Westrom Swanson

Funeral service for Westrom (Wes) Andrew Swanson, 87, Coon Rapids, took place Jan. 20 at Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. John Kerr officiated.

Swanson died Jan. 17, 2005 in Coon Rapids. He was born March 6, 1918 in Bethel to John and Hulda Swanson. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired printer, working at Federal Cartridge and the Anoka County Union and Shopper. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Coon Rapids American Legion and was also a member of the Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his children, Gwen Swanson, Craig Swanson (Jane) and Laurie Fedje (Jay); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Arlance; other relatives; and special friend, Mary Florentine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene.

Pallbearers were Craig and Dennis Swanson, Jay and Bernell Fedje, Jerry Janiak and Mark Waznik. Honorary pallbearers were Mark and Robert Swanson.

Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Louis Westrom

Funeral service for Louis Westrom, 86, Champlin, took place Jan. 26 at Servant of Christ Lutheran Church, Champlin. Rev. Brenda Legred officiated.

Westrom died Jan. 23, 2005 at the Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis. He was born May 21, 1918 in Elbow Lake to Bernard and Gina Westrom.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry (Betty) Westrom of New York, Louis (Chris) Westrom of Rosemount, Stan (Grace) Westrom of Champlin; 12 grandchildren; six great-great children; brothers, George (Sally) Westrom of California, Norlin (Emma) Westrom of Elbow Lake; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents, Bernard and Gina Westrom; brother, Sidney Westrom; and sister, Blanche Ricks.

Pallbearers were Tom Gordon, Doug Severson and John, Louis, Robert and Stanley Westrom.

Interment was at Riverview Cemetery, St. Paul. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Lance Chommie

Funeral service for Lance Chommie, 51, Coon Rapids, took place March 2, 2005 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Lance died on Saturday, February 26, 2005.

Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Rose Christenson

Memorial service for Rose Ida Christenson, 75, Coon Rapids, took place Feb. 27 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Christenson died Feb. 14, 2005.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Fred) Port of Coon Rapids, Steven of Forest Lake, Karen (Bill) Knudson of Indianola, Iowa, David (Connie) of Mounds View, Kevin (Carol) of Ham Lake; grandsons, Bill Jr. (Sarah), Eric, Peter (Kelsey), Caleb, Tyler (Heather), Joshua, Jared, James (Ann), Christopher, Nate; many great-grandchildren; sister, Minna; brother, Albert; many nieces and nephews; and relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George 'Chris;' and son, Kenneth.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

William Haemig Sr.

Funeral service for William Haemig Sr., 84, Minneapolis, formerly of Isanti, Bethel and Ham Lake, took place March 1 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, East Bethel. Rev. Steve Melander officiated.

Haemig died Feb. 23, 2005 at Hennepin County Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1920 in Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by his sons, Edwin and Penny of Bethel, William Jr. of Lexington, Keith and Mary of Coon Rapids and Tom of Cambridge; daughters, Sharon (Alfred) Sjostedt of Isanti and Genie Marie Haemig of North Branch; six grandchildren; three brothers; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes.

Pallbearers were Alfred Flancher and Edwin, Keith, Mark and William Jr. Haemig.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.

Garlene Hunter-Schlichting

Funeral service for Garlene Hunter-Schlichting, 44, Coon Rapids, will take place today (Friday, March 4), 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior, at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Hunter-Schlichting died unexpectedly Feb. 27, 2005.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters, DeVon and Rachel; mother and father; two sisters; one brother; special cousin, Chuck; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather.

Arrangements are by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Laura Lee

Funeral service for Laura B. Lee, 93, Anoka, will take place today (Friday, March 4), 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Norm Berg officiated.

Lee died Feb. 28, 2005 at Twin Rivers Care Center, Anoka. She was born Feb. 4, 1912 in Anoka to Frank and Mary (Schnaffner) French.

She is survived by her husband, Herb; daughter, Marlys (Bill) Campbell of Champlin; grandchildren, Danette Campbell of Maple Grove, Scott (Deb) Campbell of Sauk Rapids and Patty (Brian) Gronski of Andover; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kathryn and Emily Campbell and Stella Gronski; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary French; sister, Mary Peterson; and brother, Henry French.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Edwin Monson

Funeral service for Edwin Monson, 79, Ham Lake, formerly of Blaine, took place Feb. 26 at Glen Cary Lutheran Church, Ham Lake. Rev. Paul Settergren officiated.

Monson died Feb. 22, 2005 in Ham Lake. He was born April 11, 1925 in South Haven to Frank and Jessie Mary (Hart) Monson. He was employed in the 1950s and 1960s at Anoka Turkey Farms and farmed in Blaine for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Tim (Diane); daughter, Cori (Jeff) Santo; grandchildren, Will and Rob Monson, Alex and Clint Santo; brothers, Nels, Walter, Bobby and Elmer; sister, Amelia Crotty; and many other family and friends.

Pallbearers were Lee 'Bud' and Tony Beberg, Pete Hommes, Jerry Olson, Jeff Santo and Marty Ranger. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Boyer, Melanie Bentley and Katie Beberg.

Interment was at Glen Cary Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Michael Scott

Memorial service for Michael Scott, 58, Coon Rapids, took place March 1 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Scott died Feb. 27, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army and was a printer by profession from pressman to management.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Michelle (Sonny) Beeskow, Tracy (John) Schmidt and Nicole; sons, Chad (Stephanie), Justin and Bret; grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher, Bradley, Lisa, Q. Chace, Sydney, Halley and Madison; four sisters; one brother; eight brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Samuel Smuder

Funeral service for Samuel Ira Smuder, 76, Elk River, took place March 1 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Norman R. Berg officiated.

Smuder died Feb. 26, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Cloud. He was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Anoka to Simeon Ignatious and Leora Blanche (Morrow) Snyder and was retired after 39 years as a foreman at Federal Cartridge.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Sherry (Chris) Evans, Phyllis (Stuart) Burmester, Kevin (Rammy) Scott and Gordon (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ellen, Shawn, Sam, Lucetta, Lacie, Ryan and Justin; sisters, Veronica Keillor, Blanche (Joe) Wright and Irene Sundberg; brother, Wesley (Elaine); and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Ryan, Sam, Steve and Justin Smuder and Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. Paris.

Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.

Kathleen Wass

Funeral service for Kathleen G. Wass, 96, Champlin, took place Feb. 19 at Advent Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Robert Linstrand officiated.

Wass died Feb. 15, 2005 in Champlin. She was born July 13, 1908 in Fosston to Louis Gorder and Olive Thorson.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverlee Wass, Karen (Paul) Freeman Pratt; two grandsons; five great-grandsons; two great-great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland; granddaughter, Kathleen Anderson; two sisters; and one brother.

Interment was at Glen Haven Cemetery, Crystal. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.
