Hazel Barnacle

Funeral services for Hazel E. Barnacle, 97, Andover, formerly of Anoka, took place July 28 at Anoka United Methodist Church. Rev. Brenda Kramer King officiated.

Barnacle died July 22, 2003 at her Farmstead of Andover residence. She was born July 18, 1906 in Courtland, Kan., to Elmer Hedges and Charlotte Creighton, and was a retired bookkeeper at Kottke's Bus Service. From 1946 to 1958, she and her husband ran the general store in Weber.

She is survived by her children, Wayne (Margaret), Gary (Cathy), Diane (Jack) Fischer; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Hedges; and sister, Eunice Holzinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; four sisters; and three brothers.

Pallbearers were Amy and Craig Miller, Sara Barnacle, Corey, Christine and Daniel Fischer, Amy-Lynn Cummings, and Kelly and Travis Dorion.

Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Virginia Bellows

Funeral services for Virginia V. Bellows, 81, Anoka, took place July 25 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Anoka Ward. Bishop Richard Anderson officiated.

Bellows died July 21, 2003 at Osseo Gardens Assisted Living. She was born July 7, 1922 in Scotts Bluff, Neb., to Rex Moore and Martha Arnold, and was a retired sales clerk at an Anoka dress shop.

She is survived by her children, Elaine (Bud) Scott, Jaqie (John) Malinak, Don (Jan), Vicki (Norm) Orr, Kevin (Patti); son-in-law, Alan Williamson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Sheila) Moore; sister, Janet Bray; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; and daughter, Diane Williamson.

Pallbearers were Shelli and Bob Palmer, Kelli Scott, Norm Orr, Don Bellows Jr., Walter Ashley, and Alan Williamson.

Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Delphine Fredlund

Funeral services for Delphine Julia Fredlund, 89, Anoka, took place July 11 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka.

Fredlund died July 7, 2003. She was born in Duluth and was professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. She graduated from Ancker School of Nursing in 1938, and after her husband's death in 1950, she returned to school and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 1953. She was a supervisor of maternity at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and worked a school and public health nursing before earning a master's degree in 1959 and joining the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, then she earned a second master's degree from Boston University School of Nursing. She was a pioneer in the study of death education in the country and was a recognized national expert on the topic of 'Children and Death.'

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Jon Fredlund and wife Elizabeth of Anoka, Dr. Paul Fredlund and wife Penny, of Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Susan and husband Dr. David Wegge of De Pere, Wis.; grandsons, Brian Fredlund, Jon P. Fredlund, Jonathan Wegge; granddaughters, Diane Fredlund, Katie Fredlund and Kristine Liedtke (Daniel); greatgrandsons, Casey, Corey, Trystan, Joshua and Tyler; sister, Jeanne Olson of Champlin; sister-in-law, Ethel Bernitt; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Melvin Fredlund.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Floyd Hathaway Sr.

Funeral services for Floyd D. Hathaway Sr., 70, Anoka, will take place today (Friday, Aug. 1), 11 a.m., at Meadow Creek Church, Andover. Rev. James Thomason will officiate.

Hathaway died July 28, 2003 at Anoka Care Center. He was born Feb. 1, 1933 in Anoka to Don L. Hathaway and Hazel E. Farrier and was a Korean War veteran and a musician.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Hathaway, Brenda (Bill) Jahr, Mary (Dan) Lieb, Floyd Jr. (Julianne) Randy (Hilary), Tammy (Dave) Hathaway and Kelly; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Edward) Trippe, Gloria Benjamin, Bonnie Comeau; and brothers, Leo, Francis (Eileen), Bruce and Marvin (Eleanor).

Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Wayne Knudson

Funeral services for Wayne L. Knudson, 70, Andover, took place July 24 at Riverdale Assembly of God, Andover. Rev. Larry R. Hale officiated.

Knudson died July 21, 2003 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born Aug. 26, 1932 in Coon Rapids to Carl W. and Agnes M., (Anderson) Knudson and was president of Country Concrete.

He is survived by his wife, Vangie; children, Bonnie (Daryl) Lenz of Andover, Doug (Linda) of Becker, Debbie Conlin of Big Lake, Jodi (Bryan) Timmer of St. Francis; grandchildren, Heather (Shon) Severson, Eric and Kasey Knudson, Nichole, Dustin, Wayne and Mariah Conlin, Sophia Timmer; great-grandchildren, Haley and Abby Severson; siblings, Arlene Seeber of California, Lorraine Janiak of Anoka, Earl (Izzy) of Onamia, Floyd (Rose) of Brooklyn Center, Eugene (Marion) of Ramsey, Donna (Red) Johnson of Brooklyn Center; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Lenora Janiak, Elizabeth Thompson, Bertha Russell (Peirce), Donald Knudson, Louella Emmans and Agnes Becker.

Pallbearers were Bryan Timmer, Floyd Knudson, Dick Olson, Charley Smith, Dustin Conlin and David Collins.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

William Mead

Funeral services for William A. Mead, 78, Clear Lake, formerly of Champlin, took place July 29 at Becker Baptist Church, Becker. Rev. Rob Olsen officiated.

Mead died July 25, 2003 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Cloud. He was born Jan. 11, 1925 in Champlin to Albert W. and Ruth (Mellow) Mead and was a retired shipping dock worker.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; son, Arnold Mead and wife Doris; grandson, Steven Mead; granddaughter, Carrie Briggs and husband Patrick; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Amanda Mead, Anna Rose Briggs; brother, Larry Mead and wife Rhoda; stepchildren, Kenneth Cameron and wife Janet, Doyle Cameron, Sheila Hagstrom and husband Edward, Wade and Frank Cameron, Tanya Youness and husband Bryan; eight stepgrandchildren; one step great-grandson; and family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; and parents, Albert and Ruth Mead.

Pallbearers were Kenneth and Sean Cameron, Edward Hagstrom, Dennis Koste, Gerald Hansen and Warren Dehn.

Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Anoka., Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Katherine Schuster

Funeral services for Katherine B. Schuster, 89, Woodbury, formerly of Anoka, took place July 24 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Bill Deziel officiated.

Schuster died July 20, 2003 at Woodbury Health Care Center. She was born Jan. 7, 1914 in Stillwater to James H. Ward and Lucinda McIlree and was retired from the library staff at the Anoka County Library.

She is survived by her son, Tedd (Jean); grandchildren, Sally (Jeff) Matchette, Dan (Angie) and John; great-grandchildren, Emily, Owen and Erin Schuster, Jaden Matchette; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Lucy and Jim Ward; and brother, Jack Ward.

Pallbearers were Jeff Matchette, John and Dan Schuster, Truman and Phillip Kellie, and Jim Ward. Honorary pallbearer was Ed Coleman.

Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Galen Blakesley

Funeral services for Galen Blakesley, 'The Red man, ' 49, Ham Lake, were Aug. 7 at Fort Snelling. The memorial visitation took place Aug. 6 at the Mankato Mortuary.

Blakesley, an avid bike rider, was killed instantly in a bike-riding accident Aug. 1, 2003. Red (Blakesley) was a Vietnam veteran and a glazier for the Local Union 1324. He was known for his free spirit and will be remembered Sept. 6 by family and friends during a memorial bike ride and benefit at Hunters Inn.

Blakesley is survived by his son Jared of Kasota, daughter Shelly Totzke, grandson Gabriel of Alexandria, mother Helen Mraz of Sturgeon Lake, dear friends Wayne (Karen) Erickson of Ham Lake, Earl and Ivy Erickson of East Bethel and Jill Marlow of Northfield.

Matthew Collin

Funeral services for Matthew L. Collin, 21, Blaine, took place Aug. 1 at Living Word Christian Center, Brooklyn Park. Rev. Chris Kallison officiated.

Collin died July 29, 2003 in Eagan. He was born March 2, 1982 in Thief River Falls to Brad and Kim Collin, and was a manager of manufacturing.

He is survived by his parents, Brad and Kim Collin; brothers, Mark (Sarah), Nick; sister, Rachale; grandparents, Gordon and Margaret Collin; grandmother, Lee Pribyl; nephew, Bradley III; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Larry Pribyl.

Interment was at Mound cemetery, Brooklyn Park. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine Chapel.

Jack Flagg

Funeral services for Jack Flagg, 66, Blaine, took place July 29 at the Church of Epiphany in Coon Rapids.

Flagg died July 24, 2003. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey and is survived by his wife of 43years Rose. Flagg is also survived by his daughters Teresa (Eric), Sharon and Julie, sons John (Teresa) and Jim, daughter-in-law Kathy, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson, his twin brother Bill, sisters nancy, Jan and Pat (Oscar) and other relatives and friends.

Internment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel of Coon Rapids.

Barbara Gerjets

Funeral services for Barbara C. Gerjets, 67, Blaine, took place Aug. 1 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Oak Grove, Rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.

Gerjets died July 29, 2003 in Coon Rapids. She was born Dec. 29, 1935 in Minneapolis to Frances Gratton and Helen Eisenkramer and was a personal banker.

She is survived by her husband, Erlin; children, Kathleen Watson and fiance Steve, Lisa and Jeff Pedersen, Theresa and Clint Hill, David and Jean Gerjets; grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Cody, Howard, Robert, Kristine, Joseph, Benjamin, Emily; great-granddaughter, Abigail; sister, Susan (Gerald) Murry; brother, Thomas Gratton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerome Gratton.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
