Helen Gave

Funeral services for Helen L. Gave, 71, Fridley, took place April 14 at Constance Free Church, Andover. Rev. Irv Discher officiated.

Gave died April 10, 2003 at Lynwood Health Care Center, Fridley. She was born Feb. 1, 1931 in Winton to John Saarella and Ina Maki.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie Horn, Julene (Randy) Holt, Gary (Laura) Gave, Theresa (Robert) Peterson; grandchildren, Jessica, Christina and Rachael Holt, Zachary and Jacob Gave, Derek and Samantha Peterson; sisters, Ellen Harju, Mildred Aronen, Eileen Gulbranson, and Doris Eliason; and brother, Marvin Saarella.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Gave.

Pallbearers were Zachary and Jacob Gave, Jessica, Rachael, Christina and Randy Holt, and Robert Peterson.

Interment was at Constance cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Leslie Godejohn

Funeral services for Leslie A. 'Leo' 'Lester' Godejohn, 59, Andover, took place April 10 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bill Steinke officiated.

Godejohn died April 10, 2003. He was born Aug. 15, 1943 in Stanley, N.D., and was a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Alysia Chouinard, Teresa Godejohn, Janel Carlson, Curtis Godejohn; step-children, Kimberly, Richard and Bobby Drolet; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandson; four sisters; one brother; and other relatives and friends.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Florence Johnson

Funeral services for Florence A. Johnson, 94, Anoka, took place April 11 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Adrian Piotrowski officiated.

Johnson died April 5, 2003. She was born June 6, 1910 in Dayton to Philip Dahlheimer and Delvina Morrisette. She was a retired assistant librarian at Anoka Public Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Van Heel and Mike Dvergsten; son, William; grandchildren, Carlen Pink, Corey, Candy, Chad and Wade Johnson, Melanie Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel Pink, Alexis Johnson, Christina Johnson, and Bryce Johnson; and brothers, Irwin, Douglas, John and Maurice Dahlheimer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Johnson; sister, Verna McNeil; and brother, Leon Dahlheimer.

Pallbearers were Wade, Chad and Corey Johnson, Brad Lawrence, Steven Pink and Michael Dvergsten.

Interment was at St. John the Baptist Catholic cemetery, Dayton. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.

Gladys Johnson

Funeral services for Gladys L. Johnson, 87, Anoka, formerly of St. Paul and St. Francis, will take place today (Friday, April 18), 11 a.m. at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Norman R. Berg will officiate.

Johnson died April 13, 2003 at her residence. She was born April 5, 1916 in St. Paul to Jacob and Lena (Haugen) Hover.

She is survived by her children, Joyce (Gordon) Hanson, Shirley (David) McNeill, Dorothy 'Dori' (Don) Schumacher, Ken (Leslie) Johnson; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Spiess; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer.

Pallbearers will be Paul Schumacher, Mike, Tim and David McNeill, and Chris and Gordon Hanson.

Interment will be at Oakview cemetery, St. Francis. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Marjorie Johnson

Funeral services for Marjorie A. Johnson, 53, Cedar, took place April 12 at Gearhart Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Bill DeZiel officiated.

Johnson died April 9, 2003 in Coon Rapids. She was born Aug. 5, 1949 in St. Paul to Alvin Erickson and Margaret Bever.

She is survived by her husband, Weldon; sons, Jeffrey and Nathan; granddaughter, Stephanie; parents Alvin and Margaret Erickson; sisters, Dianna (Eddie) Williams, Karen Erickson; and in-laws, Jeaninne Lund and LeRoy Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward; and grandparents.

Interment was at Rose City cemetery, Miltona. Arrangements were by Gearhart.

Lorraine Madsen

Funeral services for Lorraine Mary Madsen (Marohn), 82, Roseville, took place April 11 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Tom and Matthew Basich officiated.

Madsen died April 7, 2003 at Wyoming Hospital. She was born Dec. 9, 1920 in Elk River and was a retired teacher.

She is survived by her sons, Michael, Jon (Karen), Timothy and Paul; grandchildren, Sheridan Bartlett, Milo Madsen and Joshua Madsen; and brothers, Arnold Marohn (Anita) and Harley Marohn (Emily).

Pallbearers were Milo and Joshua Madsen, Sheridan Bartlett, Sid Williams, Steve Sandquist, Joe French, Jeff Cariolano and Greg Dahlke.

Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Laura Nemeth

Funeral services for Laura M. Nemeth, 82, Andover, took place April 10 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids, Rev. Joel Cycenas officiated.

Nemeth died April 5, 2003 at Anoka Care Center. She was born July 30, 1920 in Highmore, S.D., to Frederick and Caroline Herrboldt and was the owner with her husband of Nemeth's Grocery.

She is survived by her children, Edward (Sally) Nemeth of Elk River, Carol McLaughlin and Mary (Dick) Mussell, all of Anoka, Stephen Nemeth of Rice; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Herrboldt of Anoka, Julius (Matilda) Herrboldt of Elk River; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; parents; three sisters and five brothers.

Pallbearers were Chris, Jon, and Peter McLaughlin, Richard and Timothy Mussell, and Brooke, Todd and Troy Nemeth.

Interment was at Epiphany cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Marguerite Vaught

Funeral services for Marguerite J. Vaught, 86, Anoka, took place April 14 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bernard Reiser officiated.

Vaught died April 8, 2003 at St. Therese's Home, New Hope. She was born Jan. 20, 1917 to John and Catherine E. (Corkery) Hanley.

She is survived by her son, James (LaDonna) Vaught of Anoka; daughter, Susan Follett of Elk River; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Krantz of Arizona; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Vaught; twin sons, Michael and Patrick; and son-in-law, Barry Follett.

Pallbearers were James, Keith and Corey Mozey, Daniel and John Vaught; and David Haag.

Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Rhada Anderson

Funeral services for Rhada Evis Anderson, 90, Coon Rapids, took place April 19 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Curtis J. Holub officiated.

Anderson died April 15, 2003 at Camilia Rose Convalescent Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1912 in Ulen.

She is survived by her children, Kent (Nancy), Carole Chandler, Richard (Ellen Dubuque); grandchildren, Shelly Chandler, Mark Anderson (Gloria), Jennifer Wood (Mike), Jon Anderson; great-grandchildren, Christine, Catherine, Caroline Anderson, Landon and Bryce Wood; brother, Custer Syverson; and sisters, Winona Hansen and Noma Hewitt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Kenneth; son-in-law, Conrad; brother, Schuyler; and sisters, Maude Hogensen and Nelie Steward.

Interment was at Highland Grove cemetery, Hitterdahl. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy, Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Helen Appel

Funeral services for Helen D. Appel, 54, Blaine, took place April 22 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church.

Appel died April 16, 2003. She was born April 19, 1948 in St. Paul to Ann Connolly and was a member of the St. Timothy Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Beverly Teske; stepdaughters, Rose Scovill and Becky Appel; son, Charles Appel; grandchildren, Justin Opsahl, Shane Scovill and Natasha Scovill; sisters, Daisy Felber, Catherine Freiberg and Mary Hartman; brothers, Earl and Walter Freiberg; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann T. Ziegler; and mother, Ann Freiberg.

Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.
