L.W. McLean

Funeral service for L.W. 'Mac' McLean, 90, Coon Rapids, formerly of Dayton, took place Dec. 29 at Church of St. Stephen, Anoka.

McLean was the longtime manager of the Anoka American Legion Post.

He is survived by his children, Ed (Pat), Bill (Vickie), Sue Brletich (Jerry), Judy Larkin (Terry); grandchildren, Kelly McLean (Nancy), Wendy McLean, Karen Tengwall (Ryan), Marty McLean, Sandy Brletich, Tami Brletich, Shawn Larkin (Jean), Shelley Mattison (Brent) and Cynthia McLean; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Benton and Ailie; sister, Millie Ortiz (Bob); and sister-in-law, Mary McLean.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lulu; infant daughter; brother, Robert; and sister, Mary Ann Wyrenbeck.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Robert Patchen

Funeral service for Robert John Patchen, 61, St. Cloud, formerly of Anoka, took place Jan. 3, 2006 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.

Patchen died Dec. 29, 2005 in St. Cloud. He was born Nov. 3, 1944 in Anoka to John William and Lucille Ann (Burke) Patchen.

He is survived by his parents, John and Lucille; sisters, Judy (Don) Parkin, Diane (Mike) Sullivan and Marilyn (Harlan) Beyer; brother, Tom; niece and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers were Tom Patchen, Todd, Bill and Scott Sullivan and Harlan and Jeff Beyer.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Dakotah Schumacher

Funeral service for Dakotah David Schumacher, 11 months and 5 days, Coon Rapids, took place Jan. 5, 2006 at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church.

He is survived by his parents, Dustin Schumacher and Raquel Welte; grandparents, Michelle Schumacher and Steve Bramer, Dave and Amy Schumacher, Debbie Welte and Richard Welte; great-grandparents, Judy and Gary Buckley, Richard and Anna Mae Johnson, Dennis and Mary Ann Schumacher, Jim and Cindy Bordwell, Wes and Jean Bramer and Sally and Jerry Hable; uncles, Kyle, Tyler, Travis, Ryan and Ross; aunts, Kari, Karyn, Krista and Roxy; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, David James Bordwell.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Richard Stanton

Memorial service for Richard E. Stanton, 62, Coon Rapids, took place Jan. 7, 2006 at Christ Presbyterian Church, Edina.

Stanton died Dec. 31, 2005 at his home. He was born April 15, 1943 in Chicago, Ill., to G. Willis and Helen Stanton.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, Gary (Donna); nephews, Paul (Audrey) and Douglas; great-niece, Emily; and special friend, Kim.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Edna Wheeler

Funeral service for Edna Adell Wheeler, 72, Cambridge, took place Jan. 6, 2006 at Glen Cary Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Settergren officiated.

Wheeler died Dec. 31, 2005 at Cambridge Health Care Center. She was born March 8, 1933 in Minneapolis to Leonard and Marie V. (Dash) Greer and was a retired assembler at Honeywell after 29 1/2 years.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; son, Jeffrey (Annie); daughter, Judy (Delray) Kezar; stepdaughter, Chris (Jerry) Cornell; stepson, Jim (Debbie); grandchildren, April, David, Jennifer, Alicia, William, Natosha, Nicole, Nathan and Jake; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Isaac and Amelia; six sisters; two brothers; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Marie; sister, Jerolyn; and baby brother, Glen.

Pallbearers were Brian and Alan Wilcox, Matthew Graham, William and Daniel Weiss and Michael Ecker.

Interment was at Glen Cary Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ham Lake. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Susan Zurn

Funeral service for Susan Zurn, 78, Anoka, took place Jan. 11 at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.

Zurn died Jan. 8, 2006 in Anoka. She was born Aug. 9, 1928 in Anoka to Charles and Florence Meyer and was a retired cafeteria worker for Federal Cartridge.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; daughter, Julie Moon; and great-grandchild, Beulah Kreger.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Les and Bruce Meyer; and sister, Vane Kreger.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.

Antoine Awaijane

Funeral service for Antoine Assad Awaijane, 76, Blaine, took place at St. Maron Maronite Catholic Church, Minneapolis. Rev. Sharbel Maroun officiated.

Awaijane died Jan. 13, 2006 in Blaine. He was born May 15, 1929 in Batroun, Lebanon, to Assad and Amelia Awaijane. He worked as a deep sea diver in the fishing industry.

He is survived by his wife, Anisse; daughters: Amal (Fahed) Karam and Nawal (Halim) Zerka; sons, Abraham (Jovita), Fadi (Jocelyne) and Assad (Cynthia) Awaijane; grandchildren, Simon (Suzanne) Karam, Mary (Ghassan) Issa, Pauline (Andrew) Rizkalah, Anissy Karam, Michael, Anthony, Joseph and Danny Zerka, Graciella, Antoine, Nawal, Anisse, Gabrielle and Robert Awaijane; great grandson: Christopher Issa; brothers, Abraham, Edmond and George; and sisters, Lucia Hark, Maria Karam and Nazira Nour.

Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel.

Duane Derrig

Funeral service for Duane 'Buck' Derrig, 75, Blaine, took place Jan. 12 at Church of St. Paul, Ham Lake. Rev. Jon Vander Ploeg officiated.

Derrig died Jan. 7, 2006 at his home. He was born March 27, 1930 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was awarded the Purple Heart in the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a member of Union Local 1324 for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Michael (Linda) Derrig, Larry (Josie) Derrig, Steve Derrig; daughters, Linda (Steve) Trogdon, Julie Derrig, Jackie (Jeff) Amacher and Paula (John) Funk; grandchildren, Jessie, Angle, Tara, Nick, Kelly, Katie, Chris, Pam, Jenny, Jamie, Jessie and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Blake and Cole; two brothers; and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane; brother, Lawrence Derrig; sister Dodie Short; and parents.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Helen Flesch

Funeral service for Helen Mary Flesch, 83, Brooklyn Park, took place Jan. 11 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park. Rev. Jack Long officiated.

Flesch died Jan. 6, 2006 in St. Louis Park. She was born Oct. 17, 1922 in Chicago, Ill.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children, Susan Flesch, Michael (Nancy) Flesch, Thomas Flesch and Karen (David) Elowson; grandchildren, Casey, Cory and Kevin Flesch, Lauren and Erik Elowson; niece, Marlene; and nephews, Dennis and Jim.

Interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Jane O'Brien

Funeral service for Jane Frances O'Brien, 63, Blaine, took place Dec. 31, 2005 at Church of St. Paul, Ham Lake.

O'Brien died Dec. 27, 2005 in Fridley. She was born Aug. 21, 1942 in Spring Grove to Charles and Marjorie Cavanaugh.

She is survived by her husband, David W. O'Brien; children, Kevin (Donna) O'Brien, and Kimberley (Michael) Maffei; grandchildren, Brandon and Brady Maffei, Cooper and Parker O'Brien; sisters, Betty (Glen) Wiemerslage, Mary Lou (Don) Heintz, Ilene (Jim) Dougherty, Lorna (Ron) Schock and Teresa Johnston; and brothers, Mark Duffy and Robert (Vicki) Cavanaugh.

Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dorchester, Iowa. Arrangements were by Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel.

Neil Smith

Funeral service for Neil Clayton Smith, 84, Anoka, will take place tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 21), 11 a.m., at Anoka Wesleyan Church. Rev. Doug Swarthout officiated.

Smith died Jan. 15, 2006. He was born Jan. 28, 1921 in Anoka, to Stephen Hiriam and Zilla (Herrick) Smith. He was a retired general laborer at Anoka Electric.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Brenda Smith, Jeff Smith, Steve (Cindy) Smith and Pam (Joel) Zobava; children by marriage, Lynda (Mark) Domino, Debi (Jim) Patterson, Pati (Skip) Rothstein and Karin Ransley; grandchildren, Tristen, Jessica, Emma, Krystal, Kristina, Jeramy, Justin, Jerry, Ken, Charmane, Peter and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Gabriell, Arianna, Taylor, Caleb and Cody; and sister, Shirley (Arthur) Comstock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Zilla Smith; sister, Beryle Smith; granddaughter, Christina Smith; and first wife, Ellie (Peterson) Smith.

Interment will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Susan Zurn

Funeral service for Susan Zurn, 77, Anoka, took place Jan. 11 at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.
