saturday, June 29) at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.

Newstrom died June 20, 2002 at his home. He was born July 17, 1933 in Vienna, S.D., and owned a carpet cleaning service in Anoka for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; children, John, Sonja (Tim) Knutson, Karen (Dave) Skaj, Eric (Paula), Hans, Andy; four granddaughters; three grandsons; sister, Boots (Bob Reob); brother, Merlin (Shirley); nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Interment will be at Vienna cemetery, Vienna, S.D. Arrangements are by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.

Rebecca Orttel

Funeral services for Rebecca Anne Orttel, 52, Andover, took place June 27 at Constance Evangelical Free Church, Andover. Rev. Charles Jones officiated.

Orttel died June 21, 2002 in Brooklyn Center. She was born March 11, 1950 in Minneapolis.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton; children, Kate (Matt) Baumgardner, Ben and Evie; parents, John and Vera; and many relatives and friends.

Interment was at Constance cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Muriel Peterson

Funeral services for Muriel D. Peterson, 80, Coon Rapids, took place June 22 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Blaine. Rev. George Kolath officiated.

Peterson died June 17, 2002 in Coon Rapids. She was born May 2, 1922.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Bigelow (Ken), Peggy Montour, Kathryn Lesage; eight grandchildren; brother, Jerome Kuehn (Ruth); sister, Lois McManus; and nieces and nephews.

Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Marie Thorne

Funeral services for Marie R. Thorne, 84, St. Cloud, took place June 27 at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Chapel. Rev. Norman Berg officiated.

Thorne died June 19, 2002. She was born Nov. 9, 1917 in Mahnomen to George O. Lee and Hermana Korsgaden, and was a retired stenographer with the Anoka County Soil Conservation Service.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Joel, John and Andrea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Thorne.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Chapel.

Thomas Trutnau

Funeral services for Thomas A. Trutnau, 54, Champlin, took place June 26 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Adrian Piotrowski officiated.

Trutnau died June 21, 2002 at his home. She was born May 6, 1948 in Minneapolis to Chester A. Trutnau and Mary E. Rubinger and was stockbroker with John G. Kinnard.

He is survived by his wife, Midge; daughters, Tracy and Crystal; sister, Suzanne (Larry) Milton of Onamia; brother, David of Onamia; aunts, JoAnn (Phil) Losinski of Roseville and Ruth Anderson of Glendale, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Rostamo; father, Chester Trutnau; and stepfather, Don Rostamo.

Pallbearers were Jim Crenna, Ross Strehlow, John Simma, Tom Pierce, Giles Courtney, Dave Brousseau, Lee Moody and Dave Metz.

Interment was at Holy Cross cemetery, Onamia. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Tracy Turner

Funeral services for Tracy A. Turner, 38, Elk River, took place June 19 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Dennis Glad officiated.

Turner died June 15, 2002. She was born Oct. 11, 1963 in Two Harbors and was vice president of Twin City Tree Service.

She is survived by her husband, Dean; sons, Nicholas and Trevor; daughter, Whitney; parents, Gordon and Betty Boen; brothers, Larry Boen (Linda), Randy Boen (Janet), Kerry Boen (Patti); sister, Deborah Heath (Evans); and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Larry Boen, Jerry Bouta, Dan Turner and Rodney Mead.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Adella Axel

Funeral services for Adella Mary Axel, 85, Ramsey, took place Oct. 3 at Church of St. Mary's, Little Falls. Rev. Nick Landsberger officiated.

Axel died Sept. 26, 2002 in Coon Rapids. She was born Jan. 9, 1917 in Pierz to Gertrude Theis. She was a retired cook.

She is survived by her 10 children; four sisters; one brother; 37 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Axel, Sr.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel.

Virginia Borden

Funeral services for Virginia Borden, 79, Coon Rapids, take place today (Friday, Oct. 4) at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Ron McGilvra will officiate.

Borden died Sept. 26, 2002 at Anoka Care Center. She was born in Fawn Lake Township, Todd County, to Elmer T. and Rose D. (Lindberg) Smith.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (Gerald) Snater of Minnetonka, Kent (Theo) Borden of Utah, Robin (John) Janis of Coon Rapids, David Borden of Arizona, Erick (Holly) Borden of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Stephen Snater, John Jr. and Jenny Janis; brothers, Sidney (Rosie) Smith and Leslie (Colleen) Smith, all of Bloomington; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.

Interment is at Stanchfield cemetery, Stanchfield. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Kenneth Bovy

Funeral services for Kenneth J. Bovy, 67, Blaine, took place Sept. 27 at Church of St. Paul, Ham Lake. Rev. Timothy Nolan officiated.

Bovy died Sept. 23, 2002 at Mercy Hospital. He was born May 30, 1935 in Cologne to Christ Bovy and Cressence Weisshaur. He was a welder, a U.S. Army veteran and a Lions club member.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Kirsten (Diana), Loren; grandchildren, Cody and Jack; sisters, Molly (Robert), Flipp, Delphine Good; and mother-in-law, Hazel Beebe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one brother.

Pallbearers were Paul and Phillip Bovy, Richard, Robert, Roger, Ronald and Russell Flipp and Mark Good.

Interment was at Epiphany cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.
