Kathryn McCarthy
Celebration of life for Kathryn M. McCarthy, 63, LaCrosse, Wis., formerly of Coon Rapids, took place April 30 at her niece's home.
McCarthy died April 19, 2005 at her home. She was born May 11, 1941 in LaCrosse to Donald and Myrtle (Iverson) Melde. She taught music therapy as an employee of Opportunity Workshop.
She is survived by her mother; daughters, Kristie L. Kashmark, Sue Ellen (Gary) Beckman and Barbara (Lonny) Christiansen; sons, James P. (Becky) McCarthy and Joseph A. McCarthy; sisters, Donna Pedretti, Marge (Floyd) Briggs, Mary (Gerald) Schaller, Theresa Mattison and Pat (Fred) Freng; brothers, John (Pat) Melde and Tom (Renee) Melde; grandchildren, Torrey Rozyeki, Jerome, Amanda and Jessica Kashmark, Justin and Ashley Beckman, Christopher and April Christiansen, Andrew, John and Amanda McCarthy; and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her children's father, Roy E. McCarthy.
August Post
Funeral service for Rev. August H. Post, 77, Coon Rapids, took place Aug. 23 at Woodcrest Baptist Church, Fridley. Revs. Mark A. Poorman and Art Robbins officiated.
Post died April 20, 2005 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Hawthorn, N.J., and was a pastor of seven churches over a 40-year period.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Cheryl (Gary) Sumner, Janet (Marv) Shold, Nancy (Jeff) Fuller, Brad (Donna) and Rick (Beth); 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a niece and nephew.
Interment was at Mound Cemetery, Brooklyn Center. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Richard Sha
Memorial service for Richard Leo Sha, 79, rural Vergas, formerly of Anoka, took place May 2 at Faith Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids. Rev. David Eggebraten officiated.
Sha died April 27, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes. He was born Aug. 4, 1925 in Pelican Rapids to Edward and Clara (Swenson) Sha. He served as a mortar gunner in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was employed by the Minnesota Department of Health from 1949 to 1952, then in 1959 the Sha family moved to Anoka and he joined the consulting firm of Caswell Engineering Company. In 1961 he was named chief executive officer of Midland Consultants, where he supervised the design and construction of the joint interceptor sanitary system of the North Suburban Sanitary Sewer District, which now serves virtually all of the north and northwest Twin Cities suburbs. In 1980 he retired from consulting practice and accepted the position of special deputy director of construction and administration with the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission. He served on the Metropolitan Health Board from 1970 to 1980. In 1982 the Shas retired to their farm near Vergas. He and his wife, Rose, helped found the Anoka Theater Ensemble and performed with them on productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and operas. He was also a past president of the Anoka Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, children: Ronald (Laurel) Sha of Hillsborough, N.C., Kristi (Richard).Class of Janesville, Patricia (Ron) Cooke of Opua, New Zealand, Janet (Gary) Hill of St. Paul, Sara Dalen of Moorhead; grandchildren, Hilary (Mark) Macenas, Grant Sha, Marta Cooke, Sanna Cooke, Zac Dalen and Anna Dalen, sisters, Margaret Crogan and Adeline Pannek, both of Eden Prairie; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenny and Eugene; and sister, Kathleen.
Arrangements were by Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids.
Genevieve Sievert
Funeral service for Genevieve V. Sievert, 90, St. Cloud, took place April 28 at Miller-Methven Taylor Funeral Home, Columbia Heights. Rev. James Martin officiated.
Sievert died April 16, 2005 in St. Cloud. She was born Dec. 27, 1914 in Minneapolis to John Wrobel and Victoria Jargus.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bruce) Ramsden, Carol (Vernon) Rozmark and Bonnie (Dennis) Cull; grandchildren, Michael (Wendy), Randy (Debbie), Pamela (Tim) and Patricia; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Abby, Tyna, Julia, Zachary, Holly and Trina; sister, Joanna Matanowski; and brothers, Sigmund and Stanley Wrobel.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.
Dale Smith
Memorial service for Dale D. Smith, 76, will take place today (Friday May 6), 11 a.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brooklyn Park. Rev. Heidi Caldwell officiated.
Smith died April 29, 2005 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Robbinsdale.
He is survived by his wife, Marian (nee Christ); sons, Garie (Hannelore), Kim (Raelissa); daughter, Terryl (Smith); six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Loren; and sister, Delila Newman.
Arrangement are by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Peter Smith
Funeral service for Peter Kirk Smith, 31, Monticello, formerly of Ham Lake, took place May 3 at Church of St. Paul, Ham Lake. Rev. Jon VanderPloog officiated.
Smith died April 27, 2005. He was born May 17, 1972 in Fridley to Kirk and Jeanie Smith. He graduated from Blaine High School in 1990 and was employed as a school bus driver.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; stepchildren, Lindsey Gasper and Kaitlin Smith; parents, Kirk and Jeanie Smith of Ham Lake; brother, Joseph (Madalina) Smith and their children Domi and Nick of Maryland; mother- and father-in-law, Butch and Rosie Gasper of Monticello; and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Lindsey Gasper and Domi, Joseph, Kaitlin and Nick Smith.
Interment was at Athens Lutheran Cemetery, rural Isanti. Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.
Robert Smith
Memorial service for Robert "Bob" R. Smith, 61, Blaine, took place April 28 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Todd Jones officiated.
Smith died April 25, 2005 at Unity Hospital. He was born March 1, 1944 in Pitysburg, Kan., and was a welder.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Kevin (Christine), Lisa Tapper (Brandon) and Jason (Jen); grandchildren, Andrew and Kyle, MaKayla and Sheldon Tapper and Aliceyn; and other family and friends.

Mildren Uphoff
Funeral service for Mildren J. Uphoff, 89, Anoka, took place April 28 at Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids, Rev. Paul Settergrem officiated.
Uphoff died April 25, 2005 in Coon Rapids. She was born May 21, 1915 in Madison to Andreh and Matilda Pederson.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Marlys (Bob) Oie, Carol (Stan) Smith; sons, Gene (Sharon) and Keith (Vicky); 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Freda Laabs and Marci Dell; and brother, Art Pederson.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin, Palmer and Stan Pederson; and sister, Alice Storlien.
Pallbearers were Dale Oie, John, Eric, Rick and Roger Uphoff and Michael and Scott Smith.
Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Maplewood. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids.
Severin Wanous
Funeral service for Severin R. Wanous, 92, Anoka, took place April 30 at Elim Baptist Church, Anoka. Rev. Dr. Leroy Nelson officiated.
Wanous died April 25, 2005 at North Ridge Care Center, New Hope. He was born Oct. 23, 1912 in Pine City to Anton and Anna (Pavek) Wanous and was a retired bricklayer.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters, Josephine (Charles) Parvey of Robbinsdale, Marilyn (Harley) VanGieson of Kansas, Susan (Roger Muecke) Lindmeyer of Blaine; daughter-in-law, Karen Wanous of Coon Rapids; sons, Severin (Bonnie) of Andover, Gary of Andover; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Sindlar of Pine City.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darwin.
Pallbearers were Wayne, Robert and Randy VanGieson, Severin Wanous Jr., Doug Parvey and Mike "Bill" Berg.

Opal Wirz
Funeral service for Opal L. Wirz, 90, Elk River, took place April 28 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nowthen.
Wirz died April 23, 2005. She was born Feb. 5, 1915 and graduated from St. Francis High School. She and her husband, Robert, farmed in the Elk River area.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Ted) Erickson, Marvin "Bob" (Suzanne), Dennis (Barbara) and Sharon (Dean) Rudquist; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River.
Evelyn Anderson
Memorial service for Evelyn Marie Anderson, 100, Coon Rapids, took place April 25 at Camilia Rose Convalescent Center, Coon Rapids.
Anderson died April 23, 2005 in Coon Rapids. She was born Dec. 24, 1904 at Marine-on-St. Croix to Andrew Olson and Marie Nelson. She was a retired secretary in education.
She is survived by her son, Paul; daughters-in-law, Joyce and Loretta; grandchildren, Ted, Elizabeth, Eileen, Barbara, Melissa, Michelle, Clayton; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Audra, Daniel, Elise, Haylie, Jake; and sister-in-law, Edith Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence.
Interment was at Grandview Park Cemetery, Hopkins. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.
Anne Bernstein
Funeral service for Anne Marie Bernstein, 68, Fridley, took place May 6 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Blaine. Rev. Harry Tasto officiated.
Bernstein died May 2, 2005 at Lynwood Health Care Center, Fridley. She was born Sept. 25, 1936 in Anoka to Daniel George and Mildred Margaret (Mousel) Alt. She was a retired administrative assistant at Medtronic.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; children, Maria (Mark) Schwan of Wisconsin, Daniel (Laurie) Bernstein of St. Michael, Fritz (Sarah) Bernstein of New York; grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy and Jacob Schwan and Thomas and Matthew Bernstein; sister, LaDonna (Jim) Vaught of Anoka; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dan and John Vaught and Andrew, Timothy, Mark and Jacob Schwan.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
