Philip Hanson
Funeral services for Philip J. Hanson, 26, Ramsey, took place Feb. 12 at Emmanuel Christian Center, Spring Lake Park. Rev. Nate P. Ruch officiated.
Hanson died Feb. 9, 2003 in a snowmobile accident in Sherburne County Park Reserve. He was born Oct. 22, 1976 in Robbinsdale to Kenneth J. Hanson and Janice L. Hanson, and was a pressman at John Roberts Company.
He is survived by his wife, Katie; daughter, Brittnee; mother, Janice (Leroy) Kucera; father, Kenneth (Laurel); sister, Kellie (Scott) Makela; brother, Scott Kaufman; grandparents, Ardes and Harold Hanson, Lloyd Hanson; and nieces and nephews, Ethan, Carlie and Faith.
Pallbearers were Scott Kaufman, Corey Hagerty, Scott Makela, Darryl Drozdik, Brian Carlson and Shawn Aseby.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Homes, Anoka.
Dolores Herrala
Funeral services for Dolores S. Herrala, 70, Anoka, took place Feb. 8 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Ramsey. Rev. Hilton Hammer officiated.
Herrala died Feb. 5, 2003 at Valley Hospital at Hidden Lake, Golden Valley. She was born Jan. 25, 1933 in Ely to Antone Takavitz and Sylvia Peitso.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons, David (Sandy), Mark (Judy), Michael (Shannon), Dan (Wanda), Douglas, Steve (Sherry); 11 grandchildren; and sisters, Antoinette (Dennis) Grahek.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Cecelia Anderson.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Homes, Anoka.
Virginia Grinde
Memorial services for Virginia Rose Grinde, 83, Ham Lake, will take place at a later date.
Grinde died Feb. 8, 2003 at Grandview Christian Home, Cambridge. She was born March 1, 1919 in Warba to Andrew and Violet Felix.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald and wife Sheryn Hamm of Ham Lake, Donald Monroe of Columbia Heights, Bernard Grinde of Grand Rapids; brother, Andrew (Maryann) Felix of Warba; sister, Margaret Rucks of Murray, Utah; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Hamm and Ervin Grinde.
Arrangements are by Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.
Grant Hawkins
Funeral services for Grant W. Hawkins, 78, Anoka, took place Feb. 11 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel. Rev. Liane Rock officiated.
Hawkins died Feb. 8, 2003 at Minnesota Veterans Hospital, St. Cloud. He was born July 17, 1924 in Hassan Township to William H. Hawkins and Marian Grant. He was a World War II Navy veteran and an independent insurance agent.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; children, William (Sandra), John, Gail (Hooshang) Hawkins, Charles (Mae); grandchildren, Kristen (Adam) Luhring, Katie Hawkins, Grant Hawkins, Sacha (Shari) Yasseri; and sister, Jean (Al) Vogel.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Avis Hartkopf; and brother, Irwin Hawkins.
Interment was at St. John's cemetery, Hassan. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka Chapel.
George Herda
Funeral services for George Herda, 86, Bay Lake, took place Feb. 8 at Salem Lutheran Church, Deerwood. Rev. David N. Anderson officiating.
Herda died Feb. 4, 2003 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd. He was born Feb. 28, 1916 in Sauter Township, N.D., to Albert and Annie (Kug) Herda. He was a World War II Army veteran, a life member of the Kraus-Hartig VFW Post, a retired partner of Daily-Herda Construction Company, a former owner of Spring Lake Park Lumber, and a charter member of Spring Lake Park Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters and sons-in-law, Joy (David) Winkel of Rochester, Jill Walker of Fridley, and Shelly (Brad) Welker of Coon Rapids; brother, James (Marion) Herda of Lakota, N.D; sisters, Mabel (Daniel) Shirek of Lakota, N.D., and Alice Truitt of Seattle, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Herda; and sister, Blanche Barrett.
Interment was at Bay Lake cemetery, Bay Lake Township. Arrangements were by Koop Funeral Home, Inc., Crosby.
Geraldine McNair
Funeral services for Geraldine E. McNair, 72, Coon Rapids, took place Feb. 11 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bernard Reiser officiated.
McNair died Feb. 7, 2003 in Coon Rapids. She was born Nov. 26, 1930 in Minneapolis to Francis and Pomela Hoecherl and was a cook.
She is survived by her children, Pamela McNair, Cathleen Homan (Michael), Colleen Hagerman, Jennifer McNair (Alton Spilde), Jeffrey McNair; grandchildren, Katie, Christine, Travis, Michael, Erin, Sarah and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Nautica, Jovan and a new angel; sister, Joan Reynolds; and many relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey and Travis McNair, David Kost, Michael Homan, Christine Hagerman, Shannon and Patrick Reynolds, and Ronnie Lungelow.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Maynard Pauley
Memorial services for Maynard C. Pauley, 80, Anoka, will take place Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 2 p.m., at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Anoka.
Pauley served as a Marine in the Pacific theater during World War II and was a Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Newton and husband David, Margo Rankin, and Marlene Pauley and husband Glen; grandchildren, Ann, Bryan, James, Stakla, Joshua, Kate and Elsa; sister, Donna Pauley; and brother, Homer Pauley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Jeanette Abbott
Funeral services for Jeanette B. Abbott, 84, Columbia Heights, took place Feb. 15 at Gearhart Funeral Home. Todd Luken officiated.
Abbott died Feb. 12, 2003 at her home. She was born Feb. 7, 1918 in Minneapolis to Daniel Oliver and Beatrice Engel and was a retired auto billing clerk.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marie (Pat) Porter, Marcia (Chuck) Gedney, Michelle (Neal) Himmerich; grandchildren, Todd, Shawn, Justin, Michael and Steven; great-grandchildren, Damon, Joshua, Kloejean and Olivia; and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos; and grandson, Jeremy.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Alice Ernest
Funeral services for Alice B. Ernest, 88, Anoka, took place Feb. 14 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Abraham McCarty officiated.
Ernest died Feb. 11, 2003 at Trevilla of New Brighton Care Center. She was born March 20, 1914 in Anoka to Charles and Elsie (Royce) Schmoldt.
She is survived by her children, John and wife Anastasia, Marianne Anderson and husband Jay; grandchildren, Heather Ernest, Justin, Jayson and Jona Anderson; great-grandchildren, Brieanna and Ryan Anderson; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Ethel Gorton
Funeral services for Ethel M. Gorton, 81, Ramsey, took place Feb. 19 at Nowthen Alliance Church. Rev. Robert Morton officiated.
Gorton died Feb. 14, 2003 at Guardian Angels By-The-Lake retirement home in Elk River. She was born May 26, 1921 in Brainerd to Charles H. and Flora (Meyers) Flansburg. She was a retired ward manager at the former Anoka State Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann (David) Peterson of Ramsey, Jean (Bob) Johnston of Centerville; grandchildren, Jeff (Teri) Johnston, Matthew Johnston, Keven (Stacy) Peterson, Greg Peterson; sister, Burnice Raddatz of Brainerd; brothers, Walter (Lori) Flansburg of Anoka, Richard (Betty) Flansburg of Becker; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville.
Pallbearers were Jeff, Matthew and Bob Johnston, and Greg and David Peterson.
Interment was at Lakeview cemetery, Nowthen. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Kevin Hanson
Funeral services for Kevin W. Hanson, 41, Coon Rapids, took place Feb. 15 at Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. John Kerr officiated.
Hanson died Feb. 13, 2003 in Coon Rapids. He was born April 10, 1961 in Mountain Lake and was a school building supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Carol, Lydia and Isaiah; father and mother, Wayne and Marge Hanson; brothers, Keith (Kristen), Brad (Deb); grandmother, Ida Hunstad; father-in-law, Dick Hollander (Colleen); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Randy Romsdahl, Greg and Dick Hollander, Tom Brady, and Keith and Brad Hanson.
Interment was at St. Olaf Church cemetery, Odin. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
