Marilyn Nelson
Funeral services for Marilyn M. Nelson, 68, Champlin, took place June 5 at Bridgewater Community Church. Rev. Tom Stuart officiated.
Nelson died June 3, 2003. She was born Dec. 26, 1934 in Duluth.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Scott (Sharon), Craig (Suzy), Pam (Mark) Hayes; grandchildren, Callie, Nick, Lauren, Drew, Bobby, Alesha, and Alex; and brother, Roger Halverson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Hilmer Halverson.
Pallbearers were Ron Polley, Larry East, Jim Lewis, John Brett, John Schultz and Sid Brotherton.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Charles Reynolds
Funeral services for Charles E. Reynolds, 74, formerly of Champlin, took place June 16 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Reynolds died June 8, 2003 at Hennepin County Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1929 in Racine, Wis., to Melvin M. Reynolds and Iris L. Hall and had worked in the marble industry.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanne (Richard) Davis; brother, Michael (Dolly); and nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Roland Bell
Funeral services for Roland A. Bell, 79, Cedar, took place June 12 at Cedar United Methodist Church. Rev. Kristen Grant officiated.
Bell died June 9, 2003 at Bethesda Hospital, St. Paul. He was born Jan. 23, 1924 in Pine City to William and Clarissa Bell. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was employed at FMC for 32 years, and then ran his own taxidermy business. He and his wife cared for more than 152 foster children over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Michael Bell and wife LuLu of Isanti, Steven Bell and wife Lou Ann of Isanti, Kevin Bell and wife Karen of Isanti, Roland Bell Jr. and wife Patty of Kansas; brothers, Orrie Bell of Chisago City, Jim Bell of Arkansas, and Edward Bell and wife Rebecca of Wyoming; sisters, Ethel Bergindahl and husband Kermit of St. Paul, Pruda MacNamara of Florida; grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Kelly, Chrissie, Cassie, Carrie, Ryan, Tammy, Lori and Mike; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Noah, Kody, Mason, Tiffany, Nicholas, David and Brayden; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clarissa; brothers, Sylvester, Harry and Boyde; sister, Claretta Wagner; and granddaughter, Linda Bell.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer was Dick Bartz.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.
Randy Berthiaume
Funeral services for Randy J. Berthiaume, 41, Anoka, took place June 18 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Bill Deziel officiated.
Berthiaume died June 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born March 28, 1961 in Anoka to Archibald A. and Marjorie A. (Kalk) Berthiaume. He was an assembler of thermostatic controls at Honeywell.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie; son, Jacob; daughter, Jaclyn; special friend, Jamie; parents, Archie and Marge; brothers, Tim, David, Dan and Brian; sisters, Lynn Berthiaume and Pam Roschild; in-laws, Judy Kirchner and Doug, Marcie, Joie, John and Mike; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and father-in-law, Jack Kirchner.
Pallbearers were Tim David, Dan, and Brian Berthiaume, and John and Mike Kirchner.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Theodore Dioties
Funeral services for Theodore C. 'Babe' Dioties, 84, Coon Rapids, took place June 9 at Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bernard Reiser officiated.
Dioties died June 4, 2003. He was born Jan. 7, 1919 in St. Paul and was 34-year employee of NSP.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; nieces, Patti Bakken and Nancy O'Brien; and grand-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jack Duffy, Marty, John, Robert and Tom LaDuke, and Mark Bakken.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Oiva Karna
Funeral services for Oiva J. 'Whitey' Karna, 90, Ham Lake, took place June 10 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bill Steinke officiated.
Karna died June 7, 2003. He was born Aug. 24, 1912 in Ryder, N.D.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; sisters, Hilja Jones; adopted son, Leonard (Sally) Laskow; one niece; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Dean Larson
Funeral services for Dean E. Larson, 77, Coon Rapids, took place June 17 at Gearhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Rev. Jim Martin officiated.
Larson died June 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born June 20, 1925 in Lilly S.D., to Sam Larson and Ruth Paul, and was a retired assembler for Hypro Engineering Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Erma; children, Nancy Kay Larson, Larry Dean (Brenda) Larson, Jean (Gary) Carlson, Jonathan (Jean) Crider, Gary (Sue) Crider; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles, Sam, Oral, Ralph; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
Pallbearers were Josh and Duane Larson, Joe Spano, and Gary, John and Erick Crider.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Robert Platte
Memorial services for Robert D. Platte, 85, Blaine, took place June 16 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel. Rev. Al Keller officiated.
Platte died June 9, 2003 at North Memorial Medical Center. He was born Sept. 28, 1917 in Eau Claire, Wis., to George M. Rickaby and Elva Dunn and was a retired educator and World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his son, Robert W. Platte (Sharon Bailey); daughter, Robin (James) Parks; Scott Parks and Kimberly Richter, children of James Parks; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Ellen and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.
James Schrantz
Funeral services for James E. Schrantz, 66, Coon Rapids, took place May 30 at Epiphany Church, Coon Rapids. Revs. Thomas Kunnel and Bernard Reiser officiated.
Schrantz died May 26, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1936 in Elk Mound, Wis. He was a civil engineer and former city administrator for Andover.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Jayne Watson (Kevin), Kelley Bujak (Dale), Patricia Wilkins (Mark), Anthony Schrantz (Michelle); grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Timothy and Stephanie Watson, Alexander, Douglas and Jessica Bujak, Karleigh and McKenzie Wilkins, Zachary and Rachel Schrantz; and mother, Edythe Schrantz.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ed.
Pallbearers were all his grandchildren.
Interment was at Epiphany cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Lester Solberg
Funeral services for Lester H. Solberg, 60, St. Francis, took place June 19 at St. Francis United Methodist Church. Rev. Rhodel Jacobson officiated.
Solberg died June 14, 2003 in Birchwood, Wis. He was born Nov. 27, 1942 in Eau Claire, Wis., to Leslie and Juanette Solberg and was a sign hanger for Sign Crafters.
He is survived by his wife, Viola 'Cookie;' son, Carl; grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Cody and Lillie; sisters, Alice (Bob) Anderson of Onalaska, Wis., Janice (Ken) Ginzl of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Joyce (Bruce) Solberg of Eau Claire, Wis.; brothers, Jim (Kathy) Solberg of Eau Claire, Wis., and Tom (Cindy) Solberg of Shakopee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Juanette Solberg.
Pallbearers were Mike Hansen, Brian Pearson, Bob Peach, Tom Solberg, Ken Ginzl and Chris Lundby.
