Doris Benson
Funeral services for Doris G. Benson, 76, Coon Rapids, took place June 24 at Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. James Donald officiated.
Benson died June 21, 2003 at Camilia Rose Care Center, Coon Rapids. She was born Aug. 15, 1936 in Pilot Mound Township to Lorence and Beata Sorenson.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (Kathy) of Eagle River, Ark., Robert (Pamela) of Lansdale, Pa., Randy (Carol) of Blaine; grandchildren, Mae, Erin, Luke, Sam, Christine and Katie; great-granddaughter, Molly; sister, Lillian Haggen; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Donna Eckman
Funeral services for Donna Eckman, 74, Blaine, took place July 2 at Christ Lutheran Church, Blaine. Rev. Margaret Guelker officiated.
Eckman died June 29, 2003 at Unity Hospital. She was born Aug. 27, 1928 to William Freeman and Lil Martinson.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Bill (Denetta), Allyson (Doug) Goth, Kari (Steve) Dahl, Joel (Chris), Dennis (Andrea); 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Betty Fuller, Joann (Loren) Voss, Doris Segelstrom; sister-in-law, Bernice Freeman; and brothers, William (Mary) Freeman and Gordon (Carole).
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Beth and Dana; and brother, Loyal Freeman.
Pallbearers were Joel, Dennis and Shawna Eckman, Adam and Matt Goth and Ashleigh Stuart-Calvert.
Interment was at Pennock. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.
Eugene Gallagher
Funeral services for Eugene G. Gallagher, 64, Cedar, took place June 24 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, ak Grove. rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.
Gallagher died June 30, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1938 in Anoka to Gerald Gallagher and Mildred Cox and was a machinist at Federal Cartridge.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Deb (Gary), Brenda (Joe), Brian (Sandee), Keith (Nancy); grandchildren, Kyla, Brian Jr., Jacob, Dustin, Sam, Dylan, Cole, Chase, Madeline; and mother, Mildred.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jamie Koehler; father, Gerald Gallagher; and godson, Todd Gallagher.
Interment was at St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Jules Hukee Jr.
Funeral services for Jules R. Hukee Jr., 59, Anoka, took place July 2 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka.
Hukee died June 28, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Hukee; children, Randy (Cindy) Hukee; Shelly (Scott) Darsow, Hollie Hukee, Kelly Hukee; grandchildren, Austen, Andrew, Alex, and baby to come; mother, Elizabeth Hukee; and siblings, Elizabeth (Sam) Deretich, Byron (Julie) Hukee, and Jocelyn (Keith) Kilpatrick.
Interment was at West Oak Grove cemetery.
Wayde Mulhern
Funeral services for Wayde Mulhern, 44, Blaine, took place June 24 at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Duane Salness officiated.
Mulhern died June 21, 2003. He was born June 11, 1959 in Milwaukee, Wis., and was a 22-year employee of Unisys, head coach of the Centennial girls' swim team, and past president of the Minnesota masters swim program.
He is survived by his parents, John and Beryl Mulhern of Glendale, Wis.; sister, Kaola (Jim) Buraczewski of Glendale, Wis.; niece and nephew, Julie and Taylor; aunts, Margaret Gehring of Los Angeles, Calif., 'Tanta' Bonnie (Pat) Wichlacz of Two Rivers, Wis.; and many friends.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Warren Owens
Funeral services for Warren 'Dick' Owens, 53, Anoka, took place June 21 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Byron Thompson officiated.
Owens died unexpectedly at his home June 17, 2003. He was a 20-year employee of the city of Anoka.
He is survived by his wife, Valarie; sons, Charles (Margaret) and Joshua; grandchildren, Tyler, Alicia and baby Alexa; sister, Linda (Curt) Koch; two nieces; three nephews; and many friends.
Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Maxine Wesp
Funeral services for Maxine Wesp, 80, Anoka, took place June 26 at First Baptist Church of Anoka. Rev. Abe Cardosa officiated.
Wesp died June 23, 2003 at her home. She was born Sept. 24, 1922 in Dunkirk, Mont., to Gaberial A. and Fern E. (Jackson) Burrell. She was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher at First Baptist Church of Anoka, member of the Anoka Community Concert Association, a 35-year member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer tutor for 15 years at Fort Elementary School in Pharr, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Sterling J. Wesp; children, Chrisann (Dr. Ron) Huston of Anoka, Terry (Douglas) Askren of Illinois, Rick (MaryKay) Wesp of Anoka, Randy (Donna) Wesp of Andover, Brian (Hayley) Wesp of Florida; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Elva Ulrich of Illinois, Doris Williams of Montana, and Marjorie Taylor of Washington; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaberial and Fern Burrell; daughter, Bonnie Pease; and brothers, Marshall and Jerry Burrell.
Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Mary Brindle
Funeral services for Mary Jane Brindle, 67, Northome, formerly of Anoka, will take place Thursday, July 17, 5 p.m., at Champlin American Legion.
Brindle died June 30, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was born Oct. 11, 1935 in Minneapolis to William F. Brindle and Clara V. Lang, and worked in shipping/receiving at Cornelius.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Mindy) Patchen and Judy Hildre; grandchildren, Trisha and James Patchen, Jake Kleusch, Andy and Kelly Hildre; and sisters, Joyce Beauchane and Kay Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Douglas Patchen.
Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Ethan Higgins
Funeral services for Ethan David Higgins, infant, took place June 13 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Joel Cycenas officiated.
He died June 10, 2003 from complications of Brittle Bone Disease. He was born May 4 to Jeramie and Heidi (VanVleet) Higgins of Blaine.
He is survived by his parents, Jeramie and Heidi; sister, Anna; grandparents, Dean and Jeanne VanVleet of East Bethel, David and Julie Higgins of Coon Rapids; and many other relatives and friends of the family.
Interment as at Epiphany cemetery.
Curtis Johnson
Funeral services for Curtis A. Johnson, 86, Cedar, took place July 3 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Edward Treat officiated.
Johnson died June 30, 2003 at Cambridge Hospital. He was born April 2, 1917 in Cedar to Nels A. and Esther E. (Smith) Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from Coca-Cola as a sales manager after 42 years.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Barbara) Johnson of Cedar, Kathleen (Gary Prigge) Walicke of St. Paul, Mary (Larry) Griesgraber of St. Paul, John (Becky) Johnson of Cottage Grove, Jan (Peter) Runyon of St. Paul; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margy.
Interment was at Cedar cemetery. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Harold Maupin
Funeral services for Harold William Maupin, 81, Champlin, took place July 7 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Chaplain Rex Beyer officiated.
Maupin died July 2, 2003 at his home. He was born Feb. 19, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Oscar Maupin and Edith McDonald and was a retired lighting director and floor supervisor at KARE 11. He also played drums in several bands round the country.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughters, Ameda (David) Williams and Edee (Randy) Fredrickson; son, Guy (Lisa) Maupin; sister, Lillian Haynes; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Harold 'Buddy' Holmes.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Richard Schoenecker
Funeral services for Richard J. Schoenecker, 65, Stevens Point, Wis., took place July 10 at St. Joseph Covenant Chapel, Stevens Point. Rev. Thomas Lindner officiated.
Schoenecker died at his home July 5, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Jane E. (Bauer) Schoenecker; daughter, Stephanie (Bob) Schreyer, of Independence; sons, Daniel of Rhinelander, Wis., and Kevin of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas Schreyer; brothers, Robert (Julie) of Makawao, Hawaii, Jerome (Jan) of Eagan, John of Bemidji; sisters, Mary (Dick) Stevens of Buffalo, Kathyrn (Dick) Jarvinen of Winona; Carol (Cathy Geist) Schoenecker of Minneapolis, Pat (Doug) Shoemaker of Apple Valley, Sue (Bob) Steffen of Plymouth, Martha (David) Harper of Laguna Niguel, Calif; mother-in-law, Gladys Bauer of Anoka; brother-in-law, Jerry (Heidi) Bauer of Ramsey; sister-in-law, Kathy (Jerry) Johnson of Aitkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
