Jack Stein
Funeral services for Jack F. Stein, 70, Elk River, took place July 11 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Rick Skare officiated.
Stein died July 8, 2003 at his daughter's home in Anoka. He was born Oct. 30, 1932 in Kingston, to Henry Stein and Selma Matilla. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a salesman for Salerno Foods.
He is survived by his children, Patricia (Gary) Bojan, Thomas Stein, Jacqueline (Ron) Shawd, Vicki (Doug) Trees, Christina Johnson, and Jack. R. Stein; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven sisters; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; infant daughter, Barbara Ann; and three brothers.
Pallbearers were Gary Bojan, Ron Shawd, Christopher Jones, Bobby and T.J. Meyer, and David Arndt.
Interment was at Amery cemetery, Amery, Wis. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
John Wigdahl
Memorial services for John Wigdahl, 86, Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Anoka, took place July 10 at John XXIII Catholic Church, Fort Collins.
Wigdahl died July 3, 2003 at Columbine Care Center East, Fort Collins. He was born March 3, 1917 in Minneapolis to Odin and Pearl Wigdahl. In the late 1930s he competed in the U.S. Skiing Nationals in Sun Valley, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division during World War II and earned a Purple Heart during combat in northern Italy. In Anoka, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters and the DFL Party, becoming a presidential elector in 1964. He moved to Fort Collins in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Mary Kay Loner (Robert); son, Matthew (Pamela); grandchildren, Kristin Loner, Brian Loner and Elizabeth Wigdahl, all of Colorado; sister, Harriet Hoffman of Grand Marais; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William.
Amy Augustson
Funeral services for Amy B. Augustson, 79, Anoka, took place July 18 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Bill Eaves officiated.
Augustson died July 15, 2003 at Guardian Angels Care Center, Elk River. She was born Jan. 8, 1924 in Anoka to Alfred and Eva (Thompson) Axelson.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis, Merle (Judith); grandchildren, Mark, Matt, and Jason; sister, Ada Paulson; brother, Malon Axelson; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.
Pallbearers were Mark, Matt and Jason Augustson.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Keo DeMars
Funeral services for Keo D. DeMars, 64, Blaine, took place July 22 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Jay Carlson, pastoral assistant, officiated.
DeMars died July 18, 2003. He was born June 4, 1939 in Elk River to Keo I. DeMars and Julia Belanger, and was a machinist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Darcie; stepchildren, Robert, Tom, Sheri, Scott; grandchildren, Andy, Michael, David, Christopher, Kyle, Chad; good friend, Flo; one brother; three sisters; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Keith and Dan Johnson, and Richard and Robert DeMars.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.
Helen Erickson
Funeral services for Helen T. Erickson, 89, Andover, took place July 22 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Anoka. Bishop Mark Howard officiated.
Erickson died at her home July 18, 2003. She was born Nov. 30, 1913 in Ronald, Wash., to Alexander and Milija (Hrnjak) Trtica.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (JoAnn) Erickson of Arizona and Clarence Erickson of Andover; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Milija Trtica; husband, Lloyd; and sister, Mary.
Pallbearers were George Christy, Gary Dribnak, Tom Holer Sr., Russ McGary, Ted Owens and Ralph Weeks.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Bernice Johnson
Funeral services for J. Bernice Johnson, 82, Anoka, took place July 19 at Anoka Covenant Church. Revs. Ted Nordlund and Nathan Powell officiated.
Johnson died July 16, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. She was born March 28, 1921 in Minneapolis to Matthew Nelson and Ruth Applequist, and was secretary at Anoka Covenant Church.
She is survived by her children, Denny (Lois Marie), Dick (Carolyn), Dave (Linda), Nancy (Steve) Weber, Gary (Sandy); grandchildren, Tony, Doug, Mike, Matthew, Sydney, Norah, Maria, Ben, Chrissy, Adam, Eric, Brian, Abby and Emmy; great-grandchildren, Tanja, Charley, Hiatt, Dresden, Harrison, Brittany, Nicholas, Rhiannon, Pheylan, Jerad, Bailey and Blake; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford.
Pallbearers were Tony, Doug, Mike, Ben and Matthew Johnson, and Adam, Eric and Brian Weber.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Ruth Lindwall
Funeral services for Ruth Mamie Schultz Lindwall, 90, Spring Lake Park, took place July 16 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Spring Lake Park.
Lindwall died July 13, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Gregory of Minneapolis; daughter, Crysone of Spring Lake Park; sister, Eileen of Elk River; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park.
Donald Newgaard
Funeral services for Donald C. Newgaard, 85, Anoka, took place July 17 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Adrian Piotrowski officiated.
Newgaard died July 14, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Minneapolis to James O. Newgaard and Margaret Christiansen. He was a World War II veteran and a retired tabulator at 3M.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Utsch; son, Jay (Colleen); grandchildren, Stacie and Ryan, Alisa and Nick; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Newgaard-Aznoe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn.
Interment as at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Sharon Othoudt
Funeral services for Sharon R. Othoudt, 66, Zimmerman, took place July 21 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Shane Burton officiated.
Othoudt died July 15, 2003 at Bryn Mawr Health Care Center, Minneapolis. She was born May 23, 1937 in Anoka to William and Inez Burton, and was a cashier.
She is survived by her children, Mark, Kenny, Linda Othoudt, Connie Berry, Judi Othoudt, Eydie (Tim) Fenger, David Jr; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Red, Swede, Roy, Bill, Denny, Corky and Art; sister, Shirley; former husband, David Sr.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Inez Burton; and brothers, Kenneth and Harold Burton.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Alfred Pierskalla
Funeral services for Alfred J. Pierskalla, 72, Coon Rapids, took place July 22 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bernard Reiser officiated.
Pierskalla died July 19, 2003 in Anoka. He was born Feb. 27, 1931 in St. Stephen and was a dairy farmer, Korean War veteran and Knights of Columbus member.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Lynnette (James) Weiss, Kathy (Dan) Belsheim, and Gary (Donna) Schultz; grandchildren, Randy, Scott, Jacob, Curtis, Tanya, Lucas, Dianna and Danny; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tony and Isabella; brother, Ernie (Irene) Pierskalla; sister, Adeline (Alfred) Ritter; nieces and nephews, Lloyd, Martin, Elmer, Geraldine, Tim, Carol, Glen, Janice, Darlene, Mike and Gail; and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Pierskalla.
Interment was at Epiphany cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Stephen Thurston
Stephen E. 'Steve' Thurston, 58, Anoka, died at University Hospital July 20, 2003. He was born Feb. 16, 1945 in Minneapolis to Edward and Marion (Farrier) Thurston, and was a self-employed plumber.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; stepsons, Bjorn and Erik Skogquist; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Ania and Henry Bochenski; brother, Edward; sisters-in-law, Jean and Judy Thurston; aunt, Donna Farrier; and nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; uncles, Larry and James Farrier; and aunt, Charlotte (Thurston) Wood.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
