Violet Johnson
Services for Violet J. Johnson, 90, Anoka, formerly of Blaine, took place Jan. 20 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids.
Johnson died at Anoka Care Center Jan. 16, 2003.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Joyce) Hemphill, Lois (Blaine) Edmundson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Stanley Grant; and sisters, Pearl Zimmerman and Elsie Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; grandson, Paul; brothers, Earl, Wayne and Vernon; and sisters, Claire and Grace.
Seth Lindsey
Memorial services for Seth B. Lindsey, 93, Golden Valley, formerly of Anoka, took place Jan. 24 at Union Congregational Church of Christ, St. Louis Park.
Lindsey died Jan. 18, 2003. He developed a number of patents, was chief design engineer, plant manager and a partner in the Lindsey and Welliver Company, which operated several years in the Brom Machine Shop building on N. Ferry Street. He also operated the Green Insurance Agency following the death of George Green, sold and managed real estate and was active in the Anoka Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his children, Bruce (Evie), Barbara 'Ann' (Charles Snowdon); grandchildren, Mark and Michael; and great-grandchild, Sion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; and father-in-law, George Green.
Jerry Olsen
Funeral services for Jerry A. Olsen, 62, Blaine, took place Jan. 29 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Marcus Mork officiated.
Olsen died Jan. 23, 2003. He was born Jan., 25, 1940 in Swanville and was a maintenance technician.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; son, Jon A. (Jessie); grandchildren, Logan and Savanna; daughters, Cheryl, Wanda, Tina, Betty, Bonnie; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (Bob) Wherley; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Lorraine Paulson
Funeral services for Lorraine Marie Paulson, 63, Blaine, took place Jan. 28 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Kenneth DeFor Jr. officiated.
Paulson died Jan. 25, 2003 at North Memorial Hospital. She was born June 5, 1939 in Warren to Peter Miller and Ella Abrahamson. She was a secretary.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; children, Carmen (Mark) Larsen, Craig (Atousa) Paulson, Cheryl (Peter) Craig; grandchildren, Heather, Jeff and Matthew Larsen; brother, Don (JaNean) Miller; and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Russell, Rolland, Randy and Michael Miller, Peter Craig, Mark Larsen and Kevin Storstad.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.
Patricia Stein
Funeral services for Patricia A. Stein, 58, Champlin, took place Jan. 25 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.
Stein died Jan. 22, 2003 at her home. She was born Dec. 25, 1944 in Park Rapids to Herbert M. Carlson and Mabel B. Gustafson and was an accountant.
She is survived by her husband, Duane; son, Gregory and wife Amy; grandchildren, Evan, Caleb and Molly; father, Herb Carlson; brothers, Dennis, Roger, Richard, Gaylord, Russell and Daniel Carlson; and sisters, Arlene Koski, Ava Crabb, Karen Carlson and Tina Tjepkes.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey; mother, Mabel Carlson; and two brothers.
Pallbearers were Dennis, Roger, Richard, Gaylord, Russell and Daniel Carlson.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Florence Tennison
Funeral services for Florence H. Tennison, 80, Anoka, took place Jan. 30 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Tennison died Jan. 24, 2003 at her home. She was born July 28, 1922 in Elk River to Fredrick and Merty Kluge.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Tennison of Rochester and Ellen (Neil) Pence of Northfield; grandchildren, Darrell Oviatt, Lisa Weber and Corey Pence; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harold R. Tennison.
Interment was at Vernon cemetery, Elk River. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Joan Arnold
Funeral services for Joan B. Arnold, 69, Anoka, took place Feb. 6 at Thurston-Lindberg Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Richard Steinholtz officiated.
Arnold died Feb. 3, 2003. She was born Feb. 4, 1933 in Waterville to George and Aileen (Chambers) Moe.
She is survived by her children, Mike (Kris) Arnold of Clear Lake, Pat (Nancy) Arnold of Elk River, Mark (Carol) Arnold of Plymouth, Nancy Arnold of Andover, Brad (Betty) Arnold of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and uncle, Lloyd Chambers of Waterville.
Interment was at Waterville. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Ellen Christian
Funeral services for Ellen H. Christian, 90, Anoka, took place Feb. 3 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Liane Rock officiated.
Christian died Jan. 29, 2003 at Ambassador Good Samaritan Home, New Hope. She was born Aug. 17, 1912 in Minneapolis to John and Emma Johnson and was the former owner of Herr Schmidt's Tavern in Anoka.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert.
Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Crystal. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Erma Erickson
Funeral services for Erma J. Erickson, 77, Anoka, took place Feb. 5 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Marty McCowan officiated.
Erickson died Feb. 1, 2003 at Twin Rivers Care Center. She was born March 2, 1915 in Montevideo to Emil Christenson and Myrtle Johnson, and was a retired assembler.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Greg) Kraus, Linda Jameson, Michelle Erickson, Michael Erickson; two brothers; two sisters; grandchildren, Kelli Kraus, Gina Jameson, Brady (Kristiane) Jameson, Wendy (Drew) Pohar, Matthew Jameson; and great-grandchildren, Lynsy Jameson, Taylor Pohar, Mallory Hicks, Riley Pohar and Samantha Jameson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirly Erickson.
Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.
Frances Geroux
Private services took place for Frances A. Geroux, 90, Anoka.
Geroux died Jan. 27, 2003 at Whispering Pines, The Elms, Anoka. She was born Oct. 27, 1912 in Gilmanton, Wis., and was retired nurse and owner of a supper club in Eau Claire, Wis.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Vinopal, of New Brighton; granddaughter, Teresa (Robert) Orsello, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Christine (Ronald) Rundquist of Zimmerman; and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Stephanie Orsello of Scottsdale.
She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Vinopal; and husbands, Charles Leroux and Francis Vinopal.
Interment was at Augusta cemetery, Augusta, Wis. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.
James Hastings
Funeral services for James H. Hastings, 71, Cypress, Calif., took place Jan. 28 at St. Barnabus Catholic Church.
Hastings died Jan. 23, 2003. He was the founder of Star Jewelers, Long Beach, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Molly; son, Steve Hastings; grandchildren, Taylor and Jeffrey Hastings; 21 adopted grandchildren; sister, Bev Dehn of Anoka; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
Interment was at All Souls cemetery.
Dorothy Johnson
Memorial services for Dorothy M. Johnson, 96, Anoka, will take place in the future at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka.
Johnson died Jan. 27, 2003 at her home. She was born March 26, 1906 in Canada and was a retired elementary school teacher.
She is survived by her sister Ruth McCarthy of Florida; nieces, Judy Bendiske (Art) of Anoka, Hazel Chapman (Ed) of Bay City, Mich., Rachel Granstra of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
