Violet Johnson

Funeral services for Violet Jane Johnson, 90, Anoka, formerly of Blaine, took place Jan. 20 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Kenneth DeFor Jr. officiated.

Johnson died Jan. 16, 2003 at Anoka Care Center. She was born May 2, 1912 in Paddock Township to Elmer O. Grant and Frieda Heuer. She was retired from retail sales.

She is survived by her children, Donald (Joyce) Hemphill, Lois (Blaine) Edmundson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; grandson, Paul; three brothers; and one sister.

Pallbearers were Mike Munson, Ben Edmundson, Glen and Roy Hemphill, and Darwin and Roger Wilson.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Interment was at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.

Raymond Kuhnhenn

Funeral services for Raymond Hans Kuhnhenn, 77, Princeton, formerly of St. Francis, took place Jan. 17 at Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River.

Kuhnhenn died Jan. 14, 2003 at Elim Nursing Home, Princeton. He was born June 6, 1925 in Welcome, Martin County to Albert and Dora (Heinrich) Kuhnhenn. He graduated from St. Francis High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was a retired bricklayer.

He is survived by his nephews, Ervin and Steven Kuhnhenn; ex-wife, Penny Quast; and stepchildren, Michael Quast, Micky Mekosch, Kevin Quast, Pam Quast, Tom Quast, John Quast, Paul Quast and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Dora Kuhnhenn; brother, Ervin; and sister, Gladis Kuhnhenn.

Pallbearers were Ted Jenne, Arlo Greenberg, John and Jim Jones, Jay Alferness and Tim Quast.

Interment was at Black Hills National cemetery, Sturgis, N.D. Arrangements were by Dare's Funeral Service.

Raymond Martin Sr.

Funeral services for Raymond V. Martin Sr., 71, Anoka, took place Jan. 23 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Martin died Jan. 16, 2003 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Home, St. Paul. He was born Aug. 7, 1931 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, and was retired from Chicago Northwestern Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Barbara (Mark) Smith, Rhonda (Mark) Pollock, Deborah (Rick) Townsend, Karen (Mark) Swart, Wendy Fulmer, Ronald Jr. (Marla), Laura Tilley; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine (Lowell) Hurwitz, Cheryl (Jay) Babin; and brother, Dennis.

Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.

Marcia Raney

Funeral services for Marcia J. Raney, 82, Anoka, took place Jan. 23 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mark VanSloun officiated.

Raney died Jan. 20, 2003 at St. John's Hospital, Maplewood. She was born Oct. 25, 1920 in Anoka to John O. and Ruth V. (Lundberg) Hall, was a retired clerical worker at Edina Realty and secretary for the Anoka city manager.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Jeff) Jackola, Elizabeth (Martin) Dunn, Margaret (John) Haack; grandchildren, Jenny and Jon Jackola, Andy (Eliza) Dunn, Chris Dunn; brother, Charles (Laurie) Hall; and sister, Bea (Jim) Buckley.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Keith Jensen and Gerald Raney.

Pallbearers were Jon Bendix, Ed Coleman, Larry Dunn, Elwood Anderson Ed Wilberg and Tuffy Nelson.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Arthur Sjolund Jr.

Funeral services for Arthur Carl Sjolund Jr., 77, Blaine, took place Jan. 24 at the Minnesota Veterans Home. Chaplain Neil Hering officiated.

Sjolund died Jan. 18, 2003 at the Minnesota Veterans Home. He was born Dec. 16, 1925 in Duluth to Alvilda Constance Olson and Arthur Carl Sjolund. He was a retired drapery installer and a veteran of the World War II where he served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Robert (Serena), Mark Sjolund; grandchildren, Charles, Sarah, Dankel, and Angela Sjolund. great-granddaughter, Megan Sjolund; brother, Richard (Carol) Sjolund; sisters, Gloria Mitchell, Patricia Carls, Nancy (Patrick) Donahue; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Steven and David Sjolund.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.

Verna Smith

Funeral services for Verna L. Smith, 71, Blaine, took place Jan. 18 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Ken DeFor officiated.

Smith died Jan. 15, 2003 in Blaine. She was born May 20, 1931 in Knox, N.D., to Albert and Rose Skar.

She is survived by her children, Connie (John) Iacono, Wayne (Pam), Rick (Laurie), Cheryl (Bill) Schroeder, Rick (Monica), Rita (Lee Sr.) Reed, Kenny (Kay), David (Peggy), Paula (Lance) Casar; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert and Larry Skar; sisters, Carol Kritzsky and Lorraine Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and special caregiver, Shirley Watson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; and grandson, Jonathan.

Pallbearers were Jacob and Ricky Schroeder, Nathan Smith, Adam and Aaron Casar and Lee Reed Jr.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Richard Bendiske

Memorial services for Richard Emil Bendiske, 70, East Bethel, took place Jan. 25 at Long Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Howard Skulstad officiated.

Bendiske died Jan. 20, 2003 at his home. He was born Nov. 4, 1932 in East Bethel to Emil and Pearl Bendiske. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a masonry contractor for many years, and a charter member of the Isanti Lions Club.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth and wife Linda Bendiske of Cambridge; daughters. Linda Olson and fiance Kent Tufvander of Cambridge, Sue and husband Mark Rihs of Blaine; brother, Art and wife Judy Bendiske of Anoka; sister, Shirley and husband Jerry Oldenburg of Cambridge; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special friend, Lori Steinlicht of Isanti and her sons, Tab, Todd and Thomas; and by many other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Frank Collins, Bud and Verdin Hendrickson, and Tom Turek.

Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.

Bradley Born

Funeral services for Bradley J. Born, 22, Ham Lake, took place Jan. 29 at Constance Free Church. Andover. Rev. Randy Discher officiated.

Born died Jan. 25, 2003 in Anoka from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born Aug. 11, 1980 in Forest Lake to James L. and Wendy M. (Gardner) Born. He was a machinist.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Wendy; brother, Greg; sister, Shannon and fiance Rusty Scheuermann; niece, Monica; nephews, Bailey, Aaron and Derek; grandparents, Stub and Dolly Born, Leonard and Lorraine Gardner, Dawn Gardner, Leonard Erickson; great-grandmother, Bernice Gardner; best friend, Brandon Anderson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Interment was at Constance cemetery, Andover. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Joseph Dietrich

Services for Joseph Allan Dietrich, 23, Anoka, took place Jan. 24 at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Rev. James Martin officiated.

Dietrich died Jan. 20, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1979 in Coon Rapids to Cindy Dietrich, and was employed in dry wall residential building construction.

He is survived by his daughter, Regan Schmidt; mother, Cindy L. Fickel; brother, Christopher; sisters, Nina and Hidie; grandparents, Marie and Darrell Dietrich; nephews, Anthony and Michael; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart.

Duane Hill

Funeral services for Duane A. Hill, 43, Burns Township, formerly of Coon Rapids, took place Jan. 30 at Constance Evangelical Free Church, Andover. Rev. Randy Discher officiated.

Hill died Jan. 25, 2003 in St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth, from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident. He was born Oct. 11, 1959 in Heron Lake to Calvin and MaryLee (Peterson) Hill, and was a sales representative.

He is survived by his wife, Faith; sons, Jeremy, Jim and Jared; parents, Calvin and MaryLee Hill of Sandstone; brothers, Danny (Pam Weatherhead) Hill of Mound, David (Dorothy) Hill of Pine City; sister, Peggy (Rick) Wasson of Pine City; mother-in-law, Arlita Parson of Duluth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Graham (Sherri) Parson of Watertown, Geoff Parsons of Duluth, and Mary D. Shirley of Duluth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, P. Osmond Parsons; and great-nephew, Deven Metting.

Pallbearers were Richard Wasson Jr., Christopher, Tracy and Terra Parsons, and Jessica and Michael Hill.

Interment was at Constance cemetery, Andover. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Ronald Johnson

Funeral services for Ronald Jacob Johnson, 71, Andover, took place Jan. 17 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Oak Grove. Rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.

Johnson died Jan. 15, 2003 in Andover. He was born Dec. 26, 1931 in Lawler to Matthew Johnson and Hilda Perilla and was a retired nursing home administrator.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kristin; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Larry Schroeder; and grandchildren, Ryan, Crystal, Nathan, Shawn, Theresa, Matthew, Erik, Andrew, Sara, Mark, Matthew, Jason and Jessica.

Interment was at St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
