Knute Johnson
Funeral service for Knute Henfrid Johnson, 93, Otsego, formerly of Coon Rapids, Blaine and Anoka, took place Aug. 1 at Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River.
Johnson died July 28, 2005. He was born in March 3, 1912 in Sweden. He worked at Ghostley's Poultry Farm and retired from the University of Minnesota in 1977.
He is survived by his sons, Marlin of Eagan, Richard of Otsego; grandsons, Brian of the U.S. Navy, Christopher of Eagan; and granddaughter, Tasha of Otsego.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred.
Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Dare's Funeral Home.
Francis Krantz
Funeral service for Francis "Bud" Krantz, 85, Anoka, took place Aug. 8 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Krantz died Aug. 4, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He is survived by his children, Stephen (Mona), Bonnie (Dalton) Stevens Dill, Guy (Debbie), Julie (Gary) Robideau; mother of his children, Barbara Krantz; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grand-children; three sisters; and one brother.
Private interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
John Mann
Funeral service for John Mann, 84, Blaine, took place July 30 at Church of St. Mary, St. Paul. Rev. George Jacob officiated.
Mann died July 27, 2005 in Blaine. He was born Oct. 12, 1920 in Duluth to Elsworth and Conlon Mann.
He is survived by seven children; four stepchildren; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl.
Pallbearers were Steven, David, Mary Ann and Sharon Mann, Laurie Seaman and Julie Mann-Anderson.
Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Melvin Moss
Funeral service for Melvin Irvin "Mel" Moss, 78, Rogers, took place Aug. 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Dayton. Rev. Peter Richards officiated.
Moss died Aug. 56, 2005 at Mille Lacs Hospital, Onamia. He was born June 5, 1927 in Fargo, N.D., to Irvin William and Signe Sophie (Benson) Moss. He was a retired manager at Control Data.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Linda (Vello) Maegi, Rick (Candy), Patrick, Ronald (Christina), Robert (Lindsay); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Jenny); and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Pallbearers were Jeff, Jeffrey, Brady and Dan Moss and Mike and Brian Maegi.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Robert Neises
Funeral service for Robert Henry Neises, 80, Winthrop, took place Aug. 9 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Hamel. Rev. Robert Patterson officiated.
Neises died Aug. 4, 2005 at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale. He was born Aug. 23, 1924 in Wadena to Henry and Minnie (Imgrund) Neises. He served in the U.S. Army Air Division in World War II, flying 58 missions over Germany.
He is survived by his sons, Gerald and Theresa Neises, James and Eileen Neises; daughter, Jeannie and Bruce West; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Barfknecht; and special friend, Beverly Pettit-Hamer and her five daughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann (Arens) Neises.
Pallbearers were Kevin and Terry Barfknecht, John, Mike, Pat and Steve Arens and Gary Neid. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Sipe, Bill Ruchti, Paul Martin, Dick Estersen, Jim Hunter and Charles Meyer.
Interment was at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Loretto. Arrangements were by Iten Funeral Home, Delano.
Ada Orr-Mugridge
Funeral service for Ada M. Orr-Mugridge, 87, Safford, Ariz., took place Aug. 6. at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Deacon Dominic Ehrmantraut officiated.
Orr-Mugridge died July 30, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tucson, Ariz. She was born Nov. 29, 1917 in Ham Lake to John E. and Pearl (Danforth) Olson. She was retired from Federal Cartridge, where she worked for more than 37 years.
She is survived by her husband, John Mugridge; sons, Kenneth (Irene) Orr, Samuel (Karen) Orr, Leslie (Paulette) Orr, John (Karen) Orr; daughters, Barbara (Donald) Daly, Patricia (Sheldon) Larson; stepdaughter, Linda Herbert; sister, Anna Harms; sister-in-law, Carol (William) Cox; 16 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lyman J. Orr and Irv Barrett; parents, John and Pearl Olson; two brothers; and four sisters.
Pallbearers were David, Tim Michael, Brian, Kevin, Jay, Jesse and Mark Orr.
Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Dennis Phillips
Funeral service for Dennis Glen Phillips, 54, Dayton, took place Aug., 10 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Phillips died Aug. 6, 2005 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Minneapolis. He was born Feb. 22, 1951 in Columbia Heights to Theodore and Juanita Bernice (Hirsh) Phillips. He was an accountant.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, Ben, Joey, Frances, Kari, Nellie; and mother, Juanita (Earl) McNiff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Phillips.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Geraldine Van Es
Funeral service for Geraldine Van Es, 77, Coon Rapids, took place Aug. 5 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Van Es died Aug. 1, 2005. She was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Ireton, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra DeVries, Karen Burnevik (Bruce), Cheryl Schneider (Jack); son, Jon Van Es; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey Matthews; and brother, Glen DeVries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan; and grandson, Tom Schneider.
Interment was private at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Lois Walsh
Funeral service for Lois Yvonne (Chelin) Walsh, 79, Ramsey, took place Aug. 6 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.
Walsh died Aug. 3, 2005 at her home. She was born May 27, 1926 in Ulen to Lawrence and Evelyn Florence (McDonald) Johnson. She was a retired bookkeeper.
She is survived by her children, Wayne Chelin, Nancy (Mike) O'Neil, Karen (Douglas) Linquist; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Tim (Sue) Johnson; sisters, Bonnie Denis, Eileen Lene, Dolly (Donald) Erickson; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Mary O'Neil, Andy Linquist, Daniel and Lance Grant, Darren Chelin and Mike Juetten.
Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery, Nowthen. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Ira Way
Funeral service for Ira D. Way, 83, Coon Rapids, took place Aug. 8 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Mark Wehmann officiated.
Way died Aug. 1, 2005 in Coon Rapids. He was born July 10, 1922 in Osakis to Chris and Geneva (Robinson) Way. He was a World War II veteran with the 10th Armored Division and a retired driver for Gateway Foods.
He is survived by his wife, Mable; daughter and sons, Cece Erickson (Clayton), Philip Way (Julie), Paul Way (Angie), Jean Tierney (Ray); 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry; and brothers and sisters.
Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Blanche Wright
Funeral service for Blanche E. Wright (nee Smuder), 82, Buckeye, Ariz., formerly of Anoka, took place July 26 at Phoenix Memorial Mortuary, Ariz.
Wright died July 22, 2005. She was born Feb. 23, 1923 in Anoka.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Wright of Buckeye; daughters, Joyce Rajkovich of California and Linda (Don) Broesder of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, Kenneth and Dennis Wright and Jim Keen, all of California; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Keillor of California and Irene Sundberg of Anoka; brother, Wesley (Elaine) of Rush City; sisters-in-law, Pat Smuder of Burns ; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Leora Smuder; and brother, Sam Jr.
