Irene Schaffer

Funeral services for Irene Schaffer, 75, Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 23 at Glen Cary Lutheran Church. Rev. Jeff Jacobus officiated.

Schaffer died Dec. 19, 2002 in Coon Rapids. She was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Mandan, N.D., to Henry and Anna Mary Launtz.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Verda (Ron) Heinen, Thomas (Renee), Gene (Carol) and Lawrence (Joy); 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by a son; parents; one brother; and one sister.

Pallbearers were Jim Hovorka, Dale Clarke, James Schaffer and Greg Barlow. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Schaffer, Cory Clarke and Brandon Weber.

Interment was at Glen Cary cemetery, Ham Lake. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.

John Stamper

Funeral services for John Stamper, 72, Anoka, took place Dec. 20 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel. Rev. Jerry O'Neill officiated.

Stamper died Dec. 17, 2002 at his residence. He was born March 26, 1930 in Pedro, Ohio, to John Stamper and Margaret Heading. He was a retired roofing supervisor, and a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Willana; children, Nadine, Annie, Rhonda, Jhonda, Vonda (Jim) Reynolds; son-in-law, Jerry Borg; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Richardson, Virginia Kerns, Evelyn Bruce; and brothers, Homer, Carroll, James, Richard and Kenneth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony Stamper, and daughters, Teresa Borg and Rita Ramstorf.

Pallbearers were Paul Wyman, Anthony Stamper, Mike Ramstorf, Christopher Schaffer, Wesley Turner, Jerry Jr. and Jesse Borg; and Richard Larson.

Interment was at Forest Hills cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.

Alma Thomas

Funeral services for Alma M. Thomas, 82, Minneapolis, took place Dec. 20 at Gearhart Funeral Chapel. Rev. James Donald officiated.

Thomas died Dec. 11, 2002 in Minneapolis. She was born Aug. 3, 1920 in Drayton to John and Sanna Hayes.

She is survived by her children, Allen Jr, . and Linda, Robin and Peggy, Alaina and Doug Reber; grandchildren, Amanda and Aaron Thomas; four sisters; one brother; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Daniel Derby

Funeral services for Daniel K. Derby, 58, Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 27 at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake. Rev. Lewis Clefisch officiated.

Derby died Dec. 21, 2002. He was born April 27, 1944 in Fergus Falls and was a 33-year employee of Qwest.

He is survived by his wife, Valorie; sons, Brian (Kim), Christopher (Jennifer), Anthony, Erik; grandchildren, Jordan, Kyle and unborn baby Derby; mother, Deloris; sister, Linda Timm (James); brother, Doyle; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland.

Interment was at Ness cemetery, Elbow Lake. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Vern Emmans

Funeral services for Vern E. Emmans, 75, Anoka, took place Dec. 28 at Anoka United Methodist Church. Rev. Kenneth A. Rice officiated.

Emmans died Dec. 25, 2002 at his home. He was born March 23, 1927 in Anoka to William A. and Mabel E. (Woodiwiss) Emmans. He was a retired credit union manager.

He is survived by his wife, Ellamae; daughters, Cindy Emmans and husband William Byxbee of San Diego, Calif., Camillia Emmans of Columbia Heights; grandchildren, Colin Byxbee and wife Olga of Kohler, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Hannah of Kohler, Wis.; sister, Marilyn Dryden and husband Ervin of Andover and Cheryl Baumgart and husband Jack of Cedar.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Judith Florman

Funeral services for Judith Ann Florman, 62, Andover, took place Dec. 27 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Oak Grove. Rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.

Florman died Dec. 20, 2002 in Coon Rapids. She was born Aug. 4, 1940 in St. Paul to Benedict C. Orth and Elizabet C. Shepherd and was a small business accountant.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh; children, Steve (Lynn), Susan and Sarah; grandchildren, James, Charles, Katie, Robbie, Libby; and a large, extended family.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, David and Robert; and sister, Karen.

Interment was at St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Gearhart.

Lurena Hanks

Funeral services for Lurena G. Hanks, 97, Anoka, took place Dec. 27 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.

Hanks died Dec. 22, 2002 at Park River Estates Care Center, Coon Rapids. She was born Sept. 23, 1906 in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Lewis and Gertrude (Sunderlund) Steffenson.

She is survived by her sons, Loren (Roberta) of Coon Rapids, Victor (Judith) of Elk River, Rolland (Carolee) of Minnetonka; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur (Elaine) Steffenson of Maple Grove; and sisters, Caroline Calkin of Indiana and Elvina Steffenson of Anoka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gail.

Pallbearers were Jonathan, David, Andrew, Steven, Michael, Scott and Robert Hanks, and Lori Zurich.

Interment was at Vernon cemetery, Elk River. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Goodwin Hennek

Funeral services for Goodwin B. Hennek, 77, Dayton, took place Dec. 23 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Michael Van Sloun officiated.

Hennek died Dec. 20, 2002 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital. He was born June 13, 1925 in Foley to Thomas W. Hennek and Mary Winkleman. He was retired plater at Honeywell.

He is survived by his wife, Thecla; children, Brenda Hennek (Charles Waters), David (Gail), Jerry (Petra), Greg (Julie), Dennice Emge (Brian) Michelle Ilstrup, Tom (Kelly); grandchildren, Nicole (Jim), Matt, Jon, Jessica, Andrew, Mark, Ryan, Chayse, Samantha, and Roxanne; one brother; three sisters; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Scott Ilstrup; granddaughters, Katie and Ashley; parents; one brother; and one sister.

Pallbearers were Mark, Matthew, Jonathan, Andrew, Jessica Hennek, Nicole Gersema, Chayse and Ryan Emge, and Samantha and Roxanne Ilstrup.

Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Harriet and George Johnson

Funeral services for Harriet E. Johnson, 79, and George A. Johnson, 80, Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 23, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Tim Johnson officiated.

Both died at Hennepin County Medical Center from injuries received in a house fire. Harriet Johnson was born Nov. 5, 1923 in Hinckley to Joseph Maxwell and Hattie I. Liseth and George Johnson was born May 11, 1922 in Minneapolis to George Johnson and Clara Jordon. George was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a Purple Heart recipient from World War II when he served in the U.S. Army.

They are survived by their children, David (Debra), Debbie, Dianne (Marcy), Darla (Carlos) Parrague; grandchildren, Nate, Athena, Ryan, Emily, Natalie and Ian; brothers, Gordy, Ken, Larry (Kathy); brother-in-law, Jack O'Reilly; sister-in-law, Margaret Maxwell; and many nieces and nephews.

They were preceded in death by Harriet's sister, Shirley Dutcher and brothers, Jack Maxwell and Joseph Jr.; George's sister, Grace O'Reilly; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Charlotte.

Pallbearers were Mark and Greg Maxwell, Jim, Bob, Nate and Ryan Johnson, Jim Hughes, Rick Peterson, and Carlos and Ian Parrague.

Interment was at Sunset cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.

Harold Larkin

Funeral services for Harold A. Larkin, 84, Anoka, took place Dec. 31 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.

Larkin died Dec. 28, 2002 at Guardian Angels Care Center, Elk River. He was born Aug. 26, 1918 in Black River Falls, Wis., to Andrew Larkin and Amanda Otterson and worked for the Anoka County Highway Department.

He is survived by his children, Butch (Michele), Jeff (Bonnie), Terry (Dorie), David (Diane), Duane, Stuart, Carol Anderson (Bruce), Susan Freese (Wally), Julie Oman (David), Joel (Wendy), Scott (Becky), Greg, Mary Jo Dunham (Terry), Barry (Shelly); 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Radcliffe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zona.

Pallbearers were Steve, Jason, Mark, Shawn, Jordan, Zachary and Tyler Larkin, Bryan and Brett Freese, and James Johnson.

Interment was Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
