Gene Kuss
Funeral services Gene S. Kuss, 61, Lake Shore, Minn., took place Aug. 8 at the Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home. Pastor Russell Kalenberg officiated.
Kuss was born Dec. 12, 1941 to Eugene and Evelyn Kuss in Minneapolis. He died Aug. 5, 2003. The self-employed contractor is survived by his son Nicholas, daughter Shanon (Mike) Adams, grandson Jeron, granddaughter Lexie, sister Kathy (Craig) Kaufman, niece Tracy (Hichem) Granaoui and their son Skander and the mother of his children, Pat. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Evelyn.
Kuss was cremated. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Norma Knaus
Funeral services for Norma J. Knaus, 78, Anoka (formerly of East Bethel), took place Aug. 7 at the Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel. Rev. Robert Valit officiated.
Knaus was born June 2, 1925 in Minneapolis to Robert and Louise Hofer and died Aug. 4, 2003 at the Anoka Care Center. She was a homemaker.
Knaus is survived by her son John, grandson Tony, brother Rev. Robert Valit, three sisters-in-law and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph.
Internment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
John Lee
Funeral services for John H. Lee, 68, Coon Rapids, took place Aug. 7 at the Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids.
'Jack' Lee died Aug. 4, 2003. He is survived by his wife Lavina, daughter Janet (Aaron) Eckroad, sons John (Linda) Lee, Mort (Michelle) Wald, Paul (Jana) Wald, Jeff (Jody) Wald, grandchildre n Brittani, Ian, Zachary, Elizabeth, Arnanda, Tanner, Kayla, Emma Rae, brothers Peter (Eleanor) Lee, Kenneth (Karen) Lee, Richard Lee, and sister Nancy Marek.
He was preceded in death by his sister Elaine.
Internment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy.
Ralph Anderson
Funeral services for Ralph G. Anderson, 82, Anoka, took place Aug. 7 at Anoka United Methodist Church. Revs. Bill Eaves and Brenda Kramer-King officiated.
Anderson died Aug. 4, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1921 in St. Francis to Simon and Ethel Anderson. He was a retired Minnesota Highway Department maintenance supervisor, member of the Anoka Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the Coon Rapids VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Lee); brothers, Harold of California, Gerald (Jane) of Cambridge; sister, Phyllis of California; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald.
Interment was at Oakwood cemetery, Mora. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Joseph Arthur
Funeral services for Joseph R. Arthur, 74, Golden Valley, took place Aug. 18 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Rick Santiago officiated.
Arthur died Aug. 15, 2003 at North Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1929 in Stout, Ohio, and was a retired chef.
He is survived by his children, Fran (Chuck) Morrison, Randy (Terri) Arthur, Carol Arthur, Cindy Arthur, Tom Arthur; grandchildren, Jennifer, Chad, Kristina, Jenna, Lisa, Joe, Laura; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Nick and Jabin; brother, Philip Arthur; and sister, Geraldine Schultz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.
Pallbearers were Cindy, Tom, Randy, Carol, and Terri Arthur, and Fran Morrison.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Clarence Chouinard
Funeral services for Clarence J. Chouinard, 87, Anoka, took place Aug. 16 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Adrian Piotrowski officiated.
Chouinard died Aug. 12, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1915 in Elk River to Alfred Chouinard and Marie Morin and was a retired welder. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division in World War II and took part in the June 6, 1944 Normandy landings.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Judy Marie;. and many relatives and friends.
Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka.
Michael Hayes
Funeral services for Michael D. Hayes, 47, Oak Grove, took place Aug. 18 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Jerry Smith officiated.
Hayes died Aug. 13, 2003 at his home. He was born in Minneapolis Dec. 20, 1955 to Charles and Geraldine T. (Miller) Hayes.
He is survived by his mother, Geraldine; brothers, Charlie and Brian; sister, Colleen Sellars; granddaughter, Samantha; nieces, Jennifer, Katy and Kelcie; nephew, Ryan; special friends, Bill and Linda Richarson; and longtime friend, Sue Asher and her daughter Leah.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn; and father, Charles.
Interment was at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Harlen Henke
Funeral services for Harlen J. Henke, 47, Dayton, took place Aug. 20 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Norm Berg officiated.
Henke died Aug. 16, 2003 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Paul. He was born in Minneapolis March 13, 1956 to Harlen H. and Elizabeth (Stech) Henke.
He is survived by his wife, Jelene; daughter, Heidi (Paul) Heinzel of Madison Lake; mother, Betty Henke of Waubun; brothers, Robert (Sharon) Henke of Dayton, David (Cindy) Henke of Robbinsdale, Daniel Henke of Buffalo, Dennis (Tammy) Henke of Anoka; John Henke of Georgia; sisters, Carol (Charles) Chastine of Georgia, Denise Henke of Anoka, Terri Jackson of Rush City; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harlen; and brother, Donald.
Pallbearers were Robert, David, Dennis, John and Bobby Henke and Paul Heinzel.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Corinne Herrboldt
Funeral services for Corinne S. Herrboldt, 78, Anoka, took place Aug. 14 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.
Herrboldt died Aug. 8, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. She was born Sept. 9, 1924 in Minneapolis to Clarence L. and Viola J.M. (Sukow) Yungner, and was a retired sales clerk at Montgomery Ward.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Larry) Smith of Anoka; son, Kevin Herrboldt of Champlin; stepdaughter, Mona Lofgren of Coon Rapids; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Ravden Swanson of Brooklyn Center, Elaine (Dar) Vriesman of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Rosalie Jensen
Rosalie M. Jensen, 88, Andover, died Aug. 7, 2003. She was born Oct. 30, 1914 in Wilmot, S.D.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Flock and husband Richard of Colorado; son, Joel and wife Sherry of Arizona; son-in-law, Arnie Dirks; grandchildren, Scott Jensen and Jennie Dirks; brother, Pete Remund; and sister, Angela Steele.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; and daughter, Marjorie Dirks.
Arrangement were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Carter Johnson
Funeral services for Carter Allan Johnson will take place today (Friday, Aug. 22) at 1 p.m. at Service of Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Eric Walbot will officiate.
He was born and died Aug. 9, 2003 at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Lisa Johnson and sister, Kailey, all of Champlin; grandparents, Paul and Carol Johnson of Pipestone and Edgar and Lila Vermeer of Brandon, S.D.; aunts, Cynthia Wiest and husband Kevin of Rochester, Amy Maher and husband Mike of Hutchinson; and cousins, Lucas and Nicolas Wiest, and Makayla and Izabella Maher.
Pallbearers are Kevin Wiest and Mike Maher.
Interment will be at Champlin cemetery. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
George Kottke
Funeral services for George R. Kottke, 93, Anoka, took place Aug. 19 at Anoka United Methodist Church. Rev. Brenda Kramer King officiated.
Kottke died Aug. 16, 2003 at the Anoka Care Center. He was born Dec. 28, 1909 in Maple Grove to Herman Kottke and Lena Keller, and was the owner/operator of Kottke Bus Company, which he and his wife founded in 1952. Prior to that he farmed, hauled milk, did general hauling, and took children to school on a school bus he bought in 1945, purchasing a second bus in 1948 after selling his milk route.
He is survived by his daughters, Elaine Kottke Sutherland of Anoka and Darlene (Lloyd) Hanson of Henderson, Nev.; 44 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Milton Kottke; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys and daughter Barbara Jean; second wife, Gladys and daughters Dorothy Beck, Phyllis Stevens, Margie Hippie; sisters, Elsie Klatt, Adelia Pipenhagen, Elizabeth Krause; and brothers, Ernest Klatt, Richard Kottke and Clarence Kottke.
Pallbearers were Brandon and Chase Williams, Garrett Zimmerman, Jeffrey and Jamie Hanson and Daniel Ingersoll.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
